"Any treasure you obtain without ever having to work for it is no treasure at all."
|
It was a surprisingly clear day and Jacoben had decided to remove himself from his workshop and do some crafting out in the wilds. After all, it was important that an artist had inspiration when undertaking their work, and what served as better inspiration for painting than the wonders of nature itself? He had with him his box of paints, an easel and some canvasses and he was looking for a place that he could sit down and capture a nice image of the environment. Wandering into the Greatwood the young Foxtail went seeking a good location to serve as his inspiration for a decent painting, preferably one with water and some nice looking trees that he could paint.
Perhaps it would have been easier if he had gone to a place less dangerous to do his painting, after all he was planning to go quite deep into the Greatwood in search of his perfect location and it would take him rather far from the relative safety of Londinium. Despite this however he was rather confident that not only could he take care of himself, but that the chances of him being found in some random, out of the way, piece of the forest was practically nil. Adventurers tended to go to locations that would benefit them in some way, whether it was hunting for particular monsters or searching for rare items, and Jacoben was not planning on going anywhere that had anything of interest beyond the scenery.
And even if he did encounter someone hostile, he was fairly confident he could at least manage to get away if there was trouble. He might have only been a mid-level adventurer but he wasn't exactly a push-over either. With Blink and the ability to recall back to Londinium the Foxtail Artisan was rather sure he would be safe throughout his trip into the Forest. And if not... well, at least he was functionally immortal in this world. A cold comfort, but it was something.
Eventually he found a lovely little clearing amidst the woods where several small streams converged into a pond and filled the air with the sounds of flowing water. The sunlight filtering in through the canopy of leaves gave it a beautiful lighting which only encouraged the Artisan's desire to paint the scene, and soon enough he found a good position to sit and paint, facing eastwards so that the light would be in the center of his painting and illuminating the rearmost section of the forest. All in all it was an inspiring sight and one that he hoped that he could do justice to as he began his work.
Setting up his easel and canvas the Foxtail brought out his pallet and began to set up his paints, greens and browns and yellows and whites all spread out across the palette, ready to be mixed into whatever colour he needed as he went about the landscape painting. It was going to be difficult he knew, especially considering it was his first real experience with oil paints but he was confident that he could do well even in such a situation. It helped immensely to have access to that vast database of knowledge that came with having a subclass but even so it required some natural knowledge and talent to be a true Artisan.
Setting up a small bowl of oil to thin his paints, Jacoben began to mix up his first paint, a dark green that would serve as the shaded leaves which were avoided by the morning sunlight as it illuminated and shaded the woodlands in equal measures. Darker colours would form the background that would form the basis of the rest of the image. He'd need to be careful to ensure he demonstrated depth by adding a fading effect to the areas in the background, the added white pigment would also make it easier to paint lighter colours on over the dark pigments of the background. Of course, there would be plenty of dark colours in the foreground as well, the shadows thrown up by the morning light leaving much of his surroundings in a gloomy darkness which only served to highlight the bright center of the scene he had chosen to paint. It made an excellent focal point and was a lovely contrast.

| Some hours ago, she had woken up underneath the fiery glow of the beautiful sunrise and one of the rare few times that she basked in it's warmth beauty. Waking up that early wasn't something that she had planned in advance but the thing was, dreams of the people she had had unexpected left back in the real had begun to plague her slumber. In her dreams the past few days, her loved ones had moved on and utterly forgot everything about her. She was lost and alone in the abyss of her dreams. To others when she was awake, she had maintained a facade though struggling of casualness and light-hearted attitude. The only thing she could do to distract her bothering thoughts on those dreams was find some medium that would allow her to completely concentrate on something else.
After waking up from her slumber, she had chosen to spend some hours in the forestry of the Windsor Greatwood and gradually level grind fighting some low level monsters. It process would most likely be exhausting on her body but she didn't care at all. Avalon just wanted to feel the rush of adrenaline and forget all about those plaguing nightmares. For her, fighting gave her a sense of comfort as it was something she was very familiar with and the first thing she had to adapt in the Elder Tale game when she was unexpectedly dropped into this strange but dangerous world. Although she knew she was gradually earning respect and gaining more strength as an assassin, she had been sent to the cathedral a few times from executing close combat skills that put her dainty appearing figure at risk. It didn't hurt to try right? Besides, she had eventually learned from those mistakes and obviously wouldn't make those mistake again.
