Hello everyone! Since I have now returned to helping out on the forum officially again as a moderator, I would like to just take a quick survey to get some ideas on what you all, as members, would be interested in seeing. All ideas suggested here are just that - ideas. There is no guarantee that any of the following suggestions, answers, ideas, etc will be implemented at any time. But, if everyone could take a few minutes and help me gauge where my efforts should go, I would appreciate it. My main roles here are approving profiles and running events, however I can oversee just about any aspect of the forum. That being said, this will mainly focus on events but I've thrown in a few other questions for informational purposes. :P
Please answer as many questions as you feel comfortable answering. You may PM your responses to me if you prefer, too.
1. Do you prefer IC (in-character/roleplay) events, OOC (out of character) events or a mix of both?
In character events would be roleplay based events, which may or may not be official plot threads (such as CA) or casual events (such as last years Winter Ball). Out of character events would be things like Christmas/Valentines Day cards and the Easter Egg Hunt Event. OOC events do not typically provide IC rewards, although this is not a set rule. IC events typically have AP boosts and items as rewards.
2. For rewards, I prefer... Typical responses would be "AP Bonuses" or "Rare Items". Your preferred or suggested reward ideas for participating in an Event.
3. Which of the following OOC Events interest you most? If you like them all, try and place them in preference order. - Scavenger Hunts (Like the Easter Egg Hunt Event) where items are hidden throughout the forum and finding them earns points - Trivia Contests - Holiday Cards (Christmas and Valentines cards) - Other Game Show styled events (please suggest if any specific) - I don't like OOC Events - "of the Month" which would feature members, threads, etc each month - Other (please specify)
4. Which of the following IC Events interest you most? If you like them all, try and place them in a preference order. - Dungeon Events with boss monsters and scary, dark corridors, oh my - Random Instance Events (such as the Masked Entity occurrences or Hiro's Londinium Under Fire) - Social Events, such as Balls and Parties - Crafting Events - Events which unlock new areas/plot - I don't like IC Events - Other (please specify)
5. For OOC Events, I think real-time events, such as Trivia, in the cbox... - Would be fun and exciting - Would spam the cbox and be annoying - Would just be whatever, neither interesting or annoying, I don't care
6. In regards to "of the Month" features specifically, which would you like to see? If you like them all, try and place them in a preference order. - Monthly summarizes of roleplay threads, specifically Event threads - Monthly summarizes of all types of roleplay threads - Member of the Month, which would feature a character and RPer each month - Skill/Class/Craft of the Month, which would feature a skill, class, or crafting recipe each month - User submitted feature, a monthly posting of user submitted art, short stories, etc - I don't like this concept at all
7. I think the forum needs more... (you may select multiple answers) - IC Events - OOC Events - Absolutely nothing, love you all - Skills in general or for a certain class - Main classes or subclasses - Playable character races - More >insert your suggestion here<
8. I feel the current Guild system is... (please expand if desired) - Alright how it is, I like it - Could use some work, there's not a lot of reason to join one - Is absolutely terrible and needs a complete overhaul
9. What are your impressions of the Celestial Arms quest line? (you may mark multiple answers)
- I like being able to pace it myself. - I think the summaries are a little vague and need some more detail. - I think there should be more parts of the quest that require member collaboration (EX: restoring the tablet, exploring the labyrinth) - I think it's too long and difficult to complete every month. - I think it's too short and too easy to complete every month. - I like the current monthly content each chapter. - Other
10. Any additional comments, suggestions, concerns or otherwise you would like to share regarding this survey or the forum in general. Please remember to be respectful and constructive. Thank you for taking time to provide some feedback for me.

1: A mix of both, but mostly IC events. 2: Both, but mostly rare items. 3: Trivia! TRIVIA!! 4: From most interesting to least interesting: Dungeon events; events which unlock new areas; social events. 5: Would be fun and exciting! 6: Member of the month; Skill/Class/Craft of the month. 7: (in no specific order) IC Events; OOC Events; Skills for Swashbucklers; We do not need more classes, subclasses, nor races - MAYBE a spellsword class, I don't know; more memes (#CourtesanSubclass); More players 8: Somewhere between alright how it is and could use some work. I feel like there might be ways to improve, but I have no idea how exactly, and even if it didn't get touched up on, I'd be happy with it as is. 9: I like being able to pace it myself; I think SOME of the summaries are a bit vague; I like it a lot honestly. 10:

