“Ahh, my Scribe subclass level has really fallen behind my other two levels.” Steel said to himself with slight disappointment as he walked down the streets of the city. As a person who usually focused on fighting rather than crafting, it was obviously his main class that had the highest level among his three classes due to him diligently, almost to the point of obsessively, fighting several monsters and sometimes hostile Adventurers almost every day. Due to several accidental uses of his Courtesan skill Allure, something that has caused the Swashbuckler much trouble in many different ways like for example being chased by a mob of angry guys because the skill was accidentally used on their dates or girlfriends, even that skill has been leveled up somewhat although it has made Steel become moderately fearful of romantic events such as Valentine’s Day. What troubled the Japanese young man who would soon turn into an adult was that his scribe subclass, the subclass that wasn’t chosen randomly unlike his Courtesan subclass, was at quite a low level due to the fact that he hasn’t had much time to level it up. It wasn’t as easy to do compared to the other two classes he had and he didn't use it much while training since he just let his body move itself. Well, Steel had decided to spend his time today to level up the said subclass. He had bought all of the necessary materials for his craft from the market a few minutes ago. He even bought some mana fragments from alchemists so he could try out some of the more complicated recipes from the Scribe’s repertoire. When he first crafted the objects Scribes were capable of, maps and quill pens for example, he thought he wouldn’t be able to create the more complicated objects because they required mana fragments, something that could only be produced by an alchemist. Due to his below average social ability, Steel was not able to approach people he didn’t know and ask if they were alchemist or not. Usually, he met people due to chance encounters where he didn’t have to go and talk into a group of strangers and unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to meet one in this fashion. Thankfully, he had been tipped off by someone that he could buy the required mana fragments from the common market, thus eliminating the need to get them from another person. By the time he finished his thoughts, he realized that he reached his destination. It was the same place he used for his previous time of crafting. Steel was surprised about the coincidence that the first empty crafting station he could find was the same as last time, not that he was complaining about it as he entered inside. He immediately began to take out the materials he had bought from his inventory and then began to think. What he was doing was that he was going through the mental checklist in his mind for what objects he would make today. First and foremost, he knew that he needed paper for some of his objectives and since he was already familiar with this part of the craft, he decided to start with this.

As Steel prepared the pieces of paper that would be used to make the thicker parchment paper, he noticed that the sink he would be using for the said action was somewhat clogged, probably due to the previous user of this space. “If you’re going to be using a public space, clean it up afterwards! Other people use these places too!” He exclaimed, voicing his thoughts out loud even though the person that left the sink in that condition most likely was not within hearing range. After sighing a little out of annoyance, he began to get to work unclogging the sink and cleaning it so that his parchment paper wouldn’t be covered in whatever was in that sink. Several minutes later, the sink had been unclogged and in Steel’s opinion, acceptable enough to work in. After cleaning his hands which were covered in something that Steel could not identify, he then began his work. The pieces of paper themselves were slightly larger than a page of a notebook back in the real world. Once they were fused together, the end result would be much bigger, big enough for a map. Using the sink in the corner that he just cleaned he began soaking the papers together, merging the fibers together, creating the slightly stronger paper known as Parchment. “Looks like this is better quality than what I made before.” Steel said to himself with a slight nod of approval for what he just made. As expected, it wasn’t perfect but it would fulfill his needs and that was enough. Even though he would use the paper for a further craft, it was the ink that would be given more attention to.

“Looks like it’s time for me to get out of my comfort zone.” Steel said to himself with a bit of a grim smile. What he was talking about was the fact that he would be using mana fragments in his crafting starting from now. As he had no experience in this area, he was worried that the mana fragment might explode or something. To ease himself, he decided not to start with the mana fragment but rather with the ink something he was more familiar with as he had already made and used it before. He grabbed two ink containers, both with somewhat dried ink inside and headed towards the sink. He turned on the water and filled both containers of dried ink with a decent amount of water so that the ink could be usable again. To further this point, he began mixing the insides and soon, the contents became a normal consistency for ink, one that was more liquid than solid unlike earlier. This little process of things wasn’t exactly new to him and he felt his body relax a little. Maybe it was the system assist or maybe his body already remembered how to do these sorts of things but Steel felt as if his body was partially automatically moving on its own. At least he was still conscious about what he was doing so it wasn’t like his body was being forced to do these actions. In fact, it felt completely natural. When he finished up with the ink, he took out a slightly larger container and poured the contents within the two ink containers into this one. It was now time for the last step. Steel began to get a little scared of what might happen.

