[attr="class","solcap"] Relaxing at her small work table was Capsule, face illuminated by glowing, blue mushrooms. She would probably never adjust to this, but gosh... This new housing district had everything she needed. It was up on the hills of Snowdonia, so the weather was perpetually winter all year long. Her Snowfield Bear, Aleksei, was ecstatic. Kasper, her Crystal Reindeer, showed enthusiasm in his own way. The two of them were currently taking turns frolicking out in the snow. She would let Kasper have his turn in another hour or so.
As for herself... Capsule toyed with the Appearance Reversion potion sitting on one corner of the table. Since running into Oxford during the preparations for the trains, her mind had been made up. There was no point in keeping up this facade. It would certainly throw everyone for a loop once again, but oh well~. She had to stay true to herself.
There was a soft pop as the potion was uncorked. Capsule drained the vial in two large gulps. Unlike the Appearance Change Potion, this worked almost instantly, though the change felt minor from where she was sitting. That twinge of orange in the corner of her was very telling, however. Her armor and gear seemed to fit better, too. Goodbye, shapely butt and hips. Curves were so overrated, and not that desirable for her. The only thing she would miss was her chest, but at least back pains would be a thing of the past now.
After taking a few moments to pat herself all over and check her reflection in a small hand mirror, Capsule returned to the kitchen in triumph. She was back, and best of all, there was no change in her demeanor. That curious confidence remained behind, and that awkwardness would likely never leave her. The restored redhead would have to warn Mute before she came home, of course. It would be shocking to walk into your house and see what you assumed to be a stranger. Everyone else would just have to deal with being blindsided.
Any who, that was enough dilly dallying for today. After selling her rarely used house and relocating to this hole in the wall, she had settled in and needed to get back to work. Her status as the highest leveled Pharmacist needed to be upheld (dohohoho). A life ward, revival item, and maaaybe some kind of euphoria potion was on her agenda for today. She was only one hundred percent on how to proceed with one of them, and that was the life ward. When her knowledge of Harry Potter and the supernatural failed her, Capsule often turned to video games, tabletop games, and books for inspiration. [attr="class","solcap"] Bam, pow, Capsule slid two of the ingredients she needed for the life ward in front of her. These consisted of an Anima Berry and a Moon Valley Flower. One refreshed the body, as it held the essence of life within its juices. The other held greater medicinal properties than your garden variety herb. As for the third ingredient… it would actually serve as the means of binding the ingredients together, and would technically make the so called potion a pill, instead. Simply put, she was going to use her researched material, gelatin, to turn the life ward potion into a life ward pill. She would have to think of a cooler name for it later…
For now, she got straight to work. The berries needed to be crushed, and the valley girls flowers reduced to a fine powder. Capsule juggled the berries for a few seconds while she searched for her knife. Where was that darn thing? (it was actually set to her far right) Crafting gets so dull that she has to play these small games to entertain herself at times. plip plip plip went the berries, each falling neatly into her mortar and pestle. Normally she would go through the trouble of cutting them, but it was really unnecessary. Crushing them whole was just as effective.
chop chop chop went her knife against the table. The flowers were mostly cut to remove useless plant matter or weeds. Sometimes the roots were removed, too, if they contained little or no properties for her to harvest. These flowers were mostly ready to go straight into the grinder, but Capsule liked to be thorough, especially when it involved research. Cutting corners rarely got you anywhere.
Red juice squirted out as she applied more and more pressure to the berries. They were covered and lying on top of the valley flowers, lightly swaddled between the flowers. Their juices were completely dousing the leaves on the bottom, turning the bowl a vibrant shade of violet. This was rather messy, and would be a pain to work with if she were going to use the kind of tablets that needed to bake. It was a simple and efficient method, but could stand to be improved upon. That was her purpose for researching gelatin, anyway. The memory of boiling bones and the smell it produced made her insides quiver in disgust. Thank goodness she had went through the trouble of preparing a batch a few days ago. Gelatin needed to sit a while in a chilled environment to form a consistent shape. It was logic employed from making jello as a child. [attr="class","solcap"] Leaving the smoothly mashed mixture sitting on the table, Capsule got up to dig around in the ole icebox. Resting on a tray covered with small molds, were the translucent gelatin pieces. They were left to sit in the fridge to avoid adverse effects, like melting or falling apart into goo. She would not feel comfortable leaving them out until the research was complete. Once they had a solid structure, everything would be just hunky dory. She pinched a piece off of the violet mass, and rolled it betwixt her thumb and forefinger. It was a nice and sticky little blob; in other words, it was paafekuto. With her free hand, Capsule picked up one half of a gelatin pill, and packed the small blob into it. She used a toothpick to perfectly press the rest inside, and neatly capped the pill with another gelatin half. The anal retentive part of her wanted to make the halves their own solid colors, but it would be too much of a hassle to make two different mixtures and pack them into separate halves… or, better yet, she could just color the gelatin in advance. To do so, she would need some crushed bugs. Capsule dismissed the idea for now. She was not trying to get fancy with the life ward -- er, pill. "I be the C A P P Y…" Damn, that was not a very catchy hook. "Who dat, who dat, C A P P Y. They do dat, do dat, C A P P Y." Nope. This ship was not destined to sail. Anyway, who cares~? Because the gelatin halves were translucent, the colored mixture within shown through clear as day. Besides, the color of the completed capsule would be irrelevant (unlike her). The effect was all that mattered, in the grand scheme of things.
