Kaos stares at the aging facade of the old train station, the signs of nature trying to reclaim it and a faint glow coming from inside. The air was full of the sound of murmurs and the sound of metal clanging against metal. The sweet sound of people hard at work. He smiled and walked inside, looking for a free table to spread out and work. He stopped and watched fellow adventurers and People of the Land work on their perspective projects. This place is as thriving as ever, everyone is working hard. He finally found a bench and sat down, clearing off some baubles left behind by the previous user. After heaving a sigh at having to clean up after someone else he began to strip the baubles down to acquire some raw materials. At the very least I can use the scraps left by others.
Kaos places a quill, ink pot and parchment on the table before tying back his hair and readjusting his glasses. Even if I'm not a scribe I should still be able to take my own experiment notes. He lays out some materials in front of himself and begins to grab some items. I bet I can make a mana focus and possibly a augmentation for a shield to allow for wider protection. Of course I'll need a shield to test it. He charges mana between his hands as he repeatedly attempts to cast Scape-doll to make 1 Mana Fragment for 5 gold. He then wraps filaments to hold it together and connects them to a rank I diode in the center of the configuration, ensuring it fits in the palm of his hand. Ok, now I just need to connect this here... Kaos connects two filaments to a rank I circuit housed in a cartridge and watches as the mana fragment glow and then blink out.
FAILURE!
The materials disappear, leaving behind the mana fragment. He writes down exactly what he did, step-by-step. I need more mana fragments and I wonder if I need to ground it better, and possibly get a scribe who can draw these out in case one works. First on the list, I need mana fragments to put out a small force field in a desired location, this way spell casters can have a shield but it should also be usable by other classes so that they can improve their defenses. If combined with a shield it should provide protection bigger than the shield without inhibiting the users movement or sight. So it has to be colorless... Kaos writes down his notes and sighs softly, pinching the bridge of his nose. He stretches out his back and readjusts his glasses before gathering more materials.
"Let's try this again."

Kaos charges the mana between his hands to make 1 Mana Frament for 5 gold. He places the two mana fragments dawn and wraps two Rank I filaments around them and connects them to the opposite end of the other. Ok, this is just like using two batteries in a controller. All I need now is a cartridge, a focus and a way to make this work. He wires two more filaments to the crystals before inserting the crystals into a cartridge. He then attaches the filaments to a circuit and wires a diode on. Ok, now to just add a little extra mana to this and.... Ah-ha!
A faint blue light emanates from the cartridge and the diode blinks blue then grows steady. He picks it up and aims it towards the wall. A faint blue disk about a quarter of a meter in radius forms in front of his hand, when suddenly the parts disappear and the two mana fragments fall to the table. So close... If two fragments lasted about a second at a quarter of a meter then more fragments would mean more power. He scribbles down his notes and stretches once more before putting his two fragments away and getting up to go search for food and drink.
FAILURE!
He stops at the nearest chef and orders a hamburger and apple tea before returning to his station where he sits and enjoys his meal. After finishing off the burger and cup of tea he pulls out his supplies. Not only do I need to get this to work, it has to remain compact AND be wearable. I need a blacksmith, leather worker, tailor and who knows what else to make sure this Mana Shield is possible. He sighs and walks over to the Bulletin Board and hammers up a note before returning to his work station.

Walking, lots of walking. The city is big, not as big as London but having no means of transportation really makes it difficult to go around town. Walking back to the inn im staying in from anywhere in the city takes me a long time, aswell as taking me through the city square. When I arrived at the city square, I noticed a new note on the job bulletin board. I went to it and read the new massage “ah interesting” I think to myself, Kaos is looking for some help with a project he’s working on. Well a friend in need is a person im going to help. Quickly I start going towards the work station he mentioned on the note. Ill probably find him there, I think to myself. Ill help him make whatever it is he’s working on. Almost arriving at my destination I see him walking towards the station approaching him I say “Hey old friend long time no see, I saw your note and came here hoping to help you” he starts responding, when someone shouts at us to get inside the station or go away. So we go inside and go to his work station. Then he starts answering me. Tags: KaosWC:214

