the inns and outs
Dusky wasn't quite sure what to expect when he awoke for another day. With a yawn, he pulled his cloak around him tightly as he made his way to the lobby. The Lander attendent of this particular establishment, affectionately called The Cat's Meow, would offer free stay to Werecat patrons as long as she could pet their heads. Due to this generous charity, many cash-strapped werecats found themselves in these halls to ward off the cold of night until the sun rose again. The elderly Lander lady beamed brightly when she saw Dusky making his way to the restaurant section of the inn.
"Good morning, my dear!" she said brightly, lightly scratching the dark, obsidian-coloured fur on top of his head. He couldn't help but purr a little as she did so, his ears twitching a little until she stopped. "What'll it be for ya this lovely morning? Saucer of milk? Freshly caught rodents?"
"Um...some eggs and bacon if you have any," he replied sheepishly. The woman realized what she said, smacking herself lightly on the forehead to show that she goofed.
"Ah, deepest apologies sir. I often forget that you all have the same appetites as the other Adventurers."
She let out a small laugh, giving Dusky another couple pats on his head as she went to drop his order off for the chefs to prepare. Pulling out a deck of cards (a complimentary gift of the inn, found inside the night table of his room), the werecat challenged himself to see if he could use the whole deck of cards to build a tower before his food was prepared. As he dumped the cards on the table, he scanned the room, and sure enough, a couple other adventurers and Landers were doing the same.
A place where people can pet cats and build card towers. Probably the weirdest concept ever conceived, but hey, it seems to be working.
Dusky managed to get halfway through the deck before the Lander lady came back with a plate full of piping hot scrambled eggs and a couple strips of crispy bacon. A glass of milk and orange juice was placed next to the plate, the woman giving him a farewell ruffle between his ears as he began to plow his way through his morning feasting course.
After the meal had been devoured and the beverages downed, Dusky leaned back in his seat as he rubbed a paw over his content belly. The attendant came by once again and deposited a package in front of him as she collected her plates. "I'm afraid to be asking a customer such as yourself this, but could you possibly do an old woman a huge favor?" she asked. The werecat stared at her for a moment, then glanced at the package and gave her a nod.
"Ah, thanks a million!"
She clapped her hands in delight before she began rubbing her hands on Dusky's cheeks. The werecat was powerless as she laughed and cooed at him before she remembered what else she needed to tell. "Oh, that's right! The recipient! You'll find him running one of the textile stands in the main market street. Just ask for a man named Dunstan and they should be able to point him out."
Tucking the parcel firmly underneath his arm, he walked out of the building, starting the longest quest he'd ever undertake. And he had absolutely no idea where this all would take him.
[Old Parcel] - A meticulously wrapped parcel, but for some reason looks like it's been untouched for years. Its contents will forever remain a mystery.
