The small room was perfect and good enough for the summoner to rest assured that the quiet inn was a good place to hide from the busy center of Londinium. An old wooden floor, many wooden desks, organized wooden shelves with many exemplars, a pile of books beside her and a great lit fireplace composed the perfect environment for her. The warmth and the light from the fire soothe her tired skin from hunting for such a long time before even gathering information about this world within the starting city, Londinium. Since she focused on leveling her main class, Fluffy now had enough gold and supplies to think about what to do with her crafting class, which was a hard task for the summoner to manage since she had no information on her database about this unknown science named after Alchemy. Of course, there were some information from the digital world she acquired before and it could’ve helped her understand the new field. The problem is that they were all fictional or archaic forms of chemistry.
That’s right. Fluffy would need to start off from scratch and understand it the best way she could. The summoner could easily change her crafting class to something else and create many advanced things thanks to her database information, but truth be told, she wasn’t a machine anymore. A human mind worked in such a distinct way that accessing her database - now her mind and memories - was a tough work. Therefore, the best the AI could do for now was stick to that unknown science and hope it was worth her time. Picking up the very first book on the pile beside her, she opened it, eyes blazing through the content.
- Conjecture. – As if talking to herself, she started. – Could it be that Fluffy acquired the ability to read human language when turning into one? The process of asking questions unconsciously and without permission from the main line of processing is also becoming usual.
Turning the first page, her eyesight focused on the title right after it.
"The Unfounded Kingdom – Nation with a Lost Destiny" Her eyes slightly sharpened for a split moment, it seems that it was a lucky move to pick that book. There wasn’t any information on its cover, and opening them one by one would take too much time, given how many there were in the library of the inn. Time was precious, and she couldn’t afford to lose it and besides, any information was a valuable resource in that world and Fluffy wanted to do the best she could to turn it into a better place to live. The Summoner started to understand that almost everything felt different than what it’s supposed to be like in the real world. So far, the experience has been great for her, but many fellow adventurers were in despair. It’s been a week since “the Catastrophe” happened and yet many humans seem to not overcome their selves and start adapting to this world. Because of this, Information needs to be gathered as soon as possible for technological purposes. Another page went by.
“It is with great satisfaction that I write within this new piece of knowledge. So many years already went by, uncountable number of allies had fallen, many stories collected and told for the next generation. This is discovery process worth a whole life, and that is mine, this man’s which hands tremble with joy. For you whose eyes’ slide across this paper, may your path be full of adventures and discoveries fueled by your soul. I wish you all good luck and humbly ask you to make the most use of this book.”
Those words resulted in an internal smile. Unfortunately, her face wasn’t cooperating, so expressions were something impossible to show for now.
“For you who adventures in this yet to be fully explored world, the usage of the tablets of hope is necessary. Those can be summoned by anyone who ever fought against a monster or works in any kind of way related to battle. Once your very first enemy is defeated, it will show up for the first time. They are composed of magical tablets that hover on your vision, and only you can see them. These show your information, and how far you’ve progressed.”
- Fact. – the summoner mumbled – This archive gives a culture-based name for the user interface. It seems that this could be the name given by the author, but I cannot guarantee every person of the land uses it. To be honest, I haven’t seen any battle proficient lander up until now, but that might be just me.
She continued reading, but most of the content there was about basic understandings of the world. There wasn’t much content either, as the book was rather thin and old. At the very least it provided her with some information about the past of what the landers call the unfounded kingdom. A few minutes passed and she finished the book. Closing it, she putted the archive on a shelf full of them. Returning to the coach she started reading another one, and like that kept reading the pile.
- Bored. Many of these bits of information are already known by the database. It is therefore uninteresting!
Unconsciously raising her voice some other adventurers and people of the land stared at her, but she didn’t notice at all. Picking another book to read, heavy rain started to pour down in Londinium, startling the summoner, which resulted in one book falling from the desk and make a loud noise thanks to the silence the library had within it. Another wave of stares had thrust through Fluffy.
When picking up the book, she found the cover interesting. Unlike most of the books, it had a worn-out bright green color; golden adorns in the shape of simple circles and no title. Just that cover alone brightened up her heart – and not by any means reacted in one single expression – helping her recover from the boredom state.