Kaos charges mana between his hands again to create 1 Mana Fragment for 5 gold. He starts wrapping the filaments around the mana fragment when he gets startled by a noise behind him. He drops the fragment on the table and turns to see tzuf23 coming to his station and readjusts his glasses. He wipes some dirt and grime off his cloak and shakes his hand. "Hello Tzuf23, how are you? Oh, you're a blacksmith right? I got this project, you see, and if it works the way I believe it will then I will need a metal gauntlet and a shield, preferably tower or kite but whatever you can make is fine." He turns back around and gets back to work in full 'Mad Scientist' Mode. "You see, by making these mana fragments and wrapping these wires, or filaments as they are called in this world, around them I can create a rudimentary battery. This when wired properly and given enough power should be able to generate a shield made out of pure mana, thus allowing for greater protection of spell casters but if we can combine it with shields somehow then we can bolster the protection a Guardian can provide. Alternatively if a samurai such as yourself were to use it, it may be able to protect you while you await your long cool downs or suffer from debuffs. Frankly, I think it is quite ingenious albeit not entirely successful as of yet." He scratches his head and wires the three crystals together in a blossom configuration and links them to the circuit and diode. He picks it up to test it once more, this time the diode glows a pale blue continuously and puts out a half meter disk. The output seems linked to the number of fragments I add, therefore I need to keep adding them until I hit the maximum output. This is working gloriously. Once again the components explode and disappear, leaving behind the three mana fragments. FAILURE!

“A gauntlet and a kite shield please” He says. I respond with “Sure” and run off to another work station, to start making the kite shield. Settling down I start melting down some metal. Allot of metal, enough metal to make a kite shield. Once its liquid I put it into the sheet mold I made for the tricycle and start hammering hard. To make it as straight as possible. After I made 5 sheets of different shapes and sizes I put one on every corner and connect two of them using my last plate. Seeing I don’t have enough plates, I make a few more. Again hammering down on it to make a straight plate and connect the other two plates to each other. Making two different half’s of a shield. I start making the last two sheets by again hammering it and straightening it out and connecting the two sets of plates together. I also leave space in the middle for the wrist strap and round pointy bulge. I try to straighten the center part of the shield so it defends the sides aswell. I almost finish the shield when suddenly kaos calls me over to see something. I come look at his work station, seeing a powered up battery emitting a kite shield like mana field asking how he did it he instantaneously replies. Tags: KaosWC: 235

Kaos watches tzuf23 work on the shield as he rests to replenish a little mana before trying to make another fragment. He watched the sparks fly with each beat of the blacksmith's hammer on the hot metal. It's hard to believe that we have ended up in this world are capable of changing it, for better or worse. He watched as the metal was folded and flattened, finding it almost therapeutic as the sound of ringing metal rang throughout the halls. He turned back to his work and wrote down some notes when he hear some shuffling behind him and heard tzuf23 ask him how he created the Mana Shield. "You see, I focus my mana into the crystals then create a circuit to draw the mana into this diode to focus it into a thin field in front of the user. So far that has been the most successful test but if you'd like, I can show you how I do it." Kaos focuses the mana between his hands and goes slow enough that tzuf23 can catch it crystalize into 1 Mana fragment for 5 gold. He then take out four filaments and wraps them around the four mana fragments layed out in a cross pattern. He then takes two more filaments to connect the crystals to a circuit and houses them in a cartridge. He then wires the cartridge to the diode and powers up the shield. A light blue disk forms measuring three quarters of a meter across and hold steady for a few second before blinking out and powering down. I think I've got the formula figured out, not to just perfect it. The materials disappear once again leaving behind the four mana fragments. FAILURE!"So close. I think if I can get a battery or two to recycle the mana flow, it will work. Hey Tzuf23, how is that shield coming along?"

