If there was thing that Capsule prized the most, it was her privacy. She disliked being caught out in large crowds, and hated it even more when people loomed over her shoulder while she was attempting to work. It was why she chose to keep to herself on most occasions. Right now, she was out and about in the Windsor Greatwood, in what she thought was a largely unpopulated area. Bosco was accompanying her, like always. The young dog was happily frolicking through the lush grassland, snapping at the last butterflies of the summer. Capsule hoped he enjoyed it while it lasted. Soon, autumn and winter would follow, the latter being the roughest time of the year.
Capsule rather enjoyed winter, despite the frigidity of the environment. The masses had a tendency of holing themselves up during the colder months, either huddling up for warmth or hibernating like a bear. It would suck for the homeless Landers and Adventurers when all the inns were full, but Capsule speculated that more than half of the guild-less Adventurers would take advantage of the recruiters. What guild worth its merit did not have a guild home?
She smiled bitterly as she remembered the guild home owned by Avarice. It was scarcely used these days, as she had her own homes, and there were very few members who did… if at all. Capsule wondered if it was even worth keeping anymore. Should she sell it? Or continue to keep the castle, in hopes of the others returning? The whole thing seemed so damn pointless. If things continued to go the way they were going, she might be forced to join another guild! Her stomach sank at the thought. But she had made a promise to keep things going -- a promise she was actually not too capable of keeping. She never actively sought out new recruits, so what was the point?
As for joining another guild, Capsule was just as uncertain. Socializing was not her forte, and most of the guilds she had known before disappearing had fallen into disuse. So what was the point of leaving a dead guild to join one that was destined to fail? 'It means you would never be alone again.' There was also the prospect of guild bonuses.
The woman came to a stop, hand stroking her chin in quiet contemplation. Two new guilds had recently been formed -- Halcyon and Noihara. She knew of both of the guild owners. The owner of Halcyon was an old friend of hers: Oxford, the Guardian. It was surprising to learn that the man had not reached level ninety yet, like some of her former friends. She had no idea what he had been up to these past months, however. As for the owner of Noihara, Capsule knew he was a member of the expedition that went north in search of Scotland. He was under level thirty, as she recalled. As for their guilds, Halcyon seemed like the only respectable one. Noihara advertised itself as a family guild, and offered nothing else but exploration. That was a very lame concept. Halcyon was clearly the better choice among the two.
Or perhaps she should wait for something better to come along? She had considered making her own guild, as well, but that was not a great idea; Avarice was evidence of that. And if she did start her own guild, what would it be? Definitely not something similar to the others. Too many guilds shared the same goal, to the point that Capsule could not understand their point of not forming one large guild. It seemed like everyone wanted to be the guild master…
Capsule narrowed her eyes into thin slits, her head now leaning back against the broad side of a large tree. The life of a lone wolf called out to her more than anything. In a guild, she would be subject to the eccentric demands of her leader. Like making potions cheap or free for guild mates… disgusting. Or worse yet -- having to add more than her fair share to the guild funds. There was no denying that she had a lot of money, or was downright rich, if you were being honest. Extensive crafting was the cause of that, and the last thing she wanted or needed was to be used for her money.
From somewhere up above, a leaf drifted down and landed on her forehead. Capsule opened her eyes slightly. It was not time for the leafs to fall. Was something disturbing them? Or was it just her imagination? Content to think it was just the latter, Capsule started to close her eyes again, only to open them fully. There was a hairy knuckle dangling not too far above her head. Thick, white hair clung to the back of the hand, the palm of which was a pinkish color. '…What the hell?'
Her gaze traveled up the hairy hand to an even hairier arm… no, that was not hair. It was far too thick to be growing on something like a limb. Was that fur? Capsule blinked up at the hairy arm. The body it belonged to was hidden beyond a clump of leafs. Curious, Capsule prodded the area above her with her staff. A soft grunt and a disturbance of the leafs was her response. For some reason, it sounded like a monkey, but she had never seen one of those here before.
Capsule prodded the thing more and more, until it got annoyed enough to move. Based on the shadow that shone through the leafs, it was large. And strong! It grabbed at her staff, and she had to fight hard to keep it from taking it. The monkey shrieked, sending a cascade of leafs down onto the Enchantress as it violently shook the branch it was perched upon. With one hard tug, Capsule yanked her staff free, and was sent flying back onto the ground. Facing the ground, her arms wrapped around her staff, and her chest heaving for oxygen and from adrenaline, Capsule stared in horror up at the beast.
It was truly a monkey. The presence of a white furred tail confirmed that. But it was roughly the size of a gorilla, and its head… There was a giant afro jutting from its head, and in that afro was an assortment of fruit. Capsule stared at the monkey, floored by this outrageous hairstyle. A monkey with an afro, decorated with fruit… what was this madness? And from whence had this creature came? There was nothing about this monkey in the official bestiary, nor had she read about any sightings of a dreaded fro monkey. And yet, here it was -- snarling at her.
