Ah, the Windsor Wood. Sylvia remembered all too well her last visit to these woods, an event that was less then ideal. Their party had nearly wiped when both her and Apoc had nearly fallen to a hoard of persistent slimes. The battle was long and at times nerve wracking, back then she was but a low level newbie who tried to take on the world far to early. She was still a low level newbie when compared to the higher level players wandering around, but she was no longer so ignorant and weak. Thanks to that day, she had earned herself several levels worth of experience and made herself even stronger. She had learned several new spells, and even upgraded her weapons and armor using the money that the slimes so generously left them. Indeed, she was much better off then she had been before.
Now well equipped and more knowledgeable, Sylvia once again traveled through the forest alone. And Sylvia strained to make sure she would be alone with every fiber of her being. It wasn't that she hated Apoc, for secretly she rather enjoyed his company, you know when he wasn't being on oblivious jerk face. But today she was on a self journey of discovery. She was here to try and level up her subclass, Animal Taming. And she didn't want him scaring off her potential slaves before she had a chance to work her magic on them. So no, today she wandered out alone and did her very best to cover her tracks as she went deeper and deeper into the woods. She was no tracker, and thus had no special skills to help her in this. But neither was he, so she was confident that her effort to cover her tracks would at the very least fool HIM. And she was content with that. If any sort of ninja was lurking after her, hiding her tracks would be the least of her worries.
However, the deeper into the woods she went, the more lost she would find herself. Eventually Sylvia would stop and actually begin to wounder if traveling deep into the woods was actually a good idea. What if she got lost? What if she never was able to find her way out again? What ifs, and could be's flickered through her mind but she ruthlessly squashed each and every one as quick as they came. It wouldn't do to fall back on her nerves now. Not when she was so close to glory and her precious prize. She had chosen the sub class Animal Trainer, and she was here to train... something. Just what she was going to train was actually beyond her understanding. For what she knew about this world was that practically everything was labeled as a monster in some form or another. Each monster had various typing's, but they were monsters none the less. Was there actually any sort of limitations to her skill? She was going to find out.
Pressing a finger to the air in front of her, Sylvia brought up the menu and stared at her own profile for probably the seventh time that day. She was a level eleven adventurer of the Druid class, but only a level 1 of the Animal Taming class. She was quite unsure of how to start honestly. Killing monsters was simple enough, but befriending them was a whole other story. "Let's see... Scout. The Animal Trainer attempts to recruit a monster to their cause in order to create a temporary partner." She nodded to herself, reading a bit deeper to try and help solve her problem. "This is often done by approaching the monster without startling or aggravating it. If performed successfully, a tamed monster will fight by the Trainer's side for a few minutes before control is lost and the monster returns to the environment." Ah so THAT was how it was done. It seemed simple enough at least, all she had to do was go and try it out.
So then, what exactly should she choose for her first victim. She thought back on the slimes she had encountered earlier and grinned. They were slow, stupid and probably very easy to manipulate. They were one of the low leveled adventurers favorite targets because of all these things. So then, where to find a slime when she actually needed to. Usually they just sort of appeared out of nowhere or arrived in mass when you least wanted them to. Searching around the immediete area, she was dismayed to not find a single slime. She did however find a rabbit which bounded away from her faster then she could blink. They were speedy little buggers, perhaps later after her encounter with the slime she could try one of those instead. But for now, sadly a slime would have to do. "Come on... where are they! It's not like they are very good at hiding, they leave a trail wherever they go!" Sadly after a great deal of hunting she was still without her trophy. And she was getting more and more aggravated by the minute.
Huffing in irritation, eventually Sylvia resorted to climbing a nearby tree in search of her target. High up in the branches, she scanned the grasses, looking for absolutely anything that rustled the blades or even moved. She was tired, and her countless hours of searching only to come up empty handed, was draining her spirit. She needed to find something now or so help her she just might resort to burning down the whole forest to flush them all out. Thankfully however, it wouldn't come to that because low and behold a low leveled dull green slime inched its way toward Sylvia's tree. This was exactly what she was waiting for. A slime an actual slime! This was it! Jumping down from her tree, the overly eager girl would land directly in front of the slime, her scythe hefted onto her shoulders. And despite her most honest smile, to the slime the smile looked akin to the smiles from the most savage of homicidal maniacs. Needless to say without a seconed glance the slime started to scoot in the opposite direction.
"Hi there I'm- H-hey where are you going? I'm not done befriending you yet! GET BACK HERE!" How dare that slime, she had actually smiled and everything here. What exactly went wrong? Was it something she said? Darting out in front of the slime she whirled and flashed her smile even brighter. "I said, hi. Now. BE MY FRIEND!" And away the slime whirled once again. But who could blame it? The slime was level one and Sylvia level 11. The slime may have been ignorant of many things, but difference in power was not one of them. The slime would have needed to have had a death wish if it wanted to cross this adventurer. So it was doing it's very best to try not to aggro this strange creature and scoot away from it however possible. Sadly to the slimes dismay, the adventurer did not seem to want to leave it alone. It followed the slime wherever it slithered to, no matter if it tried to squeeze itself under the roots of a tree, or scrawl up a steep incline of rocks. The adventurer persisted and seemed to only get more forceful with its demands.
Be her friend she said, come on and fight with me she said. But truth be told the slime was very intimidated by her personality. Who on earth would want to work with that? The slime would have to be crazy, she would use it for target practice! And from the look on this adventures face, if the slime did not soon comply it might soon become target practice anyways. So regretfully the slime slowed to a halt at the face of the steep drop in front of it and and looked back at the adventure that inched closer still. The slime had become trapped on the edge of a small scale cliff face that held a great amount of jagged rocks at the bottom. Here was Sylvia's chance. "Ha. No where to run now is there. Now come on, lets be reasonable. Join me." Sylvia grinned that dark and unintentionally evil smile once more, lifting her hand up and towards the slime. Wait... what was it doing? With a strangled cry the slime fell off the side of the cliff and to the rocks bellow.
Did... did that slime just kill itself just so it didn't have to be with me? She was baffled and at the same time a little hurt. Surly it could have been an accident. Maybe the slime slipped on it's own slimy excretions and just kinda fell. Yeah that was it. It just fell, that had to be it. The slime wasn't trying to avoid her or anything, her taming level was just too low. That was all. Nothing a few more practice sessions couldn't fix. Perhaps she just startled it too much before, that was kinda her fault for jumping out of the tree like that. Yup, it was probably just an incredible misunderstanding. But oh, how she was sad for this outcome. She was going to have so much fun with that slime. Sylvia had planned to name the slime George. George the slime! And she was going to show George the world, show him the world until George died in some eventual accident that would smash his jelly body all over the ground like a grape. But oh the fun they would have had up until then. But now, now it was all for naught. With a heavy heart Sylvia crawled down the steep slope and retrieved the scant splattering of coins that exploded from the slimes corpse. "I will never forget you George. Rest in peace."
Notes: Poor George.