“The Shield’s almost done” I answer him, walking back to my work station to continue my work. Now what ill need to make is a round dented center piece and a leather strap for the wrist strap. I firstly make a small ball of metal by using one of the molds I made for the tricycle earlier. Then I start hammering down on it until it’s almost a round metal bowl that has an edge on one side and a round dent on the other. I then start attaching a leather strap, I had with me that I planned on using for another project im working on. I barely attaching it. Immediately afterwards I pour liquid metal on the sides of the strap to connect it fully to the center piece of the shield. Then I heat up the rest of shield and use it’s hot state to connect the two pieces together. Crafting a level 1 metal kite shield. Finishing it, I go back to his work station and give it to him. Leaving once more to craft the gauntlet. To start im going to have to make a hand looking shape using bent plates to make the fingers and wrapping the rest around my hand to make the main part of it. I’ll start with the finger’s I think to myself and start working on the plates. First pouring the liquid metal into the casts to make the plates. then pulling out the first two plates I bend them towards each other and bend their sides to make a finger like shape. I then repeat the process a few more times and once I finished the fingers. I get called yet again to kaos’s work station. I come over there and look at what he’s doing. Tags: KaosWC:317

Kaos reviewed his notes and scratched his head as the air filled with the sounds of tzuf23 hammering. He continued reviewing his notes, comparing them to a list of known crafting recipes. Its possible that even if I figure this out my level will be too low for it to work. I should probably prepare for that eventuality and plan another research project and maybe make some lamps to better light this station. He stretches and looks at the shield that was handed to him; the shield looked a little off, like it was rushed. "That seemed fast, are you sure you didn't miss a step?" Kaos moved the shield to the corner of the table before returning to his own work and creating 1 Mana Fragment for 5 Gold. He took the new mana crystal and wired it to two batteries and set them on them down on the table. He gathered up the rest of his supplies and readjusts his glasses. He grabs two cartridges, a circuit, and a few more filaments. The wires the fragments together then to the circuit and inserts it into the first cartridge. He put the mana crystal and battery system into the second cartridge then wires the two cartridges together. He then takes a diode and wires it to the assembly he made. He writes down his notes then picks it up to test it. The faint blue disc formed again, this time staying up for several seconds before exploding in his hand. "Ow! Shit! That hurt..." So it works, just overheats. It needs an on/off switch and a heat sink.Failure!

I forgot the reinforcing so it would stay together even if hit hundreds of times or exploded. Good thing I grabbed it a second before the explosion saying to kaos “Sorry forgot the reinforcing” and so I went back to my work station and made a few more plates. the idea is to reinforce the connections by using half liquid metal plates and melding them on both parts that are connected. I start by making the plates I need. they need to be longer and they need to be thicker then the plates I made before so they wont break as easily and break the shield into two halves. I then carefully place each plate in its spot and hammer down on it until it’s almost melded into the shield. then I drop it fully into the quencher and wait a few minuets. then I lift it up and gaze at the now finished product. Crafted level 1 Metal Kite Shield for 10 gold. Success. this time I actually finished the shield quickly giving it back to kaos. I start working on the gauntlet. now doing the back part, for it im going to need a couple more plates one round and edged at the back two curved around the sides of the arm and one straight on the back of the arm. I start making the plates and use my own arm to measure their size. Finishing with making the plates I start welding them together by heating the sides up hammering on two pieces that connect to each other and cooling them down in the quencher. also known in our world as coolant. once finished I start preparing for working on the middle part of the gauntlet. Then I decide to look what kaos has been able to do in the meanwhile and go towards his work station. Tags: KaosWC:314

