Sayha had been keeping herself quite busy. Between training, adventuring, and researching, she didn’t give herself much free time… at least for the time being. Training would always keep her busy though the training could be put on the back burner for a while as she had just gotten home after a few adventures. However instead of relaxing or researching, Sayha decided it was about time for her to focus on her Pharmacology skill. After all, she had been doing plenty of research on the subject so she had a few ideas and a few recipes she wanted to test out before attempting to make her own poisons.
What she had in mind for crafting weren’t poisons but rather potions. Potions, to Sayha, would me made rather similar to poisons except that the herbs and effects would be different. If she could get a good handle on how to make potions… as well as some other Pharmacist recipes… she would be set to start working on poisons… probably. It was all in theory so there was no way to know until Sayha tried it out.
Sayha at that point was sitting in her office that also doubled as her library. There were quite a few books on Pharmacology, most of them scattered on her desk. Her notebook was almost full of notes and scribblings on different herbs, and she brought the notebook with her as she moved into her Apothecary room. The way her house was set up was that the only way to get to the library was through the Apothecary since she wanted to have a closet added in at the front of the house. Since it was how she requested it, it didn’t bother her at all.

The three she had chosen were horehound, hyssop, and motherwort. The horehound she intended to be the fuse herbs with the other two being the main herbs for the smoke. She started with the hyssop and motherwort, taking their dried leaves off the stems. Once that was done, she set the stems aside for possible later use. After, she took the leaves and began to break them apart and put them into the mortar. Once all the leaves were there, she used the pestle and carefully grinded them up into a fine powder. Using a funnel, Sayha carefully put the powder into the flask. It only filled up the flask about a fourth of the way so she went back to grab more of the herbs and grinded them as well. Once the flask was about four fifths full of the two-herb mixture, she got up and cleaned both the mortar and pestle in her kitchen. There wasn’t a sink in her Apothecary but there was a hot plate that she planned on using later.
Once everything was cleaned, Sayha returned to the Apothecary and prepared the horehound. She grinded up just as she had the other two herbs except she didn’t put it in the flask right away. From another table, Sayha took a flask of some unidentified black powder and mixed a little bit of it with the horehound. She bought it from a Lander who had told her to mix it with the lighting herb as it would make it light up once a certain amount of mana was sent to it. Once she was done with the mixture, she used the funnel once more and finished filling the flask using the powder she had finished mixing.
After washing the mortar and pestle once more as well as the funnel, Sayha returned to the Apothecary and put the lid on the flask. The lid was a clip-style lid meaning that part of it could be opened without opening the entire lid. There was a small hole in it that would allow mana to go through. Smoke Grenade: check. Now onto something different.

Next on Sayha’s list was making an Anti-Burn Cream. The Cream was actually a fairly simple process compared to the grenade. First, she gathered what she would need from the kitchen which was a large spoon, a saucepan, and a bowl. After setting those on the table, Sayha made her way outside using her back door, bringing the bowl with her. Just outside her house was a small greenhouse that housed her live plants. It was pretty scarce at that point in time, but Sayha planned on expanding it in the near future. Once inside, she went to the place where she had begun the process of purifying it.
The previous night, she had pulled off some stems from her Aloe plant and cut them into a few sections. She had set these sections in water over night. The water had been clear when she started it but the color was now a pinkish or light red color depending on who saw it. The color of the water were the impurities that had been removed from the aloe plant. After removing the sections of aloe and placing them into the bowl she had brought outside. She set the bowl aside as she dumped the colored water onto the grass that was outside the greenhouse. After the water was completely gone, Sayha grabbed the bowl she had put the aloe in and brought both bowls inside. The aloe she put immediately into the apothecary and took the bowl that had been used to soak the aloe into the kitchen to wash it. Once that was done, she grabbed a non-serrated knife and brought it with her.