And Capsule could write a better description than she could prettify crap up. [attr="class","solcap"] The life ward potion -- blaargh, pill -- did exactly what it implied: it acted as a ward against death. It also doubled as a revival item, but it was less reliable than an actual revival item. For starters, it worked on the assumption that the Adventurer might die, and as such, it had a time limit to adhere to. The limit was a reasonable one, but if you misjudged the time, you were screwed -- big time. Once triggered upon death, it restores a set percentage of health, one that is generally low for reasons. Said reasons included not entirely screwing healers over, despite the lack of them in particular. Capsule always tried to keep her inventions well balanced, so that others could not misuse them. Did it always work? Not exactly. It was better than just making something broken and not adding limitations, ne?
The purpose of this item was to make up for the lack of healers, to give solo players a true feeling of self-sufficiency, and make raids or dungeons a lot easier on everyone else. And maybe to line her own pockets somehow. If there were not many healers available, and the ward only revived you with a set percentage, would that not increase the need for healing potions and the like? And if she made the effects stronger at higher levels or tiers… Did she even need to spell that out?
Capsule whistled to herself as she continued to construct more of the life wards. The resulting capsules were all violet in purple. The color of the mixture was practically bleeding through the gelatin shells. If she allowed them to sit for a few hours in the fridge, they would dye themselves. "C A P P Y~," she sang on the way to the fridge. [attr="class","solcap"] For the revival item, Capsule decided to not only start small, but to take her pets into consideration. The one downside to being an Animal Trainer was that they suffered a Lander death, but she had discovered that she could heal them, either by the pet medication she manufactured, or the #too much math pet formula researched by Caerbannog. Both she and the Samurai were attached to their pets, too much to allow them to fall in battle, but there were times when that was impossible to avoid. Capsule liked to think she could prevent accidents from happening, but knew there was only so much she could do. From somewhere beneath the table, her loyal Malinois, Bosco, rested his head on her knee.
Capsule reached under the table to pet the faithful dog on the head. Good old Bosco… She could always count on him to be there for her. The only thing she could not rely on him for was a test subject that involved death. No, she would be using a penguin or something for the experiment… which she still needed to conduct before she could get carried away.
The concept itself was a simple one, and would borrow heavily from the life ward capsules. She picked up a stray piece of parchment, and began to draw on it in pencil. That one game series had the Phoenix Down, which was self-explanatory; phoenixes had the ability to rise from the dead, after first being doused by flames. To avoid copyright issues (even though she was removed from the world in which the series existed, it still felt wrong to directly rip off of something and not even bother to alter the original name), she would use a leaf instead. Or maybe a berry? The Anima here was largely drawn from the Anima Berry, so…
She made a note to search for more sources of Anima later. It was also relevant to the overskill she was steadily devising, though not so necessary, as there were other sources to derive from. Sketches of leaves, twigs, and berries dotted her paper. "Revival leaf, revival berry, revival twig…" Capsule shook her head each time. None of these names were sticking out much. In one corner, she idly drew a drop of water. "Anima Drop…" Now that was something. It had a nice ring to it, too. Question was, how did she turn it into a physical substance? [newclass=.babar]background-color:#050505; border: 2px solid #050505; border-radius: 5px; overflow: hidden; width: 175px; height:6px;[/newclass] [newclass=.babar]background-color:#050505; border: 2px solid #050505; border-radius: 5px; overflow: hidden; width: 175px; height:6px;[/newclass] ∝: 405 ♫: Born To Die ✏: Anima Drop Begin @: Capsule[newclass=.solcap ::-webkit-scrollbar]height:5px;width:10px;background-color:#2c2c2c;[/newclass] [newclass=.solcap ::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color:#211f20;border-left:1px solid #211f20;border-top:1px solid #211f20;border-bottom:1px solid #211f20;[/newclass]

[attr="class","solcap"] There was so much theory crafting for her to do, but actual action would move the process along. So, she wanted to make drop of Anima that could revive a fallen Animal Trainer pet. She would obviously need some Anima Berries, which she had plenty of here, but what else…? More Moon Valley Flowers? It was definitely something to consider, but that combination would get stale soon. What else provided life energy…?
