It was early in the morning when Sayha decided to continue her “Halloween Hunt.” She had just finished her hunting with Hiro a day or so ago which had taken the two up to an abandoned castle all the way up in Avon Valley. It had been a fun adventure. At that moment though, Sayha didn’t plan on going all that way. She planned to stay close to home, only hunting in the Windsor Greatwood even though she was decently higher-leveled than the monsters around. Briefly, Sayha checked her status screen. She was level 28 in her main class while her two subclasses were a bit lower: Scribe at level 4 and Tracker at level 13. She had been slacking on her Scribe a bit, but she had plans to get that going soon. At that moment though, scribing was not on her mind.
Sayha made her way from Buckingham Palace which was the Guild House for her guild, Aprocrypha, through Londinium. Thanks to her new armor and jacket, she was able to pass through town without drawing much attention to herself. Black on black seemed to be a perfect reverse magnet. Though while she was in town, she briefly walked through the market area to see if there was anything of note worth buying. At that point though, she didn’t find anything.
Once she made it out of the city, she pushed the sides of her jacket aside so that her katanas were visible and more easily accessible. She decided to keep them hidden while in city underneath the jacket was good. Then again, she didn’t like the idea of wearing them on her back or wearing the belt outside of the jacket. She never could quite unsheathe swords from her back well, and the belt over jacket sounded awkward.
Sayha took in a deep breath, taking in the fresh air. She was ready to have some fun.

"Next time, let's not go alone, agreed?" Dorian's voice was disgruntled as he returned to the road to the Greatwood, looking out over it in a glance filled with trepidation. He had just returned from his journey to the valley yesterday, having walked the road out to the area to hunt down some of the new Halloween monsters that had sprouted about over the various combat zones. Though it seemed easy enough at first, the new event managed to catch the Shaman off guard; when he had arrived at the Greatwood, the air itself had been affected by the monstrous creatures that had newly spawned in it. He only encountered a few Mini Jacks, and even they seemed to taint the spiritual energy of the place with their presence, the land becoming dark as he approached. And so he had promised himself - as well as Skrowe - that he would be careful next time, and perhaps work on taking someone with him this time. Perhaps someone a few levels higher than him so he could take on the more aggressive creatures; after all, as a spiritual class, it was a Shaman's duty to cleanse an area of it's impurities. Having dusted himself off and readied for action, he began the march out from Londinium; he should have been in Sarum by now, but his experience at the Greatwood yesterday was too troublesome, and the discovery he made there could not be left unchecked. The fresh, clean air of the outside filled his lungs as he began the journey, causing him to take a brief moment to collect himself. After all, the air was going to get a lot worse once he entered the valley. Sucks to be sensitive to spiritual energy, huh? Shaking his head, Dorian ignored the annoyance of Skrowe, trudging on along the road. He had heard of other adventurers taking on the charge to slay some of the foul beasts that had emerged thanks to the Halloween event, and so he hoped beyond hope that he would stumble upon one such person along the road, someone who would understand his worry for the forests inhabitants. Luckily, he managed to stumble upon a familiar face. Only a few short moments after leaving the city, Dorian spotted a particular elven assassin taking the same road he was, just a ways ahead of him. From what he remembered of her from the dungeon they had cleared some time ago, he nodded his head, glad to know he wasn't the only one taking on the Halloween menace. "Sayha!" He called out just loud enough to grab her attention, preferring not to shout most of the time; jogging to catch up to her, he gave her a soft smile and a bow of his head in greeting. "Fancy seeing you here," he mused, slowing to walk in pace alongside her down the road. "Are you headed to the Greatwood too? I just got back from there, yesterday; it seems like these new Halloween monsters are affecting the area rather nastily." He looked forward with a solemn glance, before turning back to give the elf a beaming grin. "So, how's about we go kill a few?"

Just as she was about to set out, Sayha heard her name being called. She turned around to see a familiar person. It was Dorian, a Shaman that Sayha was in a party with when she went through Londinium Underground to help Dumah clear the tunnels for the train workers. It was only a brief time they had partied together so she didn’t really feel opinionated on him. When Dorian walked over to her, he asked if she was headed into the Greatwood. He explained that he had just gotten back from the woods the day before and that it seemed like the Halloween Monsters had been affecting the area not in a good way. Sayha didn’t disagree with the thought, but she didn’t quite agree either. At that point in time, she did notice less and less Greatwood beasts around, but it was to be expected. Events had more pull than regular happenings. It wasn’t necessarily a bad thing.
What slightly confused her was Dorian asking if the two of them go kill some. She had only been partied with him briefly so she didn’t really know if she wanted to party. Though he was still level 1 and he probably would get pretty tired after only a few fights. It wouldn’t hurt to help him.
