"Well there isn't anything really proactive we can do about player killings other than not be player killers ourselves. Any proactive fighting we take to people that might do it would then make us the instigators. The fact is that Player Killing is probably going to happen. Especially because we just respawn. There will be people that think that makes it fine, or it's not a big deal. And it might not be. I'm not a fan of it, but we can't really prevent it on our own. We are two players. And anyone who is really serious about player killing will be much higher than us. Though the fact that this is a new server does make that a bit harder to achieve. We all started with a blank slate. So if we want to be able to handle this then we need to get a jump on our leveling."
It was only by getting stronger would they be able to protect themselves and others. But they needed to be able to protect themselves first or they would be nothing but a burden. Not that they had to do it alone, it was still a group game with team dynamics. And finding allies and making friends was all part of getting stronger. They had made their first steps toward that goal today. It was weird, he had a goal now. A goal other than just getting money for housing, which while something he still wanted to do wasn't the most important thing. This was a strange and possibly dangerous world and he had chosen to be a Guardian. He had a chance to actually live up to that role now. Protecting those that are weaker than him against those that would do them harm for their own gain or amusement. To say nothing of any non player threats that were out in the world.
Champions of Justice. Who would have thought?
"Sweet. You can be my animal companion." He teased.
He smiled at Kaizer when he accepted the friend request, his first friend in this new world. Shooting him a thumbs up as he closed the menu with a swipe of his hand. Something that still tripped him out. That they had a virtual overlay that they could control like that while living in a fantasy setting. This whole place was just a weird mixture of game and fantasy and reality. It was
It seemed that his new friend was still in a somber mood judging by the tone of his voice. Asking about quests and quest characters. He opened his mouth to tell him that of course he had seen quests, that was a staple in this genre. But before he could speak he realized that he had not in fact seen a single person give or receive a quest since the Apocalypse. That couldn't be right though.
"You know what. Now that you mention it I don't think I have. That's weird. I thought the game was pretty well known for some of it's long quest chains. I mean it has like twenty expansions so there should be quests everywhere.... Huh. That's really weird."
And he had no idea why that was. And the likelihood of finding out about it standing here were pretty small. The information wasn't likely to just drop out of the sky and land in their laps. And truth be told it wasn't the highest priority to him right now. Though he would be lying if he said that he wasn't curious about it since it had been brought up though. He supposed that he had some more digging to do, though he wasn't really sure where to dig for that kind of information. This was new to everyone. But still, maybe someone else had stumbled on to an explanation somewhere. Or maybe they even found a quest!
"I don't really have an answer beyond that though. Tell ya what, I'll keep my eyes and ears open and if I find out anything I'll give you a ring? But in the mean time I could use a bath and some nice salted cardboard."
He winked and proceeded into the town.
"We'll figure it out man. Just take care of yourself. And give me a call if you need me! But I got a date with my inn room."
He called back over his shoulder. The mysteries of the new world could wait for a few. Because he just needed to unwind after that. And see if they could bruise in this world too. He was worried that the answer to that question might just be a yes. But it just couldn't be helped he supposed.
