There is now a new plugin available on Proboards that disables post editing/deletion after a certain time duration. I have added this plugin to the forum and applied it to the character profile subforums. What does this mean for everyone?
You may now reply directly to your character app. However, after 10 minutes, you may no longer edit or delete posts you just made.
You may also update your app with provisionally approved AP or craft claims. Of course, if a mod finds a problem with your claim, you must update as necessary.
Benefits of the update:
- Member-flexible updating. New coded profile? Want to update your character's personality now that they've experienced some things in the RP? Did they change their appearance? Are you the kind that likes updating a character's history? You can now update your app as needed, whenever you'd like.
- Reduces wait time: Now you can update your app even if something's provisionally approved. Obviously you have to wait for a mod to officially add it to your app, but this helps you get things done in the event that claims are going through a slow period.
- Allows for better tracking. Every time you change something about your character or make an AP/item claim, you can reply to your thread with new details. This makes it easier for us to track if things go missing, eg: you performed a trade with another character but somewhere along the line, the item you obtained went missing from your inventory. Since we haven't used the change log very much on this RP, this is probably the next best way to keep things updated.
- Sustainability. With the normal approval process, a mod has to check claims, update a character's mini-profile with AP, then go into a character's app and add skills, items, or change information. By removing the last step and having the member update it themselves, it reduces workload on mods and allows for claims to be done quicker.
- Slightly indicates character activity. Now you can look in the subforums and tell roughly how active someone is by how recently an app was updated. Obviously not the best way to tell activity, but it's a minor indicator.
Downsides of this update:
- Clutter. Lots of posts might build up in an active character's thread.
- Potential abuse. As with all plugins, there is the possibility that it may not work properly. If there's reason to believe that there's a way to exploit this new system, the plugin can and will be disabled and offenders penalized.
- You can reply to other peoples' profiles. As with the character approval process, please don't do this. If you have an issue with a character's app, please PM the original poster or let a mod know.
See a visual guide on how this works here.
