Aelin wasn't completely new to the battlefield. Her father had been a recognized soldier back where she was from. She could have gone his route and been a warrior princess, but instead, she chose to be a healer. She had always wanted to help people, like her mother had. She had been loved by everyone in their village because of her kind nature and loving attitude. She had always had a green thumb as well and though Aelin wasn't much of a gardener, she had loved watching and helping her mother out with the garden in the back of her house. Those days were gone now though and though she longed for the stories of battle from her father and the knowledge of plants from her mother, she knew it was long past and that she would never see them again. The thought made her sad and made her wonder what her role in the world would be. She had her plans but some times doubted whether she was doing the right thing or not. She shook those feelings off quickly, though and instead, focused on her goal. She had her reasons and no matter what anyone would do when it came down to her completing it, she would move forward. She couldn't focus so much on the past as she had to focus on the near future.
She let a sigh escape her lips as she traveled out past the gate and into the Windsor Greatwood. She had heard that the beasts who lived here were low leveled and because of her own inexperience, she knew that this was where she needed to start. She had also heard that the creatures respawned, if that was the correct terminology, though she doubted that they could come back to life. If the beasts could, then why not them? Why not her people and why not her parents? The question, however, she knew she would never get the answer to. No one seemed to know anyways, they just knew as well as she did that when the people of this land died, they died forever. There was no second chance for them, like there was for the beasts, like there was for the Adventurers. It irked her in every form and made her cause seem that much more needed. She looked around the spot where she stood and saw nothing. There were no creatures this close to the gate, so she knew she would have to travel. She huffed out a breath and began to walk towards the forest. It was there that she knew her first battle would begin.
She stood just on the outskirts of the forest, checking her equipment. Her armor was intact, though seriously worn out. She had cringed as she put it on this morning, not able to wear the dress and apron that she wore as her usual attire. She wished she had worn it now though, as the armor was old, clearly a hand me down from someone and the worst part, she had paid actual money for it. She shook her head at the disgusting thing and swore to herself that she would make new armor once she was finished for the day. Next, she took the whip that had been hanging from her back pocket. The whip was made from leather, as the armor was, and seemed just as old. She cursed and sighed a heavy sigh, knowing that she would have to do something about her battle gear. She had managed to gain a few of the levels that the adventurers had and knew that she could create something amazing if she just gave it a try. She hadn't yet made any clothing, but she was sure that she could if she put her heart and mind to it. Besides, her mission wasn't due just yet and she needed to be a higher level in case things didn't turn out how she was planning it and she was made to fight. She wasn't sure if she could, but if she had to defeat an adventurer or two, she would do it, or die trying. Not that she had a death wish or anything.