“Fine,” Sayha nodded, quickly sending Dorian a party invite so she could keep an eye on him, “Since I’m a higher level, I’ll be able to draw their agro easily. I’ll hit them with basic attacks and you can go in for the main attacks. It will give you some good practice at sword fighting. And since you’ll be sword fighting, don’t be surprised if I start to comment on your fighting style.”
Once Dorian accepted the party invite, she motioned for him to follow behind, “Since it’s only the two of us, there’s no need to have you be Operator and Field Monitor. Just keep an eye on yourself and don’t get killed.”

Dorian blinked in surprise at the sudden appearance of a party invite on his interface, swiftly accepting it; he hadn't expected her to accept it so quickly, given how low level he was. Listening to her intently, he nodded along slowly to her words, a soft smile curling along his lips. He had remembered from the dungeon how commanding the Assassin had been; despite the fact that Dumah had made and organised the party, when the action broke out, Sayha was the first to call the shots. Dorian admired her drive, glad to have someone beside him during the fight that wasn't afraid to take charge. The world needed more adventurers like her. Bowing his head in reply to her words, he beamed a wide grin as he looked forward over the road. "Sounds like a plan, I've got a few tricks up my sleeve if we get into any tight spots, but it shouldn't get too bad out there." He patted the hilt of his katana, still tightly strapped to his back inside of it's sheath, the leather wrapping around his torso snugly. The Shaman gave a sigh of relief when she explained the fact there was no need for an Operator, and/or a Field Monitor. As much as he had enjoyed working those roles in the dungeon, right now all he wanted was to get down to it and help out as much as possible with the hunt. "Just the two of us; you got it. I'll make sure these things stay dead." With that, Dorian gestured forward with his hand, as if beckoning toward the forest. "Let's be off then!" As they continued to walk along the main road, getting closer and closer to the Greatwood, the Shaman made quick glances to the elf, a worried look on his face. "Have you... fought any of these things before? As I said, I just got back from a journey to the valley..." He looked down at his feet, watching them step forward one after the other naturally. "I don't know about other places, but these Halloween monsters are doing something to the forest. Maybe it's just spirit sense a-tingling, but something just feels... dark, about the place. Even during the day."

Listened to Dorian as he talked to her. He asked if Sayha had seen the monsters before. He explained that he felt some sort of sense that was dark even during the day. She turned, glancing at him briefly before looking ahead again. He was a Shaman so she wasn’t familiar with the Shaman abilities. However, it did make her think back to her visit to Moon Dance Forest. “I have faced the monsters here before,” Sayha finally said, “Actually, I’ve fought them starting here and all the way up north to Avon Valley. I wasn’t alone of course; I was with a friend of mine. We didn’t sense anything out of the ordinary, or at least I didn’t. Hiro might have but if he did, he didn’t mention it to me. They seemed like ordinary monsters to me. I’ve played other video games before, and they all had Halloween inspired events so this kind of thing isn’t that surprising.” Sayha shrugged.
Sayha briefly thought back to the Shaman she had encountered before. It was back when she was doing the Celestial Arm quest with Hiro. The two of them had traveled back into the past of a place called Lonsdale, and she had found out that the city was called Lune. The Shaman, named Sage, had been a healing-type in cloth armor with a staff, using barriers to protect her allies. Dorian didn’t appear to be that type of Shaman, but he could change his mind if he so chose. Of course, that didn’t matter at that point in time.
“So just as a heads up,” Sayha responded, “I can one-shot most of the monsters here… though that’s only most. Last time I was here, a nice monster higher than I was appeared so keep your eyes open. If we run into a monster five levels higher than me, we run. And we run hard. I don’t think that will happen again, but you never know… Though since I can one-shot most things here, you’re going to attack first with me backing you up. If you so choose, I can say out of combat until I see you’re in a pinch. That way, I can comment on your fighting style more.”
Out of the corner of her eye, Sayha saw movement. She stopped and turned to see what it was. She saw three Mini Jacks, all level 2. Sayha drew her blades and motioned towards the Jacks with her left one.
“So let me know your decision. I can power level you, but I don’t see that as actually being beneficial to you,” Sayha said, “but that decision is yours.”

