Managing Events etc: A (Mod) Team Effort

This RP forum has a great player base. Despite background differences, people come together and weave their stories and relationships.

This RP forum has great individuals as mods. Individuals... when they have to work together, such as sitting down and talking about researches, or starting and continuing events to prevent it from jumping down the cliff of inactivity... shit happens. Take this for example:

- When I started as a samurai, the forum event that had been going on for quite a while was SARUM. I do not know when it started, perhaps with the official launch of the forum? But Sarum was already the event/arc when I joined (Feb 2014). It was going slow until a bunch of us started pumping out the posts to complete it.
- And the Sarum Completion Event was unlocked in May 2014. People signed up for it. People were ready... but nothing happened.
- And then the Londinium Underground Event began. It was there that we found out that players are supposed to start the thread for modded event battles. I immediately started the thread to Confront Stonehenge. This was September 2014. Sign-ups finished May, fight started September. What happened?
- Notably, because -I- started the thread, I was someone who did not know any of the information that the mods planned/wrote about Stonehenge, there was some discrepancy at the beginning of the thread. The minute information in the Sarum Completion Event thread stated that Stonehenge appeared at sunset, but Hiro said that it's supposed to appear around the afternoon. This was ironed out eventually.
- Data Holder was active for the most part, except during the last stage when it took a month before he posted. Was it his fault? Partially. There was little immersion in his posts. I could not even visualize what was happening anymore. But here's what's up: Data Holder is a multi-mod account. He could have been replaced by any of the other mods if he was unable to post or unable to pump out some muse. The boss probably has a character/data sheet from which other mods can get their information.
- I'm not even going to talk about the Windsor Castle Dungeon run. Where we suddenly had to NPC a boss that was supposed to be modded. I'm not.

Outside of events, have you seen the crafting and AP claims list? It looks like a warzone during the middle of the week. Sure there are member-approved claims, but it's not the responsibility or obligation of RPers to check claims.

Would you go to McDonald's and take your own order? And cook and serve it too?

And what about that mod list? There are nine up there but how many are actually contributing to running the site? Life, RP, emergencies... all of these happen to each and every one of us. But when you have a responsibility, either attend to it or let go of it. Put inactive people on probation. Do not give them power until they are able to step up to the title.

If a doctor was in the middle of an operation and he suddenly had to go to the bathroom, is he going to leave the patient lying there on the operating table with his guts cut open? Is he going to say "hold up! brb 10 minutes don't let anyone touch this!"? NO. He is going to pass the responsibility at that moment to someone else. And if he keeps skipping on his responsibility, he will be given less responsibilities until there are none.

Have you seen a plant with withering leaves? The plant will try to supply energy to the withering leaves and it will redirect resources from healthy parts to the useless, decaying parts. The withering leaf must be cut off to save the plant.

If you don't like how things are done, there's the door. If you're going to bitch and complain but are going to continue to stay anyways, then don't bitch and complain in the first place. It makes you look like a wench and it just pisses people off rather than make progress. If you're honestly bugged by something, then you should do something more beneficial than whining about how the Staff operates.

Life is life. It exists. Not everyone has time to do everything and mend to your every want and need in the game. If you don't like it, suck it up or quit. I've learned that the hard way by whining as well.

Saber, it's not about complaining or bitching... it's about asking for the moderation team to work together as a team rather than as separate individuals. I don't think that's too much to ask, and yes, the door is right there, and we can all leave, but the fact that we've made our places here means we hold a bit of a stake here. So, I disagree with you. We are giving constructive feedback in order to make this forum better. If you cannot look at criticism in that way, then I suggest refraining from commenting.

In the end, if nothing changes, the door is right there, and people will choose to leave or stay. However, leaving should be a last resort. Anything we can do to help the forum is better than the ultimatum.

No, this isn't criticism. This is complaining to the mod staff because they haven't taken enough time out of their lives to cater to your needs. The Staff are busy and they have things to take care of. They don't get paid for this. Unless you're going to write them a check every two weeks or every week that allows them to quit their jobs and their school, then don't expect them to be 100% active all the time. The Staff do what they can but you can not expect them to always be active, all of the time. Expecting such things sets you up to be disappointed.

If you don't like that the staff don't reply very quickly to threads, don't post in them.
If you don't like that claims take forever, then post in other people's claims and do your part to help. It takes two people to approve a claim; Neun + Rien = 2 people. And that equation can be changed for any two people that join the forum.

Complaining that the Staff aren't doing enough when you can obviously help out, but have not been doing so as I don't see either you or Neun posting in Claims or running any kind of DM threads in places, isn't fair to the staff. If you're going to complain that weight isn't being pulled, then start pulling some yourself.

It seems that my words will probably never reach your ears, so I will stop arguing with you. This thread is merely mentioning what we see as problems. We have seen RPs grow due to good teamwork and leadership... we have also seen RPs fall for the very opposite. Take this thread as a complaint or take it as a means to grow. Regardless of which path the forum chooses, the results of membership will be the ultimate victor.

And the member count is rising everyday with the Forum operating the way it currently does. The only people who have recently left are ones who have bene banned or ovelral uninterested in the RP.

If you are trying to make some sort of ellusive statement saying "Change or we're going to leave", then save us the trouble and find another forum. Progress is made gradually and the Staff do what they can. Tools have been provided to the members to help and very few do so, which is not a bad thing as it is not an expectation that people help. I do not blame anyone who chooses to simply play the game.

But if you're going to whine because the Staff have let the claims get backed up when you yourself can go through them, and you haven't, then shame on you. It's a pathetic show to put on.

If you don't like the fact that this is a roleplay and threads move slowly, then don't participate and let someone else, who is patient and happy to just get the chance to play, take your spot.
