Dumah was looking at the ring for some while and then turned around agreeing with Lucian, that the quest is over and they should go. "Understood." Unfrotunately, Adolf wasn't finished provoking Dumah, saying that if he takes the ring, he's no different from him. Dumah started defedning himself and the rest of their party. On that adolf replied with any other reasons that could be of interest to Dumah, including returning home, shamelessly bringing up defintely personal stuff that matters to Dumah... and hurts Dumah to think about it. Dumah was barely controling his rage and siply told Adolf to be quiet. Adolf did not stop and continued to reveal stuff from Dumah's past. Kuro aimed his crossbow at Adolf's head, not saying a word as the threat was clear. Although Kuro still waited for Dumah's response. After Adolf got no reaction from Dumah he added that it may not matter, as they could be dead. Dumah was already furious and barely controling himself, after another few attacks from Adolf, Kuro was almost pulling the trigger when Dumah suddenly snaped. He started beating Adolf which did not fight back. Kuro quickly aimed his crossbow at the guardian if he decided to help his leader, but to Kuro's surprise, he did not move an inch. When Dumah was done he simply told everyone to leave. Sayha suddenly told Adolf something about knowledge being power and power corupting people and that she is lookng foward to see when his power corrupts him. After that she folowed Dumah. (I think I over-reacted in her case. Any normal human would want to know what he/she is getting into. Well, what 'cha gonna do.) He was still aiming at the guardian, before the Monk got up he shot a bolt half an inch away from his hand as a warning. "Dumah may be merciful, but not everyone is." When they were walking away Sayha again spoke up, this time reacting to Kuro's explosion, that she does not have a problem talking about her "real life", 'cause she thinks that if you wouldn't talk about it, you'd froget about it, and you'd lose yourself. Kuro simply nodded. "I apologize. Your reaction was logical." When he looked at Dumah, Kuro saw that he was broken. The assassin had no idea how Dumah felt, or what did he leave behinde in the old world, but he knew that if he will not snap out of it soon, there will be some trouble. Kuro whispered to Kat: "Look after him. I don't want to loose the Dumah I know and I've never seen him like this." After this he didn't say anything else and "marked" that conversation as "finished". __________________________________________________ [Word count: 451 Tags: @dumah @shadowsaiph @bornfromvelvet Adolf Fletcher Lucian]

Seemingly in turn everyone else in the party had a chance to speak. It was only fair, and the confrontation itself seemed to lend to people having opinions over what was right, what was wrong, and there was a lot of choosing of sides as to what to do next. As any confrontation does, it came to a climax. Dumah went to leave, Adolf interrupted by making some snide comments, Dumah seemed to have a nerve hit by what he was saying and so on. Petty, like a couple of school kids bickering about something completely inconsequential. Much like the same, Adolf said one last thing and then Dumah charged in and punched the monk. Turns out that Dumah’s name was Reecendo or something, and that was a reason to be mad? If anyone were to ask, Fletcher would admit that he stopped caring and stopped paying attention to the dispute the two were having and was instead sizing up the other members of the monk’s party.
Collectively they had a good vibe going for them. They didn’t exactly seem to fit the bill of what would normally be categorised as bandits, but it was a profession rather than a fashion statement. The other thing Fletcher considered was the potential profitability of being bandits with that kind of party setup. Couldn’t they much more easily do raids and sell off the loot while getting levels at the same time? Fletcher shook his head, bringing himself back to the moment that was happening before him. It seems as though Dumah had fought himself into exhaustion with Adolf laughing at the attempt. Fletcher sighed and wondered what had possessed the Swashbuckler to try punching a monk of all classes instead of drawing steel like he was built for. Granted, Fletcher’s method would involve sic-ing a beast on the monk, but this was not his fight.
Fletcher whistled out, and Carbuncle sprang from a nearby bush, ready to fight. But the party was ready to go, looking to head back to Londinium. The dwarf called Carbuncle to his side and looked to Adolf, quirking a brow. ”Adolf. Best of luck out there. To you, and your party.” He frowned, serious and legitimate about his wishes but poising himself to show he was not intending to draw this confrontation out with further fighting. They headed back to Londinium with Fletcher bringing up the rear.