1. I like both in and out of character, but at the moment I would probably prefer in character so I can get to 90.
2. I like both AP Bonuses or Rare Items, but I might be easy to please. Though between the two I would prefer AP Bonuses so I can get to 90.
3. I like most of them, but here is my preference order: Trivia Contest Scavenger Hunts Game Show Styled Events Of the Month
4. Here is my preference order: Unlock New Areas/Plot Dungeon Events Random Instance Events Crafting Events
5. Would be fun and exciting
6. User submitted feature or Member of the Month
7. More Playable Character Races (maybe one or two more), Skills in general (specifically higher-leveled Tier III skills), Possibly another class but not necessarily needed
8. I am tied between "could use some work" and "needs a complete overhaul." I understand how the system works, but the problem seems to be player oriented over admin oriented... I'm not sure what to suggest on how to fix it, but it feels like its missing something.
9. I like the current monthly content each chapter, but I feel like some more detail would be awesome (so maybe we can figure out the next chapter) :D
10. Additional: I feel like there should be some more cannon dungeons and possibly raids that could be stand alone and player DM'ed; just have a system set up for how gold and loot drops (probably based on rolls) so that it can primarily be player-run with mod oversight.

1. Do you prefer IC (in-character/roleplay) events, OOC (out of character) events or a mix of both?
For me, I think I have had the most fun with casual ic events, they tend to be a nice break from the norm and let characters interact in different settings that they otherwise may not be used to. The ball was a good example though the thread was kind of...crowded.
Variety, however, is the spice of life!
2. For rewards, I prefer...
Generally AP bonuses for the smaller events and as incentives but the collector in me likes exclusive cosmetic things~ The characters in canon get a lot of their flavor from the items they carry.
3. Which of the following OOC Events interest you most? If you like them all, try and place them in preference order.
- Other, I prefer occ incentives such as drives to help out new players or increase website camaraderie. We are a community.
4. Which of the following IC Events interest you most? If you like them all, try and place them in a preference order.
1) Unlocks 2) Dungeons 3) Social 4) Crafting (player run, like Hiro's idea)
5. For OOC Events, I think real-time events, such as Trivia, in the cbox...
- I think Mura already does an awesome job with the little cbox surprises.
6. In regards to "of the Month" features specifically, which would you like to see? If you like them all, try and place them in a preference order.
I would like to see the newspaper idea get back off the ground, in fact it would be fun to write. Current events would keep everyone fresh and informed and give our rp world more life and a sense of chronology.
7. I think the forum needs more... (you may select multiple answers)
- Skills in general or for a certain class ,
Some classes such as summoner could use more incentive for build variety in my opinion. The new pet taming build in was a nice touch.
8. I feel the current Guild system is... (please expand if desired)
- Guild housing tends to exist in its own bubble, i have no idea how to fix this. They're sub forums of sub forums so they fail to be landmarks in a way.
9. What are your impressions of the Celestial Arms quest line? (you may mark multiple answers)
- Good idea, but kind of confusing/overwhelming for me. I have no criticisms with the quest line itself however, it was a good idea and many members enjoy it.
10. Members have been discussing crafting as of late and I feel the system might need a bit of help/clarity in some places. Our members have done a pretty good job at providing a very wide variety of opinions in discussion of it. What, if anything, should happen with the system, however, I do not know.

1. Do you prefer IC (in-character/roleplay) events, OOC (out of character) events or a mix of both?
I prefer IC events more than OOC events, but I am willing to give the latter a try; I came here to enjoy my time writing, so any new opportunities to stretch my creative muscles is an opportunity I will happily take on.
2. For rewards, I prefer...
AP is a relatively easy commodity to get, as I no doubt proved in my first week here; while small bonuses like 10% or 15% are great, events need to bring new things to the table. Events shouldn't be just a limited-time only thread type that pops up every month, they should be satisfying endeavours that showcase ability and reward those who participate and excel in a meaningful and memorable manner. Rare items may fit the bill here, but perhaps other things may work better.
3. Which of the following OOC Events interest you most? If you like them all, try and place them in preference order.
- Scavenger Hunts (Like the Easter Egg Hunt Event) - Holiday Cards (Christmas and Valentines cards)
- "of the Month"
4. Which of the following IC Events interest you most? If you like them all, try and place them in a preference order.
- Social Events, such as Balls and Parties
- Dungeon Events with boss monsters and scary, dark corridors, oh my
- Events which unlock new areas/plot
- Crafting Events
- Random Instance Events (such as the Masked Entity occurrences or Hiro's Londinium Under Fire)
5. For OOC Events, I think real-time events, such as Trivia, in the cbox...
- Would spam the cbox and be annoying
6. In regards to "of the Month" features specifically, which would you like to see? If you like them all, try and place them in a preference order.
- Monthly summarizes of Event threads - Skill/Class/Craft of the Month, which would feature a skill, class, or crafting recipe each month
- Member of the Month, which would feature a character and RPer each month (but only if there is a variety; different every month... a showcase rather than a competition) - User submitted feature, a monthly posting of user submitted art, short stories, etc
7. I think the forum needs more... (you may select multiple answers)
- IC Events
- Subclasses
- More cheesecake (I can provide :3)
8. I feel the current Guild system is... (please expand if desired)
- Alright how it is, I like it
9. What are your impressions of the Celestial Arms quest line? (you may mark multiple answers)
- I like being able to pace it myself.
- I think there should be more parts of the quest that require member collaboration (EX: restoring the tablet, exploring the labyrinth)
- I like the current monthly content each chapter.