Kaos thought for a minute and took two of the fragments and charged mana between them. 1 Stabilized Mana Fragment formed and made him smirk. I get it now, it wasn't working because the mana fragments were unstable. If I get four of these to make up the grid and one to keep the batteries charged and recycle the mana but what if there is a way to generate a pulse as the user channels mana into the device, about 1% of overall mana should power it. He scribbles down some more note and looks over as the shield is brought back to his table. "Ah thank you tzuf23." He leaned back and listened to the clang of metal and the murmur of voices throughout the crafting district. There is no true order in this city, yet everything is still running. He reviewed his notes before removing his glasses and rubbing his temples as he planned his next move. I need to keep making these mana crystals, stabilize them and then place them back into the same configuration. He looked through known crafting recipes again and smiled. A Magitech Inductor, eh? That is something I could use to funnel the users mana and boost it in order to form the shield and keep it up. However, I can't make that until I'm level 10... Well, as long as I'm working on this device, I'll be raising my level.

OK almost finished I just need to make the connection in the middle and ill be done with that for a while or at least until kaos gives me more work. For it im going to two plates one will slide into the back part and one will slide into the front one. Both connected to each other so it can move but also still be hardy enough to withstand blows there is no need for reinforcing on gauntlets since they are built well enough to resist most damage they can get. I start working on the first plate first making using the mold I have for plates then I bend it using my hammer to make a plate adjusted for sliding into the back plate. Once I finished I start on the second plate now adjusting it for the front plate. Realizing ill need two more plates for the back side of the arm. I start work on them and eventually I finish. I then start connecting by first placing the back one over the front one and meld them together by heating them up and hammering on them once they were melded together I slid them into their place and welded it together in the same way I connected them to each other and once I had finished I crafted a Level 1 Metal Gauntlet for 10 gold and headed towards kaos’s work station placing it at the corner and waiting for his response. Kaos took the gauntlet from tzuf23 and takes two of the mana fragments and combines them in a flash of light into one Stabilized Fragment. If I can speed craft a few more mana fragments I can then craft a few more of these and go from there. He leaned back and took out his Starter Sword and stared at it for a second. I wonder if there is an augmentation that can be made to these swords.... I might not be able too but maybe Tzuf can."Hey Tzuf, is there anyway you could make me a sword that boosts my Summoner capabilities?" He looked at the summon, his hair falling out of his hair tie. He quickly runs his hand through his hair, fixing his hair and readjusting his classes.

“Maybe” I start “It’s not for sure but I could try making it better ill start on a sword right now anyways since I have nothing better to do.” Ill start with the handle I think to myself while walking towards my bench im going to have to make two steel plates interlocking with each other to make the handle then later im going to have to make the blade although I wont think of that right now ill think of how to make it later. I start by making two plates one longer and less wide and one wider and less long both the same thickness so they won’t break or chip since this is where you’ll be holding the sword. Once I made the two plates I meld them together at the middle of both then I wrap leather around the bottom part of long plate where you will hold the sword I then meld it into the metal by hammering it and then heating up some metal and pouring some on the connections then cooling it down. Kaos stared at the table, his head hurting slightly from all the mana channeling and repetition of what he had been doing. He pinched the bridge of his nose and thought for a minute. Maybe it's not the cores but the filaments. Perhaps if I made some reinforced wires I can create a better Mana flow.... He tapped his index finger on his table repeatedly as he thought about his next move. He ultimately decided to watch tzuf23's work on the sword to allow his mind to rest a moment after making 1 Mana Fragment.. Abel paced back and forth in his office, his mind racing as he awaited his answer from the Hospital's Director. He had just put in his assessment of the new experimental treatment he was heading. He had been running the test for a year now and had just finished his Ph.D on top of his M.D. and was nervous to see if his research would be accepted. Soon the news came that his research could not only continue but was doing so well they were going to dedicate an entire wing of the hospital to it and give him enough funding to handle the expansion. The only downside was that he had to assemble his own team and would become a member of the board, if after another year his research proved viable. He thanked the Director and shared his disgust of having his arm twisted into potentially joining the board, even if he was half-joking.Kaos walked over to Tzuf's station and sat down out of his way as he watched the Blacksmith work. Things in this game still surprise me all the time. Yet I feel as though becoming a part of this world may not be the worst thing ever.