After setting everything on her table, which was now getting a bit crowded, she took the beeswax and set it in the saucepan. She could see the beeswax now begin to melt so she turned the heat from the hot pan down. As the block of melted, she carefully put most of the vial of coconut oil into the saucepan with the wax. Using the spoon, she carefully stirred the wax and oil together.
Once the wax was completely melted, Sayha turned off the hot pan and set the saucepan on a metal tray that had been on the table before. It wouldn’t heat up from the heat of the saucepan and would help it cool off. Once that was set, Sayha scraped the aloe vera gel she had scraped off of the rinds and put them into the wax mix. She carefully stirred the mixture together, doing her best to make everything even. Once the aloe was completely mixed in, Sayha added a few drops of lavender oil and mixed that in. Once she was happy with the end result, she grabbed a glass jar and carefully poured the cream into the jar. Once she was done, she carefully set the jar aside, leaving it open so that it could finish cooling. She recalled a hint from Fletcher from when she was first working on her Pharmacist subclass; if she closed something while it still had heated things in it, it could explode. She definitely didn’t want that to happen so she kept herself safe and left it open.
She took both bowls, the saucepan, and the spoon into her kitchen and washed everything up. It took a lot longer than she had thought it would due to the wax. However once she was done cleaning everything up, she went back to her apothecary and planned out her next item.

After Sayha made her way back to her apothecary, she took a quick break from actually making items and decided to clean up her workspaces a bit. She first got rid of the dried stems and the rinds of the aloe from earlier. Then she straightened up some of the papers and things that were all over the place. She needed to remember to clean up her work spaces more often… though she thought that the last time when she had been researching and working in the room.
After she was done, Sayha went back to the kitchen and got a decent sized cup full of water, bringing it back to the apothecary. She would probably have to refill it many times within her next sets of recipe tries. For the one she had planned next, she wouldn’t need a whole lot of water.
Next up was the Anti-Poison Poultice… it was kind of counter-productive considering what her plans were, but it would be a good recipe to know… just in case. It wasn’t like she was planning on using the poisons on herself, but stuff happens. Sayha knew that all too well. Either way, that was next on the list as the next two items were both tablets… then something kind of like a potion, then a bunch of potions.
First things first, Sayha went to her collection of herbs and grabbed chickweed and licorice root. She brought them over to the table, de-stemming the chickweed leaves. Once she was done, she set the now bare stems aside.

Once again, Sayha took one leaf at a time of the chickweed and initially crumbled it into small pieces. It was a rather boring and repetitive process, but there wasn’t much Sayha could do. Pharmacist was based around herbs… at least in this world. It wasn’t like she had complex machinery that could synthesize regular medicine… though it was very possible that regular medicine wouldn’t work where she was now… but that was a different matter entirely.
Once Sayha was done breaking the leaves apart into the mortar, she took the pestle and grinded them into a fine powder. Once she was done grinding the herb leaves, she put them into a bowl, making sure to get all the powder out of the mortar. Once that part was done, Sayha stood up and stretched. She needed to take a break from the repetitive work so she headed to the kitchen. The house had come with cooking utensils and objects such as that… though Sayha wasn’t a cook so she didn’t really do much with them. Of course, there was also the issue with the fact that Sayha didn’t know how to cook… well she knew how to make toast and popcorn back on the other side… but beyond that not much. Her stepmother spent a lot of time in the kitchen and since she was there, Sayha was not.
However since Sayha moved to Moon Dance Forest, some things had changed… but not much. The villagers were kind enough to explain how to brew tea… and she did drink tea from time to time now. However she preferred lemonade which was rather simple and she had that on hand… along with quite a bit of sugar.
Once Sayha was in the kitchen, she poured herself a glass of lemonade and took a drink. After drinking pretty much an entire glass of the lemonade, she made her way back to her apothecary.