Now here she was, hours later in what appeared to be afternoon though it was a bit difficult to differentiate since the towering ancient trees were a canopy blocking her view from her sight. She breathed heatedly and exhaled out to release her tension and relax her heartbeat into a steady metronome. A mere few minutes ago, a horde of aggressive pittered boars had unexpectedly surrounded her in the thicket of the deep forest. She cursed inwardly at forgetting to toggle on her hearing aptitude that would have been so much helpful in assisting her in the battle and preventing the surprise of being faced with the cacophonous pittered boars she was able to defeat after improvising some tactics to defeat them quickly and efficiently in a short amount of time. She was lucky enough to be at a much higher level than those monsters or else she would have been screwed over and swiftly sent to the cathedral.
Through the deep forestry in the Windsor Greatwood, a light was gently radiating from the outside as a beckon for her follow. Dazed and exhausted from the prior fights, her legs had begun to move on their own toward the light that seemed to be calling out to her. A step out of the darkened canopy of the towering trees, a bright light had hit her straight on and obstructed her vision for a moment. She had to cover her eyes by putting her hands above her eyes to protect her sight. Once her vision adjusted to the brightness, a warm feeling came upon her and a gentle breeze flowed with her body as it put her at ease. She was then greeted with the sight of a peaceful visage of a small pond and vibrant flowers neatly littered around the surroundings. A luminous white haired young man caught her attention. He looked vaguely familiar. As she walked up to the fox tail she asked, "Is that you Jacoben?" with eyes furrowed in curiosity.

As the day progressed he became more and more engrossed in his painting, the brushes dancing across the canvas as he applied more and more colours and shades to it and bring together what had started off as little more than smears of different colours on the canvas. Here a tree took shape, there another of the small waterfalls became apparent, and over there the smudges of green and yellow turned into foliage struck by the strongest sunlight in the wood and if he added in a little bit of colour just so then he had the reflection in the pool. He felt a little bit like Bob Ross as the painting came together, each stroke of his hand bringing more and more into the image. It was a soothing action, bringing him the sort of peace that didn't often come to one who had as many anxieties as he did. But here, out in the wild with no one to see him and no one to talk to he was able to express himself in the most simple of ways, through the action of painting. With brush and spatula and oil paint he was bringing the scene before him to life. Of course, it already looked different to his mismatched eyes, as the painting was showing the forest in the midmorning while the shadows were growing longer in reality. The illumination that he had painted had gone, but he was still able to see it in his mind's eye and on the canvas before him. Frowning slightly he brought up some paint and smeared it across part of the canvas, another few colours added to it in an almost haphazard pattern that still somehow managed to convey exactly what he wanted, the colours blending together in a beautiful fashion. Looking up to check what he had done the Foxtail's brows furrowed as he saw a figure coming his way, while he couldn't identify who it was it did give him a good idea for the final touches to his painting. Dabbing quickly at the paint on his pallet Jacoben filled in two bodies in the approximate location of the person coming his way, looking at his finished painting with a sense of pride that was well earned considering the amount of work that he had put into it. That feeling of pride dissipated very quickly as he put the canvas and paints away and got to his feet to meet whomever it was that was coming his way, after all this far from a city it could very easily be a PKer looking for an easy victim and he didn't want to be caught with his pants down so to speak. As the individual got closer Jac started to get a sense of familiarity from the person, something telling him that he knew them already and then they called out his name which told him that they at least knew who he was. Walking forward the Artisan got a little closer and suddenly realised who it was, "Ah! Miss Avalon, what a surprise to see you here," the Foxtail declared as he looked the Wolf Hair over to see if anything had changed since their last meeting. "I hadn't expected anyone to stumble across me here today, what brings you here?" he inquired pleasantly, all the while trying to tell his mind to stop trying to make him anxious, this wasn't some random stranger it was someone he had fought alongside on the Quest that Zyrune had taken them on and he refused to treat her like some unknown woman, even if something in him wanted him to feel at least mildly concerned with the social interaction. He still wasn't quite sure where he stood with Avalon, but he wouldn't consider them enemies by a long shot. Perhaps he would classify her as an ally or something similar, after all they had fought together for some time, an action which tends to bond the human race together, even if strictly speaking neither of them were humans anymore. @eleri Avalon[Easter Charm x3]