Adolf glanced at Kat, sizing her up. "I do not, do I? I seem selfish, do I? Tell me, girl: Had you a dear friend whom made a request, would you not make an attempt to fulfil their wish? Surely your party leader understands what I am trying to say." Kat made an exaggerated shrug, her face growing a cocky grin. "Probably not! Sorry, I know you were really banking on that." she said happily. Her face darkened, as her mocking expression turned sour. "But in all seriousness, it really doesn't matter to me what your reasons are. Besides, it's not exactly like you're fulfilling your "dear friend's request"; after all, you're giving us the ring." she pointed out. Adolf didn't seem to want to grace her statement with a reply however.
There was some more arguments thrown back and forth, before Adolf started to grin. "Take the ring; we will not fight for it. I take it the man who employed you lot offered a reward? Then tell me, how does that make you any different from me? You allege that I am merely doing this for money, but is that not what is motivating you all? You are, indeed, just like us then..."
Kat scoffed. Could you be any more cliché? Apparently, Dumah thought the man's words otherwise. "I am nothing like you, nor is anyone in this party..." Dumah muttered through clenched teeth.
"Oh? Then you are doing this simply because you have nothing better to do," 'Yep. Don't know about the others, but it is definitely that.' "or is it to support your guild? Perhaps you hope to amass as much gold as possible in hopes of funding some wild search for a way out? I do not blame you. I am sure you would give anything to see the two you left behind in that world."
That got a reaction. Adolf continued to speak, Dumah snarling "Be quiet!" all the while. Kat looked on at Dumah worriedly as the man angrily turned to face Adolf. Kat was even more worried when she saw Dumah rush at the Monk, angrily throwing punches at him. He was in a blind fury, eyes clouded. She'd known Dumah a decently long time, and she'd never seen him this... enraged before, despite her various attempts. This... this was something else. What did that man...?
She visibly flinched as she figured it out. "The two you left behind", "Isabelle"... 'Dumah...' she thought silently, feeling pity for the rage-induced Swashbuckler.
It took a while, but eventually Dumah was too exhausted to continue beating on the man. "We are leaving..." Dumah muttered softly, a forlorn look in his eyes as he started walking back down the trail. The other party members slowly began to follow, all saying a line to the Monk that pushed their leader this far.
"Knowledge may be power, but remember that power corrupts. When your power corrupts you, I look forward to watching you fall."
"Dumah may be merciful, but not everyone is.""Adolf, best of luck out there. To you, and your party." Kat glanced at him. That was certainly different to the others. She would have to keep an eye out for him.
Kat turned to face Adolf, putting on a smirk. "I'm taking my offer off the table." she said jokingly with barely hidden disdain. It wasn't like Kat to get emotional, but Dumah was one of Kat's first real friends in this prison people called Elder Tale. To see him so... broken, honestly it made Kat angry. "Also, I just feel like I need to add something. Adolf: You've made yourself an enemy of Noihara. Sure, it's a small guild at the moment, but it'll grow. And when it grows, well... I hope it was worth it." With that, Kat turned away and started to walk back down the path.
Kuro slowed down, letting Kat catch up to him. "Look after him. I don't want to lose the Dumah I know and I've never seen him like this." he whispered. Kat nodded. Nothing would happen to him. They'd make sure of it.