Now that Sayha was refreshed, she was ready to finish up the Anti-Poison Poultice. She went back to her work bench and looked at the licorice root. They were already cut into short lengths though Sayha would have to work with them more, turning them into a powder.
With a knife that was set aside on one of the other work benches, Sayha began to cut the roots vertically as thin as she possibly could. However because the roots were very woody, it was very difficult to cut the strips of wood as thin as she could… and she almost cut herself multiple times. After the fourth time of almost cutting herself, she gave up cutting the roots into strips and instead cut them in half then each half in half and so on. Once the blocks were cut, Sayha cut up those blocks as thin as she could before dumping the now cubed root into the mortar.
Once all the pieces of the root were in the mortar, Sayha began the lovely process of grinding them down. After a few attempts, Sayha decided to do only a portion of the root at a time. It was way too hard for her to grind it all at one time. A monk would probably have the strength to do it, but Sayha was not a monk… though she was a master of unarmed combat… but that was beside the point.
After each bunch of root was done being grinded into powder, Sayha dumped the powder into the same bowl that the grinded leaves were in. After all the root had been grinded, Sayha set the mortar and pestle aside. She put the bowl of grinded herbs in front of her and stirred them up. Once the root and leaves were mixed fairly well, Sayha took an eye dropper and began to slowly add water into the herb mixture. Once the herbs were mixed with just enough water to make a paste, Sayha knew that she was done. She grabbed one of the jars she had on the workspace and carefully dumped the paste into the jar, sealing it up once she was done. Then she checked the aloe mixture and closed the lid now that it was cooled.

Now that the poultice was done, Sayha quickly cleaned up the stems and the root that had escaped and got rid of them in her makeshift trashcan. Then, she took the bowl, mortar, and pestle and washed them up very well. Once she was done washing the, Sayha quickly dried them off and returned to her work area in the apothecary. She had figured out three more recipes which made her happy that she was improving her pharmacist skills. She had known some basic first aid and had a very general knowledge on herbalism thanks to her martial arts classes, but Sayha’s in-depth knowledge was rather limited… at least until that point.
Fletcher had helped Sayha get started on some of her recipes and helped her with basic knowledge. That had helped a lot… and it also helped Sayha get to know him more. Until then, they had only know each other through adventuring and fighting together. They hadn’t known each other on a personal level until then. The only other person she really knew on a personal level was Hiro… and she felt her heart flutter for a moment. Sayha was still getting used to the idea that she was going out with Hiro, a very close friend of hers who also happened to be her guild leader. Thinking of Hiro, Sayha made a mental note that she still needed to invite him over so he could check out her place.
Sayha shook her head. She needed to get back and focus on her next project. She had two tablet-type recipes she wanted to try out… then she had one more recipe before she went on to make potions… and potions… and a few more potions… maybe not that many potions, but still quite a few.

Once Sayha was done with the annoying leaves, she used the pestle and began to grind up the leaves. Once again, the rosemary leaves were being annoying… very annoying. Because they were needle-like they were tougher to grind up… and because of their size, it was hard to make sure that they were being ground up. After quite a few fits of annoyance and more time than Sayha thought she would need, she was done with grinding the oregano and rosemary. She moved the powder from the mortar into one of the bowls she had set aside. Once the powder was in the bowl, she took the remaining elm bark she had and broke it up into the mortar before beginning her grinding of it.
Compared to the rosemary, Sayha thought that the bark was easier… which was quite a statement for her. Once the bark was done being grinded, she dumped the bark powder in the same bowl as the herb powder. As she mixed the two powders together, she realized she needed to grind up some of the powder more… probably thanks to the rosemary. So she carefully dumped all the powder into the mortar and began to grind yet again. Once she was grinding the powder for a second time, she put the powder back into the bowl.
Once the powder was back into the bowl, Sayha added a water to the mixture a bit at a time. Once the mixture was like a dough, she began to roll the dough into tablets just as she had done before. Once she filled the tray with tablets and the dough was gone, she set the tray aside next to the other one in the sun so they could dry.
