Ren recently heard about housing, and while walking around the Londinium district, he was thinking about a house he might buy in the future. Wandering the streets, he found himself near a river. Thinking about the location of his to-be home, he looked around to find any homes already in use. He found a single home, near the river, with a water mill to probably supply the house with power. Wondering about the owner, he stepped up to the house and knocked on the door. He really liked some info about nearby houses, so asking the owner of one would be ideal. As the door opened, Ren decided to be a bit awkward for a change, and said: "Hi there, the name's Ren, and I'm your worst nightmare!". Immediately regretting his decision, he just smiled awkwardly, hoping he's still somehow get the answers to his questions about the house...

“Hello there Ren, I’m Bailin, but you being my worst nightmare... I can’t recall I inviting my loving in-laws over to my place…, so hello mother, how are you faring today? I see the surgeon did a rather miserable attempt tomake your face look more feminine, I do hope you did not pay t too much for it, he still did a terrible job. In fact, maybe you should ask your money back for a job poorly done.” Bailin grinned as Ren made his introductions. ‘If he wants to be a smartass he can get smart ass back as well. Now let's just hope I didn't scare him off...’ Bailin thought to himself, eyeing and sizing up this Ren fellow, hoping this Ren fellow wouldn't smack him or just run away. For some reason Bailin had that effect on people, something he never could explain or find out the why of it all.
“So, without further delay, and leaving our pleasantries behind us for which you also have my apologies if I were too rude for your liking, how can I help you on this fine day?” he asked the chap with the white, curvy and spikey hair in front of him. Ren’s eyes were red, dark red, which was slightly odd, but as this was a game, it wasn’t that odd, there were cat-people walking about nowadays, so a chap with red eyes wasn’t that much of a standing out character. The only thing that might stand out in this new world would be his height.

Hearing the reply to his awkward and slightly stupid introduction, Ren couldn't help but burst into laughter. "No need for apologies, that was all on me" Ren said, still somewhat laughing. "Nice to meet ya Bailin, I was just wondering about this house of yours, and mainly about getting one myself". Bailin seemed nice enough to have a chat with, so he might as well ask. "I probably won't get a house soon, but it's nice to have something to strife for".

“Well I can be pretty quick on that subject: I love the place, though you should probably not decorate your garden like I did… I dug a trench and made a pile of dirt as to use it as a practise range for all the fun stuff that might also be potentially dangerous. But remember: dangerous things are a lot of fun.” Bailin grinned, adding Ren to the ‘admitted list’ and waving him in. “Well now, welcome to my humble home. For now everything is more or less empty, though the kitchen is fine. Only downside: I don’t cook, nor do Nostracatus and Oddy. You’ll probably meet those two at some point. If you’d follow me to the next room on the to-do-list, then we can continue our grand tour. Also: this is supposed to be the living room, though I have yet to find some proper furniture and such.” Bailin said, pointing to the empty room and kitchen. “If you go through that door you’ll find the bathroom. The other door is the laboratory for Nostro, he’s an alchemist, but best not venture in that room, who knows what he’s doing!” Bailin grinned, pointing out the room Nostro would probably conduct some of his… morally shady research, that is: knowing Nostro from other games where he had been rather keen on playing the morally shady researcher type. Taking Ren to the next room Bailin opened the door to his bedroom; “This is my bedroom and office to be. I still need both a bed and a desk but it’s something for later, at this moment I just sleep on the floor or in the field.”
Next stop was the garage and smithy: “This is the smarage, smirage of well think of a fitting name for a garage and smithy. Workshop sounds so… ordinary and daft, that’s never going to go well… ah well, this is where Oddy usually hangs out, he’s a blacksmith so he uses the smithy. I’m a mechanic so I use the garage bit. And since we’re on that topic: I’m also a Warden and accountant, how about you?” Bailin grinned, turning about and facing Ren. WC 360 mechsoul

