Saskia hesitated with an uneasy expression outside the penumbral mouth of the cave, shifting her gaze this way and that as she looked for any sign of activity.
It was uncommon for her to traverse territory in which she wouldn’t hold a tactical advantage of having her gallant steed, Icarus by her side to aid her.
There would be no comforts of companionship to quell the fears that swelled within the knight’s chest.
The sheer darkness put her off a little, with the occasional electric blue sparks crackling from damaged wires making an even sharper feeling of unrest swirl within her mind.
She fondled the oil-soaked torch at her belt, considering her next move. The labyrinth was eerily silent, not even insect sounds permeated the stagnant hush.
The shifting of Saskia’s weight from one leg to another rustled some loose rocks in the earth, the small noise seemed extremely loud in the pocket of quiet.
The Wolf Hair let out a thoughtful suspiration, checking the area around the entrance.
A damp mist wove between her feet, masking the ground above the wetter areas of the leaking subway tunnel.
There was no sign of recent movement around the cave, though the environment itself was near perfect for foul creatures.
The cave was without any light, not even the odd brazier smoldered in the entrance, as was sometimes typical where small covens were involved.
The surrounding run down subway trains provided much cover, and had made the cave difficult to find, though the upper levels to St. Pancreas Substation was only a short walk away.
It should have been ideal for a kobold, but she couldn’t see the faintest sign of one.
Saskia gathered herself. She had her generic steel sword that she had just acquired from the NPC shop a few weeks prior.
The weight of the hilt allowed her to handle it with a fair amount of ease and the edge was still fairly sharp. Other than that, it held no special attributes or qualities of significance. In her left arm, their was a steel shield that she held at the ready close to the center of her chest.
For a brief moment, she placed her weapon by her feet while she withdrew an lit the single torch she carried, retrieving the weapon afterword, returning it to it’s royal blue scabbard, which was embroidered with golden lacing.
She took a last breath of the outside air, held the torch ahead of her in her left hand, and ventured in.
Aside from what little the torch could light, the cave was utterly black. No lights burned within, and no sun permeated the thick, unbroken earth walls.
Saskia had to stoop for the initial inding tunnel, which rather than descending into the earth at any point kept fairly level.
Eventually, the ceiling lifted away, and she crept on hesitantly. She was used to at least a little light, even in caves and dungeons.
Its utter absence kept conjuring images of things lingering in the dark, and the occasional paranoia that she was surrounded by foul creatures, just out of reach of this torch...

Sense, though high on the priorities of Aegon, likely was not something that anyone attempting to head into this dank and dreary sewer system could claim to have. But regardless, he went in. There was not much to say - he did so with a reason, but a reason as simple as the one he held could easily be accomplished through reliance on someone else.
What he wanted to achieve was making a mental map. Perhaps there was a Scribe who could just as easily chart a map, and there were easier ways of this than through firsthand experience, but Aegon was not someone who liked to rely on others, and he was most certainly someone who would balk at the idea of taking matters into his own hands.
The idea sprouted into his head not too long ago, and after realizing that there might be a veritable stockhold of valuable items lying in its depths, he had decidedly taken the opportunity to see it for himself. The results were a matter of course, then - though as of this moment, he had not found anything.
But it was experience, and experience was welcome regardless of the situation, if only to further his own goals.
The bottom of his boots once more smacked against the wet, dirty ground. The resulting sound was a squelch that would make any of the faint-hearted sort quite sick, but Aegon was headstrong, and such things were far from the worst of his worries. Not that he had many in the first place, but regardless it was not something that made him act coy.
Far from it - as if in response to an unspoken challenge, he continued his pace without faltering in the slightest. Pulling his knees high with each step, his gait was set on the backs of his heels. To most anyone, it would seem an odd sight, but Aegon supposed that anyone down here would be more surprised by the fact that someone else was here, instead of their manner of walking.
Which is what he expected to happen once he faced this person who had wandered near him with a torch. Similarly to himself, she had come prepared, had she not? Armor and a blade - both these things implied that she was ready for whatever situation might occur. Of course, Aegon held to mind the possibility that there was a difference in personality versus her equipment, but it was not something that could be gauged without direct interaction.
As a result, on the side opposite of her, the river of muck flowing between them, Aegon raised his torch in an attempt to both get a better view of her face whilst also shielding his own from sight.
Momentary silence. He chose his next words carefully, though his tone of voice would not imply that at all.
❝You are very well-equipped for a simple walk to view the scenery. You could say that you've impressed me. Though, beg my pardon if I am incorrect - but if there is some other reason for wearing such armor, and bearing arms, then I might be remiss to change that view. Could it be so?❞ LAIKA OF GS!

