In all her days in Elder Tale, Caerbannog had not heard of a certain place until recently. Like the Grain Village, apparently that area had been frequented only by the people of the land. With the growing number of adventurers who were obviously more capable than their lander counterparts, it seemed that quests were being given out so that troublesome creatures could be dealt with. The samurai, being a tamer as well, avoided quests that required her to skin a tanuki or kill a kitsune; she instead opted for a quest that required brute force.
Quest Title: ONIxpected! Location: Moon Dance Forest Requirements: Wipe out a thieving group of oni. Reward: The oni's loot!
Caer tilted her head when she read the title. It sounded like a bad pun. She then winced when she saw the "reward". It sounded as if she was expected to steal from creatures that she would kill. Who wrote the quest? Some five year old? The samurai sighed but accepted the quest seeing as it did not require her to punch some cute creatures to death. Now the only problem was... how will she get to Moon Dance Forest? The wolf-hair had never been there before. But as luck would have it, a cart headed towards the direction of Sarum was loaded with some crates labeled "To Moon Dance Village". Caerbannog grinned and she hurriedly hopped onto the cart; at first, the driver refused but no merchant could not be swayed by a hefty sum of gold. The samurai had no problems parting with it, and the driver had no problems accepting it. Soon they were well on the way to Moon Dance Village and the samurai was to be dropped off in the forest.
The sight that first greeted Caerbannog was the usual empty and dry fields of Sarum but as the cart trudged on, the ground eventually became lush with greenery. She had never seen this side of Sarum before and frankly, it was rather pretty. The trees that grew in the area were slightly different from the ones in Windsor, probably due to the difference in soil and temperature. It was barely noticeable, but an adventurer who was observant enough would see it. Even the creatures that lurked behind the woods were different from the ones found all over the Greatwoods around Londinium; they also seemed quite hostile. Unlike pittered boars and frenmic rabbits that ran around in large numbers, the creatures of Moon Dance seemed to be few and far in between each section of the forest.
"Alright, the village is up ahead. If you're looking for those oni, they're probably out robbing some poor lad camped out in the woods," the driver nodded towards the dark trees.
Caerbannog noticed a light that glowed above the village, but she paid no attention to it. Her quest was to find the group of oni. The samurai jumped off the cart and patted down her schoolgirl uniform. It was not as defensive as her samurai armor, but if she was to fight in the forest, she would need the uniform's movement speed reforge. The wolf-hair looked up and down the road for any sign of movement. Perhaps some other poor soul had gone oni-hunting?

If there was something that leo liked more than fighting in world was sightseeing and exploring. Since he was just a little boy, he always had that adventurous spirit that continued to keep in him trouble with his family and teachers- He just couldn’t help it, he was curious and he couldn’t wait to know what lied beyond the borders of his knowledge. This trait remained mostly unchanged after all those years and certainly it grew only stronger once Leo found himself trapped within the game of elder tale. Exploring a complete new world was like his child dream coming true, so much that everytime a new zone was discovered leo could hardly contain himself to find out what that next zone would be. What was the story of that place, is the food any good? Are the mobs stronger than the ones he fought before? Those were just some of the questions that raced in his mind as he prepared to explore new areas.
This time the wolf hair swashbuckler put a hold on his training and decided to visit a place he should have some time ago. The sarum zone was completed a long while ago and one of the next zones to explore was the moon dance forest. Regardless of what Leo would find in that zone he thought that at least the name was really good and mystic, a place bearing a name like that could only hide wondrous things.