It's been a little while since everyone got stuck in this little fairy tale. Stuff happened and up until now many questions are unanswered. I've been trying to get stronger and work on helping improving adventurer's technology later and despite my efforts, it seems not many adventurers care for their crafting classes. I do prefer this world better, but I can't deny that the other side had its perks as well, and the main one was how technology was advanced. At the very least I'm free from the bunch of crap that already had grown its roots in the core of that society. Today I've got an unusual job. A mechanic came by my workshop and wanted a specific metal that surprisingly, I had none in stock. I acccepted it anyways and hoped that that idiot will make something useful for everyone at least. It took me the whole morning of mining and monster fighting. The noise from the proccess of extracting the ore usually increased aggro against me in the case of agressive and predatory monsters inside caves. I'm used to fight these anyways, so it wasn't any big deal. With a good amount of materials in a big leather sack, I got out of the cave. Staying inside of a lightless area sometimes suck, even if you didn't explore too much of it. It's god damn afternoon, and that means a waste of time. Making my way back to Londinium, I've reached a stunning scenery. The scenery was worth the view, but not the time. I've gotta remeber to take that damn cardinal rose skill at once. Crouching and cupping both hands together, I drank some of the pure water and splashed some on my face to cool off a little bit. The insides of those caves were a bit dirty, so it helped clean my skin as well. Once ready to get out of the natural pond, I've noticed that someone else was present as well. "- Painting...? Now talk about being carefree... "
I've mumbled to myself while watching him. Raiding the foxtail on that moment wouldn't be hard, and judging by his clothing he was a mage, alone in the woods. That idea quickly faded away once someone else approached him. Presumably a woman, and maybe, a weapon specialist. My chances against the foxtail were slim, but both of them is simply impossible for me, even though it would be fun. With a soft sigh and slow steps, I hopped above some of the streams and started to approach both of them with a soft smile and relaxed walking composure. Making them mad at me right now is just a no-no. - Hello there! - I greeted them waving my right hand, not paying much attention to what they were talking about, and that probably would make me look a bit impolite. Screw it, really. - I couldn't help but get a little curious watching you over there, Mr. Foxy! Would you mind if I take a look at that painting? I'm not that skilled in arts and finding an artisan is kind of hard. It's been ages since I last saw a decent painting...With a small hand wave I greeted the other woman and widened my soft and gentle smile, (HAHAHA!) trying my best on reassuring that right now, I'm not an enemy and to show that this girl is a good person, waiting for his answer. ---

| Her lips curved upwards into a cheery grin of familiarity toward the fox tailed adventurer and waved at the young man. It was have been quite awkward and embarrassing for her if Jacoben wasn't the young man she had called out to a few moments earlier. She had a nostalgic memory of how she was quite dazzled by his angelic features of a slender and snowy white hair that stood out amongst the rest of the adventurer in the quest they had embarked some time ago. To be honest, his exotic heterochromatic eyes seemed to be exquisite and the spectrum hues were entrancing. She was almost caught in it's spell and had to recompose herself from her daze. Avalon liked his hint of innocence that he exuded ever since she had first met the boyish and adorable fox tail in that moonlit night of questing. Although it felt quite odd that he called her 'miss' instead of just saying her name, she inwardly enjoyed that changed though she didn't want to admit it for thinking that might make her appear soft in front of others.
"It's a surprise seeing you here as well!" she responded with a small smile and jokingly continued, "Remember I said not to call me 'miss' right?' and laughed heartily. It was actually comforting to be around others for a change after soloing by herself for some time. After some male adventurer had declared right in front of her that she wouldn't survive and was weak initially causing a heavy drop in her confidence in herself. After much thought and support from the few close friends, her heart was soon was filled with determination to train and level until she reached a point when she could prove them wrong. They would pay dearly for what they called her. "I was actually out here trying to clear my mind though not doing so well with that," she replied with a slight shrug and recomposed her shoulders, "Until I somehow stumbled upon a familiar face today. This clearing is quite beautiful," as she gazed longingly upon nature's beauty.