Feeling a frown droop down upon his features, he turned his head too look out over the distance, releasing a soft sigh under his breath. As a Shaman, Dorian was naturally attuned to the spiritual plane, and within that, certain patterns and thoughts and feelings could be sensed through the tension and pull on the air itself. At level 1, it was very difficult for Dorian to grasp any particular information from the sensations he had, but he had clearly picked out the dark nature of the forest yesterday. Even now, as they entered the first vestiges of trees and the like, he could sense the terror growing in the wind; whatever this Halloween event was, the Shaman had a feeling it was having more of an impact on the landscape than it should. "Hm, well, maybe it's just me then," he mused finally, turning back with a faux smile on his face. There was no sense trying to explain something like this to Sayha, not with a mission ahead of them as important as this. Best to just kill as many monsters as he could, and hope for the best. For now, he'd leave it to the higher ups to deal with the hunt's ramifications. Dorian continued to listen as the Assassin explained the plan of attack, by now the forest had completely engulfed them, the Shaman shrugging of the ill feeling that soon returned. "Got it; 5 levels or more, run like hell. For now, I'm sure we'll manage just fine... As for the rest, it'd probably be better to keep you back for now. You'll be the secret weapon!" He gave a soft chuckle as he said this, hoping to lighten the mood a bit with some ill-placed humour. Skrowe was beginning to affect him more than he would like. Just as he had finished replying, Dorian sensed a change in the area around him, his eyes following the Assassin's focused glare to spot the three Jacks, all of them an extra level above him. "Well, it's as good a time as any, I suppose."Swiftly drawing his katana from his back, he gave it a fanciful swirl on his side, trying to play himself up a bit as he began sidestepping away from the Assassin. "They're curious creatures, so try and make yourself look interesting to grab their attention for just a few moments," he beckoned softly, holding his weapon out in one hand. He spluttered under his breath as he realised what he had just said, quickly correcting himself. "Not that you're not interesting, I just mean... Uh... Yeah..." He gave himself a mental slap on the forehead, hearing the irritating snickers of Skrowe in the back of his mind as he focused his attention back on the Mini Jacks. After her initial comment, Dorian figured that it was just him that felt the dark presence. She doubted it but chose not to say anything. She had a good feeling if people who trained in Moon Dance Forest focused on the forest, they would probably be able to sense it, but that was a story for another time. Dorian repeated what she had said about any monsters being over five levels from her level. He agreed that she would be used as a last resort, but he said it in an odd way that she had given him a sideways glance. As Dorian drew his own katana, he began to sidestep away from her. He said to draw their attention to make them interested in her… the then proceed to babble that she wasn’t interesting or something like that. She turned to him, trying to decide if she wanted to slug him before or after the fight. Sighing, she decided to go after.
“Keep your knees bent slight,” Sayha barked, “If they hit you head on with your legs straight, you’d fall over. You need to find your center of gravity and stay in that position until you attack… and even when advancing. Get ready.”
When attracting the attention of the Mini Jacks, Sayha didn’t really need to do anything special. All she did was begin to walk towards them. She kept her swords by her sides, but she passively twirled them around her hands. Her movement caught the attention of the Jacks, and they began to move towards her cautiously.
At that point, Sayha sheathed her weapons. She remembered that she got the mastery for Unarmed Combat so her hand-to-hand combat actually did damage. She motioned for Dorian to attack as she stood there.

Dorian kept his ears open, so to speak, listening carefully to his mentor's words; he had learned not to look a gift horse in the mouth, especially not at his low level. Nodding slowly, he accepted her advice, letting his knees bend slightly to accommodate his body, and balance himself sturdily. With one arm outstretched, holding his katana in an an extended form, he lunged forward at the backs of the Mini Jacks. These one's were a bit stronger than the several he had fought yesterday, which meant he'd need a bit more oomph to get them down, but he had plenty of oomph raring to go. Backstab! Backstab! Backstab! Ignoring the obvious plea from his own mind, he made three successive strikes, utilising rather lacklustre distraction Sayha implemented for them. First, he flowed through a jab at the middle Jack, piercing it's back slightly with the sharpened tip of his katana. Keeping the motion fluid, he spun to the right, swirling his blade around his body and skipping himself up off the ground to bring a strong slash down on the right most pumpkin, his blade slicing through completely, but not killing it just yet. Finally, for his third attack, he sidestepped in a streak of speed towards the leftmost floating vegetable, bringing his blade up in a diagonal slash through the air, cracking the blade against the hard exterior of the Mini Jack. His blade was still a starter katana, so it wasn't able to break through the defence for now. Spinning back to ready for the next move, he held his katana up, keeping concentration so that he could dodge their flame attack or parry their slam attack; versatility and variety, that was the key. Sayha watched Dorian as he started to blade dance. It was definitely rough and unpracticed. She guessed he had never wielded a sword on the other side. He didn’t seem to have any attacking skills which would explain why he didn’t use any. After Dorian did his initial attacks, the Mini Jacks looked aggravated. All three of them attack him with quick succession with <Pumpkin Slam> though she didn’t see if he actually was hit by any of them.