The difficulty of ignoring the provocative and misleading words of the monk that stood before him proved to be more difficult that he had hoped; the way he spoke as to confuse the party irritated Lucian rather quickly, eyes set in a dead stare while numerous profanities came to mind. The more the monk spoke the less clear everything became. The sound of Adolf's knuckles cracking rung in his ears, though he wasn't so inexperienced as to jump the gun at that point; the monk's sole attempt at fighting the party had so far had only been with his words. "I do not, do I? I seem selfish, do I? Tell me, girl: Had you a dear friend whom made a request, would you not make an attempt to fulfill their wish? Surely your party leader understands what I am trying to say." Lucian's thoughts drifted to few People of the Land back in Londinium that he had gotten to know over the past few months; the monk did have a worthy point to make among the rest of the rubbish that he spoke. Ignore him, Dumah, just forget about all of this and let's go home. For a moment his wishful thinking seemed like a possibility, Dumah had turned his back to the monk and begun walking away; Lucian stepped back along with him, his hand finally able to let go of his sword. It didn't stop though, Adolf continued to slip the Swashbuckler vexing taunts, having little success until he brought up Dumah's past again. "Come now, tell me what is wrong... Have I struck a nerve..." Adolf spoke with a sadistic grin, emphasizing each syllable, "...Ree-cen-do?" Dumah's about-face and charge at the monk caught Lucian off guard, a one-sided brawl between the leaders breaking out before he had the chance to stop it. It seemed best to stay out of this conflict seeing as how it was more personal than quest related, that and the fact that Adolf's party seemed to be sitting on the sidelines as well. It was more a spectacle to watch now; Lucian had never been fond of rage and its lack of grace, and watching it take over someone made his heart sink. Dumah...Lucian walked behind Dumah as the party started to leave the forest, his worry growing as their leader distanced himself from the world. Hopefully they could get past this; maybe completing the quest would make him feel better. "And for the record, I will gladly talk about my past before the game. Whether you want it to or not, it is a part of us now even though we’re in this game. Don’t forget that or you’ll lose yourself." A soft response was given by the Samurai. ... ... ... The Swashbuckler walked a bit ahead of his party as they returned to Londinium. Immediately, he led the party to the market square, where they found a Person of The Land merchant selling all manner of goods. "Come one, come all! Be you Adventurer or Person of The Land, I am sure to have something for you!" He smiled wide and rubbed his hands together as he noticed the approaching party. "Ah, Mr. Iino! So good to see you again! Please tell me, do you have my ring?" Dumah nodded, and the happy merchant's grin grew wider in satisfaction "Splendid! Now then if you would just hand it-" Dumah pocketed the ring away, and the smile upon the merchant's face faltered for but a moment. "Erm, S-Sir Dumah, y-you've retrieved my ring, your quest is over! So uh, how about you give it to me and I can pay you your reward...!"
Dumah gave the man a somewhat dead gaze as he began to speak in a very serious tone. "First, I wish to know... Where did you get this ring to begin with?"
The merchant's grin began to waver more as he tried to get his ring back from Dumah. "I-I'm sorry...?"
"I will only ask you this once: Where did you get the ring?"
"Huh? Wh-What would you need to know that for...?"
"My reason does not matter, now answer my question."
The merchant was clearly growing tired of Dumah's refusal to hand over the ring. "And what if I refuse to answer? What difference does it make?"
"None to you, but all the difference to me. Now, if you do not answer me, I will keep the ring," this threat seemed to get a worried reaction out of the merchant, "I am sure such a thing would sell for a much larger sum of gold than the three hundred you offered me to retrieve it."
The merchant had quickly changed from joy to anger to fear to desperation. "W-Wait! L-Let's not be hasty now...!"
"Where did you get this ring?"
"I-I had an Adventurer craft it for me!"
"What was the crafter's name?"
The merchant shot answers out immediately as Dumah stopped talking. "Adolf! I met him in the Windsor Great Wood!"
"So this Adolf fellow, he is a blacksmith?"
"Yes, yes! And quite a good one, too!"
Dumah turned around, as if ready to walk away. "I know Adolf; he is a Mechanic, not a blacksmith." Dumah took one step and the merchant grabbed his shoulder desperately.
"W-Wait!! I- I'll double your reward! No, I'll triple it! Nine hundred gold in exchange for my ring!"
((Again, it's up to you guys. Give him the ring for 900G split evenly, or let Dumah return the ring to Adolf.))

As the party made their way back to Londinium, Kuro had apologized for misjudging her and Lucian said that it wasn’t the right time. Sayha scoffed at Lucian’s comment but chose to say nothing. She just wanted the quest to be done so that she would be able to relieve herself from the party. Altogether it wasn’t bad, but there was too much information being withheld from her. She, for a lack of a better wording, didn’t trust the party leader. However, she knew better at that point that pointing out any flaws would just lead to backlash. Plus, the leader was already withdrawn. She had backed him before in front of the monk, but that was mostly because she disliked the monk more. She did mean every word she had said to him, looking forward to him falling. However, usually it was her herself pulling arrogant people off their platform. Unfortunately, she was in no position to do so… at least not yet. When the party reached Londinium, Dumah lead them to the Market Center, which was of no surprise. The monk must have been right about a few things, even if she didn’t want to admit that. Once they were in the Center, Dumah went to one of the merchants. He and the merchants talked. The monk must have gotten under Dumah’s skin because he had questioned where the ring had come from. The merchant had lied straight up to them… which Sayha felt like there was a lot of that going around. Dumah didn’t reply right away after the merchant upped the bounty of the ring to 900. Sayha guessed he was waiting to see what the rest of the party would say.