Her eyes fell upon the tiny intersecting veins in her hands and arms. Blood. Blood was a good source of energy. Without it or oxygen, most beings could not survive. A blood transfusion was one of the common ways of keeping someone alive when their own body lacked in fluids. Understanding flashed within her eyes. What if the answer was not an Anima Drop, but a transfusion, instead? Enchanters had a skill like that for channeling their mana to others in a party, but Capsule was too selfish to take it, and would rather use that skill slot for something else. It was why she created mana restoration pots, too. Her scalp lightly tingled with inspiration.
"I will be the roundabout…"
Without realizing it, the redhead had risen to her feet, and had the palms of her hands pressed against the tabletop. An Anima transfusion… such a thing might be better served as a skill for her roleplay subclass. Animal Trainers could provide better health regen or even revival via their own life energy. Adventurers could afford to die, though it was greatly preferable to not. Sorry, pets, but those were ideas she would reserve for later.
Capsule sat back down at her table, and grabbed her notebook. She had to write these down before she forgot them later. It was somewhat disheartening to have to write off her research like that, but some things were just not possible. Also, was there not an overskill that essentially turned Animal Trainers into sort of Summoners? She knew it gave access to a few tier one skills, and higher tiered skill that she considered to be pretty dirty. The name escaped her at the moment, but it allowed the Summoner to attempt to turn the trained pet on its owner, or even claim it as its own… something like that. It seemed like it would be a neat overskill to have, but Capsule only cared about that one skill. Then again, it would ensure that her pets would revive…
The more she thought about it, the more she wanted to create a resurrection item just for spite. The point of taking Pharmacist was so she could alter how this world works, correct? She snapped her notebook closed. Screw it. So what if she got rejected? She still had to try! It was not fair that Animal Trainers had to unlock an overskill that only allowed them to become a weaker form of Summoner.
Bosco and a Goat Servant watched in concern as the rustled Enchanter scraped her chair hard against the floor. The Goat Servant was thinking that he would buff the floors later, when mistress Capsule was out on an errand. Bosco only thought of bones and juicy steaks. Capsule had her mind full of blood transfusions, and ways to convert her life energy into a workable substance. If she could unlock that key, she could do the same for a revival item for Adventurers. [attr="class","solcap"] Anima Berries, Moon Valley Flowers, and… setting down a vial of her own blood would have been far too dramatic. And frankly, kind of gross. Capsule had some needles and syringes stored in a cabinet, but she was squeamish when it came to actually drawing blood. She also could not imagine ingesting someone else's blood orally, and there was the issue of diseases and what not… she shivered at the idea. No, she had a plan for that last ingredient. For now, she focused on turning the whole materials into mush. She almost regretted not saving some of the mixture from the life ward capsules, as they all used the base ingredients. The only difference were the end goals for each; the life ward revived, yes, but was only intended to work with Adventurers. The revive item for monsters and pets was fundamentally different -- Capsule smacked herself in the forehead as she remembered something. For the skinwalking potion, had she not used bits and pieces of an actual animal? That was as simple as using crushed animal bones. With a small bottle of powdered animal bone added to her list of ingredients, Capsule was able to begin. She crushed and grinded the valley flowers first, and separated them into a beaker. The Anima Berries were next. These she largely crushed and mashed until the skin, juice, and pulp were thoroughly blended, and then scooped into a different beaker. The mortar and pestle was handed off to the lingering Goat Servant, who was instructed to thoroughly wash the tools. She would need that later, to produce powder from Mana Flowers. Capsule added teaspoons of the Moon Valley Flower powder, Anima Berry juice, and a dash of bone powder into a vial. She then proceeded to mix the lot with a silver stirrer, until it was all well blended. Once a consistent texture was achieved, she set the vial on a stand over a small flame. It would take a while to sit, which gave her some time to do other things in the meanwhile. Making that powder out of Mana Flowers was one. Acquiring a test subject was another, though it was still too early to be performing experimentations just yet. The product was not even halfway done, after all. [newclass=.babar]background-color:#050505; border: 2px solid #050505; border-radius: 5px; overflow: hidden; width: 175px; height:6px;[/newclass] [newclass=.babar]background-color:#050505; border: 2px solid #050505; border-radius: 5px; overflow: hidden; width: 175px; height:6px;[/newclass] ∝: 380 ♫: Born To Die ✏: Bluh bluh notes. @: Capsule[newclass=.solcap ::-webkit-scrollbar]height:5px;width:10px;background-color:#2c2c2c;[/newclass] [newclass=.solcap ::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color:#211f20;border-left:1px solid #211f20;border-top:1px solid #211f20;border-bottom:1px solid #211f20;[/newclass]

