Recently, Londinium had been abuzz with talk of a grand dinner party happening... somewhere named Avon? As Charity walked down the streets, wondering how best to prepare for her next foray outside of the town walls, she could hear adventurer after adventurer talking about it. Only one caught her attention, however. "Did you hear?" Said a low-levelled Monk to his similarly low-levelled Sorcerer friend, obviously very excited about the entire prospect (his friend looked very uninterested in crafting, however). "Any crafter can help! It's not just food, even a Level 1 Tailor like you can make something and get a reward!" ...Even a Level 1 Tailor... --- According to the posting she'd seen on a billboard in town, the host of the party (someone named Chef Van Rouge, apparently) had requested that tailors make... napkins. Well, of course she wasn't making anything fancy when she was just level 1. After all, she didn't really know where to begin with the napkins... a "napkin", as far as she'd ever been concerned, was usually the paper sheets given to you for free at fast food places. Only the fancy places used cloth napkins, and she'd never had the money to go to one of those. Thankfully there was help. A girl, who looked like a young maid, stood by the board offering help to adventurers. How kind of her, especially when she noticed a short, blushing, and very nervous Shaman with blue hair who looked like she had a question she didn't want to ask. Within a few minutes, Charity was sat in a tavern with a tailoring kit and a stack of cloth in front of her. According to the maid girl, the materials were being provided free of charge by Chef van Rouge as a sign of good will! Which only made Charity feel even more nervous about potentially messing it up. --- So, all she needed to do was cut them to shape and sew some nice patterns on, right? It couldn't be that hard. She picked up one of the pure white pieces of cloth, and stared at it. Where was she even supposed to begin... With a small, slightly blunted pair of scissors, she began carefully cutting... the wobbliest edge she'd ever cut. Never mind, try again. Moving a bit further in from the edge, she cut again. Slightly straighter, but still somewhat off. Third time's the charm, as she cuts the edge of the cloth to a fine, straight edge. Okay! ...now just the other 3. After a large amount of cutting and a staggering amount of wasted material, she eventually ends up with a quite small but perfectly square piece of white cloth. Progress! She puts down her scissors, and raises her needle. Looking through the threads given to her, she carefully selects... a blue thread. Blue and white are usually good guy colours, right? So they should make a good napkin. As soon as she began, she realised she had no idea how to sew. None at all. All of the internet tutorials she'd read over a year ago had faded out of her mind, and in a blind panic she closed her eyes and felt her hands move almost on their own. When she opened them... a fairly okay embroidery pattern. Nothing fancy, but at least it looked nicer than just a plain white square. Nice! Now to try and make a few more! She'd been given four other pieces of cloth, and she set to work. Cut cut cut, sew sew sew. White square, pattern blue. Humming this two lined rhyme as she worked, she cut each one. By the last napkin, she managed to cut the edge straight on her first try. And as she raised her needle, she sewed in the pattern carefully and precisely (with her eyes open too!). With a proud look in her eyes, she beamed down at 5 napkins of varying sizes and patterns. Well, she guessed they weren't amazing. But... they would do. They were enough to make her proud. | |