"What 'bout you Jacoben? What were you up to?" she asked the snowy haired fox tail with her lavender eyes flickered in curiosity. Suddenly, she was swiftly interrupted by a feminine tone of voice from some direction. Avalon's darted quickly and hands twitched in readiness at the unexpected guest that sounded casually enough to interrupt her conversation with a familiar adventurer that had brought her a sense of comfort. From the corner of her eye, she spotted a petite figured female adventurer that would initially seem to mean no harm in normal circumstances. But some few months ago, that same type of thinking a while back caused her to land into harm's ways and attacked by a hit man sub-class adventurer without any warning at all. She learned that some people would relish in taking advantage in the weak and pretended they had meant no harm toward others until it was too late. Because of those experiences, she had to adapt and held a wariness lingering inwardly.
"Stay on guard Jace," she whispered cautiously at the white haired fox tail standing next to her, "There's something off about the girl," as she pondered in thought. The petite obsidian haired samurai seemed overly friendly and asking to come closer too causally when they were obviously merely strangers, knowing nothing about each other besides their basis information. Just because the obsidian haired girl adventurer wasn't of a hit man sub class, it didn't mean she wasn't hiding a facade of a player killer. If it came to worse and she attempted to attack to PK them though that was a bad idea in hindsight, Avalon wouldn't hesitate to defend herself and the male sorcerer. The female newcomer gave her wave and smiled at her so in turn, Avalon responded with a cheshire grin that appeared cat-like and waved back at the stranger.

"Any treasure you obtain without ever having to work for it is no treasure at all."

"Ah, I'm sorry, I don't think I can do that Miss Avalon, it wouldn't be right," he responded pleasantly to the Assassin as he straightened up his robes and stretched to get the kinks out of his back and tail, his ears twitching this way and that as they followed the various sounds of the woods. "It's a really pretty place, which is why I set up here to work on my Artisan class, I couldn't help but want to paint it," the small Foxtail stated as he stared at the pond with a sort of fond happiness. It was places and sights like this that made him love being here in this world even more, the sort of beautiful and unspoiled wilderness that they couldn't find any more in their own world. At least, not very easily anyway.
The sound of another voice had the Artisan turn to look in the direction of yet another person coming into the clearing. It was odd, he'd come all the way here to get some solitude and he managed to run into two people in such a short space of time. Internally shrugging to himself he managed to keep his attention outwards and on the two females, one he knew and one he didn't. "Aha...I'm sorry Miss Elf, that particular painting was a personal one for myself, perhaps I could do a painting for you if you'd like and are willing to compensate me for it?"' he offered with an equally cheerful smile to match the petite Samurai's apparently gentle attitude.
He was somewhat confused by the situation, considering Avalon's whispered warning. She hadn't been wrong whenever she identified enemies before when they quested together, so he would definitely give credence to her warning, but the Samurai girl also had not done anything to be deemed a threat yet so there was absolutely no reason for him to be hostile towards her. Therefore he'd have to be kind while remaining cautious in order to satisfy the two conflicting viewpoints he was receiving regarding the newcomer. "Unfortunately I'm not exactly well off so I can't just offer one to free, Canvases can get pretty expensive after all," the Foxtail added sheepishly, his tail swaying behind him carelessly as though he was actually relaxed in the situation.
With his single visible tail it might seem that he was still relatively weak, and his open and cheerful attitude would also suggest that he wasn't taking Avalon's warning seriously, but there was more to the Foxtail than was immediately apparent, and he would handle this situation his own way where possible. For now there was absolutely nothing to suggest that they couldn't all be sociable and peaceful. A slight motion of his left index finger toggled his Hearing Aptitude skill so that he might be able to have an advanced warning should a patrolling monster appear, but besides that he couldn't see any situation where they would get involved in a physical conflict.
"What brings you so far out into the woods Miss Elf?" the Sorcerer inquired politely, "this isn't exactly on the main path, did you need some help with something?" he added earnestly, meaning every word he said even though his companion was very obviously wary of the newcomer. He had heard of Player Killer Adventurers, but he sincerely doubted that they would get attacked when there was a one on two situation even if the Samurai did turn out to be such an individual. Besides, it was far more appropriate to follow the doctrine of 'innocent until proven guilty'. Thus far the unknown Elf had proven friendly so he was going to treat her as such.