1. IC events are preferred. OOC events might improve bonding between members, but there is cBox for that as well. Also rewards.2. Rare items are preferred. This is because AP can be acquired over time with some effort: Rare items, on the other hand, not so much. Rare items are kind of a testimony for how long you've been on the site as well. (I am definitely not holding on to Lu Bu's Qianlima from the first event)3. "of the Month" events. I feel that these kinds of events give the most recognition to members, and when people feel wanted, they are more likely to hang around even when they're too busy to RP, rather than just drop everything RP-related. If there's anything that does the recognition thing better, then by all means. 4. It's not a matter of 'what type of IC events interest me'. Rather, as long as an event setting (or reward) can draw people in to participate, then it is a good IC event. 5. Real time events are kind of punishing due to time zone differences. I would not want to wake up at 4am to play something like Trivia, for example. 6. How about as many things as possible? As a new concept, there should be some experimenting involved. After a while, you can probably figure out what to do with it then. Also, what Franny said. Bring back BRN, let them have their comeback. 7. "Skills in general or for a certain class" I don't think Swashbuckler has had updates in a while... Stop making me think of converting after 90, mods. Saki says this is wrong. So I shall change it to 'more subclass skills'. As for events, perhaps one or two a month would be best. People have lives, and sometimes too many events means that some can't participate in all of them even when they want to. For instance, we currently have CA II, Masked Entity, Halloween Hunt and Homecoming. Too many events. They should be spread out over two months instead. Basically, maximum of two events per month.8. I don't even guild. Next question! Okay, just kidding. After the housing stat revamp and the upcoming NPC slav- I mean, workers coming in, there should be good reason to join a guild to capitalize on these bonuses. Unless you have an IC reason for not joining, I believe this will boost guild membership rates. 9. Celestial Arms is fine. I just wish y'all won't post chapter 3 next month so I won't miss out on much. If you have so much free time, how about adding optional steps? 10. Not much at the moment. I haven't been around as much often, so I might probably miss out on some of the finer details. I would, however, appreciate " The Elder Tale Interface" in the Encyclopedia subforum to receive more attention. Never hurts to be cautious, don't know how many people don't realize that some things are not consumables.

1. IC events all the way, exception to this being maybe a small game like an easter egg hunt or an art competition, but anything OOC should have either a gold reward or some kind of AP boost. IC should be items. 2. Either. Rare items are cool, but I prefer it if I can wait until the event cycles back around to have a second attempt at rarities I missed the first time around cause life’s a fickle mistress and it sucks to not have some of the cool stuff as a new guy. 3. Of that list? Maybe “Of the Month” if only to promote people reading other people’s work. Otherwise, art competition? 4. IC Events in Order: a. Story Events (Such as Celestial Arms or alike) b. Crafting Events c. Dungeon Events (Cause we have dungeons already but no one’s really finished one yet) 5. …Are gimmicky at best. When Saki chimes in with the random things, it’s fun but if organised en masse, it’d clog up the Cbox as a means for communicating for things relating to the RP. Also, time zones make that a pain. 6. Solos, if anything. Because the implication or impression that people have is that solos don’t get read by anyone except by those doing claims, if that. 7. Finished WIP mod projects. Things like housing and subclasses and even the crafting table seem to have all died through inactivity or lack of mods or community support for these projects. 8. There’s only one active guild if we go by the current requirements to have an active one, so something needs to change. 9. I think CA is a good idea, and handled well. I find it easier to complete solo, but with a party nets you more benefits. I do feel like I’m playing catchup with how I didn’t start it alongside everyone else though; The other thing regarding CA is redoing it to level the pebble seems odd, or at least very hard to get in on additional runs; from an IC perspective, it’s basically farming a quest in real life, which isn’t fun especially if you need to go through all the motions again to fulfil the criteria. If there were alternate ways to level the Pebble of Philosophy, I’d be up for that.