The only problem was how to get there, there weren’t many roads and Leo didn’t have much knowledge of sarum to known the best possible route for that trip. In the end, he left his inn in the morning and after many hours of getting lost in the forest he finally felt like he was getting near to what he was searching. In fact, Leo noticed how both the flora and fauna of the forest started to slowly change as he progressed on his path. Trees looked more oriental and the Windsor mobs became more scarce in numbers, in their place some higher leveled and more fierce looking mobs appeared, but that was to be expected for a new zone. Leo continued to walk on his path while keeping a curious look in his eyes, after a while he noticed some houses in the distance and a strong light that radiated above them. Leo looked the orb of light in awe and also noticed that a giant tree could also be seen in the center of that village. Leo didn’t know much of this new zone but he recalled hearing a lander talking about this sakura tree, apparently a tree extremely important in the lore of that small village. Leo continued to look around to see if he missed anything interesting before making his way to the village when he finally saw it: A strange cart stopped moving not so distant from his position. When that cart stopped, a small girl in school uniform jumped out of it and Leo immediately recognized her. She was the little tank Caerbannog. Without thinking about it twice, Leo changed his track and jogged where caerbannog left the cart, he waved at her and tried to get her attention,
“Hey Caerbannog!”
He shouted at her, when he was near enough he then returned to his walk pace and greeted her normally with his hands in his pockets as usual:
“It’s been quite a while isn’t it? Are you perhaps exploring this village too? Isn’t it beautiful?”
Leo didn’t know why but he felt a lot more cheerful that day than he usually was, maybe it was because he was in his exploring mode or because he just met a friend he didn’t see for a while, anyway his usual serious expression would feel a lot less cold to those around him in this state.

Caerbannog watched the back of the merchant's cart as it moved farther away from her. In that direction was Moon Dance Village, a place that she was yet to visit; she heard that it was an interesting area because it was different from the rest of Sarum. Some say that Moon Dance Village had Oriental roots. It was apparent with the quest that she took: a thieving band of oni. In certain folklore, oni would gather and become a nuisance to humans. That seemed to be the case with this quest as well. They were no different from some thugs that set out to rob and pillage, but because the culprits were oni, the strength of adventurers was needed to fight them. The cart moved farther away towards the Moon Dance Village until it was just an eighth of its actual size. Time and distance really were odd things but Caerbannog was thankful that most of the laws of physics in the real world applied to Elder Tale as well; with the exception of skills, of course. As the samurai thought about that, a familiar voice called out to her. At first, she looked left and right but Caer ended up having to turn around completely to see who it was. She tilted her chin higher as the figure walked closer; the swashbuckler who was... barely present in their Windsor Dungeon run! Caerbannog's eyes lit up and she raised her arms above her head. She then walked towards Stryke as her fingers wiggled, her hands pointed at the direction of the other wolf-hair's head.
"Wan-chan!" the samurai greeted the swashbuckler, 'Wan-chan' being a pet name for 'puppy', "Let me rub your ears!"
There was no Kumori to tell her off this time. Caerbannog hoped that the swashbuckler would comply, but she couldn't do anything if he didn't. People were still people after all, not actual puppies that liked ear rubs or belly rubs. Once their greetings were over, the samurai sent a party request to Stryke and shared the details of her quest with him. She knew little and in fact, she only knew exactly what was written on the quest. Maybe the reward was a pot of gold, or they could be up against weird oni that collected-
"-MY UNDERWEAR!" cried a young female lander to her friends just as the merchant arrived at Moon Dance Village, "THEY'RE MISSING!"
"Oh dear, didn't I tell you to keep your laundry inside your house?" one of the other women replied, "There has been a string of robberies lately."
"B-but I only left them out for an hour!" the underwear-less lander sobbed.
"Let's just get you some new ones. Nothing we can do about those perverts..." another one of the friends replied as she led the distraught female to one of the few small shops.
The merchant parked his cart beside the local grocer and an attendant came out to greet him. Without a word, they both started to unload the contents of the cart which were mostly produce from Londinium and beyond; things that were not found in Sarum or Moon Dance Forest. A fit, middle-aged man with auburn hair, the merchant was a common face in the village and he had heard about the robberies but thought nothing of it. Maybe an adventurer could help out? Well, it was not his problem so he never thought about it and his family was in Londinium so it should not affect them. Still, having a daughter himself, the merchant became slightly worried because the perpetrators had not been caught.
"Say, about the rob-" the merchant asked the attendant, but the latter cut his question short.