“If you don’t have any attacking skills,” Sayha called out, “Then don’t stab. Katanas are best used as slicing weapons. Also, don’t overextend your sword. You’ll lose your balance more easily.” Sayha walked up where Dorian was in case the Jacks attacked again, “Best way to say alive is learn how to dodge. I know Shamans can go healing, and if you’re going to do any sort of healing, you can’t die. If you die, your party dies, and any quests you were on fail. Same goes as being a tank. If you die, your party dies. If you’re a DPS, your job is to take as little damage as possible so the healer can focus on the tank or tanks. If you take unnecessary damage, you become a liability.”
Giving that advice, Sayha quickly thought back to when she had been a raid leader briefly in another game. She had to say almost the exact same thing to her raid members almost every day. Needless to say, she didn’t stick around long. What she had been saying, Sayha thought should have been common knowledge. Unfortunately, not a lot of people seemed to realize that or care. If she was going to help someone, she was going to make sure that they knew that as the most basic knowledge.
“If they attack again, get behind me,” Sayha said, “I don’t have any agro-grabbing abilities to pull them off you so use me as a shield.”

With the Mini Jacks all turning to face him, Dorian shifted his blade up, using the time it took the pumpkins to turn and float over to ready himself further. One by one, the creatures activated their attacks, throwing themselves at the Shaman and aiming to slam into him with brunt force. He had remembered these attacks from yesterday, so it was a pinch to get out of their way; leaping backwards to roll off the ground in a tactical backflip, he landed on his feet, having just narrowly dodged the first two slams. Alas, he wasn't quick enough for the last one, doubling back a couple steps as the monster slammed into his chest, knocking the wind out of him slightly. It was then that Sayha came over to explain some pointers to his fighting style. She knows we're in the middle of a battle, right? Shrugging off Skrowe's words, the Shaman eagerly listened to what the elven assassin had to say. Hearing her explain the slicing purpose of the katana, Dorian nodded slowly, looking down at his blade. He had noticed that his weapon was rather ineffective for piercing techniques, though that hadn't stopped him a few times when he last fought these Halloween creatures. Taking the advice in, he swirled his sword around in his hand, loosening his grip on the hilt to let his movements become more freeform; his blade was an extension of his arm, so it needed to be able to move fluidly with him, so keeping his arm rigid was unacceptable. "Got it," Dorian acknowledged, giving the Assassin an appreciative smile, bowing his head in thanks for her aid. When she continued on, referring to the responsibilites of each of the roles, he nodded his head understandingly. This wasn't his first MMO rodeo, he knew the purpose behind the tank, the healer, the DPS; unfortunately, he just didn't know which one he was at the moment. Dorian heard the offer of using Sayha as a shield, but quietly shook his head; it would be a dark day when even he used someone as a meat shield. Brandishing his katana in a watery motion, he lunged past the Assassin, utilising the 2 seconds it took to reach the Mini Jacks position. "Divine Subjugation!" Calling out his skill probably was a little on-the-nose, and rather tactically inept, but he felt he would let that slide, given the fact he was fighting a trio of floating pumpkins. The flaming faces of the three creatures watched in a rage as the Shaman became infused with spiritual energy, his body giving a stunning yellow glow. Though this skill was usually meant for gathering up aggro whilst dealing damage, the Shaman hoped to drop the three of them before they could do anymore damage themselves. With a ferocious three-pronged slice, he cut through each of them with his katana's blade, getting in as many attacks as he could for the eight second duration of 'Divine Subjugation'; with each attack, the Jacks faltered back, taking hit after hit as they hissed and shrieked at the sudden intensity and pain that had burst from the Shaman. The first two Jacks eventually popped, exploding in a collection of bubbles, leaving the last Jack alone before the two adventurers. Making a swift spin on the spot, Dorian brought his katana through the circular, fluid motion, using his free hand to help guide him as he sliced the blade down atop the Mini Jack's head. Just as the first two, the Jack burst into an array of bubbles, leaving nothing left in the area except the two adventurers, the Shaman taking in slow, exaggerated breaths as 'Divine Subjugation' wore off. "Thank you for the help, miss Sayha; your words were wise and helpful," Dorian breathed out, bowing his head to the Assassin to emphasise his gratitude. "Shall we find some more?" After Dorain acknowledged her initial advice with a nod, Sayha had some hope for him. He began to move his katana around more fluidly which would be much better for attacking. Though he shook his head at using her as a shield. It was his decision, and she just shrugged at it. She didn’t know any healing spells so it would be on him to protect his own butt. Dorian then called out one of his skills. It made his body glow a bright yellow, and he slashed forward, cutting all three of the Mini Jacks at the same time. Two of them turned to bubbles and floated upwards. The third one took another attack, but it disappeared into bubbles as well. Once all three Mini Jacks disappeared, Dorian stopped glowing, his skill fading. He thanked her for her help and asked if they should go find more monsters to hunt.
