Renai took a slow look around the area, eyes flicking from one spot to the next. For the thing he envisioned now, what Renai needed was not the machine-work skills of Hiro, nor the stonework of the artisans. What Renai needed now was someone who could officiate, draw up documents, and make everything fair, legal, and proper. The plans Renai had for what was coming were certainly no laughing matter, but he needed to make sure he could lay claim to something. The last thing he needed was to be working on a section of the line, only to find out that he was doing it 'illegally' or that someone else was already trying this. He had glanced through the inventions thus far and what he found was somewhat lacking. Nowhere in there could he find anything that made him think, "Oh, this is an appraisal document." So he had put out the word. He needed the ability to appraise an area and be able to determine its worth and wealth, even for things that were not categorically classified as 'zones'.
Even if it could not be purchased, Renai really would have liked to understand the value of what was in front of him. If he was going to perhaps utilize the vast wilderness for his goals as well, the ability to appraise and appraisal documents would become invaluable. This world seemed strangely centered around commerce and craft, rather than simple combat, so the woodcrafter figured he'd get his hands on whatever he could. Someone had responded to his request for a Scribe, or so he believed, and when they showed up, the duo would be able to start by 'researching' the rail line. Renai had gone and 'collected' quite a few documents as well for the overall accepted value of known locations and public zones, so perhaps those would be useful? He didn't exactly have the capacity to start woodcrafting out here in the middle of nowhere, but his knowledge of structures might come in handy in helping the scribe assess and understand the location itself. The line was dilapidated. That much was obvious. And Renai wanted to repair it and get it running again. That much was also fairly apparent.
But before Renai started repairing the state of the world, there needed to be an understanding on the buildings, rail lines, and general situation of this area. Appraise that. Get the entire area cleaned up. If he managed that much, then maybe things could be a little better. Repair the rail first. Then the buildings. But before any of that, the woodcrafter needed to inspect the foundation and structural integrity of the buildings and rail and any coverings or blahblahblah. He was starting to think circularly, but there wasn't any point in getting ahead of himself until the scribe showed up. Even if Renai's research was subpar, the scribe could be creating some real magic here. Renai's eyes were flicking to the buildings though. Those were catching his interest, more than even the documents in his hands. If only a Fernweh would magically appear and reveal himself as the one true scribe. That would be just dandy.
