bittersweet. Ever since she had become trapped in this world she was fighting to grow stronger. Everyday was the same, she woke up, she geared up and she moved out into the greatwoods to farm for experience. Eventually living like that would catch up to you; the mental fatigue would sort of wear you down until you got lazy. Today was one of those days as she wandered the flower gardens aimlessly. Originally she came here to continue leveling up but found herself laying among the flowers.
Was this really life for them now? Did their lives revolve around trying to gain levels so that they were safe to leave home? She supposed that it was not much different than real life except you were learning to wield weapons openly here. Perhaps what this world needed was some sort of police force outside of the walls. The cities no longer had any sort of army so it was on the adventurers to be the escorts when people needed to travel from one place to another.
Crossing her arms under her chest, the young foxtail laid there on her back kicking her feet in the air. It was a bored habit of hers and one that would seem strange on the outside. Ever since she was a toddler and witnessed a turtle stuck on it's back it sort of became a bored habit of hers. Everyone had those embarassing quirks about them; this was one of her own that manifested even in public.
"I wonder what everyone is up to back home." she pondered aloud as she stared up at the clouds. The last thing she remembered was her parents getting ready to head out for the night and her being left alone with her cousin. When she first woke up in this world she panicked but then she remembered that none of it mattered now. He was probably alright and she would never have to see any of them again. Thats what she thought she wanted but deep down in the back of her mind she knew that was not true.
Then her mind flashed to her comrades; the Vylbrand Academy. She was less alone in this world than in the previous despite barely knowing most of them. The only ones she had a read on where Saskia and Pen though even that revealed little. It was the first time she felt comfortable enough to allow herself to be a part of something and it was a strange feeling. Lu wondered why she stayed most days but in the end reminded herself that there was power in numbers. Was that truly the reason she stayed though?
Finally unable to deal with her own thoughts she sat up and blinked her eyes. Had she really been here so long that the sun was starting to rise over the horizon? How quickly time could fly when you were being tormented by feelings you had no control over. Looking for a way to distract herself, Lu decided that she would pick some flowers and then give them to someone. It was the time of year where people liked to recieve such gifts after all.
After several minutes of picking around thorns Lu had gathered quite a lovely bouqet of flowers. The only problem now was that she was a loner and had no one to give them to. What a hopeless situation she found herself stuck in.
"Stupid festival." she exclaimed aloud not realizing she was no longer alone. |

Though she could probably do without the occasional monster roaming around, this place had definitely become Ilya's favorite place ever since being trapped in this strange world. Whether she wanted to grind against some monsters or simply needed a peaceful place to relax, this had quickly become her go-to place for doing either one. She sure as hell prefers this over a forest or a cave. Or a heavily-crowded city, for that matter. It probably had a lot to do with the flowers. She had always liked them a lot, so finding a field filled with them was definitely a welcome surprise when she finally went out and explored this bizarre world.
The only thing that she didn't like was that she didn't have very many friends to enjoy the scenery with. Sure, she did have a few friends, but Ilya was a bit paranoid about contacting them, fearing they might be busy with something else, or that they simply wouldn't want to spend any time with her. Admittedly, she wasn't quite as cripplingly timid as she was before, but it was still pretty bad, and she still had a lot of trouble approaching strangers. Once she'd gotten to know them a little more, she was able to relax a bit. It was an improvement, but she still had a ways to go.
Nevertheless, as she wandered aimlessly throughout the grove, immensely enjoying the large amount of flowers, she was in for a pleasant surprise when she spotted a familiar Fox Tail from not far away. Immediately, she smiled softly, as she was certainly one of the more interesting people she had met in this world. They had met in the forest, along with another (male) Fox Tail, and a female Wolf Hair. Amusingly, Ilya felt slightly left out, being the only one without animal-like ears and a tail. Still, she enjoyed herself as they sat and talked about various things, then eventually parted ways. It was one of her fonder memories.
Though she still felt a bit hesitant at first, she approached Luiniel with a smile, this time being careful not to startle her like she did when they met the first time she approached her and the other two mentioned above. That was rather awkward, and she still felt kinda bad about that. As usual, her words were soft-spoken, but they didn't seem to carry as much of the shyness as they did when they first met "Hello...um...Luiniel, right? We met in the forest, remember? I have to admit, I wasn't expecting to see you out here..." Obviously, she didn't mean anything bad by that. Just, for some reason, she didn't she like the type to come to a place like this.
Still, even though she sucked at small talk, she was doing her best to make herself get used to it. Thus, she continued "A-anyway...how have you been doing? Well, I hope..." She still felt rather awkward, but little by little, this whole "talking to people" thing was slowly getting a little easier for her. She won't be giving any speeches anytime soon, but she would be fine for things like this; more or less. Regardless, it was still nice to see a familiar face. That said, there was one that she was curious about "...um...if you don't mind my asking...what is this about a festival?...I...er...well, I couldn't help but overhear..."