-Excited. The unusual way in which this fragment of bits is presented implies that it might have useful information!
As the rain grew stronger, so did the stares at the girl.

It was time to hit the books. No, not literally hit the books, you muscleheads reading this post. I'll hit you with a book like in the "READ A BOOK" gif.
Anyway. We're talking about alchemy. The magical crafting art can be said to be a mixture of chemistry with a supernatural twist is one of the most elusive crafting fields available. Everyone knows that much of the life in this world has an affinity to mana, which was otherwise known as concentrated psyche, where some others refer to it as soul energy, MP... Really, this was overly complicated and half of these books were mostly about the philosophy around the element. She supposed that it had some backing in religion because apparently the most avid sages studying the substance believed in Elemental Theory. It was supposed a science-based religion that focused upon finding the right balance of anima and psyche to sustain or even create life. A pretty radical aspect on science, she had to say. In any case, because alchemy wasn't as intuitive as crafting a sword out of metal or a blanket out of wool, there wasn't much she could do other than check out what other researchers had to say on the topic. While Apocrypha did have its own library in Buckingham Palace, much of those books were old grimoires that seemed incomprehensible with her current knowledge. There had to be a whole new language based on this field alone or something.
Her searching had led her to a small library inside an inn, which was a little impressive in itself. She had originally figured that other than the many rooms available, most inns simply consisted of a lobby, a guest room, dining facilities, and possibly an entertainment room. It would appear this particular one featured a small collection of books, many of which were diverse in genre and nature. The owner must have been fairly wealthy, probably having enjoyed the small share of fortune that Murdoc Inns had brought to the Londinium economy a while back. Oddly enough, she didn't hear about a secret stock market system anymore. Perhaps they went underground.
Midori glanced around the room and contributed to the mass of people staring as a girl had loudly dropped a book onto a table in the distance. The other guests in the room were few, making the sound all the more apparent. Regardless, they continued on with their conversations afterward, leaving the distant bookworm to her research. Midori was curious as she approached the table, sampling the titles of the books already pulled from the stack. Just as she approached, she overheard the short-haired magician at the desk muttering things that were supposedly to herself, yet were audible enough that nearby individuals could hear. One man in particular mentioned something to his companion along the lines of "come on, all this nerdy talk is hurting my brain." Midori gave a nervous smile.
The raven-haired girl pulled a different book from the shelf and began to browse through its contexts. "The Infusion of Psyche into the Inanimate". It was an interesting premise, given how Alchemists seemed to study on creating special technology called magitech. Midori pulled it from the shelf and sat down at an adjacent chair as she skimmed through its pages for anything worth noting. With her right index finger, she pointed to the interface before her and summoned a small white object that materialized from the air and gently plopped down into the space between her body and the edge of the desk. It was a plushie pillow in the shape of a seal, her own personal memento from one of her best friends who she was currently roommates with back at her personal home in the Snowdonia Mountains. She had never really realized why Charry had felt the need to get away from society for a little bit, but she had offered that housing situation and the other girl had accepted. Still, even apart, the girl at least had a reminder of her friend with her at all times. She gently hugged the pillow lightly to her chest and leaned against the desk, as though slightly squishing the plushie as she read on.
Nevertheless, at that moment, the pile of books that had accumulated on the other girl's desk became unstable and before long, one book in particular had fallen from the stack. Supposedly the one book that fell off the table was distinctive from the others in that it wasn't a boring black or brown leather book. In fact, it was a strange green color with goldleaf decorations. It looked more like a grimoire rather than a regular book, if she were to appraise its nature. The other girl picked it up and browsed through it while speaking with a rather unusual mannerism in her speech. Hearing this, Midori couldn't hear but give her own insight. She straightened her sitting posture for a moment as she stretched her body, arms pointed toward the ceiling, before returning to a similar posture. She was now holding the seal plushie with both hands with a fairly loose grip as her eyes glanced over to the other girl.
"Well, as they say, 'don't judge a book by its cover.'"

- Anger, grrr. The statements seem solid and introduces new and probably useful information. However, no in-depth logical procedures are given. As much as the data displayed are consistent and interesting, it is sad that there are so many incomplete lines with this “magic” function in it, making it hard to assimilate the overall meaning of the book.