"Oni," the attendant simply said as he, a tall and lanky young man, pulled a few more barrels from the cart, "Some eye witnesses said they were oni. I wouldn't be surprised if that was true."
"Huh... oni," the merchant helped the younger man, "We don't have those in Windsor Greatwoods."
"Yeah they only appear around the village," the younger lander said as they continued unloading the cart, "They're up to some kind of mischief every now and then. But they can be rather obsessed with collecting things."
"You ever seen one?" the older lander asked as they finished unloading everything from his cart, "An oni, I mean."
The attendant was thoughtful for a moment before he lifted one of the larger crates and headed into the grocery as he spoke.
"When I was a kid, I think I saw one," he replied, "They aren't really aggressive against this village. That orb protects us somehow, I think. As for the oni that I saw, that was when I went fishing in the lake; I hid behind a rock when I saw a strange shadow... timely too because it was an oni with his large hammer and all."
"I see, I see," the merchant nodded to the back of the attendant, "I hope that kid will be okay then."
"Which kid?" the lander suddenly turned to look at the man from Londinium.
"Ah... some little girl, an adventurer I reckon, out to hunt oni or something," was the reply, half of it a wheezing laugh as if he did not believe what he was saying.
"Oh, if it's an adventurer then I don't think you should be worried," the attendant sighed in relief, "Even if it was a little girl, she's probably stronger than you think she is."
The two people of the land then proceeded to go about their duties and the merchant eventually settled down to rest for a while. In the meantime, somewhere in the Moon Dance Forest, the thieving group of oni rejoiced as they checked their latest bag of loot. The 'ugly' things were tossed in a large bonfire in the midst of their camp, while the 'pretty' things were put on some trees that belonged to each member of their merry band. The largest oni, in particular, seemed to only collect striped underwear as his tree was brimming with them. The smoke from the bonfire rose high above the trees and the brightness of the flames shone through the forest. Perhaps if some adventurers stepped into the woods, they would eventually take notice of that light behind the trees.

Maybe being more cheerful that morning wasn’t going to be good for Leo at all in that moment. In fact, the wolf hair had forgotten that a peculiar thing happened everytime he met the little samurai known as Caerbannog, something he didn’t particularly like at all. It all happened in an instant, Caserbannog saw Leo and then started walking towards him with her hands extended to his hand; the most terrifying things were her wiggling fingers, and sawing them Leo started to slowly remember an realize what he was coming into.
“wan-chan”
Wan-chan? What does that mean? The swashbuckler didn’t know Japanese but something in his mind told him that it surely was something akin to puppy, after all that’s what she’d call him all the time. Then much to his surprise, Caerbannog asked him (or rather commanded) to let her rub his ears. Leo wasn’t that much surprised by what she was going to do, he had already accepted his fate a long ago but what surprised him was the tone of her voice. He remember Caerbannog as a girl that talked every once in a blue moon and only to a few selected people, she must have grown greatly since he last met her.
As already stated, Leo had already accepted his fate. He had much to repay to her, she even crafted him his new swords for free which he loved and till he managed to set the score even or do something really nice to her he decided to let her get that swift moment of joy of rubbing his wolf ears. This time he didn’t even sigh, he just lowered his head and poof, his wolf ears appeared out of nowhere, they surely know the right time to appear though, Leo still had little to no control over his wolf features.
As usual, Caerbannog’s soft touch sent a chilling feeling down his spine and right on his tail, which started wagging back and forth. It was beyond humiliating but he couldn’t help it. Once she was satisfied, Leo raised his head again and scratched his wolf ear:
“You know, sometimes you got to explain me why you don’t rub your own, we both have wolf ears afterall”
Leo said in a friendly sarcastic way, maybe it weren’t the ears, maybe she just saw Leo as a puppy, and that thought was far more creepy.