bittersweet. Lu started at the flowers for quite some time as if they were her mortal enemy. The way they smelled, shook gently in the breeze, all of it was a slight against her. Never before in the real world had she recieved any so then why should she gift them to anyone? Maybe she was being a mizer but then again she had no one around to tell her so. She was just about to throw the bouqet away when she heard foot steps coming from behind her. Her ear twitched which was a clear sign that she was aware of Ilya this time.
Turning to face the elf, Lu looked rather goofy standing there covered in dirt and holding flowers. Not wanting anyone to see her like this she did her best to try and hide them behind her back. Her cheeks flushed a slight pink colour before returning to their normal fair tone. This was the second time she was taken by surprise though this time she was not startled into defense mode.
"Err, r-right. I wasn't expecting to run into anyone else out here. Not with the festivities going on in town." she said with a nervous chuckle. She was a girl picking flowers all by her lonesome, there was nothing strange about it, not at all. Distracting herself from her funk she forced her best smirk as she found something else to focus upon. "I've been dying of boredom. Now that you're here though, I think I'll be just fine." she teased with grin.
It seemed that Ilya was just as misinformed as she was about this week. No one wanted to be ambushed with this nonsense so she supposed it was best to spare her that. "Oh, that? The Cocnia Festival is going on right now in the major cities. It mirrors the real world celebration of Valentines Day I believe." she explained. Honestly she wasn't sure if that was entirely accurate but she knew that it was close enough to the truth.
"They have Cocnia vendors all over the streets and uh.. speed dating.." she said. It was an awkward and touchy subject so she would not mention right now that she had signed up. "Instead of dealing with the crowds I came out here to think." she said scratching her cheek. Then it dawned on her that Ilya was out here alone as well which meant she must have been thinking the same perhaps? Or maybe she just came out here to admire the lovely flower garden where Lu often came to think.
"I don't suppose you're hiding from the madness too, ne?" she asked as she tilted her head to the side. A woman with an appearance like hers would probably do just fine during this festival she imagined. Then again they were beset on all sides by the online gaming community and the high levels of awkward that came with that. |

Initially, Ilya was rather curious as to what Luiniel was hiding behind her back. After all, she wasn't exactly subtle about it. But, ultimately, she decided not to question it. At least, not right at this moment. More than anything else, she was curious about this festival that she Luiniel had mentioned. Though, that line of thought was briefly interrupted when she other girl did a bit of teasing, causing her to blush lightly. "I-I see...I-I don't know if that's a good thing though...I-I mean. It's not like I'm especially interesting..." Ah, the wonders of a low self-esteem and crippling insecurities. They certainly didn't do Ilya any good.
Nevertheless, as she went on to explain what was going on about the festival, she looked as though something had finally clicked in her brain. "Oh! So that's why it was so crowded when I went outside earlier. I didn't even know there was supposed to be a festival today...though, looking back, it probably should have been obvious..." Well that was one mystery solved. However, at the mention of Valentine's Day, there was a very brief look of bitter sadness on her face. It didn't take a genius to figure out what that was about. It was a wonderful holiday for everyone who had someone to spend it with. Ilya, unfortunately, did not.
Regardless, she did her best to just forget about all of that. When asked if she was out here for the same reason, Ilya paused for a bit to think. "...well, I guess that's technically true. Like I said, I didn't even know there was a festival going on today, though, I did come out here to get away from all the chaos. Though, it has a lot less to do with the festival itself, and more with the the simple fact that I'm not a fan of large crowds. And this is one of the few places that rarely gets crowded, so I often come here when I need a place to relax and let my mind wander..."
Either way, with all of that out of the way, Ilya's curiosity was finally getting the better of her. With a (surprisingly mischievous) smile, she started to peek around the Fox Tail "So...I've been wondering. What is it you're hiding behind your back?"

bittersweet. If only she knew how much more interesting she was than the nonsense going on back in the city. Lu was not a fan of crowds either to be quite honest. They didn't make her nervous or anything it was just easy to get pushed around when you were short like she was. It was a hard life being such a small and angry human but it seemed that her reasons to be annoyed some days were endless. Today, despite what was going on, she was actually in a very pleasant mood.
"Believe me it is a good thing." she replied before watching the girl seemingly stumble over her own words. She was one of those people, nervous and insecure when interacting with others. It was unfortunate but people like that made easy targets when she wanted to tease someone. "You're a tall elven woman with bi-" she started and cut herself off before finishing that statement.
Lu laughed at herself as she was not paticularly embarassed as she often forgot to filter herself. Coughing to clear what was most likely an awkward silence caused by her she smiled brightly. "Needless to say without knowing anything about you, you kind of stand out." she said with a chuckle. Her world famous friend making skills were in full swing, soon she would have her where she wanted her (though most likely she would punch Lu).
The brief frown that crossed Ilya's face was not unnoticed by the tiny samurai who quickly made up her mind about something. If she was alone today and Ilya was alone perhaps they could distract one another with reminiscing about the real world or a quest of some kind. "Yeah it is pretty quiet out here. I usually come here to think where people aren't running about or shouting about their guilds." she said with a grin.
It seemed that her little hobby was not going to go unnoticed so she let out a deep sigh and showed the woman her bouqet. It was hand made and the flower arrangements weren't that bad though you could tell it was more of a hobby than profession. "I decided to make a bouqet and give it to the first person I felt deserved it. So far I think that's you." she said wiggling her brows at the elf. She was teasing again but she held the flowers out anyway to the woman.
"Please kind madam, accept my token on this day of eternal love!" she bellowed in a playful tone as she got down on her knees and presented them like a blade. She held the bouqet over her bowed head, probably a bit much and embarassing if people had been around indeed. "You have discovered my most secret of hobbies." she said with a chuckle.
"Please, do not tell anyone else." she added quickly. |