Boots, caked in mud and debris, first caught Saskia’s glance as she walked through the hall of shadow. She had found the source of a squishing noise from within the tunnel. As she glimpsed upward toward the flickering tangles of orange and red that were borne out of the blazing torch, it revealed a shadow of a figure standing before her.
Her luscious pink cotton candy strands of hair bounced in apprehension of the suspect as she narrowed her eyes to observe the stance of the creature. It didn’t seem to walk in an odd or hunched manner, so she inferred that the figure approaching was a person, much like herself who took up the foolish ideal to explore the nefarious pits of this untamed underground wasteland.
As her sparkling pools of heavenly blue sapphire gems reached out to capture a glisp of his face, the most she could make out was the blissfully blue hair that seemed to stand out in the flickering light. The shadows of the flame concealed most of the man’s facial features, but Saskia assumed by the avatar’s build and garment that he was a warrior much like herself.
As he approached, she sensed that - like her, too - he moved with a sense of purpose and a bleeding fervor of someone with a refined and focused will. As if the very strings of destiny shook beneath their feet.
As they gazed upon each other, Saskia suddenly felt weary and the corners of her eyes seemed to fall apart at the scenes. Her face tensed slightly as she tried to disentangle herself from the overwhelming sensation of grogginess.
She had been tending to her champion steed, Icarus, during the night and had minimal time to get sufficient rest so it was no surprise that when the man spoke, some of the words were lost in translation. She could make out bits and pieces of what he had said.
A comment regarding her outfit, though the spoke so eloquently that most of what he had said had gone over her head. She took a moment to gather her thoughts and tried to attempt a reply that wouldn’t end up leaving her feeling embarrassed or socially inferior, regardless of her discomfort and fatigue.
She looked upon the man with a very stern gaze and cocked her head to the side inspecting him. She then flashed a mischievous smirk as she spoke in a low, calm voice.
“Just came out for a little stroll, I figured I might fin some treasure or good items if I lurk about where most people don’t have stones to venture off into... and you know what they say...the freaks come out at night. So I figured I’d bring a little protection. Can’t ever be too, careful, right?” She then flicked her head and tilted it to the opposite side this time.
“So, you wouldn’t have happened to run into any Kobolds lately, would you? Rumors are the damned place is bloody infested with them. They crawl out the side of the walls like roaches!”
Saskia chuckled, taking a more casual approach to the first meeting. It always made her feel more comfortable when breaking the ice with a stranger, and perhaps she might be able to pick his brain for some useful information while she was at it.

A treasure hunter, was she? It seemed to Aegon that she was the kind of Adventurer that lived up to that very title. He himself couldn't blame her -- after all, adventure in this world was the sort that could never be achieved in the world they all formerly lived in. It was new, it was risky, but most of all, it was thrilling.
Beyond thrilling, in fact. Every step outside the territory that were regarded as safe could be considered venturing into a realm where death could be around every turn. Of course, as Adventurers, they would all revive within a cathedral, or be revived by a party member, but that didn't take away the reality behind the fear of battle.
Aegon couldn't say that he had so far experienced that, but he wasn't a very fearful person in the first place. He exuded a confidence that was far removed from fear and other sorts of unsightly behaviors. One might even say he had crushed those sorts of feelings from himself a long time ago.
His manner of speech only helped to suit that idea, and coupled with that, his fine choice of words as well.
❝If I have seen them, they would more than likely be dead by now. But, as the both of us would know, there's no such thing as a corpse in this world, so I doubt that you would be able to confirm said deaths -- if they had happened in the first place.❞
For anyone unused to his sort of talking, one might have quirked their eyebrow or otherwise nodded their head in confusion -- and such things would have been well-warranted. Aegon deliberately wanted to mess with people's heads when he spoke, and though he wasn't antagonistic by any means, he did enjoy their reactions for the most part.
However, his main reason for this was that he guessed she herself was looking for some sort of gain from having headed down here, and as a form of caution, he spoke vaguely in order to keep himself from being a target of that. Even if it wasn't a right guess, it would still allow him to maintain his composure. Regardless, he followed up his odd phrases with a few semi-standard words.
❝You seem intent on gauging the fidelity of these rumors. Taking into consideration that there might truly be a deep-set infestation of those creatures, would you like to consider pairing up for the time being? A back well-covered is a back that lives to see another day, after all.❞ LAIKA OF GS!