Still somewhat scared of what might happen, Steel seemed to almost intentionally slow down his movements as he set down the larger container with all of the ink and started carefully walking towards his gathered materials. He kept his eyes on the last piece of the object he was making, the mana fragment. He completely forgot that even if he died, he would just be revived so he shouldn’t be fearful of the small piece of solidified mana even if it did explode. Steel was only human after all and his emotional habits from the old world that everyone should have had as well were still with him. He stopped in front of the small pile of mana fragments and began hesitating to do this. “What would Kyousuke do?” He asked himself as he began to think how his late friend would have acted in such a dangerous situation. He then remembered a dangerous situation from the past. Despite the fact that a whole nest of hornets were coming at them. Kyousuke who was allowed to be outside of the hospital for the day, just laughed before shouting “Forward!” and charged in without any hesitation, bug spray and lighter in hand. Steel knew that he couldn’t just be a scaredy cat and just grabbed the mana fragment with his hand, now without any hesitation and was now ready to use it. With his newly found courage(?), he began walking over to the container of ink he set down earlier. He took hold of the mana fragment and put it inside the ink before jumping back as the ink inside began to glow, making him think it might explode. It seems that his worry about an explosion has receded but thankfully, the ink did not explode. Instead, the ink had been transformed into Magic Ink. Steel became excited as this was going to be the basis as to what he was primarily going to be doing. Today, he was planning on making different types of stuff that required the Magic Ink. He especially wanted to make the explosive ink and maybe even the invisible ink. That meant he would need to make more of the stuff. Well, it’d be worth it with all of the stuff that he’ll get.

"Okay, time for set number two!" Steel exclaimed to himself as he got ready to make yet another set of magic ink. One of the things he was planning to make was Explosive Runes since it was now available to him to craft. It made Steel wonder why there was a need of the level requirements for crafting when it wasn't really a game anymore. Technically, couldn't he have just done all the steps himself, even before he reached the appropriate level? Then he remembered what happened with cooking. If one's level wasn't high enough, the food being cooked would turn into a type of purple mush. He dreaded what would happen if he did this sort of thing without the right level since it used the unstable mana fragment. Steel then shook his thoughts out of his head for the time being. Anyway, according to the instructions, making a set of Explosive Runes required two sets of magic ink. as well as another mana fragment and a quill for some reason. Ah well, he was planning on making a new pen anyway. He then went over and grabbed two more ink containers, both with somewhat dried ink inside and headed towards the sink. He turned on the water and filled both containers of dried ink with a decent amount of water so that the ink could be usable again. To further this point, he began mixing the insides and soon, the contents became a normal consistency for ink, one that was more liquid than solid unlike earlier. Steel felt that this process would get very repetitive, making a ton of ink in this way. Ah well, ink and paper are practically the Scribes' bread and butter, it's our main thing alongside a little bit of magic. Steel thought to himself as he finished up with preparing his two bottles of ink.

Although he didn't fear the mana fragments anymore, at least to some extent, Steel was still cautious as he walked towards the pile of mana fragments. The reason being, the mana fragments were still quite an unstable substance or object and Steel still didn't want his hand blown off or have an accident happen. He quickly grabbed one of the mana fragments which he thought was of a good size and walked back to where he down the two containers of ink earlier. He set down the mana fragment on the counter before turning back to the two bottles of ink he had prepared earlier. He took out a larger bottle that could hold all of the ink he had prepared and emptied both container's worth of ink into the larger bottle. For good measure, he stirred the combined volume of ink to make sure it was fully mixed together. He then looked at the mana fragment he set down earlier and began to ponder about something. I didn't think about this earlier because last time I thought it might have exploded but how does the mana fragment mix with the ink? Does it melt or something? That seems to be the most likely case since it mixes with the ink to create magic ink. He again decided to stop his thoughts to focus on the task at hand which was to pick up the mana fragment and put it in the ink mix. he took hold of the mana fragment once more and dropped it into the container of ink. It began to mix with the ink on its own after liquifying or something and before long, Steel had another set of magic ink on hand, perfect for what he was planning to do later. "All right! I can really get started now!" Steel said excitedly.