Ren was a bit surprised to find himself let into the house, and get a grand tour of the place. He just wanted to know a bit about how the place was, and how the surrounding area was, but he didn't mind this either. Walking through the house, he saw some quite nice rooms, and it really seemed like they had a nice home. He loved the fact that they lived together so happily. "Well uhm, thanks for the tour, I'll definitely be buying me a house nearby somewhere in the future" Ren said, somewhere during the end of the tour. Bailin was talking about his class and subclasses, and asked Ren what his were. "Well, I'm a swashbuckler, with gunslinger as a subclass, and mechanic as a crafting class, although I've never used it before..." Ren noticed how Bailin was a mechanic as well, and thought they might be able of working together on something. "Maybe we could do something about that, I'm always looking for new stuff to learn, especially with (new) friends. How about it?".

“Swashbuckler eh, I know a guy like that, Steel is his name I think. And gunslinger… that’s new to me, but I prefer accountant. It offers some nice discounts for the guild you’re in. Though that’s, long story short, a longer term project for now. “Bailin said, sharing his intentions of starting a guild with Ren.
“Gunslinger, hmmm, I don’t recall that being available when I started playing, but neither was Warden when Kitty started playing so I guess things can evolve or get added… which is an interesting concept to be honest, but we are getting a bit side tracked aren’t we? So I’d say: Once more onto the breach! What do you want to do? I’m getting pretty handy with making music boxes, though I have to admit it’s getting a bit daft. So making something new sounds pretty darn great, almost like music to my ears, pun intended.” Bailin grinned as he looked at Ren, quickly pondering about what they could make… He was a lowly level three, but Ren was still level one…
“We could… try and make some rollerblades or skateboard… if you check at your mechanic recipes; those should be amongst the basic ones you ‘know’ in a way. Or we could try and make something new, with two mechanics we should at least get enough ideas on how certain things might work or not work. So what do you say? Shall we build a known recipe, it doesn’t have to be a known recipe… or maybe just think of something that might be awesome and useful to make, but also great to raise your skill and teach you how being a mechanic more or less works?” Bailin said grinning to Ren
"Lastly we could probably try to make Warden Armour but… I’m afraid it would mean we’d have to take mine apart and I don’t want that yet… so maybe we could set up some theories on the subject while we build something else?” Bailin suggested to Ren.

Ren listened to Bailin talking about his subclass, his friend Steel, and something about a guild. Would be nice to be in one, and maybe then I wouldn't have to find my own place. Ahh well, leaving that aside, Ren said: "Well, just a regular old music box seems boring, so why not make something new for the both of us. Something practical though, maybe we could make some money off of it... Any ideas?". Ren thought long and hard about what they might research, but anything he could think of was way too difficult todo with the current technology... "Hmmm, I have no idea what to make, how about you?" Ren said, looking at Bailin.

“That they are, they are intriguing but after you’ve done one or two it’s just… he same old, same old. Something practical… well I always have ideas but… how about a typewriter? You know one of those ancient things with the awesome clicking sounds and a ‘pling’ when you’ve reached the end of the line or page or something? I would love one of those, should make accounting a tad easier as well… so what do you think? Shall we build a typewriter?” Bailin asked, looking hopeful at Ren.
“Because, you know, not only we could get use out of it, but think about it: people could type messages, scribes wouldn’t get sore fingers from writing, though that’s a bit funny for us as well, we could re-introduce the alphabet, though maybe the game auto-translates, but think of the options, the possibilities, the fun! No more ink-smudges on your hands, the clacking of buttons being pressed and metal stamps hitting the paper! Yes, we should make a typewriter or at least try it!” Bailin rambled due to sheer excitement.
“Even if the attempt fails, which is the worst that could happen probably, at least we did try and do something useful and such! That should count for something, shouldn’t it? Though that does make me sound like a hippie kind of guy… though I AM NOT A DARN HIPPIE! I don’t hug trees and such!” Bailin laughed, thinking about a stereotype tree hugger and then picturing himself hugging a tree.

