Character Registration
there is always a first step to an adventure
So, you want to make a character eh? Well, let's get you started then. If you are serious about joining this board then this is probably your final stop before you get working on your character. Before you start, make sure you've checked in on the Guidebook and the Encyclopedia! If you haven't then please go do so!
Once you have, let's get started. I will guide you through the basic steps on creating a character and will provide as much information about the process as possible along the way. At the end, I will also have a video showing you how to correctly set up the template that you'll be required to use, while also answering some questions about the template. As always, if you have any questions make sure you contact the Staff right away!
- Step 1 -- Know your Character, or have an idea.
The most basic step is to have a basic character idea in mind. Before you even consider classes and weapons, you want to know who you're going to be playing. Once you have an idea, move forward. - Step 2 A -- Start their Personality and Biography (Light Writing)
Once you have a Character Idea in mind, put some of it into words. Write down who they are, how they act, and where they've come from. Don't flesh it out yet, but give yourself enough to work with when you go to pick a Face Claim. It's not very important to pin these pieces to a face claim, but you may find yourself picking a claim based off who they are, or visa versa. Thus, while you're doing this step, you also want to check into Face Claims. - Step 2 B -- Face Claim
As previously mentioned, sometimes you may find yourself basing your character off how they look in an image. If they look mean, they might be a "bad guy" or a villain-like character and the same goes for if they look nice. If you are the type of person to prefer this method of character creation, then find your Face Claim before you start writing who they are. - Step 3 -- Generate Character Details
Come up with the basic details about your character, now. Using your Face Claim, create their appearance or come up with some basic ideas on what you want them to look like. Answer simple questions like age, gender, sexuality (if important), strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes, and you may also want to come up with more points about who they are as a person. By laying out this foundation, you'll set yourself up for a more indepth Biography/History. - Step 4 A -- Choose where you want to start. Personality, or Biography/History? (Heavy Writing)
When you have your face claim and your small details about your character, as well as a premise, now you want to get into the core of who your character is. Some people choose to do the Personality first while others choose the Biography. Both have their benefits. If you start with the Personality, you already have an idea of why they are who they are or you at least have an end result so you simply have to write about how they've become who they are. On the other hand, if you start with the Biography, you'll know exactly who your character is so you can fill in the Personality section much more easily. - Step 4 B -- Fill out the next portion of the template, whether it is Personality or Biography/History
- Step 5 -- Select your Classes and Skills
Now, some of you may actually know what classes you want to play and will base your character around those classes. But if you follow these steps, you can actually pick classes based on your character and sometimes it works a bit better this way. In my experience, I have tended to at least have an idea of what classes I want the character to be before I do anything. Once I have the profile filled out and his personality created, then it's more definite of what they're going to end up being. - Step 6 -- Select your Armor and Weapons
Finally, based on your Character Personality, Class, and your Skill Setup, pick your armor and your weapons. These will be what you use to defend yourself and defeat enemies in the world of Elder Tale. Each Class has its own restrictions on weapons so make sure you check what they are when you make your decision!
FAQ
- Am I allowed to use Original Face Claims?
You may use an Original FC. Your tag for it would be; (Original, Artist Name, link). The link provided must be a link to the Author's Original Art page. If there is no page available, omit this portion. If you can find it or if it is required by the Artist, please include this in your profile. - What size should my Avatar be?
As shown below with the Place Market, your Avatar for your character should be 100x100 so that it fits in the box. You may post a larger image in the Appearance Section. For those with Original FCs, you are required to include a Full-Body Image in the Appearance Section. - Can I Face Claim a character that is already Claimed?
Yes. There is no limit to how many people can claim a specific character. You may also claim Original FCs as well. However, you may not claim an Original FC that was drawn or commissioned by the Member using it. - How many Skills do I get when I start?
When you start, you get to pick 3 Main Class Skills and you grab the Level 1 Skill from the two Subclasses you pick. These Skill Lists can be found in the Guidebook and links to the threads are provided to you via the Taskbar at the top of the webpage. - How do I choose my Starter Gear?
Based on your chosen Main Class, you will have certain weapons available to you. You may find the weapon list for Starter Gear here; [Gear List] - Is there a limit to how many Characters I can have?
No. You can have as many Characters as you wish to have. However the more you have, the more difficult it can be to keep up with them, so be wary if you decide to have five or more characters. - If I get approved but have second thoughts about my character, can I make any changes?
Yes, but under two conditions.
First: The changes cannot be drastic. You are not allowed to adjust a huge portion of your profile after it is approved or you will have to be approved again.
Second: You cannot have made more than three posts with it IC and you cannot have completed a Quest. - My template is broken. What do I do?
If you end up breaking your template some how or it comes out wrong, contact Azoth immediately.
Restrictions
When creating a character, there are some restrictions that I want to make note of when it comes to selecting your Classes and setting up your character. These are mainly focused around creating a more "MMO" sense in the world while also nudging players to become a bit better at what they do; play games. I won't ramble on, but below are things that must be understood while you get set up.

- Heretic and Warden classes are unavailable in the beginning when you start. You must unlock their classes after completing a Questline.
Template
Below is a general copy and color scheme of the new template. Each set of classes has a different template scheme so depending on which class you choose, you will select a template from the list below. As of this moment, the templates are incomplete. However, I will be going back through to edit profiles and make the final adjustments once the graphics are finished (10/7/2016).

Step 1: Depending on your Class, select a pastebin link below and copy the code from the new page. The easiest way is to scroll to the bottom and copy the contents of the "Raw Paste Data" box.
Step 2: Proceed to the Character Registration Board and select the option to "Create a New Thread". Do Not Paste the Code yet.
Step 3: Select BBCode at the bottom of the text box.
Step 4: Once the box switches, which it may or may not do so quickly, paste the code into the text box.
Step 5: Remain in the BBCode side of the Text Box and fill in the spaces as necessary. If you have issues, you may switch to the Preview portion. However, do understand that the template will not appear in the Preview box. Do not be alarmed. It will work when you post your content.
