Potion/Recovery Items |
There are two types of consumables which either give recovery effects or status effects depending on their chemical makeup and potency; Potions and Consumables. Potions Potions are liquid based recovery items. They tend to be contained in some kind of vial and their effects are distinguished by their color. The darkness of the color determines potency and their effects are generally very simple and straightforward. Potions rarely have hidden or extra effects aside from what is explicitly stated in the flavor text. Potions which do have additional effects cannot be researched and are only given out by Staff during Raids and/or Site Events. These items are also only crafted by two classes; Pharmacists and Brewers. Alchemists are not able to craft potions. Potions can be found via drops at lower levels and are able to be reverse engineered at later crafting levels through proper processes. Potions tend to have higher potency than Consumables and recover energy and statuses much quicker, but they do not have longevity. Use Potions if you need an immediate fix to basic Debuffs and Damage when you do not have time for a meal. Consumables Items which must be eaten are considered Consumables. These types of items are generally in the form of edible food or pills. They are not liquid. These items must be crafted by a Chef or Pharmacist or purchased from an NPC Chef or Pharmacist. They are not found in the wild or through drops. However, the raw materials for these types of consumables are common especially when hunting. Consumable items are mainly for long-term recovery and tend to have effects that work over a long period of time. For example if you sustain [Curse] status effects or [Burn] effects, Consumables will aid in healing your character at a much more efficient rate than Potions. Potions may reduce the debuff's strength, but a Consumable will remove it completely. Do not attempt to use a consumable in combat unless it is a pill. Eating a meal in the middle of a fight isn't a great idea as the smell may attract unwanted attention. Consumables have their base effects and, in later stages, may have secret hidden effects. In order to find out the specifics of the effects, research must be conducted. |
Crafting Materials |
Scattered throughout the world of Elder Tale are hundreds of materials that players can use to conduct research or craft items with. These materials can be found either through monster drops or by actually gathering the materials themselves. Players may also breakdown gear and recover some materials from items that are broken down. However this manner is not efficient as you only get a portion of the materials used to create the item itself. But, it may be a good way to get certain high quality materials in a pinch. Materials are broken down based on the classes that can use them. If a Material is able to be used by multiple classes, there will be a separate category for that kind of material. |
Vanity Gear/Items |
In Elder Tale, there is a wide range of armor and equipment that is available to the player to aid them in their travels. However there are some items and drops that are made simply to give flavor to the Adventures that the player goes on. These items are considered "Vanity" types. There are two types; Vanity Gear, and Vanity Items. The only difference is the type of effects the items give as well as whether or not they have any actual use. Sometimes the Vanity is there just for looks. Other times the Gear/Item may give the player a boost of some kind. Vanity Gear Vanity Gear are items from the Vanity type that can be equipped. These types of items mostly tend to be some kind of clothing or costume, however there are other items that can be equipped as well. Weapon Skins and Vanity Accessories are a two examples. Vanity Gear items generally have appearance based effects and allow the player to take up a certain look that is different than just their standard armor or clothes. Through this, the Equips are able to give a certain flare to armor and weapons, such as a different color scheme or just a different look in general by changing the actual style of the piece of equipment while also keeping the base effects. There are certain sets of Gear that are available through Raids and/or Site Events. These Sets generally have different effects available and these effects are usually visual and will normally not give any boost effects to the player. Vanity Items In addition to Vanity Gear, there are basic Vanity Items that are available through either drops or crafting. These items tend to not be equipable but can be pulled out of the inventory and carried around by the Adventurer to serve some kind of appearance purpose. These items can be worn or held or can even summon forth mounts. Vanity Items work similarly to Accessories in the sense that they may provide effects to aid the player in their adventures, but these effects are limited. By simply having a Vanity Item in your inventory it can give you certain boosts or effects that can change how NPCs view you and interact with you. The item may also change how monsters view you, what kinds of drops you can get, and they may even give you basic status buffs as well. However Vanity Items that give these effects are usually only given out by Staff Members through Raids and/or Site Events. Vanity Mounts fall under this category. A Vanity Mount is a type of monster or animal that is summoned through the use of a Whistle or other summoning tool. Vanity Mounts are exactly as they sound; Mounts used to aid the Adventurer with traveling across the land and allow them to search farther and wider than they normally would be able to on food. Players are able to teach certain Vanity Monsters certain things through training and practice, much like Pets in the real world. Most Vanity Mounts do not aid in combat and are used only for travel, however there are some that can be summoned forth to give slight help should the player be attacked during transit. These types of mounts tend to come with one or two skills and have a set level to them. They are not as effective as a normal summon or a Tamed beast, but if used well they can increase the pace of the battle. Generally if a Combat Mount is defeated, they are unavailable for the rest of the thread so keep that in mind. |
Equipment Items |
The most basic of items in any RPG are Weapons and Armor. These items are fully equipable by Adventurers/Players and are the core items behind their ability to defend themselves and/or do damage to their enemies. There is a wide variety of both and the items tend to have a huge range of effects, flavor texts, and appearances. At their core, however, these items are generated solely for the purpose of offense or defense. Weapons and Armor can be find in the wild, can be crafted, can be researched, and can be purchased at NPC shops. Out of all the items, these two are found in the widest range of places and can be fully customized to suit the player. They have effects directed towards combat and aid the player by either increasing damage, increasing skill effectiveness, increasing recovery, or by increasing resistance to certain debuffs. Although, Equipment items are not limited to just Weapons and Armor. Accessories are also included in this category. Accessories generally are not able to aid in defense or offense directly but they give boosts and buffs to the player to increase stats and help indirectly. Accessories can be found as drops, purchased, or crafted and their effects may be researched. These items also sell for a hefty price on the market if they are found with good effects so if you need money, becoming an Accessory Crafter or Hunter may two professions you could look into. Unlike other items, the flavor text of Equipment has meaning and may be worth looking into should you find something interesting. Staff generated Equipment may have odd effects that, if researched, could lead a player to certain quest lines and/or rewards. Wearing specific pieces of Equipment may also affect how NPCs interact with you, so be careful the next time you put on some bloody piece of gear that you picked up off some dead boss. |