As Ren was thinking about what to build, Bailin came up with the idea to make a typewriter. Which was a brilliant idea if he thought so himself. He was gonna say he loved the idea of a typewriter, but Bailin just kept talking. "Tha-... I-... Cou-..." Ren didn't want to interrupt his friend's talking, but when he started mumbling about hippies, Ren had enough. "ANYWAYS, about that typewriter, I think it's a great Idea, although I've never researched anything, so how are we even gonna do this?" Ren said, to interrupt Bailin's talk. "How do we even make a typewriter?" Ren said, waiting for a (hopefully) less long answer.

“Huh? What? Oh, sorry, yes I have a tendency to do that, the rambling that is. I rarely have a shortage of ideas or thoughts, meaning I can keep rambling.“Bailin said grinning. “Well neither have I but I think the mechanism isn’t too hard to construct. Just a lot of small and precise works. As for how to research, I honestly have no idea how it works exactly, as far as I’ve understood it, it’s more or less: invent as you go. Voice an idea and start making it, if it’s plausible and possible the game allows it to exist, if not, I think the invention just goes like ‘poef’ and gone. At least that’s what I think would happen if your research would fail, but I haven’t experienced it yet, so I guess we’re both going on an adventure.” Bailin explained his theory. “Well now, as for the typewriter, I think we should get our hands on a lot of small screws, small plates, a larger’ish box, a load of springs or coils and some gears. What do you think?” Bailin asked, trying to refrain from another torrent of words, which would undoubtedly annoy Ren. Visualising what he had in mind, the typewriter would consist of a lot of metal plates, being pulled by the coils and held in place by the gears. One letter would consist of about 3 small metal plates, each connected with a screw, but leaving enough room for the parts to move. The middle plate would be attached to a coil, making the letter, after having being pressed, shoot back into its resting place. The first part would be attached with a larger screw, holding all letters and numbers in place. WC 288 archive.hnsa.org/doc/typewriter/img/pg027.jpgThis is the general idea, I have more schematics if need be ;)

As Ren listened to Bailin talking about his typewriter idea, He closed his eyes, crossed his arms, and nodded all the while he had the typewriter in mind. He followed the materials he mentioned, and visualized the way they'd go together. "Hmm, seems fine, we could definitely make it like that, but what about the materials, do we have any? I mean, this is your workshop/smirage or whatever you wanna call it, so I'd excpect you have some of it, do you?" Ren thought to himself where they might get the remaining items, and to be honest, he had no idea. He hadn't done much shopping since he arrived, and never really bothered to find any new stuff so far... There was much left to learn about this world...
"Also, we really need to be careful putting it together, maybe if we screw up (pun intended) it'll disappear like you said, which would mean we'd waste all those materials... How about you worry about the materials for now, and I'll draw a small blueprint of how it's gonna be put together, I might not be a scribe, but my IRL drawing skills are not to be taken lightly." Ren said, with a pose of self-confidence. "How about it, good idea or what?".

“Do we have any he asks…? Ren, take a look around, we’re in the workshop, either just rummage through the piles of parts, I am not one to keep a… clean shop, only a clean bank account.” Bailin winked, referring to his accountant class.
“But yes, the coils, screws and gears I have lying about, just go through the piles. If you ever find someone with the housekeeping skill, can you send them to me? I am terrible with cleaning up, but a housekeeper would probably be done in an hour and do a great job at cleaning as well.” Bailin grinned. “Also, don’t worry about the cost; I’ll pay for it, as long as it stays within reason.” Listening to Ren’s suggestions about being careful, Bailin had to laugh at the little pun Ren made; it was a bit funny and in this world would qualify as a mechanic’s sense of humour for certain.
“Well I don’t know how well real life skills would translate into game skills, but it is worth a shot. I’ve ordered a chalkboard and chalk for that purpose, however, those are still under development so you’d have to think of something else to draw on, but I think you’ll be fine.“ Bailin smiled at the notion, considering the possibilities of blueprints and chalkboard. The thought had occurred to him before but it was more a quick notion rather than a full idea with really practical uses, but since Ren mentioned the blueprints, the notion had come back to Bailin.