As much as she did want the quest to be over, they did have the choice of giving the ring to the merchant and going back to Adolf. Sayha though back to what the monk had said. Again, he had been right. Sayha thought back to her old martial arts lessons. Honor before all else. The words of her sifu echoed in her head. How had she forgotten that.
“I really don’t think it’s your ring, merchant,” Sayha said, looking at the merchant directly in the eyes, “You wouldn’t be so up about it if it actually was. Plus, you wouldn’t be lying which you just did.” Sayha turned to Dumah, “As much as I dislike the monk, he was right. You should track down the person who gave the monk the quest and give it to her, the rightful owner. No need to give it to some lowlife.”

When Kat assured him that she'd tak care of Dumah, he was relieved, although he did not show it anyhow. He looked at their group and re-valued their "atributes". (I don't know what to think about Sayha. She thinks logicaly, but is kinda of an ass. Fletcher is the realist, he is not living this in the way I am. Lucian seems to understand what Dumah is going through and is behaving acording to the situation. I think I like him the most of of the three Kat is also concerned about Dumah as much as I am. Dumah... is a mess right now..)___________ When they arrived in London Dumah took them straight to the quest-giver. He seemed to be happy to see Dumah, but that was over quick as Dumah started questioniong him about the origins about the ring. Dumah shot out questions so quickly that Kuro was surprised that the merchant is able to answer them in time, especialy counting that these answers were obviously lies. When it came out the Merchant quickly raised their reward from 300G to 900G. That got rised Kuro's eybrows, but only for a moment. "Money isn't what's important." Dumah stayed silent and looked at the group, implying that he is waiting for their opinions. Sayha was first to speak. She pointed out the obivous, saying that the ring does not belong to him and if it did, he wouldn't have to lie. She then sugested that the group should seek out the original owner. Kuro agreed with that statement. "I have to agree with Sayha. Although when... and if, we find the original owner, I think we shouldn't ask for reward." He looked at the rest of the group. "We were not given the quest, it is simply an act of kindness." He looked at Dumah "Also if we did want reward, we'd be no different if not even worse then Adolf." He then looked at the merchant. "But I would also like to hear a promise from this guy, that he will not sell and/or buy anything stolen or without certain origins." He then frowned at him. "If not my crossbow will have a short chat with him, using bolts instead of words." Kuro didn't mean the threat... for the most part. He just wanted to make sure that the merchant won't break his promise. __________________________________________________ [Word count: 395 Tags: @dumah (Dumah) | @shadowsaiph (Sayha) | @bornfromvelvet (Kat) | Adolf (Adolf) | Fletcher (Fletcher) | Lucian (Lucian) ]

Soon enough the wood became a dirt path, and then that dirt path became cobblestone as they entered Londinium. The town itself was as normal as he could remember, people going about their business without a care in the world. Fletcher wished that he too could’ve been part of this carefree enjoyment of the day, and possibly could’ve gotten some of his own things done. Instead, he’d been dragged out into the woods, on the premise that they were hunting a group of bandits. Instead, this group of bandits had been someone that as far as Fletcher could tell, Dumah had some form of history with. Not the best history from what he gathered from what could only be described as childish behaviour from the pair of them. Adolf knew how to push Dumah’s buttons, but Dumah was a fool for buying into the nonsense the monk was spouting.
Fletcher spent the majority if not the entirety of the walk back to Londinium in silence, a stern expression on his face. Even when they entered familiar territory, and then onwards to the market, Fletcher was just ready for whatever clichéd interaction that was about to unfold. What it all boiled down to was the legitimacy of the merchant’s claim over the ring. It was bogus, of course it was, it wouldn’t be a good story if it was all neatly wrapped up so soon. Fletcher rubbed the bridge of his nose as the confrontation went down, listening to the drivel that the merchant was spouting as much as he wanted to duck into the store just across the way and pop back when they were headed somewhere else. Sayha spoke up first, saying what most of them were probably thinking. The ring obviously wasn’t the merchant’s, at least not originally. If he had bought it, being it stolen goods or otherwise made things less clean-cut than the party would undoubtedly make it seem. It was just another choice based on morality.
