Kaika Human Monk Lv. 1 | HP 100% 100% | STATUS: None |
Kaika flopped face first onto her bed, exhausted. 'It's not even noon yet! What a pain.' She rolled over and tossed the tattered remains of her Starter Cloth Armor off into the corner halfheartedly. In the seven months since the Apocalypse, she had only been out of her room for necessities: quick trips for food and water, and odd jobs to earn her stay at the inn. Because of this, she was now learning things for the first time that other Adventures had figured out a long time ago. She pulled out a small notebook with various tips written in it:
- Slimes are attracted to mana usage.
- If the boar has tusks, it will chase you for f@&%!$g ever. Can't climb trees, but also won't leave once you're up one.
- Being able to jump high doesn't mean you won't take damage when you land.
- Can't change directions in midair. Use jumps wisely.
- Slimes taste worse than sewage.
- WATCH FOR SNAKES.
- Even the rabbits are dangerous what the hell is wrong with this world?
With a heavy sigh, she added two more to the bottom of the list:
- Clothing can be torn or ruined in battle. Keep a backup set at all times.
- Starter gear sucks.
She sat up and assessed her situation. 'No spare clothes, armor is rags. Can't go fight in my underwear, so I've gotta get replacement gear. Can't go get replacement gear in my underwear either... I miss amazon.com.' Kaika glanced around her mostly barren room, looking for inspiration. '...curtains? I guess I could pin them together into a cloak of sorts, but I'd still run the risk of flashing people when I move in them.' lifted a corner of her bedsheet, inspecting it and remembering back to her homemade Halloween costumes growing up. The starter tools for a Tailor weren't much, but she could patch together a crude blouse and something roughly pants-shaped with the materials. 'Well, I guess I'm not coming back to this inn...' She carefully picked up her scissors and began to cut into the sheets...
A couple hours later, she took a step back and admired her handiwork. The outfit made her look impoverished, but it was adequate, and covered what it needed to. The curtain cloak was only slightly better. It was a boring, pale mauve, but at least it didn't look hideous. She gathered her remaining things into her inventory before leaving, and closed the door behind her. She was pretty sure she'd be banned from this inn after what she did to the bedding and curtains, but she hadn't had much of a choice, after all. She slipped out the back door, and made her way towards the marketplace.
Kaika braced herself against the outside air. The season was early Winter, and the temperature had been dropping steadily. On the bright side, Adventurers seemed to have much better natural resistance to the elements than People of the Land did. Despite the season, many Adventurers could still be seen running around in light clothing and skimpy outfits, though the majority had taken efforts to don scarves and coats in preparation for the coming chill. Today, in particular, was somewhat mild. As she made her way down to the marketplace, she couldn't help but feel jealous of all the fancy outfits and armors she saw everyone wearing. While there were still those going around in starter gear, most Adventurers had long since upgraded to bigger and better things. She made her way between shops until she reached the section selling clothing, and went for the cheapest place she could find.
The clothing stall looked sort of like the kind you would see selling band merch at a concert. It wasn't much more than a wooden counter and a backboard, with several basic items on display. Kaika picked up a nice looking set of cloth armor. It seemed like better quality than the starter gear (which wasn't saying much), and warm enough to handle the upcoming months. Kaika held the outfit up to the bored looking shop attendant.
"How much for this armor?" She felt a surge of joy at the sound of her voice. It had only recently begun to change, and she was thrilled by the way her new voice sounded, as it fit her much better than her old voice. The attendant glanced up at her.
"Uh, 200 gold I guess." Kaika checked her inventory, and frowned.
"Sorry, nevermind." She put the armor down and moved on. 'Aww man, I'm basically broke.' Kaika wandered over to the expensive part of the marketplace, and stared wistfully at the elaborate, colorful outfits in the window displays. She felt a tap on her shoulder, and turned to look at the person standing next to her.