All ideas suggested here are just that - ideas. There is no guarantee that any of the following suggestions, answers, ideas, etc will be implemented at any time. Do you prefer IC (in-character/roleplay) events, OOC (out of character) events or a mix of both? IC events :3 Encourages RP and hopefully community stuff, which is always good. It also proves we are an active site! I did enjoy the art competition a lot, which I guess was OOC. 2. For rewards, I prefer... Items, AP bonus, or way to get previous rewards (eg: Crafting tools) 3. Which of the following OOC Events interest you most? If you like them all, try and place them in preference order. - "of the Month" which would feature members, threads, etc each month - Art \o/ 4. Which of the following IC Events interest you most? If you like them all, try and place them in a preference order. - Dungeon Events with boss monsters and scary, dark corridors, oh my - Social Events, such as Balls and Parties - Crafting Events 5. For OOC Events, I think real-time events, such as Trivia, in the cbox... - Would spam the cbox and be annoying - Would not be in my timezone 6. In regards to "of the Month" features specifically, which would you like to see? If you like them all, try and place them in a preference order. - Monthly summarizes of roleplay threads, specifically Event threads 7. I think the forum needs more... (you may select multiple answers) - Skills in general or for a certain class 8. I feel the current Guild system is... (please expand if desired) - Could use some work, there's not a lot of reason to join one - That said, I don't think there neccesarily needs to be. Joining a guild should be done because you want to align with something ro someone, not for a sweet bonus. An increased requirement for starting a guild might be nice (eg: 5 members to start) 9. What are your impressions of the Celestial Arms quest line? (you may mark multiple answers) - I like being able to pace it myself. - I think there should be more parts of the quest that require member collaboration (EX: restoring the tablet, exploring the labyrinth) - I think it's too long and difficult to complete every month. - I like the current monthly content each chapter. - I think each chapter comes in too many threads. 5 threads for 1 chapter of 1 story seems excessive. More shared / group threads might be nice (eg: there is /one/ labyrinth thread during the month it is active.

Thank you everyone so far who has replied, please don't be shy about sharing your thoughts here if you haven't yet already. I've seen a few requests for Art related events... would you want these to be Art Showcases or Art Competitions? I also see the calls to bring the newspaper back. The old newspaper was before my time but I remember one of the very first things I wanted to do when I signed up was have a newspaper. I was told it was tried and flopped and no one wanted it so I can see that perhaps that wasn't quite accurate. I definitely like the idea of a newspaper. For those interested in it, please contact me but I think I'll be making a thread about that soon to gauge more interest. Keep the feedback coming, this is so valuable to read for us mods. Dr. Ultima could you please expand further on this comment "Other, I prefer occ incentives such as drives to help out new players or increase website camaraderie. We are a community." I like what you're saying but I'm not sure how to put it into practice. Do you have an example of what you mean by this? Sark "7. I think the forum needs more... 1. Do you prefer IC (in-character/roleplay) events, OOC (out of character) events or a mix of both? Mix of both.
2. For rewards, I prefer... Items are nice, but the downside is that if a lot of people participate, then item distribution is pretty slow. I'm fine with either, but I can find a bit more motivation through getting items.
3. Which of the following OOC Events interest you most? - Scavenger Hunts - "of the Month"
4. Which of the following IC Events interest you most? If you like them all, try and place them in a preference order. - Events which unlock new areas/plot (Sarum and Lune were fun) - Random Instance Events
5. For OOC Events, I think real-time events, such as Trivia, in the cbox... - Would be fun and exciting.
6. In regards to "of the Month" features specifically, which would you like to see? If you like them all, try and place them in a preference order. - User submitted feature - Skill/Class/Craft of the Month - Monthly summaries of roleplay threads, specifically Event threads
7. I think the forum needs more... - Trains
8. I feel the current Guild system is... - Could use some work, there's not a lot of reason to join one.
9. What are your impressions of the Celestial Arms quest line? - I like being able to pace it myself.
10. Any additional comments, suggestions, concerns or otherwise you would like to share regarding this survey or the forum in general.
I'd like to see a dungeon thread system on here. By claiming a dungeon thread, they could get a 10% bonus in both AP and gold. When the user goes to claim it, a mod can roll a die and based on the number given, the player gets an item as a reward from a list of available drops. However, caps would have to be put on it (probably CA's word/post count requirement) and all that other stuff. Oh jeez, I'm rambling, I'll stop talking.

