As I grade more and more posts, I will be updating this 'common issues' thread. Any of the below should be paid very, very close attention to when making your characters. If you miss these still when I go to grade, I will be disappointed but I won't be mad at you as everybody makes mistakes.
1. Formatting
Please, for the love of the forest do not, I repeat, do not edit your character template in Preview mode. If you do, I will be forced to send it back to the WIP area for fixing. If you think you did so and can get away with it, trust me. You won't. It is ungodly blatantly obvious as it creates an ungodly amount of double spaces. If you see pieces of your thread look out of place, take a look at a few other of the already approved characters so you can see what it is supposed to look like. Also, your thread name should be [Class Name] Character Name.
2. In-Game Name
Your character application needs to have the same 'In-game name' as your profile name. You can easily change your profile name to your characters name as well to make both match. You just can't have two names being displayed for your character. (This doesn't stop you from giving out your characters real name).
3. Biography
Even though our template does say that any amount of words is fine... if I don't see that you actually put a little bit of effort into it I won't approve it. In fact, I'll tell you once and demote you to last place for grading rather than going by length of post.
4. Equipment
You need the equipment to be listed properly. Be careful of your formatting and where you place your text within the [div.] and [/div.] (without the .'s) as if placed outside will create a massive gap between the items name and the description. Also, be sure to check the Starting Items thread in the Guidebook (should be the last thread in the list). It has all the starting equipment you can choose from in the character app. If you have a two handed weapon, just put the item in your main hand and have your off hand labeled as Empty.
5. Abilities
You don't need to mark down the beginner skills, and marking down all of them will force me to tell you to remove them as they are skills that everyone innately has. You can have one or two Beginner skills listed to keep track of them, but seriously; you don't need Auto Attack in your list of skills. (And if you do have Auto Attack in your ability list as a beginner skill, I won't even read the rest of your app let alone grade it. I'll just throw in the WIP bin no matter how good it is or who you are. That means you too Azoth .)
6. Read the Guidebook. Please. If you have any questions, they are more than likely answered in the Guidebook. If you come across any questions you have that are not answered by the Guidebook, well we have a question thread you can post in.
Alright, that's it for the common issues I have come across when grading threads so far.
As I noticed people have asked when approvals happen and mentions of waiting for the approval fairy... I'll go ahead and make my approval timeframes public.
Periodically throughout the week I do look at the Character Registration board, and often times I approve the really well done posts that have no problems. I rarely have time during Monday-Friday to actually make corrections so if your thread is perfect with very minor errors (ones that we can overlook) I will approve you as soon as I notice it during the weekdays. Otherwise, I will be dedicating a portion of my Saturday to approving threads and grading them; around 3-4 hours in total, unless we have no applications to grade.
This post will be updated as I come across more and more common issues.