“Just a moment,” Sayha replied, walking back over to Dorian, “First I need to determine something. What role are you planning on being when you reach max level? Don’t make the mistake of picking up a bunch of skills and not having that in mind. Since Shaman appears to be a versatile class, you’ll want to make up your mind sooner rather than later or else you may end up a jack of all trades but master of none.”
Sayha nodded to Dorian to follow and began to weave her way through the trees. “Most MMO’s I’ve played aren’t as customizable as this one is,” Sayha explained as she walked, “In other MMO’s your given your skills at whatever level the developers determined. Here you pick them which is nice. However, you want to make sure that you pick skills that synergize well with the style you plan on playing. I’d give myself as an example, but I’m doing a custom build instead of a recommended build.”
After a moment, Sayha heard something come charging towards them. Sayha drew one of her blades and manually parried the attack easily. She turned to see that it was a Zomboar, level 5. It looked like it was getting ready to charge.
Sayha kept her blade drawn but sidestepped away from Dorian, “I suggest you either dodge or block its attacks.”

Dorian made a solid swing towards the ground, launching his katana to skewer it into the grass and dirt; this way, he could grab it at any time he'd need to, without having to carry it around or sheath it back in it's scabbard. Lifting his head, he watched as the elf wandered back over to him, his arms gently crossing over his chest as he listened intently. Her question caught him by surprise for a moment, however, his eyes going wide as he quickly looked off into the distance, blinking slowly as he contemplated his answer. So far he hadn't gone a particularly specific way in terms of roles; when he first logged into Elder Tale, he had picked out skills that would keep him in the action, but also keep him alive. Survival was always his priority on Day 1 when it came to any MMO, though survival took on a different meaning altogether in the new world. In MMOs past, survival to him meant keeping himself utilised; without decent skills to keep oneself useful, the game would quickly deteriorate. But now... Survival meant actually trying to live longer than a few short minutes. Giving it some thought, and thinking on what he wanted to do, he slowly nodded, before quickly replying. "I refuse to believe in 'jack of all trades, master of none'. My main focus will be DPS, but I want to be... off-tank, off-support. As a Shaman, my barriers not only help me stay alive, but keep others going as well. Combining that with the damage focused skills, I can become an adventurer capable of helping any and all, no matter the task." He rubbed his chin for a moment, considering his answer, before nodding once more, solidifying it. "Perhaps I cannot DPS or Tank or Support as well as others, but I can certainly do my best." Before he could follow up with his statement, the two of them were interrupted by the sudden charge of an unseen creature. Darting back to his katana to whip it out of the ground and bring it up in a fluid motion, he stared at the newcomer with curiosity, wondering how he hadn't sensed such an angry form till now. Within this heavy boar creature - named Zomboar by the interface, level 5 - was an angry collective, a variety of spirits roaring at the two adventurers for disturbing the peace; the ghostly silhouette of the beast seemed to put the Shaman off for a few seconds. Staring at the red beady eyes that seemed to pierce one's soul, Dorian almost didn't notice when Sayha sidestepped away from him, suggesting either to dodge or block. If a level 28 was telling him not to engage directly, he certainly wasn't going to argue; twirling his katana in a wave like motion, he kept to the side of the boars tusks, keeping himself in the blind spot of it's charge. Those tusks aren't gonna be painless; I don't envy you. With that, Dorian swivelled himself on his feet, rushing past the Zomboar with his blade set across his body to carve a strong slice along the side of it's form, hearing the raged shriek as it bucked and pushed against the sudden jab of pain. "I'm sure I don't have to tell you to avoid those tusks; but all the same, stick to it's blind spot!" He'd probably get an earful for trying to tell the Assassin what to do, but it was a worthwhile risk of keeping her out of harm's way. Sayha nodded when she heard Dorian’s response. He wanted to be an off-tank DPS slash support. It made sense on paper. Off-tank and DPS usually went hand in hand, and she thought back to Dumah as her example. The support, not so much. As a support, you didn’t have the luxury of being an off-tank. Both roles took too much attention. Support DPS combo would be fine. Support and off-tank, absolutely not. “I’ll explain why your answer is wrong once we’ve dealt with the Zomboar,” Sayha said. Then Dorian decided to tell her what to do… even though she had just said the same thing. “You do realize I didn’t say what I did earlier for show right?” Sayha growled, “Good luck staying in its blind spot.”