"Oh wait, before I get on with making the Explosive Runes and all that, I should make a Sorcerer's Quill." Steel said to himself now that he had two sets of magic ink. "All I need to do is somehow fuse my own quill with a mana fragment right?" He then looked at the quill that he had made on his first day of crafting. It was already starting to wear down from all the times he's used it so far during his time here in this world. "Looks like the one I have won't do at all huh? It appears I'm going to have to make an all new quill pen beforehand then." Steel wasn't expecting this little impediment to his plans but he wasn't too bothered by it since he would still have enough crafting materials because he had bought extra just in case. He got a new quill and another small container of somewhat dried up ink and got ready to make a new quill pen that would be better than his old one and he would later turn that quill pen into a Sorcerer's Pen. "I still don't know how this works." Steel muttered to himself as he looked back and forth between his quill pen and the small container of dried of ink. Even if he turned the ink into something more usable, the Swashbuckling Scribe had no idea as to how one put ink into the quill. It was the same issue last time he made a quill so Steel gave up on that and just opened up the crafting menu. "I have no idea as to how do this so I'm just going to give up and use the crafting menu to make this like I did last time." He said to himself as he manipulated the menu and used the system to automatically fuse the two together. After a flash of light, Steel had a new quill pen that seemed to be of better quality than his old one. "Now that I got a new quill pen, I can now move on to making that sorcerer's quill!" Steel said with excitement, ready to make an even better quill.

Now that Steel had a new quill pen, he was ready to make a sorcerer's quill which didn't take much effort to make. There was only one thing that was on the Swashbuckler's mind. He picked up another mana fragment and was now looking back and forth between his just crafted quill pen and the mana fragment. "Now this makes even less sense." Steel said to himself, wondering how one was supposed to manually put in a mana fragment into a quill pen. For making the quill, he didn't know how to put the ink in the quill but he knew that it was possible because it was a liquid. In the case of a mana fragment, it was practically a solid. How would someone put such a thing into a pen in the first place. He then remembered that the mana fragment sort of melted and mixed with the ink when he put it in back when he was in the process of making Magic Ink. I guess it's possible sort of... Steel thought to himself with a sense of uncertainty as he didn't know how all of this worked. Steel as well as the other adventurers came from a world of science and technology. Although those two topics had a place in this world too, there was no such thing as real magic back in their world. Therefore, many of the adventurers, including Steel, had to get used to magic and how it worked. Some people got used to it and began incorporating it with the knowledge they had from the old world. At this point though, Steel was just lazy and he decided to just save himself the trouble and open the crafting menu again. He manipulate the menu with his right hand and selected the two items that were now in his left hand as the objects being used for crafting. After pressing the ok button, a small flash of light happened where the quill pen and the mana fragment were. Once the flash of light subsided, there sat in Steel's left hand a brand new Sorcerer's Quill. "Awesome, I got a new Sorcerer's Quill!" Steel exclaimed as he held it up in the air. Once he noticed what he was doing, he pulled his arm back down. "Wow, that was a bit too much like that guy with elf ears, green clothes and a glowing triangle on his hand." He said in slight embarrassment, glad that nobody was around to see.

"Now then, what's up next?" Steel wondered to himself as he kept his new Sorcerer's Quill in hand. There was a vast amount of things that could be done with what he's got right now. He then thought of the object he wanted to make a lot of. He wanted to make the Explosive Runes, the reason being was that it was ink that could explode upon reading the word that were written with that ink. Steel thought that would come in handy against monsters who were weak against fire. In fact, he already decided that he wanted to make this but then he forgot all about it while he was making the magic ink and the Sorcerer's Quill. "It's finally time to make some explosives." Steel said to himself with a smile. He set down his two containers of Magic ink before quickly grabbed another one of the mana fragments which he thought was of a good size and walked back to where he down the two containers of magic ink earlier. He set down the mana fragment on the counter before turning back to the two bottles of magic ink he had prepared earlier. He took out a larger bottle that could hold all of the ink he had prepared and emptied both container's worth of ink into the larger bottle. For good measure, he stirred the combined volume of ink to make sure it was fully mixed together. For some reason, I feel that this could be potentially even more dangerous than before. Steel thought to himself as he stirred. He had good reason to be wary. the liquid currently in the larger bottle contained the equivalent of two mana fragments, something that was considered unstable, and he was going to put in yet another mana fragment into the mixture. Quite carefully as if he thought that the ink would explode before it was supposed to become explosive ink which was only supposed to explode on vocal command anyway, he slowly inserted the new mana fragment into the mixture before stepping back out of caution. The new mana fragment melted into the mixture and the ink glowed brightly for a bit before coming to a halt, almost as if it were signalling to the Swashbuckling Scribe to finish the process. Steel remembered that the recipe called for the use of a pen for some reason. Steel couldn't really figure out how that worked since technically, the ink was already made so there should have been any need for the pen but he was going to try something. Steel walked over and had his arm extended towards the container with his Sorcerer's Quill in hand. Once his hand was in reach of the mixture, Steel carefully dipped his pen into the mixture. With that, the mixture glowed a bright light and when it subsided, it was now the Explosive ink that Steel wanted to make. "Awesome! Now I got some explosives now!" Steel exclaimed in excitement. "This opens a lot more possibilities for my battle style!"