"Hmm, well, this is your house, so I'll leave the parts to you... I'm really curious if I can still draw like I used to though, do you have a pencil or something other than a chalkboard for me to draw on? On second thought, we probably won't use it now anyways, so Let's just leave that be... Maybe we could make a mechanical pencil at some point. Definitely beats quills. I'll start looking for some of the parts here, so maybe you could start at that box over there?" Ren said, pointing towards a box in the corner of the workshop. He started digging through the various scrap metal and parts, and found a bunch of screws, a couple of coils, a spring and 3 gears... "Well, I found some of it, you have any more? I didn't get my hands on any small plates yet though, what about you?". While still holding the box with one hand, and his other holding a gear in hand, he looked at Bailin and at what he was currently doing. "By the way, I've organised the parts over here , so just add them to the existing pile if you find more..." Ren said, pointing at the piles on the table with his right hand, which is still holding the gear. Putting down the gear, he scratched his head while he looked around. Scratching closer to his wolf ear was really satisfying, which was strange considering he didn't have those in real life.

“Thanks and there should be a lot of plates just lying about. Shouldn’t we just ask an artisan or woodworker to make a pencil? Would be a lot easier, don’t you agree. I also think those will probably fall under a scribe’s area of expertise.” Bailin replied to the suggestion of making mechanical pencil. “Yep, got some small screws, plates and coils right here. The box can wait, remember: It’s better to place everything into a big box first, rather than mess around with boxes that are too small for what we have now. Let’s start by making all the parts first and then worry about a box.” Continuing is explanation:” I think we should punch holes into them, here and here. Attach the coil to one end and screw another plate on the other end so it can flex back when you press the lever point here, which would make the other end smash the correct letter on the paper. The gear is to make the paper holder shift so you don’t have to keep shifting the paper yourself as well as keep the lever from shooting back too fast or going too far and such. I’ll go drill the holes; I think we’ll need about forty sets, so about one hundred and twenty plates. The perks of being a Warden, the MUT is great for little things as well as bigger things.” He said, taking out his MUT and fastening it on the workbench so he could make an example for Ren. Gently he turned on the MUT drill and, using the tip of the drill, drilled two holes. Adding action to his words Bailin proceeded to joining the three plates together with a coil and two screws. The coil would go to the far ends of the construction, the screws on the short ends. Due to the tension on the coil the three plates now formed a little u, or perhaps even a little triangle, with enough imagination. “So Ren, if you place the gear on this point,” Bailin said, while taking the new construct and a gear into his hands and putting the gear on the desired place on the construct, “the plates can still bend, but not too far, the gear works as a stopping point and launch platform, so to speak. If you press this part,” Bailin continued while he pressed the end of the construct, making the other parts ‘shoot’ out, “this will happen. The coil will pull it back into its resting position and thus lose little to nothing of its torque. Do you understand what I mean?” He asked Ren. “If we can make forty of these we can then take a small metal rod to put through the first hole to fix the construct in place.” He continued, awaiting input from Ren. Ren crossed his arms and looked at the construct Bailin was explaining. With a little frustration in his eyes, he tried to follow what Bailin explained. "I get the basics, yea, but I'm really not that good of a mechanical person outside of the game, so most of this is gibberish to me". While he was still a little confused, Ren tried to replicate his friend's construct. "So, like this?" He said, with the finished construct on the table. It was a little less good looking, but practically the same thing. "We need forty of these, so I guess I'll start working on these then. Anything else we need to do? I'm probably better at this repetetive work rather than thinking of this by myself, so I'd rather leave that to you...". Ren knew he had much to learn about this world, and especially about being a mechanic. He never had a clue that this could be such tough work, because Ren's sure he'd never thought of that on his own. "Well, I'll start making a couple more of these as long as we have the parts. The rest is up to you" He said with a smile, before starting his work.