Typing from mobile so I will not be as long winded as usual :3 I think certain classes and subclasses Ada whole ^^ An example might be dancers who only have the level 1 benefit(?) or bards who only have a single build to choose from (back line musician).
Obviously putting up a complete skill list would be a huge amount of work for little gain when it comes to subclasses, but I think part of the reason people so not level up subclass is that there is little reason to. It might be worth quizzing some people why they chose certain subclasses as well to see if it was the flavour or the benefits. (Eg - are they blacksmith to make weapons or are they blacksmith for access to better armour?)
I also vote for more dungeons :) Rather than roll to get irrelevant items, I would prefer if we could choose 1 item from a list :) Both random and determined options are supported in different games so it makes sense IC, and we do not have the size of a trading community to support random drops from an OOC point of view. (eg: no one /active/ wants a wand. Or a musical instrument)
Edit: Forgot to say, I like "public" art rather than "secretly submit your art" - Sharing your art publicly means other people can enjoy it or build off it, just like sharing your RPing publicly (via roleplaying here) means others can enjoy it or build off it :)

Sorry that part was over broad because I don't really have any solid suggestions. Some great examples of what I am talking about both big and small have been the mentor system which offers an ic incentive to interact with new members in an ooc capacity as well. On the smaller side was the minor incentive that I think Murasaki offered for answering introduction threads with welcomes. For skills, I think some of the rp subclasses could either use a merger or a tune up. Courier's run speed is neat but does it really need the cd when it's already only available out of combat? As a suggestion, if the pseudo-ic newspaper does get started, this would be one avenue where art would be needed to spice things up, so it could be an excellent platform to showcase member work. Forum artists could illustrate the stories for fun and maybe some incentive could be offered as reward for the work.

1. Do you prefer IC (in-character/roleplay) events, OOC (out of character) events or a mix of both?
Neither but if I had to choose I prefer plot driven events over social ones.
2. For rewards, I prefer...
Gear. Doesn't need to be rare but getting weapons/items/armor/etc are always nice.
3. Which of the following OOC Events interest you most? If you like them all, try and place them in preference order.
I don't like OOC Events
4. Which of the following IC Events interest you most? If you like them all, try and place them in a preference order.
- Dungeon Events with boss monsters and scary, dark corridors, oh my <-- only if they're DM'ed and actually a challenge. If a person can solo it even at lvl90 with no problems then its not hard enough. - Events which unlock new areas/plot <-- We need more areas to roam than Londinium and the surrounding area. This Scotland thing was/is a good chance to open up other areas. We've not looked at South West England or many of the other Areas including Wales. Lets get on this.
5. For OOC Events, I think real-time events, such as Trivia, in the cbox...
- Would spam the cbox and be annoying
6. In regards to "of the Month" features specifically, which would you like to see? If you like them all, try and place them in a preference order.
- I don't like this concept at all <-- Simple reason. OTM's that offer rewards such as AP, Gold, or items are asking for abuse. RP sites as a general rule are very cliquish. So, you'd eventually take notice of a the same names popping up consistently. Unless OTM's do nothing of value and is just a bragging right OTM's are a bad idea.
7. I think the forum needs more... (you may select multiple answers)
- IC Events
8. I feel the current Guild system is... (please expand if desired)
- Is absolutely terrible and needs a complete overhaul
9. What are your impressions of the Celestial Arms quest line? (you may mark multiple answers)
- Other : I didn't participate last round and probably won't for the rest of it unless a reward comes up that I want. So I have no opinion.
10. Any additional comments, suggestions, concerns or otherwise you would like to share regarding this survey or the forum in general.
DM'ed quests need to be a thing.

Dr. Ultima - In regards to the Newspaper, I'm working out a base idea to get a separate thread up for that but right now I am thinking it would be a good way to combine several of the ideas here... "of the months" could be featured, as well as RP summarizes and member submitted work (art, short stories, etc). Once I get some thoughts together on that, I'll be putting up a different thread though. Edit: Oops, on the wrong account but that's alright. This is Sugar but I think everyone knows that haha