Apparently, the reason Caerbannog appeared in the outskirts of the moon dance village was completely different from Leo’s. She had a quest going on and she happily gave the swashbuckler all the details about it. Leo didn’t start his little trip for a quest, he only planned to explore the place around but he figured that doing a quest in company would be far more interesting. In fact, he’d still get to explore the forest after all and with a friend, how could he ask for more?
Leo accepted the samurai party offer and then he stared at the quest details a little more: this was a straightforward quest not different from others found in other mmorpgs, a simple battle quest. The only thing new for Leo was the name of the monsters they would be facing, they were called oni and Leo was sure he didn’t get to fight any during his travels. Despite his very little Japanese knowledge, Leo knew that oni roughly translated to “demon” in English, quite a threatening name, isn’t it? All the better for the action packed swashbuckler.
The only problem with these kind of quests in this world was just one, you don’t have a minimap to find the targets you’re searching for. That meant the two adventurers had to search for clues about the location of this group of onis, a task more difficult in some cases than one would expect. Despite this setback, the two adventurers didn’t lose a moment and started searching inside the woods, if this task could take a lot of time it was best if they started it as soon as possible. Fortunately, the two wolf hairs seemed to pretty lucky today; in fact as soon as they stepped in the woods, Leo noticed a bright light that could only belong to a bonfire. As they got near the source of light, Leo could hear some grunting noises coming in that direction and also distinguish a few figures in the shadows.
“BOSS! BOSS! Puny insects here!”
A grunting noise resonated behind a tree, a single oni appeared and quickly ran in the direction of the bonfire.
“Seems we found them, let’s go”
Leo said with a grin and started following the escaping oni.
“WHAT! Busy with goody goodies!!”
Another higher voice resonated from that oni camp, it was a big Oni that lustfully smelled something that appeared to be….underwear?
The oni briefly stopped its disgusting activity to see what was going on, As Leo came near to the demonic beast he realized how different these onis where from other mobs he fought. They were certainly and threatening, the mask on their faces was also nothing to laugh at. What interested him though was that they were mostly humanoid in appearance, Leo had yet to fight an humanoid monster.
The big oni took a long stare at the two adventurers, particularly at Caerbannog, which the beast looked with lustful eyes behind its mask.
“Uuuh, I like tiny girl….I want tiny girl’s underwear, tiny is better! Get her!”
Leo’s jaw dropped as he heard that big oni talk like one big pervert, there were certainly many strange things in this world,
“And kill ugly puppy man, I hate dogs”
The oni finished. Ugly puppy man? Leo scuffed annoyed and unsheathed his two new swords: the radiant blue quickslicer and the pitch black aconitum, with these swords he didn’t have to worry about his former low dps and they also carried some really nasty debuffs for whoever was sliced by them.
“I don’t know about you but this guy is pissing me off”
Leo told Caerbannog, then 2 other onis appeared behind the big one, which put them at a disadvantage of 4 to 2.
“alright, you’re the tank, Care to do the honors? I’ll follow right after, I’ll show you what these two blades you made can do”

The wolf-hair samurai giggled and squeed as she rubbed the swashbuckler’s wolf ears. They were cute and fluffy and warm and twitchy, just like real puppy ears! Eventually, Caer noticed that Stryke seemed uneasy with the whole touchy-feely thing so she stopped and stepped back a little. Every now and then she still muttered “wan-chan!” under her breath and giggled at the thought of rubbing the puppy ears again. Even Stryke’s direct question about the samurai’s own wolf ears did not faze her. The answer came naturally to her mind; though one might not have expected it, Caerbannog did, on certain occasions of boredom, rub her own fluffy wolf ears.
“It’s like tickling yourself,” she answered bluntly, “Pointless.”