Sayha suggested returning it to whom Adolf intended to return it to. Then Kuro talked about agreeing with Sayha, which made sense, although what followed made less. With a sigh, Fletcher frowned at Kuro, speaking as a father would, arms crossed. ”I agree with Sayha too, mostly. But you listen here, kiddo. You do not get to threaten people under some assumption that I’m sure more than just some of us have made.” Fletcher’s eyes flicked to the merchant briefly before returning to Kuro. ”Let’s think about this; the merchant hired Dumah to get the ring. Adolf was hired by the supposed owner of the ring. Unless the merchant hired Adolf as well, how did he know of Adolf in the first place as the one with the ring? I’ll admit I’m hazy on the facts, but there’s still a possibility that the merchant, while shifty as all hell, could be completely legitimate.” Fletcher shrugged, throwing his hands up. If it came to a one on one fight then Kuro would probably win, against either the summoner or merchant, or perhaps both at once. But this child was just grating on him with some of the things he came out with; it was just unfortunate that he was the one that had the loudest mouth of the group.

Eerily calm, Dumah strutted forward towards a Person of a Land. The shopkeeper and apparent questgiver smiled as he spotted the Swashbuckler. "Ah, Mr. Iino! So good to see you again! Please tell me, do you have my ring?" Dumah nodded as he grabbed the ring from his pocket, raising it out for the shopkeeper to see. His smile widened. "Splendid! Now if you would just hand it-" Dumah pocketed the ring, and the merchant's smile faltered. Very seriously, Dumah started to question where the man obtained the ring. Adolf must've gotten him thinking. Kat sighed as the shopkeep started to splutter out a very obvious lie. 'So, Adolf was at least partially telling the truth...' she thought as she saw the shopkeeper start to panic, quickly shouting out that he'd triple his reward. Kat scoffed. "900 gold? Really? Forgive me if I think that's a crap deal." she muttered. Kuro seemed to agree, abit for a different reason, stating that the money wasn't the important thing.
Dumah turned to face the group, giving them a chance to speak. Sayha stated what pretty much everyone agreed on: The merchant was lying. She suggested returning the ring to Adolf, an idea that Kuro agreed with. And for some odd reason, Kuro decided to threaten the guy. Nope, she didn't know why either.
Apparently, Fletcher, who seemed to be the sole voice of reason in this group, spoke up. "I agree with Sayha too, mostly." he said, before turning to Kuro. "But you listen here, kiddo. You do not get to threaten people under some assumption that I'm sure more than just some of us have made." Well, that was one thing they agreed on, anyway. Fletcher went on to say that there was a chance that the merchant was legitimate and-
Wait, what? Seriously? He believed this guy?
Kat shook her head. "I really, really doubt that this guy is legit. There's no way in hell that he is. Shifty personality aside, he lied about how he obtained the ring. Sure, there's a chance that maybe Adolf lied about his subclass, and the merchant believed him, but he didn't just say that Adolf was a blacksmith, did he? He flat out stated that he had Adolf craft it for him. Sure, there's a very, very small chance that maybe Adolf stole a ring and then said he crafted it, but I'm pretty sure that the chances of that scenario actually happening are close to none. I can say with almost certainty that he didn't come across this ring though legitimate means." Kat paused. "That said however, I also doubt that Adolf was telling the truth either, however I can only base that assumption on what I've seen of his personality. In my eyes, we have to options; we go with what Sayha suggested, and give the ring to the, in my opinion anyway, untrustworthy bandit, or we just straight-up sell it. Personally, I'm fine with either option. I only care that this merchant doesn't get it." Stopping, she looked up at Dumah. "This, well, this seems to be a very personal thing to you. What we do today is your call." [Word Count: 530 Tags: @dumah @shadowsaiph @kurosan Fletcher Lucian Notes: Apologies for the wait, assignments really take up a lot of time. *le sigh*]

Dumah was silent, offering his party the opportunity to speak and discuss their opinion on the matter. Dumah had already made up his own mind: He did not wish to relinquish the ring to the merchant who had given him this quest, nor did he trust the man. The vote was unanimous.
