WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT!? A monthly contest!? Where the hell have all these been, you're probably asking! Or, you're asking: What the hell even is a monthly contest? Or, maybe, what the hell does Hiro know? I ain't thinking that! Sheesh, you assumptive jerk! In any case, it's been so long that it makes sense that a lot of people don't really know what they are, so I'll give a brief explanation as to what they are.
A Monthly Contest is a month-long competition sort of thing, where the members are given the chance to boast their creativity, as well as try and make the site much more lively in the process, by influencing different things, or creating fantastical pieces of art and literature. It's a time where we all come together, to help make the site a bit of a better place, as well as vie against one another for the prizes that will be given at the end, when the members (that's you guys) choose who did the best out of the certain criteria! Speaking of which, here are the contests that you will all be allowed to enter!
1. Lune Event Creation!: Everybody can kinda see how Lune has had a bit of a lull in activity, so here's a way for everybody to get more involved in the whole process. Members are allowed to enter an event, made by themselves, to help boost the activity in Lune. This event should likely not be combat-oriented, nor is it a quest of any sort. Any and all Lune Landers can partake in the thread, including ones made for the express purpose of joining the thread(s) for the event! The event threads will be given a bonus 25% AP rate for every post made during the duration of the event time period, which will be 2 weeks from the day it began. A moderator will signify once the event has begun when the event's effective period will end, in the format of Midnight on dd/mm/yyyy in real time. Be sure to include what goes on, and how people can participate! A little note about the event: Based on what the event entails, it could end up effecting the Plot for Lune. Every decision matters, in the big city.
2. Art Contest: Scene by Scene!: This one is a bit different from all the Art contests we've had in the past. For this contest, members are allowed to recreate a scene from any of their character's adventures in the world of Elder Tale, depicting a highlighted moment from the adventure. The artist will then be asked to give a short tl;dr as to what is happening in the scene. A simple, yet infinitely interesting and creative way to show how life for your character has been in the world away from home. Definitely worth checking out!
3. Writing Contest: How do you spend your Free Time?: Yet another difference from how the usual Writing Contests went, this one will have the member pick a character (Lander, Adventurer, NPC, or otherwise), and depict how they spend their free time. Plenty of options for the member to choose from, as well as many hilarious outcomes for the people to spend their lives when the spotlight isn't on them. The max word count for each entry is 1000 words. Not too long, not too short, but plenty of room for some interesting and downright funny stuff to happen!
Entering an entry to the contest is simple: Just send a PM to Neko Hiro, with the entry inside, and they will be kept until the date the contest ends, on July 2nd, 2015. Each entry will be listed in threads of each category, where each of the entries will be filed, and then voted upon via Polls by the members. That's it! Nothing else to it!
Now, the next thing you're probably wondering is: What kinda rewards do we get for this? Well, I'm glad you asked, because everybody's getting some stuff! Participation rewards will include small items or trinkets, allowing your character of choice to show that they entered the competition, or even small amounts of AP and Gold. Winners from each category will receive a custom-made Item or Skill, which they themselves can customize! However, these items or skills will not provide any boosts, buffs, or bonuses. They will be purely aesthetic, and will not be given to anybody else, aside from the member's selected character. As an added feature, suggested by Desue, the winners will be given the opportunity to make a non-site-related request of any, or all, of the moderators. Lots of possibilities there, eh? Please keep it within reason, of course.
A little disclaimer, of course. I think it should go without saying, but any profanities or excessive cursing for any of the entries will cause the entry to be disqualified, as well as the owner of the creation to not receive any participation rewards. Another thing to note is that, if a member wishes for their event to be plot-influencing, that the Moderators reserve the right to tweak it slightly, in order for it to fit into the lore. The event itself should be the same, but some influential characters may make appearances. Who are these characters, you wonder? Well, you'll see. :) We also reserve the right to deny a request made by a player, and request that they choose something else. Please, don't ask us to do something incredibly embarrassing. I mean, I might do it, but I can't speak for any of the other mods.