"Now what should I make?" Wondered Steel as he put away his newly made set of Explosive Runes into his inventory. To be honest, he was planning on stopping after having made the Explosive Runes but he felt that it'd be such a waste if he just stopped like that. He still had more crafting materials he could use and it wasn't like anyone was outside the room he was borrowing, urging him to hurry up. Steel began to ponder how he could spend the rest of the day. He was aiming to only raise his Scribe subclass today after all. He began to think of the other items he could craft. He then remembered that he had promised a friend or acquaintance of his, depending on how the girl in question thought of it, that he'd make her a map so that it'd be easier for her to get around. Now that he thought of it, in order to update that map, she would also need a pen. Well, that gives me two things to craft. Steel thought to himself as he stretched a little. "I guess I'll start by making her a pen. Since she's a sorcerer, I think I should make her a Sorcerer's Quill." Steel said to himself as he thought of what to do. He already did this once today so making another Sorcerer's Quill wouldn't be such a big deal and he already made the parchment paper needed for the map. He grabbed two ink bottles with somewhat dried ink inside and began to prepare them when he got to the sink. He turned on the water and filled both containers of dried ink with a decent amount of water so that the ink could be usable again. To further this point, he began mixing the insides and soon, the contents became a normal consistency for ink, one that was more liquid than solid unlike earlier. He then took out another quill from his little stash and set them both of them on the counter. Being lazy, he used the crafting menu to combine the two together into a usable Quill Pen because he didn't know how to insert the ink manually. "I guess that's good enough." Steel said to himself as he got ready to turn it into a Sorcerer's Quill.

"Time to finish this up then." Steel said as he was finishing up the preparations. He set down the pen he had just made and decided to get the mana fragment needed along with this in order to make this a Sorcerer's Quill. As he walked towards the bag of the mana fragments, he slipped on some water that was on the floor and landed face first into the table that had the materials, causing them to fall all over the floor. "Well, that would have been embarrassing if anyone saw that." Steel thought to himself as he got up and looked at the mess. "Looks like I've gotta clean up before proceeding though." He said before proceeding to pick up the various materials he was planning to use for his day of crafting. Within about 10 minutes, everything was back on the table albeit a bit messy. "I guess that's good enough for now. I'll properly clean it up when I finish up." He then grabbed a mana fragment and got ready to make that new sorcerer quill. Again, he gave up on making this manually so he decided to use the menu once more. He manipulated the menu with his right hand and selected the two items that were now in his left hand as the objects being used for crafting. After pressing the ok button, a small flash of light happened where the quill pen and the mana fragment were. Once the flash of light subsided, there sat in Steel's left hand a brand new Sorcerer's Quill. "Okay, that should do it." Steel said as he finished half of the gift he was making for a friend.

“Now it’s time for me to get started on making that map I promised Eris.” Steel said to himself as he looked around for the piece of parchment paper he made earlier. In retrospect, Steel wondered why he made the sheet of paper first since he was originally just going to make the Explosive Runes as his final craft of the day. If one thought about it, if you didn’t need to use it for a craft, there wouldn’t be a need to make the sheet of paper. Because it wasn’t in use during the entire time, Steel had lost track of it and was now trying to find the stupid thing. He began wondering whether he accidentally knocked it down like he had done accidentally earlier so he decided to check the floor but he couldn’t find it. He then wondered whether he put it in some high place so he decided to check above like in the cabinets within the room. Unfortunately, he still couldn’t find it. Steel began to scratch his head, wondering where he had left it. Unfortunately, none of my observational skills from Basketball or Kendo is going to help me here. Steel thought to himself in annoyance. Due to the high pace of the sports he participated in back in the real world before he moved to London, Steel, or Takeshi had to learn how to observe the playing field and be able to analyze and react quickly in order to avoid his opponent’s attacks or to get the basketball into the hoop more easily. However, in order to do that, he needed to be aware of where the target in question was in the first place. In this case, he had no idea as to where the paper was nor was it moving so his observation skills were practically useless now. “Where is the darn paper!?!” Steel exclaimed in annoyance as he looked around some more. He then passed by the Explosive Runes ink he had made earlier and found the sheet of parchment paper right next to it. Steel face palmed at this because he had been searching so hard for it and it was sitting right there. “Ah well, at least I found it.” Steel said as he picked up the parchment paper and walked over to the small desk in the room. He set down the parchment paper and took out his Sorcerer’s Quill, not the one he made for Eris mind you but his own, and began to draw out a map on the sheet of parchment paper.

