A lanky build with light-brown skin measuring 5'6" (~168cm), short brown hair swept back, brown eyes intentionally made lifeless, and a plain facial structure were the only areas he bothered to fiddle with. His old avatar's getup by the time of the "Homesteading the Noosphere" expansion mimicked a treasure hunter from the sands: a desert hat, gold-framed orange-tinted square goggles, a cloth face mask, a red poncho, and light brown moccasins (with soles 1" thick). Underneath the poncho were a mahogany jacket and tan slacks. His hands were also protected by dark brown leather gloves. In real life, his eyes are thoughtful instead of empty, but his vision without his rectangular glasses is so poor that anything beyond his elbows may as well be a blur. That problem aside, his body is reasonably fit thanks to occasional exercise. His actual wardrobe mostly prioritizes dark colors and comfort over fashion, a stark contrast to his virtual look. At home, he walks around and sleeps in a T-shirt and pajama pants; outside, he prefers a simple business look: a red dress shirt, a dark brown leather belt around the waist area of tan slacks, and brown loafers. His confident standing posture may give off a stoic aura, but the goggles and face mask are the only things masking his expressions; this is due to the World Fraction compromising the boundary he created between his real persona and his virtual one. He is quite wary of danger lurking in even the most secure places, so he walks with a measured pace and constant vigilance. [attr="class","h3"]Personality [attr="class","b"]Influenced by his older brother's claim of possessing the soul of a writer, Zivilyn developed this skillset: -exploring possible scenarios in an existing system -empathizing with other people regardless of their histories -developing a greater appreciation for any activity once he's tried it firsthand His brother and Elder Tales are to blame for his double life until now: co-writer for his brother's various stories in the real world, and silent villain in Theldesia. To him, jeopardizing his brother's characters and jeopardizing players are one and the same, in the sense that he wants to see them triumph; a simulated world allows him to gauge how other people react to sudden consequences, after which he gathers notes to use as reference material. When confronted with a problem in reality, he gets a unique thrill in calculating an ideal outcome that benefits everyone involved; online, he would rather calculate an outcome that invites others to finish the resulting mess. Regarding other people, he is quite extroverted in reality, even breaking the ice himself if necessary; online, he is more reserved, answering requests only for sufficient reward. His impulsive attitude is a double-edged sword: he won't shy away from trying new things, but that also includes backstabbing others in online games if it can't be traced back to him. [attr="class","h3"]History [attr="class","b"]On July 30, 1993, Zivilyn Passant was born in New York City. Because of the city's increasingly stifling atmosphere affecting his parents, the family moved to a suburb in New Jersey in 1996 so that he and his older brother Josse can have a secure and pleasant childhood. His life in primary school (K-12) could be summed up as above average: he made friends with many of his classmates but didn't break his back for those who don't even want to help themselves; he earned As in his strong subjects but Cs in his weak ones; he exercised every so often when the mood struck him; and his few romantic relationships ended on amicable terms. Underneath all those accomplishments was a wanderlust sparked by his brother's original stories. Around 2005, when Zivilyn was in sixth grade, Josse asked him for help with the premise of his first work, The Confidant's Qualia. Zivilyn wrote up a quick outline for the protagonist's brother as the main antagonist that enhances the central plot through diametrically opposed ideals; this impressed his brother so much that he was made co-writer. As they compiled events to bring the story to life, Zivilyn became convinced that the antagonist gets the most exciting parts because they are required to invoke conflict. To test the strength of potential conflicts in the story, the two brothers staged open events in Elder Tales; when a player stumbled into them, they documented for later reference how that player influenced their script, then compensated them for their participation. Zivilyn first learned of the MMO on October 22, 1998; when he was still in kindergarten and Pokemon became wildly popular across the nation, he watched Josse (then a third-grader) play the Elder Tales open beta on the family computer. Zivilyn was familiar with various video games on their NES, SNES (with Super Game Boy), N64, and PS1, but that particular MMORPG appealed to him even more than his copy of Pokemon Red. Noticing Zivilyn's interest, Josse used his own account to teach his brother how to play over the following weeks, eventually getting him a subscription of his own on his sixth birthday. The computers in the town's schools and library did not have the MMO installed, so the two brothers worked out a schedule where they can play the game in turns at home. When he first started out, he tried each of the available classes for a few levels. The appeal of fighting via summons naturally led to him settling on the Summoner class for his first main avatar. His initial playstyle was a solo mix of Puppet Master + Elementalist: his first summon would tank the enemy's attacks and whittle its health down while he provided buffs, then he and his second summon would finish it off with burst damage. This changed in 2002 with the release of Skies of Arcadia Legends; the game's Zivilyn Bane clan, led by the enigmatic Lord Bane, left such an impression on him that he made a second Summoner avatar with a playstyle of fighting alongside his summons. This also led to him picking Artificer as his subclass, to reflect Lord Bane using items unique to his own game. In 2000, the Passant household gained a second computer, allowing Zivilyn and Josse to play the game together, and even in the same party. To celebrate, Josse created the Anthology guild, with himself as Guildmaster and Zivilyn as First Officer. Its main goal, as per its namesake, was the compiling of lore gathered from every item and sidequest and the documentation of every NPC's history; with later expansions' debut of other continents, the ability to travel to those continents, and especially a groundbreaking translation software, Anthology doubled down on expanding its operations. The translation software was especially interesting to the two, since they believed timely and accurate voice translation was still decades away. Now able to involve a worldwide