| The Marshlands of the river Thames. A one beautiful piece of England's glorious landscape was now but a marsh inhabited by the dead and decrepit. The scenery was in stark contrast to that of the verdant trees and flower groves of the Windsor Greatwood, to which Blue had become accustomed to. So why would the bard come to such a desolate place? Well the reason was simple enough. She simply wanted to know about it. The Novasphere update had changed everything about Eldertale, so of course she wanted to know what the difference was between now and then. Would there be new creatures to fight? to study? new treasures to acquire? Ooooohh, the Pinkette was indeed curious. She prayed that her little expedition would prove worthwhile. After all, what would be the point of an adventure if she didn't find anything new?
The bard stepped lively, moving with quick feet along the beaten path and sidestepping the wet and unstable ground of the marshes. Occasionally Blue would walk off the path, her attention caught by what appeared to be new. Sometimes it was new, but oft times it was something which had faded from her memory. The marshlands were of a different layout, but the flora and fauna were more or less the same as they had always been. It was disheartening in a way. Blue had expected more in the earlier areas. Or hoped anyhow. It was true, most expansions were made for higher level players while content remained mostly the same for starters, but Blue wanted to see new content that was promised for low level players in the Novasphere expansion.
"I suppose there's no use complaining. I'm in such an almost impossible situation to begin with, I shouldn't be picky."
Blue mused to herself quietly, tapping a gentle finger on her chin while humming a quiet show tune that only she could hear. There was not a single sound but the chirping of birds and trees to interrupt her. That was until the Weasel nation attacked. There was a quiet rustling, unexpected and unseen by Blue. The bard kept humming to herself, lost in the reverie of Elder Tale before it had become what it was. That was when the first shot was fired,
Vines shot from the ground, one of the thorny tendrils catching Blue's arm and pulling her down to the ground. The pinkette cringed as the the thorns cut into her flesh and nipped at her HP slowly. Blue recognized this immediately. The control of plant elementals was attributed almost always to the Brier Weasels of the old Elder Tale, but what were they doing in the marshlands? The Weasels were always found in the deeper parts of the Windsor Greatwood. Could it have been the rumored anomaly returning adventurers had spoken of.
Blue didn't think about it. Instead, the bard reached for her sword with her free hand, drawing it and swiftly cutting away the vine which restricted her. By then, it was already far too late though. In a circle around her were small demonic red eyes, all staring at her from beneath the brush. Blue counted one, two... five within the immediate brush, but there were more further back, waiting silently for their target to falter. The bard's eyes narrowed, and her her thoughts became cold, precise and calculated. If she wanted to escape this situation without a trip to the monastery, she needed to think smart and quickly. |

| In Blue's head, the headcount was constantly being reiterated. Five weasels in her immediate area with multiple others waiting to replace them. It was far from an ideal situation, but Blue only needed to cut enough to squeeze her way out of it. The weasels had numbers, but they weren't smarter than her. If she could just make a break for the nearest safe zone, all would be well. That is if she could. For now, she needed to gauge her enemies abilities and calculate just how she was going to cut a path out of the ambush. The nearest weasel was the one which had tried to bind her. It growled ferociously, stepping near her with a hiss. Memories of previous fights flooded Blue's vision, and the all important tell was revealed to her. The Briar weasel had telegraphed it's ranged attack, an excellent time to hit it where it hurts.
"I've got you!"
With that exclamation, the weasel fired a red beam of energy from it's glowing vine tail, an easily dodged attack for one as agile as Blue the Bard. The pinkette pivoted on her heel, turning to the side and letting the beam pass right by her before taking blade in hand and thrusting forward towards the beast. The tip of the blade punctured the weasels side and caused it to howl in pain. With a hiss, the weasel jumped back, only to jump forward and swipe at her with one of it's companions following after. Blue was able to dodge the first attack with ease but a wild claw would rake across her back afterwards. Another cringe of pain from the pinkette. She hated fighting solo, but was prepared for it in the end.
While the beasts attempted to reform themselves, Blue took the advantage to equip her instrument. The best way to handle this situation was to take them out one by one with her best attacks. Bard's weren't known for their stellar combat stats, but that was widely eclipsed by their ability to buff themselves and those around them with but a quick tune. So to start off Blue's little concert, she needed to pacify the audience. The best move for that was naturally her pacifying dance, a skill which she could chain with two other skills. Blue began to mover her body rhythmically, swaying to an imaginary beat as she began to blow into her Irish flute. The weasels, confused at first but then allured by Blue's dance, began to lose their hostility, but only for a moment. Meanwhile, Blue's song created a resonance in the blade at her hip, causing it to vibrate to her song like a tuning fork. With those moves made, Blue took advantage of their complacency by changing the theme of the dance and thus the effect. Her moves became quick and erratic and soon she switched out her flute for her blade, twirling around quickly. Speed Sword Etude, Blue's favorite skill to use in combat. Her evasion stat had now been buffed, making her an even harder target for the weasels to hit.
Blue's Pacifying dance was now losing it's effect on the weasels, and soon they reverted back to their snarling and aggressive forms. By then, it had already been too late. Blue was now on one of the beasts like a spider on a fly. Her resonating sword cut through one of the beasts and caused a shockwave where her attack had landed. The weasel howled in pain, but was unable to dodge in time for Blue's follow up attack. Her blade cut through yet again and activated the resonance beat effect, causing a vibrating explosion which pushed everything around the creature back and killed it easily.
"There's the chorus for you... next verse then, shall we?" |
