Quest Procedures
let the tales begin
With the main source of your Leveling Income being Quests, it is very important that there is a strong set of guidelines for Players to follow. These guidelines will aid in helping you understand what happens when you take a quest, how you take a quest, and what happens when you're finished. It is a bit complicated, to an extent, but ultimately it isn't really all that bad. Just pay attention to what you're doing and keep the Staff informed of things as you go along. When you have a problem or if you have questions, feel free to message the Staff. Do so sooner rather than later as your rewards are on the line.
Quests are generated mainly in order to give players something to do in their general lives. Low Level Quests are generally very simple, single-objective quests just to allowed players to build up a reputation with certain NPCs. As you build that REP, more quests are unlocked and you are able to do more. At the same time, your level will be increasing too. This dual-increase allows you to steadily work your way through the game of Elder Tale with relatively no issues. However, how you build your character through these levels is left up to you. Quests are mainly for leveling your classes but they are not the only things that can grow your character. There will be Events, Quest Chains, Dungeons, Raids, and other things that will give you experience that you can put towards your classes.
Quests will also provide a good source of gold income and materials, but of course as mentioned Quests tend to have other objectives rather that gathering materials. These tend to be focused less on benefiting the Player Socially and more on appeasing the quest giver and fixing some kind of problem. By fixing this problem you can build a relationship or establish a name for yourself, but who wants to be known as "the guy who always kills the annoying wolves"? Some of you may want that but for those of you that don't be aware that Quests won't help in that aspect. Balance your Questing with Social/Training Quests to build the best reputation for yourself.
Base Information
A majority of basic quests will be created by the Staff. The provided quests will be simple, quick, and allow you to gain a steady amount of tickets, gold, and materials for crafting. They will give you a good amount of REP for certain NPCs and as you progress, more quests will become available to you. These quests don't always allow for the greatest amount of Character Development but they are able to be "farmed" in a sense. NPCs like shop keepers are always in need of materials, so feel free to fetch a lot of these.
Players are also able to create their own Quests. You may also start a thread and then post up that it is a quest later or after you are finished, just as long as you notify the Staff Team that something is being conducted in the thread. Threads created by Players tend to have similar rewards to Staff generated quests but you know what benefits your character, so they tend to have greater Character Development rewards. These types of quests may also reward you with more REP, as they may be more unique to the NPCs. However other rewards, like quest tickets, gold, and materials, will all be similar to Staff generated quests. Every quest can be categorized and even if you have objectives from multiple categories, the Staff will streamline it. This is to prevent abuse of the system, so keep this in mind. Those found to be abusing the system or attempting to do so will find their rewards steadily getting worse in terms of crappier materials and smaller gold amounts.
But don't let this deter you. Those found to be seeking out a good form of character development will not be punished. But, how is that possible to know the difference? Well, to be honest it's actually quite obvious. If someone lumps in a bunch of objectives for no apparent reason that raises a red flag. But if someone in the Quest gives reason to some things and is seen actually building on their character, that is something different.
Some things to note about Quest Generation;
- Quests will be generated randomly and at various intervals. Staff will be adding them to the database when they are prepared but players may not be notified everytime a quest is added, so keep an eye on the quest board or check for new ones every so often.
- Some Quests may be timed and may need to be completed quickly, so make sure you read the objectives and requirements.
- Some Quests will also only be open for certain periods of time. If the time is available for only three days, you have three days to sign up but you will have more time to complete it.
- Chain Quests will reward a player upon completion of the entire chain. If you fail to finish or drop the chain, you will be rewarded for only a portion of your work.
- If a Quest is abandoned by players, you will be give a portion of the rewards based on how far you have gone in the quest.
Quest Generation
When Quests are made, they are created with three things in mind; how the quest melds to the NPC giving it, what kinds of rewards are expected to be given to the player upon a successful completion, and how the adventurer is expected to grow during the quest. All Quests generated by the staff have these three points in their foundations. When you are creating a quest as a player, you should also think about them before you submit your proposal. The reason for this is because the rewards that the Staff Team assigns to the quest will be in response to the expected amount of growth a character would get from doing the quest, as well as how it will affect the NPC giving it. When you start a quest without the proposal, the staff won't give you rewards based on the proposal but instead based on the thread itself. This could hurt your rewards should your thread show a less amount of growth and influence than the proposal shows.
If a Quest is found to have too much tied together, you will be asked to break it down or create a Chain Quest. For individual plot line quests, you are asked to send a message to the Staff team directly so that we will be kept in the loop with what you plan to do with your character and what you will need in terms of RP Quests. The goal is not to smother you all and force you all to play with only Staff Generated Quests. The goal is to create a setup where players can do as they please and get rewarded for it in a manner that is fair to everyone. Understand that it is the Staff Team's job to ensure everyone has fun and to keep things fair. Any attempts to skirt the rules and/or get an edge will be handled immediately and players will be reprimanded.
** Do be aware that you are taking a risk if you decide to make your own quest and RP it out before applying for its approval by the Staff. Should your quest actually fail to be approved, even after it has been completed by you and others, you will not be given any rewards at all and your entire thread will be archived. You may plead your case if you wish, but once your thread is archived you will have to start over. **
Applying for a Quest
Applying to take on a Quest is easy and very simple. All you need to do is create a thread in the Quest Board and state your intentions to perform a quest. A Staff Member will check to make sure you meet the requirements of the quest and if you do, they will approve you. Once you are approved, you may do the quest. If you have additional members participating in the quest, you must tag them in your post and they must all post in order to confirm that they wish to join the quest. Once it is finished, you will respond to the thread in the "Accepted" board and await further instruction. If you are denied access to a quest for some reason, it will be explained to you by the Staff Member who denies your request. If you have any questions, you are to PM the Staff as your request will be locked.
* Once a Quest Thread is accepted, no more players are allowed to join in the Quest. Make sure everyone who wishes to go on the quest has applied before it is approved. Should this be an issue, Quests Applications will be locked once they are approved. *
Turning in Abandoned Quests
We all know that things happen and there are a lot of times where a Quest remains unfinished. People either leave the site, lose interest, or just forget about the thread entirely (among other reasons). However, we aren't going to simply let you put your effort to waste. In order to pay you back for the time you put in, we do allow quests to be turned in even if they are incomplete. The downside is that you will only get a fraction of your rewards. So do keep this in mind when selecting who you party up with, what quests you take, and for what reasons you are taking the quest.
As of January 20th, 2017, a new method of turning in quests has been made. Please see the Redemption Center for this information.
Do keep in mind that if a fellow player goes inactive in your thread, or if you entire party goes inactive, you are able to continue the thread on your own and you are able to complete it and turn it in as a solo for full rewards, just as long as you can do it by your lonesome. If the other players have gone inactive and have been archived, feel free to NPC their characters to the best of your ability or replace them entirely with NPCs. They are the ones who left, not you. The only suggestion is to not do this with Raid or Expeditionary quests, for obvious reasons.