playerbase, they expanded their staged events across the servers, and even recruited some of their more creative participants into Anthology. On December 11, 2018, Zivilyn wanted to get a headstart on the new server, mainly to ensure that no one else could create a "Zivvy" or establish an "Anthology" guild before he did and try out the new Puppeteer RP subclass. Without Artificer as a crafting subclass, Alchemist was a decent alternative in his eyes. After inputting the same values from his old model and claiming his handle, he makes his debut in the Unfounded Kingdom. Other favorite games: Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, Avalon Code, Radiant Historia, Rune Factory series Josse's first five series of web novels set in the modern day (all of which credit Zivilyn as Co-Writer) together comprise the Babel's Qualia series: The Confidant's Qualia - Two brothers are cursed by the monocle of their dying father, repeating the last twenty-four hours of people fated to die. The Anthologist's Qualia - A homeless man with no past or future comes across a monocle with the ability to access the memories of his direct ancestors. The Craftsman's Qualia - A female physicist with a fascination for the hypothesis of dark matter investigates a monocle whose ability to convert that matter is the only thing keeping her alive. The Sensejacker's Qualia - A soul jumps between other people's bodies to track down the monocle that disconnected them from their own body. The Dualist's Qualia - A collection of stories focused on various people living a literal double life, controlling both their own body and a body modeled after their ideal of the opposite sex. |

However, it remains a quite popular strategy among those who willingly sacrifice stability and defense for a little boost in DPS. It is such that Swashbucklers are primarily the class type that specializes in dual-wielding and thus has the most compatible skills for this purpose. The Ambidexterity skill passively lifts the dual-wielding penalty from equipping two one-handed weapons or two shields. This skill does nothing for a Swashbuckler, since they already possess a beginner skill which does the same purpose. [attr="class","skill"]Summon Follower - Sylph: Fairy-type Wind elemental follower. Sylph is a small fairy-like creature that looks like a jolly girl. She is able to attack with a magical wind that knocks back enemies. She can summon a healing breeze that heals allies for a minor amount and removes a debuff. She is Friendly to her Summoner and Wary toward all enemies. This follower takes 2 seconds of cast time to summon. [attr="class","skill"]Eye in the Sky: This skill may be used only when the Summoner currently has a Wind-attribute or Bird-type Follower active. The Summoner links their eyesight with that of the Wind-attribute or Bird-type Follower, causing one of the user's eyes to see everything happening right in front of them and the other eye to see what their Follower is seeing. Closing one of the eyes will block out the respective signals, allowing the Summoner to concentrate on one view at a time. This skill allows for the Summoner to fulfill a reconnaissance role, although the initial effect of having double vision will likely be extremely jarring on the user at first. This also effectively leaves the Summoner and the Follower with a blind spot on one side, so careful coordination should be taken so that an enemy doesn't take advantage of this condition. This skill has a casting time of 5 seconds, a duration of up to 5 minutes, and a cooldown of 10 minutes. [attr="class","skill"]Transmutation: Alchemists are naturally aligned with the power of magical equipment, able to use the Adventurer skill [Equipment Mastery: Magical] as a Beginner-level skill without having it take up a skill slot. Their research also gives them an advantage in fighting Artificial Life to deal an additional 10% damage. If [Equipment Mastery: Magical] is already learned through racial or class bonuses, Magitech damage increases by 10%. [attr="class","skill"]Act One - Exposition: This skill passively allows the character to use a Control Bar and Puppet in battle at the cost of an off-hand equip. Control bars count as one-handed equips, but can be used two-handed. A puppet may be controlled with one hand but its attack speed will be reduced by 50%. When determining the level of Puppets and Control Bars that the Puppeteer may equip, they may use their Puppeteer level in place of their Main Class Level if it is higher. The Puppet's item level is capped at 10 levels above that of the Puppeteer's main class, regardless of their Puppeteer level. Its active effect allows the Puppeteer to send the puppet forward and grab the target. This results in a movement bind status effect. The amount of time it takes for an enemy to break free in seconds is equal to the level difference between the Puppeteer's main or roleplay class (whichever is higher) versus the target's main class, divided by 10. If the difference is less than 5 or is negative, the break time becomes 0.5 seconds. This skill goes into cooldown for 5 seconds after a target breaks free. [attr="class","h3"]Equipment [attr="class","b2"] [attr="class","skill"]Armor - Starter Cloth Armor: A basic set of cloth armor made from cheap fabric. They are not really protective, but they are better than going naked—probably. You probably do want to replace these asap, when you think about it. [attr="class","skill"]Left Hand - Apprentice Grimoire: A one-handed apprentice’s book of spells designed for novice mages, made out of cheap materials. Doesn’t particularly have too many pages, but it is better than nothing. If used by a magic class, you get the ability to shoot a basic magic attack with a range of 2 meters. [attr="class","skill"]Right Hand - Starter Kunai: A starter weapon designed for novice adventurers, made out of cheap iron. It doesn't have much of a blade, but possesses a passably sharp point. This weapon is attached to about 10 feet worth of rope, allowing it to work as a temporary ranged weapon if necessary. Just be careful not to lose it in the process, else you'll have to spend some time retrieving it. As far as weapon categories go, this starter weapon counts as a one-handed dagger rather than a throwing weapon. [attr="class","skill"]Accessory#1: - [attr="class","skill"]Accessory#2: - [attr="class","skill"]Accessory#3: - [attr="class","skill"]Accessory#4: - [attr="class","h3"]Inventory [attr="class","b2"]Starter Wooden Pierrot & Control Bar: A control bar resembling two blocks of wood stuck together and attached to springs. They connect to an old three-foot-high puppet given to novice puppeteers, made out of cheap wood. It is easy to use but is really cheap and a bit decrepit. You probably should find yourself a new puppet. |