[attr="class","solcap"] Capsule thanked the Goat Servant as he handed her back the cleaned and dried mortar and pestle. Who needed to hire Landers, when tamed beasts were just as useful? Definitely not Capsule, that was for sure. Now, if only these Mana Flowers could be as neat and tidy as her tools… The source she got them from could never be bothered to remove the nonessential bits, nor did they ever take the time to at least clean up the plants. It was clear that she either needed to find someone better to buy from, or just gather up her ingredients herself. It was so time consuming, though. By the time she had eliminated the clutter, her vial was at a soft boil. Her habit of being thorough sometimes worked against her. Capsule set her pestle down into the mortar, where the Mana Flowers were dispersed. She moved the entire mortar and pestle over to the side, and reached out to seize the vial. The liquid inside was at a steady bubble. The bubbles popped and snapped at the interior of the glass she stirred the mixture. It appeared to be ready, though it was still missing that key ingredient: the life force of an Adventurer. The vial was uncomfortably warm when she cradled it in her hands. Had she waited later, it would have been hot enough to burn her. Capsule ignored the discomfort as she shut her eyes, and concentrated. Prana Drain was effortless to perform, but never had she done it in this way. She was reversing the ebb and flow of the drain, imagining herself not sucking the life force from another, but giving it, instead. Rather than pull, she pushed, pushed her prana into the vial. Her eyebrows knitted together as an uneasy sensation began to take hold. It did not hurt, but made her feel tired, in a way. It was like waking up a little too early from a nap, after you had fallen close into a dream state. A soft yawn crept out of her mouth. Just another good push, and she would be done. In her hands, the vial was steadily being filled with a substance that trickled from her fingertips. Bosco offered a nervous whimper. The dog had no idea what was going on; all he could see was that the health bar of his mistress was dwindling. The Goat Servant was being proactive, and had gone off to retrieve something. [attr="class","solcap"] When the Goat Servant returned with a half dead Snowdonia Penguin, Capsule was slumped forward in her seat. Her hands were stretched out before her, and her chin rested atop the table. The vial was safe, though startling her might run the risk of it being upturned and wasted everywhere. Unlike the life ward capsules, this mix was a vibrant indigo. It shone with a brilliant luster, and to the goat and the dazed penguin, seemed as full of life as any of the local wildlife.
Bosco gently nudged Capsule in the side. "…Hrm? Not right now…" A more insistent jab from the dog roused the redhead from her impromptu nap. "Mm? All right, all right. Keep your fur on…" A pair of emerald eyes glanced over at the goat. "Set it down." She rolled her head towards the spot beside her on the table. The goat did as he was told. "Kill it." Her tone of voice was sluggish and indifferent. Penguins. There were plenty of them outside, and Aleksei practically subsisted on the creatures. They were little more than rodents to her.
The little penguin uttered a soft wawk. Its beady little eyes were alert, and it gave an uneasy flutter of its wings. For a moment, Capsule feared it would spaz out and flop all over the damn place, but it only shuffled around in place. Capsule dipped into the vial with a dropper tool. To her left, the penguin squawked in a combination of fear and pain when the goat slammed a heavy fist into its feathery body. She waited until the cascade of bubbles began to flow, before placing a drop of the liquid into the gaping beak of the penguin.
There was no obvious change at first, but then the bubbles slowly reversed their trajectory. One by one, they flowed back into the body of the penguin. A full minute went by before the bulk of the bubbles had reformed into a solid (and soft) figure. The penguin blinked up in confusion as it was made whole once more. Its health was back to where it was before it died. Mission accomplished. [attr="class","solcap"] Now that she knew the Anima Drops worked, she could focus on making something similar for Adventurers, but more… potent. This would revive someone with a percentage of health and mana. It should prove to be quite valuable in the long run. All she had to do now was prepare the Mana Flower powder, and combine it with the Anima Berries and Moon Valley Flowers, and infuse those with her own essence. It was as simple as pie.