He started out with filling out the basic template for the map that practically everyone had access to if they went down to the town square where the parliament building would be. In fact, he was looking at a copy right now. His body, or more specifically his arm and hand, began moving on its own to some extent due to the system assist that was helping the Swashbuckling Scribe in making the map. It didn’t take long for Steel finish this part and had finished the basic version of the map, similar to the first one he made back when he first started out. At this point, he was just going to add in the map data that he had collected on his own journeys, making the map more detailed. He accessed his own map and began letting the system sort of do the work for him. As he worked, he started remembering why the girl he was making this for needed this map. She had a terrible sense of direction which was proven from their first encounter both in the real world and in the world of Elder Tale. Natalie had gotten lost in Tokyo while going along with her father on a business trip in Japan. Her in game character Eris the sorcerer, who was basically the same person anyway, had gotten lost to the point that she got off track from the hunting grounds for the beginners and somehow ended up in an area that had monsters at least level 20. Steel wondered how one could get that lost. On a side note, on both occasions, she had gotten into a fight with a group of guys due to her attitude and Steel/Takeshi had to step in and drive them away and calm the situation down. Anyway, if that woman had a map, she’d probably have an easier time getting around and hopefully not run into much trouble. Oh who was he kidding, she’d have to take care of that mouth of hers first before things got better. “Well, at least she’ll be less likely to go into the more dangerous areas if she already knows where they are.” Steel said to himself with a bit of a sigh knowing that the sorcerer wasn’t the best at getting along with people that annoyed her even a little bit. With that thought out of the way, he had finished his work. The map now had Steel’s own map data in it. Along with the Sorcerer’s Quill she would get, Eris could update her map wherever she went. “Okay then, this should do.” He said with some satisfaction in his work.

Again, he was wondering what more he could do today. He had already done a lot today and it seems that time has passed quite a bit from when he first started. When he had started today, it seemed to be a bit before noon, maybe around 11 o’clock. Now, it was almost sunset. At this point, Steel decided to call it a day. It was late and he didn’t feel like making more Magic Ink which was needed for a majority of the other objects he could make in some way because it was too tiring and repetitive. This was a completely different sentiment than earlier where he was somewhat afraid of making the Magic Ink due to the rumored instability of the mana fragments. He wondered why it had to take so long to make those bottles of magic ink. He then began to clean up his work space, wiping ink stains and putting away extra crafting materials. He made sure everything was in place back how he found it before putting into his inventory the objects he had made today. Thank goodness for the inventory system. Steel thought to himself with a bit of relief. Without this little game system that was taken for granted by most players, everyone would have to carry everything by themselves and that simply wasn’t possible with all of the stuff that players had. It would have been a pain to carry the stuff he had made today. As he finished packing up, he heard his stomach grumble. “Hehehe, that’s right, I didn’t eat lunch or dinner today. No wonder I’m so hungry now.” Steel said with a bit of a nervous smile as he stepped out of the room he had been using. “I guess I’ll pop by the old man’s shop for some Japanese food.” The old man Steel was referring to was a person he had met a while back and was the first person that Steel knew of that cooked Japanese food in this area. After that, he had frequented that shop and had many conversations with the shop owner and the few other people that worked there along with the other customers, both Adventurers and People of the Land. The funny thing was, the man wasn’t even Japanese but back in the real world he had went to Japan to study culinary before going back to England. The talks there were always a fun way to end the day or keep going in the day. It didn’t take him very long to reach the shop and he poked his head in through the opening in the door. “Yo!” He exclaimed in friendly greeting as he headed in. “I’ll have today’s special sushi, takoyaki, and some pork ramen.”
“Sure thing Takeshi.” The shop owner who was also the head chef said to Steel in response, being one of the few people who called Steel by his real name. “So what have you been up to today? I’m pretty sure you didn’t go hunting today or else you’d be more tired so you must have been something different today.” He said as he began to prepare the food. “Did you go on a date with a girl or something?” He asked with a teasing grin.
“Oh shut it old man!” Steel exclaimed in annoyance. The relationship between the two was similar to that of a teasing type uncle and nephew. “That’s all that’s in your mind isn’t it? Anyway, that’s not the case. I was just crafting some stuff for future adventures.”
“Looks like you’ll be even more dangerous huh?” The shopkeeper said with a small smile as he put the finished food in front of Takeshi.
“You bet it old man.” Takeshi said before beginning to eat his food. The night continued with more similar conversations about everyday life.
