I can understand that you don't want a sculptor to be making a cart for example, but not everything that the cross class recipes allowed was so extreme. Examples like musical instruments, wooden housing items (sculptures/fittings/painting frames), and a blackboard could just as easily come from an artisan as a woodcrafter.
(As an aside, I'm not trying to be self centered regarding this, I just don't know enough about any of the other crafting subclasses to actually say anything constructive about them)
Also, I didn't get an answer about how this will effect discovering new recipes, will we still be able to do that?
Another query, will the lists here have things added from the old crafting lists? Because I noticed a fair few things that are missing that were once part of the crafting lists.

Could you clarify what you mean by "effect discovering new recipies"?
To answer your question about old things being removed, the new lists appear to be incomplete, judging from the lack of armor and weapons. So while it's possible some things are gonna get removed, I wouldn't assume they will be because they aren't there at the moment. This is probably still just a WIP.

I meant 'will this change how learning new recipes work'. And I know that it's WIP, I was just curious if that meant new recipes were going to be added, or old ones ported over.
A thought and a suggestion. I've noticed that Brewer and Chef seem to have been merged into one class. Would it not be possible to merge artisan and woodworker in the same way? It feels to me that there's enough crossover between the two that it's reasonable.

I agree with Eleri's suggestion of merging the two classes. Artisan on it's own doesn't have much in the way of useful recipes, and considering how restrictive the concept is without cross-classing, it's unlikely it's going to get much more development via new recipes unless you combine the concepts.
Considering how few people actually bother with leveling their crafting skills, a smaller number of crafting classes would probably be for the best anyways.

We considered merging them but didn't want to remove too many choices and felt we could still make Artisan unique enough to stand alone, as similar as they are, they are also pretty different. I definitely remember discussing it, though.
Cross crafting was removed because each class should be unique and stand on its own. Part of selecting one class is that you didn't select another, it's making a choice.
In regards to the recipes listed - aside from needing to add back in recipes for weapon/armor creation, the list is complete and is not a WIP. Many recipes were removed or combined as they were duplicates of each other, didn't make sense anymore or simply never made sense at all. Several new recipes were added, as well, however.
New recipes can still be discovered, that has not changed and I don't see any reason to think that it would be any different.

At the moment though I feel like Artisan has definitely taken a hit in not only versatility but being an interesting class. I don't suppose it would be possible to just port over to another class when this goes live if I decide it's no longer for me would it? I'd rather not have to start all over again if I do decide it doesn't fit anymore.
In regards to recipes, why have recipes like pottery, normal painting and sculpture been removed?