“To be honest, I think the basics are all you need to know, remember and I know it’s kind of hard on occasion to not forget it, this is still a game. Thus you don’t have to be particularly handy or skilled to achieve your goal, although I admit, I think it would help quite a bit if you were or are skilled in what you are attempting to do.” Bailin said with a smile as he tried to raise Ren’s apparent lack of faith in his own capabilities.
“So you could actually try and let the system do the hard work for you. Think of it as an automated attack on an enemy or monster, you think or say what you want to and you let the game execute the order or thought. Though I think you would need a set level to achieve certain things, however, if you do things manually it probably won’t be that bad. As for the bits and bobs we’re making now, think of them as a wind-up mechanism with a countdown of about half of a second, so a near direct execution and the duration is also near instantaneous. As a mechanic wind- up mechanisms are about the first things you can make.“Bailin continued, a bit longer then intended, but hoping Ren would understand what he meant.
“As for things we’d also need are about two long rods or very long screws so we can attach these arms on them, as well as making a flip-switch on the letters, but that’s why we have the gears attached as a release mechanism. So you press the button, the gear lets go of the arm, which will make the printing letter shoot up due to the tension of the coil. If that is what you want, we shall divide the work like that, though doing the same thing forty times will get your brain fried. Also Oddy mentioned something about having places some screwdriver around here… it should help us a bit with speeding up with tightening the screws and such. So let’s get to work shall we?” Bailin said as he went looking through the piles of junk to find two long metal rods where they, or he, could attach the smaller mechanisms to hold them in place. Taking the parts both he and Ren had already finished he placed them tightly on the rods and so he continued to work.

Without warning, Bailin's telepathic communication would come up. It seems to be a call from that damned annoyed fox tail girl, Keyala. What would a summoner want with Bailin? If he picks up, Keyala would speak to him "Hey Bailin, I hear you have a project that you might be working on. My Scribe level has rocketed up, and I still need to get it up just a bit higher before we take any sort of grand adventure. Klide told me I could stop by your place to craft, so if you need any help with a project while I'm down there, I'll be there once I gather all of my materials! I've been practicing mana writing and reading too! And with the level I have now, anything you make is automatically patented and recorded! So we will never forget anything we make! See you soon!" she says, ending the call and giving Bailin very little to no time to respond to her inane ramblings, which were just as fast and uninterrupted as usual, it's a wonder that girl doesn't forget to breathe ever. The girl would gather her things, putting her new, Eagle pen, looking very official and majestic, into her magic bag, along with paper and her ink. She would the scramble out the door, winding up at Bailin's location very shortly afterwards, knocking on the door. The fox tail seems somewhat different. Instead of her dull brown robes, she now wears what looks to be a shrine priestess outfit, that is white and red. She also has acquired a new tail, which proudly rests next to her other tail "Bailin! I'm here! And ready to help! Come on! Open the door!"Word Count: 284 Tags: Bailin

Whilst he was continuing his work Bailin found that they had forgotten one major thing: The inkwell, of course it could be done with the help of an alchemist, but perhaps a scribe could offer some valuable information or insight in the matter. Whilst he continued his tinkering the warden suddenly received a phone call through telepathy; it was Keyala, a foxtail he had met whilst Klide was helping her get upon her feet in this new world. [break][break] “Indeed.” The warden confirmed at the mentioning of the project. It had been a while since he had actually been working on it, but that was something Keyala did not need to know. “That is nice. You might prove to be useful.” The warden continued as Keyala informed him that her scribe level had shot up rather high. “Indeed, I could use your help. You will like it once you see it.” The warden stated, rather certain Keyala would indeed enjoy the idea of having a typewriter at her disposal. [break][break] After a while there was a knock on the door, upon which the Warden gently placed the mechanism upon his worktable and marched towards the door. When he came to the door he opened it with a wide swing and gave a quick look upon the fox tail. “You have improved.” He stated and allowed the girl to enter his humble home. Closing the door behind her, he led the fox tail towards his workshop and pointed at the current state of the typewriter. “It requires something to have the letters placed upon the paper; I presume either an inkwell or magitech would work.” The warden stated as he explained what they had done so far, without too much of a technical detail. All that needed to be done was install the roll which would allow the paper to be kept straight so one could type, the parts already present for assembly, as well as the metal strips with the letters, which left only the medium through which the ink would be applied to the paper. With magitech or sigils it would be very easy, the medium being mana, rather than resources. Though perhaps it would work if one were to use a metallic ink and some sort of magnets to allow a steady current of the ink to float in front of the paper, or, if one looked back upon the original models: a strip that was soaked full of ink and when pressure was applied it would present the corresponding letter on the paper. However, the warden kept silent on the latter part, mainly because he was somewhat uncertain with what was actually rather practical and what Keyala could actually do. [break][break]

