Meditating. It was the one thing that Sayha still struggled with even though she (attempted) to do it every morning. Supposedly, meditating would clear her mind and help sharpen her focus. That, however, was one thing that it did not do for her, especially as of late. Even back on the other side, meditation was something she was supposed to do but never did. Then again, it would never calm her back then. Now that she was on her own in a different world, one would think it would help. But no, it didn’t. It also didn’t help that something plagued her mind from the previous night.
So instead of meditating that day, Sayha opted to go through some movements and stretches that actually did calm her and cleared her mind. She was in the center of her dojo, also known as her gym, without any shoes on. She had her legs separated and her arms in front of her, palms facing outwards. She leaned forward, making the palms of her hands touch the floor completely. After a few seconds, she moved so that her hands grasped her left ankle and then her right. Once that was done, she leaned back and stretched her hands above her head as far as they could go. Then she let her arms fall to the side.
After a moment she put her left arm across her chest with her left hand on her upper arm just above the elbow. She pulled her left arm across her body, her upper body turning slightly to the left. After holding for a few seconds, she did the same with her right arm. Once both arms had been pulled, she put both of her hands behind her back, grasping them together, and pulled them upwards while keeping her arms straight. As she did that, she leaned forward.
Normally, she would have done a few more upper body stretches as well as some lower body ones. Also normally, she would do some exercises on her training dummy and some with her swords. Today, though, she was going to break her routine… which would be a nice change of pace. After the recent Oni infestation, Sayha had been kind of on the edge as she made her way through the forest. Not seeing her boyfriend didn’t help much either. Sayha knew that he was busy and all, but it didn’t make it any easier.
Honestly, Sayha was starting to think her secluding herself in the forest was starting to get to her. She had a large home; much larger than she really needed. However, it had everything that she ever needed… except for people. Then again, there were only a few people Sayha was close to. Hiro, her boyfriend, being one of them. Dorian, another resident of Moon Dance Forest, was another. Fletcher had been on her list for a long time, but he had gotten caught up in some sort of work or something because she hadn’t seen him around in a while. Finally, Saiph was on her list, though she wasn’t particularly close to him. Of course she knew more than just four people. The heretic Noctis, the shaman Marashi, the enchantress Capsule… but she didn’t find herself befriending them… Well, maybe that wasn’t entirely true. She considered Noctis a friend, but she wasn’t exactly close to him, like Saiph. Saiph had his own purpose on her friend’s list, and it wasn’t because he was a friend.
Just the thought of heretics, even a friendly one, made what she was trying to ignore come to the forefront of her mind. The strange thing was that it wasn’t even heretics that were bothering her. It was the dream she had the previous night that was bothering her.
In her dream, she was a little kid, and her mother was still alive. Or at least she thought it was her mother. The faces of everyone else she saw were black, as if they were blurred out. The people who she assumed were her parents were taking her on a shopping trip of sorts. They entered a store where there were nothing but mirrors. Sayha had gone and looked in each of the mirrors, looking at herself when she as younger. Just then, she saw black figures in the mirrors. However, it just wasn’t black figures. Where the eyes would have been were white and where the heart was an empty circle like there was no reflection. Little Sayha turned to see that it was one of her assumed parents figures. The face was still blurry, but in the middle of their chest was something that looked like a black hole. Scared, the Little Sayha turned and ran away from the figure, down a hallway of mirrors. The hallway just kept going and going and going. However, it suddenly came to an abrupt start with a large mirror. Looking back at Little Sayha was her silhouette with an empty hole in her chest. At that point, she had woken up to find a concerned Yuki looking at her.
Yuki was still nearby even now though not like right next to Sayha. At the moment, she was somewhere in another part of the house, and Sayha had a pretty good feeling that Yuki was in her Meditation Room. The Meditation Room seemed to be Yuki’s favorite area since Sayha always had the incense burner going. Right now, the smell of the choice was cherry blossoms, or sakura. Last time it was plum and the time before that was peach. Yuki seemed to like the sakura the best, and Sayha had a good idea why. If Sayha had to guess, it was because of the Great Sakura Tree in the center of Moon Dance Village. The Great Tree housed the Sakura Spirit, the guardian of sorts for the forest. When she first came to the village, Elder Yamamoto had told her the story of how the Sakura Spirit had come to be. That was also when Sayha learned that everything was connected. Funnily enough, it still held true.