The Zomboar went to charge but instead put its focus on Sayha. As it began to charge with its head down to the ground using <Bulldoze>, she moved her weapon out of the way. Just as the boar was about to hit her, she stopped it by putting her right foot on its head between its tusks. She scoffed slightly, pushing the boar backwards. Then, she kicked its side partially to aim it back at Dorian. Thanks to her Unarmed Combat mastery, she did a decent portion of damage to the Zomboar by stopping and kicking it. The shaman should have no problem killing it now.
“I suggest you kill it quickly,” Sayha said, “Boars usually come in packs.”

Dorian's mind kept it's focus, holding his concentration on the task at hand despite the incessant words of the Assassin with him. After all, hearing your goal's are wrong isn't an easy thing to just mull over in a few seconds; no, he had to keep that out of his head for now, in order to keep his game up and kill the boar before it did any serious damage, or before any of it's friends made a visit. After all, he had made the mistake yesterday of lingering with his kills; it cost him a tangle with a sizeable group of Mini Jacks, luckily only level 1. But this was different, level 5, a considerable amount higher than him, in game terms anyway. Brandishing his blade after having cut deep in the Zomboar's side, he swivelled to position himself behind it, keeping his form out of the monster's view; unfortunately this meant that it's only target was Sayha. He couldn't hear her aggressive response to his words over the angry roar of the ghostly boar as it charged at her with a heavy frontal assault. Lucky enough, the Assassin was adept at keeping herself out of the firing line, managing to kick the monster out of her range with a heavy brunt force to it's head, sending it reeling in his direction. Hearing her advice to kill it quickly - mirroring his own thoughts from before - he leapt into action, swishing his blade in circular motion and utilising the boar's dazed state to swiftly cut at it's stubbed legs, causing it to tumble and fall onto it's back. Not giving it the chance to correct itself, he made a sloppy, brunt slice down it's belly, straight across from it's throat down to it's stomach. If it had been the real world, a considerably gruesome image would have greeted the two adventurers; instead, the Zomboar merely made another angry squeal of pain before bursting into bubbles as well. With no more monsters in the near vicinity, the Shaman moved his katana in front of his form, positioning it vertically against the ground with the tip piercing the dirt, his hands gently resting atop the hilt to lean against it; taking a short breather, he braced himself for the Assassin's harsh words. And you said it was worth the risk to be extra careful. Notes: N/A Words: 393 Tags: @shadowsaiph Party Buff: Heavenly Defense

Sayha watched as the Zomboar charged back to Dorian. He quickly slashed at the boar’s legs, making it lose its balance. Then with another quick movement, Doran stabbed at the boar downward, making it disappear into bubbles. He then stabbed his katana into the ground, leaning against it. The level five might have been too much to deal with at his level. Sayha then walked over to Dorian, and he seemed to brace himself. “You have a good idea in mind,” Sayha started, “However there is a major flaw in your plan. Off-tank and DPS go hand in hand. Support and DPS also go hand in h and. Off-tank and support do not. Your job as an off-tank is to help the main tank primarily with adds or to help with the main boss if you have only one true tank. Your job as a support is to cover for your party to help them whenever possible. Both off-tank and support take up your full attention, and you cannot do both at the same time without risks to your party. The DPS in either situation is fine, but just note as an off-tank your DPS is more important but as a support your DPS is less important. You’ll need to choose one of the polar opposites.”
Sayha looked around, making sure there weren’t any nearby monsters, “We should take a break here. I’ll keep an eye out for any monsters. Rest and let yourself regain your health and mana.” Sayha then sheathed the sword that she still had in her hand, activating <Hearing Aptitude> to keep an ear out on the surroundings.