She nods as she examines the typewriter, getting close enough to it that such a chaotic girl might even make Bailin sweat, she would slowly pull out a crisp piece of magician's paper, setting it down on the table next to the typewriter. She would then pull out her sorcerer's quill, made from the fine feather of an eagle, along with her small bottle of ink. Uncorking the ink, she gently dips her pen into the inkwell, shifting over above her clean magician's paper. looking back and forth between the typewriter and the paper, she would begin to draw out a sort of blueprint for what is there right now. What Bailin may not know, is that magician's paper can be edited by the scribe who created it or who first used it. For some reason, she drew two copies out, one on each side of the paper. On both copies she drew out all of the parts that Bailin had done, in a view that was bisected so that she could view the inner workings in her drawings. Once she had drawn the roll, the keys, the assembly parts, and her concept of the inkwell, all in duplicate, she would slip her hand back into the bag, pulling out a rather well crafted piece of wood and some wax, placing both on the paper and pressing her emblem into it. It seems like she was done, however, she would press her hand to the wax emblem, giving a small smirk as she closed her eyes "Looking to the Heavens, I Call The Stars to look upon the land and illuminate what is before us." she calls out, and a holographic projection rises from the paper of both of her models, they both appear very clear, done with a well made Call The Stars. "So I have two ideas. One would be more useful for Scribes, and the other would be more useful for the general public, such as accountants. Most of my writing is in Mythic Script, which is written with mana and is a somewhat different text. So we could have a magictech or we could just have one with a normal inkwell. So I mean, really both are right. If I wanted to write a Grimiore or a solid contract I'd need to have it written in mana, or really anything to have magic imbued into it more than just my ink would offer. I have enough ink that we could test it, and we could really do both designs, since they'd be interchangeable, technically we could even get two patents out of this, and as a Scribe I'd get copies of the blueprints as well, thanks to my level 11 skill. So really, whether writing in mana or in ink, it all depends on what you are writing.Word Count: 472 Total Word Count: 756 Tags Bailin

Once Keyala was inside she started right away with observing the machine, as well as taking out paper to do some fancy magic tricks. The kind of magic trick would become obvious after Keyala incanted a spell, presumably a requirement for her skill to work, rather than either selecting it or just making the physical motion. She also had managed to draw up and produce two copies of what appeared to be a blueprint, though both were on the same paper, just different pages. Once she had cast her spell a holographic projection of the typewriter appeared above the paper. After that, whilst Bailin was looking intrigued at the projection, Keyala suggested two versions, a more generalised version and one a bit more specific for scribes, entering into detail on both. [break][break] “I don’t know how to work with magitech, all I know is that it requires an alchemist. Unless you are aware of a way to infuse the ink with mana?” the warden asked of the scribe. “Perhaps it would be wiser to start with the general version, as it is easier to create. I presume you are correct that both systems are interchangeable, or the changes should be minimal.” He continued, his voice sounding cold and harsh still but also intrigued. “Thus if we are to create an inkwell here,” the warden spoke, pointing at one of the sides, “the ink might flow to each letter, being refreshed by the turning of the page, here.” Bailin said, thinking out loud, something that had been rather uncharacteristic. [break][break] “If so, it should only take me a few moments to make something that would achieve the goal.” Bailin spoke as he started rummaging through some drawers and piles of parts, looking for two sets of metal that could form the required ink basin and conductor; assembling both parts together he held it up for Keyala to check, wondering if she thought it could would.