She was still a bit groggy from that brief nap, but found herself falling back into a familiar pattern as she ground up the Mana Flowers. Oddly enough, it was not making her feel any drowsier. It normally had that sort of effect on her, but was likely different now that she had something to occupy her mind upon waking up. That and she was vaguely disturbed, for reasons she could not fully comprehend. It had to do with her body, but everything should be fine. So why was she bothered? And why was the table so much higher? Even her chair felt off. Before, Capsule could stretch her legs out as far as she liked. Now, attempting to do so brought her heels off of the floor.
'It is probably just my imagination.' She could not help but lift one foot into the air and waggle around for a few moments. This was really weird… She sifted the Mana Flower powder into a bowl, and poured half of the Anima Berries into it. A somewhat smaller number of the Moon Valley Flowers were added, and then the contents of the bowl were mixed together. Everything was starting to blend together, her vision included. It might be wise to make the completion of this potion her stopping point for today. Taking that Appearance Reversion Potion so soon before working was not her brightest idea.
A decently long nap would do her just fine. [attr="class","solcap"] Capsule rubbed at her eyes with the back of her hand. Given how groggy she was right now, keeping everything contained in the bowl was a good idea. It was nicely heavy, and actually a tool for Chefs who liked to bake. Specifically, it was best used for mixing batter and the like. Capsule knew that Mute did not mind too much, as long as she washed out the cooking utensils and put them back where they belong afterwards. Capsule was careful about that kind of stuff, so there was never any need to worry. Her bigger issue right now was avoiding making a big mess on the kitchen table.
She closed her eyes and began to focus once more. It was easy to start small and apply her life force (prana) into the bowl. Infusing mana from her own sources would be the hard part. This was probably the downside to not taking that mana channeling skill, but the method should be similar to pushing out prana. She just had to focus on redirecting it, pretending that the bowl was not a bowl of thick goop, but an actual person. This poor person was low on mana, and they needed that to heal the party! She just had to give them a little… more…
Her eyelids rapidly flickered with exertion. In her hands, the bowl was humming and vibrating. Into it flowed mana and prana, entwining with each other as they hurried to fill the bowl. Capsule slumped heavily against the table, her sides rising and falling in quick succession. Her feet were slightly off the floor, a fact that she was too emotionally drained to notice. But the product was more or less complete now. She just needed to…
She just needed…
She needed to place… to place…?
The world shifted from black to light as her eyelids struggled to stay open. The exertion and her exhaustion was finally getting the best of her. Before her head could hit the table, however, the nearby Goat Servant slipped a pillow beneath it. [attr="class","solcap"] 'Eugh...' Even with the pillow tucked under her head, pinpricks of invisible needles drove themselves into neck and shoulders. Tinkering with her life force like this was not good for her help, or her sleep schedule. It might have been her imagination, but her arms also felt shorter somehow. Capsule shook her head. More importantly, how long had she fallen asleep?
Her eyes immediately went to the wall, where a window would be in any normal house. There were no windows in this entire domicile, a fact she would have to adjust later. Nothing big would be set up, of course. The whole point of this home was to remain out of the public eye, though there was apparently a sort of notice and description of the homes listed somewhere. Capsule hated that, if it were true, but she supposed it was the closest thing to a phone book this world would have. Or some kind of housing directory… whatever. It was a little too soon to be thinking about this after waking up.
The bowl had been removed from her grasp at some point, and was pushed towards the center of the table. Capsule had to brace herself on her toes and lean forward to snag it. Strange… The contents of the bowl was as expected, at least. Rather than the indigo the Anima Drop radiated, this was more of a cerulean color. She did not need to test it to know that it should work. If it could work on the penguin before a few minor adjustments, it should be suitable for Adventurer consumption.
For distribution methods, Capsule decided to employ the gelatin once more. She had to form the mold first, of course, but upon completion she would have roundish, soft cell pills. The formula could be inserted, and the drug itself administered by plopping the pill into the mouth of the victim. It was made to be easily dissolvable. Needles were too messy, ampoules too far spread, and transdermal patches took their sweet time. This? This seemed as good an option as any. Dissolving it right under the tongue was the best way in this situation. Some people were simply too squeamish for needles, and others could not be trusted at all to properly inject a vein.
The only thing this last item needed was a proper name. Whatever it was, it needed to reflect both the mana and the prana. What could possibly encompass both? If she were going to stick with the Indian theme, then Soma might be fitting, although it was also the name of a hallucinatory drug in Brave New World. It was an amusing thought, but unreasonable to assume that very many people would make any references to her Soma Drop.
But that was a thought for another day. Her findings needed to be sent off for examination, and Aleksei needed to be checked on. The Goat Servant could attend to the cleanup of the kitchen… which seemed oddly larger than before. Later, when she went out to collect her bear, she would realize that it was not that the kitchen had gotten larger, but she had shrunk in height.