Dorian kept himself supported against the hilt of his katana, his senses attentive to the Assassin's words as she explained the flaw in his plan. He was beginning to see her point, gathering the idea that perhaps stretching himself out too much wasn't going to do anybody any favours. He still enjoyed the idea of covering all the bases, whether it be DPS, off-tank, off-support, off-healer... But he'd need to figure out a way to do them together effectively if he was going to make it to the big leagues, and he had to make it to the big leagues; if he didn't, his ability to help would be highly diminished. An idea slowly struck home in his mind, his eyes going wide as he lifted his head to the elf, scanning her features for a few seconds. When she suggested the break, he softly nodded his agreement, using the small breather to bring himself back to full health and gather up his mind, thinking of some way of making it work. "Miss Sayha, I just thought of something..." He began his idea, calling out her attention for a moment so as to explain it. "You say that off-tank and off-support take up full attention, which I now see is true; but that doesn't mean I can't be prepared for both, right? As a Shaman, my barriers have the added benefit of being able to be applied to either myself, or others, whether enemy or foe. So, if I stick with DPS, off-barrier, well; within any team, I can take on the role they need me for. Perhaps they already have an off-tank, but support is lacking, so I focus on applying my barriers to others; and should their tank situation be lacklustre, I can help out as well. Does... that sound more plausible?"Unfortunately, having kept her attention for some time, he just managed to spot something out of the corner of his eye that had been missed. Realising the small orb - a Will-o-Wisp - flying towards Sayha wasn't a monster, but an attack, the Shaman leapt forward, unhinging his katana from the ground and, darting out in front of the elf, he swung his blade up across his body, using the flat of his weapon to take the brunt of the attack. Reeling back a few paces, he felt the scorch burn at his front for a few seconds before slowly subsiding, as his vision fell to the monster now approaching them; thought the interface labelled it as one creature - a level 10 Ghostrider - it seemed to be composed of multiple spirits. "What next, miss Sayha? I follow your lead." Notes: N/A Words: 441 Tags: @shadowsaiph Party Buff: Heavenly Defense

As Dorian spoke, Sayha saw movement out of the corner of her eye as well as heard it. She was very good at multitasking. “I’ll explain that after,” Sayha said, about to draw a sword to slash the attack the beast sent towards her. However just as she was about to draw her blade, Dorian had jumped in front of her, blocking the attack.
“What the hell!” Sayha exclaimed. She used the back of his gear and pulled him back, making land on his but behind her, “What did I tell you? I said take care of YOURSELF. I can take care of myself. Idiot. You stay back and just watch. I won’t kill it right away so maybe you can pick up something.”
Sayha opted not to draw her weapons to intentionally prolong the battle. She walked towards the Ghostrider, making sure her jacket was securely on. The Ghostrider then began to breathe black mist towards Sayha, its <Soul Taint> attack. Sayha easily dodged it by somersaulting to the left. She then ran at it and once she reached its side, she quickly turned and did a spinning hook kick hitting the beast directly in the side. It went tumbling to the opposite side as Sayha dealt a decent amount of damage. However when she kicked it, Sayha was damaged slightly by its dark aura, but it didn’t bother her that much.
The Ghostrider regained itself and faced Sayha again, letting out another Will-o-Wisp. Sayha drew one of her swords and swiftly cut it as it came close to her. After she cut it, she dashed forward again towards the beast, “<Quick Draw>.” Once her attack landed, the Ghostrider let out a howl, and Sayha once again took slight damage. Sayha quickly drew her second katana and slashed them forward in an X pattern, “<Deadly Dance>.” Once her attack was over, the Ghostrider turned into bubbles and floated up towards the sky. Sayha deactivated her <Hearing Aptitude> and went back to Dorian.
“Like I told you earlier,” Sayha said, “Jack of all trades, master of none. You can do a custom build all you want and take whatever abilities you want. However if you don’t specialize in any one category, you’ll end up a hindrance to your party members but also yourself. If your goal is to be a high-end player and do dungeons and not be useless, figure out what you want to do. And do it quickly. Time waits for no one, especially not for adventurers.”

Spluttering in shock, Dorian tumbled backwards behind the Assassin as he was yanked by his gear, sending him sprawling out into the dirt. Coughing softly, he got back up to his feet. Despite the gentle anger that now laced his face, he shrugged off the rage of being manhandled so easily; but he stood by his spit-second decision in his mind, all the same. Even though he hadn't distracted her as much as he thought he had, the Shaman was in fact trying to push himself into role somewhat, seeing what fit in his mind. Despite his desire to help in any way he could, he still wanted to take the elf's words into consideration. She was teaching him more than she knew. Despite the anger he had elicited, he had done his duty as a tank rather well, taking the brunt of the damage from the tracking attack that had targeted the Assassin; perhaps down the road she'd be grateful for assistance, but now wasn't the time to dwell on formalities. With that, Sayha ordered him to stay back, begrudgingly accepting her command as he held his katana at the ready, his free hand dusting off the grime that had collected from being thrown into the ground. "Okay..." He kept an eagle eye on the Assassin and her enemy, watching as the experienced Adventurer took the lead. A curious expression rose on the Shaman's face as she walked towards the ghostly