It had been a normal day so far for Steel the Swashbuckler. He had just come back from a shorter than usual hunting day. Normally, he hunted for about 9 hours at least on a daily basis but today for some reason, he had only gone out for about 3 hours. He couldn’t really find much motivation to fight for so long. All of the fighting that he’s been doing for the past while had become more of a habit and because of that, he couldn’t feel as much excitement. Steel figured that doing something different today would relieve him of this problem. Maybe he could do some scribe work. Steel then shook that idea out of his mind because he couldn’t think of anything that needed to be crafted. As he continued to walk around he heard a voice come from behind him.
“There he is!” An angry person said from behind Steel as he pointed at the Swashbuckler. Behind the angry man was a large group of more angry guys. “Get him!” They all shouted before charging at him at full speed. Steel became slightly frightened and ran off. There is a reason why this little chase scene was taking place. Blame couldn’t really be put on either side as the chasing side had their own justified reasons for being angry and for Steel, it was a complete accident. However, the situation that unfolded here was a bit extreme. Why did this have to happen? Steel thought to himself as he thought back to how this all started…
Flashback…
“I wonder what to do today?” Steel asked himself as he walked the streets of Londonium a while back. Probably because he went out hunting countless mobs every day for 2 weeks straights, doing that for about 12 hours each day. Not to mention, he was always doing it by himself. It was no wonder the mental exhaustion was starting to catch up to him. And for that reason, Steel decided that a change of pace for a day or two was necessary. In fact, he was wondering why he hunted that long in the first place. It was then he realized he didn't have many friends to go on adventures with all the time. "Well, hopefully nothing will go wrong." He whispered to himself. Right after he said that, he had bumped into someone. When he turned to see who it was, it was a girl and there was a guy that was right next to her, presumably her date for the day. "You okay there?" He asked the girl he bumped into as he offered a hand to help her up. As that happened, romantic sparkles came from and put the girl in a slight love sick like trance. This did not go unnoticed by the guy who was her boyfriend and that guy became irritated at Steel. Wait a minute… He began to think in a slight panic.
"What do you think you're doing, hitting on my girl?" The guy said as he got a hold of Steel's collar. It seemed he didn't know about the Courtesan ability or it's just that he was pissed that his date became like that. Not that his rage was completely unreasonable. Steel hurriedly turned the skill off, snapping the girl out of her little trance. I hate how this skill acts like a running gag!! Steel exclaimed in his mind before using martial arts to escape his captor's grip and jumped back.
"Sorry about that!" Steel exclaimed before running off. He hoped that he wouldn't be chased by that guy although he probably would. In fact, it was even worse and that guy had gotten even more guys to chase after him all due to a similar situation.
Back to present time…
So basically, the angry mob that was chasing after him was chasing Steel because they thought that he was trying to steal their girls. Either way, Steel had to figure out a way to get out of this. “It’s time I became a shadow one more.” Steel said to himself as he began to do his specialty, misdirection. He had the ability to redirect the attention of others and make himself scarce. Sometimes he has done this unintentionally and has ‘appeared out of nowhere’, shocking others around him. He found some marbles on the side of the road and got an idea. He picked them up and aimed for a certain part of the angry mob. With his target locked, he rolled the marbles there before running off again. One of the members of the mob stepped on the marbles and slipped, making his leg slip upward and kick the guy in front of him in the nuts. What happened after that was just chaos among the mob who were now focused on beating each other up. “What a bunch of idiots.” Steel said before jumping away to another street.
Now that his life wasn’t in danger anymore, for now anyway, Steel was back to thinking about what to do. As he was thinking that, he walked past the crafting request board that some people put requests on. This was to help people who didn’t have the crafting skills to make it themselves and person made objects tended to be of better quality. Steel looked up and down the request board, maybe trying o see if someone needed the help of a scribe. It’d give him something to do at least. Most of the requests were all for Blacksmiths and Tailors, some occasionally being for the woodcrafter and the alchemist. With all of these requests, it was hard to find one needing a scribe. After a bit of searching, he finally found one. It was from someone named Caenborg. Steel knew the name of the guildmaster of one of the more larger guilds in the area. The request was to make her a Grimoire. “That’s odd, I thought she was a Samurai, why would she need a Grimoire?” Steel asked himself but decided to shake that thought out of his head and just take the job. It would give him a little project today at least.