Caer spoke with such a disinterested tone that it seemed to be the exact opposite of how she reacted to rubbing Stryke’s ears. The poor swashbuckler might have to deal with such situations now and in the future, that is, unless Caerbannog found another target for her borderline harassment. Time flew by and soon they had to move out to find their targets. Why was Caer in the woods anyway? Why did she go to Moon Dance Forest? Was she there to hunt for tanuki and kitsune? Was she there to rub wolf ears? No… her objective was to wipe out a band of thieving oni! She had no idea as to what they actually stole, but it must have been some valuable things if someone wanted them to be wiped out from the face of Elder Tale. The pair had only walked a short way before some light from behind the trees caught their attention. The blue-eyed samurai stared at the curious sight before her. Were those… someone’s undergarments? Over their heads and along the branches of trees, multiple underwear hung from above and swayed with a weak breeze.
“I didn’t think oni would wear teddy bear panties,” Caer pointed up at a bright yellow piece with the face of a brown bear on it.
As she looked around though, it became apparent that these oni could not have worn those undergarments. They were all male! Or at least they sounded as if they were male. Did they like cross-dressing? Did creatures in Elder Tale have such preferences? Caerbannog put some thought into the situation that the pair found themselves in. If these was the thieving band of oni… and they were supposed to grab their ‘loot’ as the reward then…
“Huh?” the samurai suddenly looked up.
Maybe she was hungry so her brain was not working all that well. Or maybe being around a fluffy puppy made Caer stupid; either way, the oni leader’s less than friendly greetings made the samurai stand to attention. The big oaf had said something about dogs and underwear. Caerbannog blinked at the incoming enemies and then she grabbed the hem of her skirt and pulled it up, which in turn exposed her blue and shirt striped undergarment.
“You mean this?” she asked honestly.
If she remembered correctly, her rabbit Hyzenthlay would have said something about being unable to get married after getting one’s underwear exposed. That’s not a problem now though because Caerbannog was already hitched. What the samurai worried about was the fact that she would have to run around without underpants if the oni got to her. Sarum was not as cold as the Windsor area, but she imagined it would not be pleasant to run around pantsless. Caer then put down her hands and patted her skirt. Stryke seemed to be eager to fight and because she was the tank, the smaller wolf-hair stepped ahead of the young man. She then put up her two hands, her middle fingers raised to the sky while the remaining fingers were pulled up to her palm: Samurai’s Challenge.
Two lesser oni headed for her at once, not poised to hammer her down but instead they tried to grab the wolf-hair. Caer ducked beneath their arms and she headbutted one of the attackers right on the gut. She then stepped back quickly and shot her knee up towards the oni’s crotch. BULL’S EYE! But while that one oni rolled around in pain on the ground, the other attacker managed to grab Caerbannog’s right arm. The creature pulled the girl towards himself; their leader wanted to capture her (and her underwear) so the oni did not intend to mess her up. The little wolf-hair was not as kind though. She straightened the fingers of her left hand and stabbed it right into the oni’s side. Before her target backed away, Caer grabbed one of his ribs and the two were stuck in a grotesque tug-of-war.
Meanwhile, the oni leader jumped onto his tree of treasures and continued to examine their recent finds. Two of his lackeys waved their hammers overhead as they ran towards the swashbuckler. Unlike Caerbannog’s attackers, they were inclined to attack immediately as soon as the taller wolf-hair was within their range. The command had been to crush the ‘dog’ so that’s exactly what they would do. As a few moments passed, the nut-cracked oni managed to get up on all fours and he grabbed Caerbannog’s leg while the other oni, whose rib was being manhandled by the samurai, pulled towards the other direction.
“No no! Don’t make mess!” the oni leader scolded Caerbannog’s attackers, “Must add to collection!”
He then waved a few of his ‘collectibles’ at his lackeys.
“Get tiny girl’s striped treasure!” he roared and then offered a reward, “Exchange for TWO of my bunny treasures!”
Upon closer inspection, the oni leader seemed to have offered a handful of bunny-printed underwear, which were undoubtedly some more stolen ‘goods’ from the nearby Moon Dance Village. These thieving oni might be a lingerie-maker’s best friends, but to the landers of the Village, they were annoying and troublesome. Furthermore, who’s to say what they would do if someone, heavens forbid, tried to TAKE their ‘treasures’? Perhaps the swashbuckler or the samurai could find out after their brief tussle with the creatures.