apparition, weapons still sheathed. Have I mentioned your new 'friend' is a badass? Rolling his eyes at the wanderlust that Skrowe had developed, he focused his attention on the battle, watching as the elf managed to effortlessly dodge the Ghostrider's gas attack. As she ran in for a hook kick at the monster's side, Dorian was impressed at her ability to impact; the creature was a spirit, and resistant to Physical damage, and yet she still managed to send it reeling and tumbling away with enough force to knock over a rhino. Noticing the slight drop in her health, Dorian deduced that the monster had some sort of corruption lurking in it's form; luckily Sayha had managed to shrug it off. Easily deflecting the second Will-o-Wisp, the Shaman kept his eyes trained as she would make two quick and powerful blade attacks, easily slaying the apparition where it floated aimlessly, turning into bubbles as was customary for a defeated monster. Releasing a thankful sigh, Dorian swung his blade up to sheath it slowly, listening for the clank as the metal fell in completely against the hard leather. As if the battle was nothing, the Assassin seemingly continued on her earlier point, once again repeating her Jack of All Trades dilemma. "I see..." Nodding his head, the Shaman dusted himself off once more, bowing his head in respect to the elf. "I apologise for darting in the way earlier... I just... Yeah." Funny, he wasn't usually lost for words, but this time he just couldn't explain his actions clearly. He dropped his head slightly, staring down at the ground, before lifting back up to smile at Sayha. "Thank you for coming out here to mentor me, by the way... Shall we continue, then?" After Sayha walked back to Dorian, he nodded his head in understanding. He bowed his head, apologizing for getting in her way earlier. Then he stood up, thanking her for helping him and asked if they should continue. “Apology accepted,” Sayha said, sheathing her blades, “I really can’t see sending newbies out here when they have no idea what they’re getting into.” She looked around, making sure there weren’t any other monsters in the near vicinity. “Listen, I get that you want to help everyone in your party in whatever way you can. It’s obvious that’s how you feel. But you need to realize that the way you’re approaching it is childish at best. The best way to help your party members is to excel at whatever role that you choose.”
Sayha looked at her own health and mana. It was lower than what she’d want, health was about 75% while mana was about 80%. “I’ll need to restore some of my own health and mana for a bit; I don’t have any pots,” Sayha said, “We’ll stay here for now. No monsters should attack us for a bit. But once we’re healed up I have a plan.”
Sayha found a spot beneath one of the trees and took her sheathed blades off of her belt. After sitting down, she set the blades parallel on her lap. “Once we’re both to full health, I’ll try to take on a tanking role,” Sayha started, “I have no agro pulling abilities, but I should be able to agro them if I do a simple attack thanks to my higher level. You will be in charge of doing most of the attacking. It will be good swordplay practice.”

Releasing a sigh of relief, the Shaman nodded his head as Sayha accepted his apology, thankful that she had at least some understanding of his actions; or at the very least, seemed to gather what he was getting at. With the trouble over for now, Dorian shifted his body a bit, brushing down the creases in his cloth armour to make his appearance more comfortable on his form, his katana still sitting weightily in it's scabbard. Listening to her explain the issues behind his approach, he finally conceded to her point, giving a soft chuckle under his breath. "Yeah, I suppose it was kind of childish; I guess I was just unfamiliar with how this game panned out... It's very different from other MMOs, even without the... well, you know, real world thing going on." He always had trouble going back on that subject, shaking his head to throw himself back into the conversation at hand. "Well, perhaps off-support suits me better, hm? I mean, the definition of support is helping people, right? That sounds good to me."After finally coming up with his decision, he gave the elf a smile, bowing his head silently to thank her once more. "You've got a real knack for this kind of stuff, if I do say so myself. And while I at first was a little perturbed by your... aggressive methods, I understand now what you were trying to say. So, again... thanks." Rubbing the back of his neck, he turned away, spying out a comfortable spot to rest beneath the shade of a nearby tree, slumping his form down to lean back against the oak and take a much needed breather. The air was still damp with the aura of dark that he had first sensed when they arrived, but after the small collection of monsters they had slain, it was starting to lose it's impact. Perhaps they were doing some good. "Sounds good to me," Dorian replied finally, referring to her idea of staying put; albeit he had already dedicated to remaining seated for a short time until his health and mana were both back up to snuff, and it seemed like the Assassin was in the same boat. Patting the ground next to him, he politely offered her the seat to rest with him, his eyes wide as he kept an ever vigilant gaze on their surroundings. It wouldn't do to have any more surprises like the Ghostriders. The Assassin suggested a plan, much to Dorian's surprise, his head lifting to listen more intently to her idea. "I like that idea! Who knows, I may learn more. After all, you're much handier with those swords than I am with mine." He gave a weak laugh, patting at his hilt. "I didn't even know this was meant to be used for slicing!" He still hoped some humour would lighten the mood between them; despite Skrowe's rather obvious infatuation, he did genuinely desire a friendship with her. Despite her aggressive attitude, she seemed like the kind of person you'd want by your side in a tough situation. Notes: N/A Words: 517 Tags: @shadowsaiph Party Buff: Heavenly Defense