Sayha was the first to voice her opinion, claiming that she doubted the merchant's true ownership of the ring. She stated that he wouldn't be in such a fuss if it truly did belong to him, and he would not be lying about the matter like he had been. It made Dumah happy to see that she had her own honor and could not just simply be bought out for a sum of gold. She turned to Dumah, stating that she believes the party should return the ring, though not to Adolf whom they had taken it from, but to the girl Adolf spoke of.
After Sayha's opinion came Kuro. He agreed with Sayha's statements, proposing that when - and if - the party found the original owner, they should not demand a reward of any sort. Such an answer was what Dumah had expected from Kuro - he had known the Assassin since their days of being lowly level one noobs, fresh meat in the wake of the Apocalypse. Kuro had proven himself a good man, and Dumah respected him for it. However, the Assassin had threatened the Merchant, a rash move Dumah did not appreciate. While he no longer respected the merchant, he did not wish to see anyone acting against the People of The Land in such a manner.
The next to speak was the dwarf, Fletcher. Once again, he agreed with the growing belief that the merchant had tried to use them for his own profits, though after this he began to scold Kuro, stating it is wrong to threaten people under little more than an assumption. The Summoner went on to lecture Kuro about threatening people, and Dumah agreed.
The last to speak was Katarina. She was rather verbose and to the point in her opinion, believing the merchant to be a fraud, stating there was 'no way in hell' that he was telling the truth. Katarina was one of many in the party who had the idea that both parties - the merchant and Adolf - had been lying.
Lucian remained silent, and refused to give an answer. Perhaps he had faith in Dumah, believing that as the Party Leader, it is his choice in the end.
Dumah began to walk away, his right hand in his right pocket, clenching the ring tightly. "Thank you, everyone, for everything you have done, and I apologize that this adventure was completely without any reward. If any of you ever need anything, I will do what I can to assist you. All you need to do is find me or call for me." With that, Dumah tapped at the air, opening his user interface and accessing the party menu, tapping at a few more buttons and prompts, disbanding the party. "I shall return this ring on my own." With that, Dumah walked away from the merchant, the party, everything. He headed towards the city gate, leaving the town and heading back to the Windsor Greatwood.
Music: Re_ All All Apologies
All alone now, Dumah trekked through the thick foliage of the Windsor Greatwood, the dim shining of the moonlight from above breaking through the thick blanket of leaves and branches. As the shadows cast by the trees made it near impossible to see where Dumah was walking, he used his Fireball Pitch skill, holding the ball of flame in his right hand, its warm illumination helping Dumah's sight slightly. His mind could not stop wandering back to thoughts about the ring. 'I am a benefactor, I fight for the people. I am righteous.' Though as he looked to his pocket bearing the ring, for once he felt doubt. Such thoughts of having made such an immoral choice clouded his mind, and as he approached the camp Adolf and his party had been at, the Swashbuckler stopped for a moment and sat against a tree, allowing himself a moment to clear his thoughts.
After some time, he stood again, walking into the camp, confronting the men who had seemingly been awaiting his return.
"I see you came alone this time, Reecendo," Adolf stated. "Have you come to fight us, or have you come to your senses?"
Without speaking a word, a solemn expression on his face, Dumah retrieved the ring from his pocket, walking to the silver haired Monk and handing it to him. Both men held onto the ring, staring into each others' eyes with a surprisingly calm rivalry. The two were silent for a moment... "I do not like you, Adolf."
The Monk nodded solemnly, speaking in reply. "Nor do I like you, Reecendo."
"You antagonize me, attack those I care about, and act out of greed."
"You lie to yourself and those around you, you do not understand there is no black and white in morality, and you act out of fear."
After some time, Dumah let go, watching Adolf pocket the ring, neither man looking away from each other until Dumah turned around to leave, once again taking the long, dark, rainy trip to the city of Londinium.
In the back of his mind remained the lingering thought Dumah feared: Doubt. ((THIS THREAD IS OVER, END OF STORY, NO DISCUSSION. THA-THA-TH-THA-THAT'S ALL, FOLKS!!))