After a soft sigh, a distinct sound wave reached Fluffy’s ears alarming her of incoming communication. The human body sure was something. Slightly lifting her head, Fluffy observed the jet-haired girl that just spoke to her, finally noticing some stares at her direction. A meager blush filled her cheeks with red. Anxiously playing with her hair, she glanced away in an attempt to calm down, since being the center of attention wasn't something she particularly strived for and neither looking like a weirdo.
- Apologetic. I had no intention of disturbing your reading. Overcoming… - she paused for a split second - certain kinds of problems that carried over to this world have been proven to be extremely difficult sometimes.
Within an instant, she made the decision to not reveal her real world identity to anyone, at least, not for now. Arphes was well known on the other side, and the fact that she’s not even human originally could sever her communication possibilities in this world. Even if she wanted to go back and take care of her creator, that would need to wait. She coughed, continuing right after it.
- Disagree. The saying stated is certainly composed of wise words, but not everything from our world may have the same effect here. Take this book as an example. It does fit on what you’ve said, however, we must consider that we are possibly in an alternate reality from the game. In that case… Most highlighted content usually means consistency and quality. Also, you have great taste for stuffed toys, it is cute.
That’s right. The most basic proof was the way how everyone started, wearing basic equipment that had nothing to stand out. Her dull blue eyes fixed for a moment on analyzing her eyes, trying to define its ambiguous color. Arphes wanted to give her a warming smile and talk with a friendly voice, but unfortunately, couldn’t. That made her sad, but she should overcome it.
- Introduction. I am Fluffy, it is nice to meet you. I would like to meet you at better circumstances – her eyes drifted off to the window, heavy rain pouring down and after that to those who stared at her before. – but it seems that this is not possible anymore.
Following that, she started to read the contents of the book in a desperate attempt to understand the concepts of magic in the game, while still paying some attention to the other mage. Fluffy knew what was magic, but applying it in reality started to make her get lost in many questions. It was magic after all, and the idea of teaching that to a machine smells like trouble. With a heavy sigh Fluffy closed her book glancing towards Midori.
- Embarrassed. This is something that I can’t understand and can't tell how it works no matter how simple it looks like to anyone. May I ask you what do you understand of the function definer also known as "magic"?
At that moment, the red on her cheeks intensified. Ignorance was always one of her fears, and avoiding them was top priority, even if it meant to ask something so obvious to others.

The main thought that came to mind as Midori listened to how the other girl spoke was, quite simply, 'this was a really odd girl.' She immediately caught onto the chestnut-haired bookworm's speech style. It was quite objective, starting off by declaring either her mood or sentence intention with a single word, only to follow up with a string of logical statements. It was the kind of unique style that piqued Midori's own curiosity. Yet, she knew that uniqueness was often seen as a point to use against someone, at least in the real world. She was British-Japanese in the real world and there was another metaphor for this kind of situation - 'the nail that sticks out gets hammered down'. It would have been pretty easy for someone of this girl's mannerisms to be bullied back in the real world, which just made her a little more interested in wanting to listen to her. Midori herself wasn't really bullied in a sense, but her own cultural background made it difficult sometimes to interact with other people. It may have been modern times, but there was still a sense of racial discrimination in modern-day Britain.
Nevertheless, whether the other girl intended or not, she had attracted a decent amount of attention not only with Midori, but with other guests in the room. She wondered what was with them, but a few of them looked like middle-aged Landers who were here simply to shelter themselves from the rain. Older adults tended to be like that, staring at these kids who just seemed entirely different from them. And then you just know they're looking at you from the corner of your eye, but you try to ignore it. The other girl continued on, explaining her predicament. It seemed that the book she was reading seemed incomplete in a sense. Particularly, the lines that describe the nature of magic were either cryptic or not on the page at all. Midori had stood up from her chair to glance at the tome, raising a slight eyebrow in the process. Was it a grimoire after all?
Her brief concentration was interrupted by the girl's comment on her stuffed animal tastes. Midori gave a slight blush and momentarily veered her eyes off into the distance. "A-ah, thank you." In all actuality, though the seal was indeed very cute, she had originally chosen this one for her dear friend. And given the circumstances, the two of them had held onto each others' plushies as a sign of their friendship. A warm feeling passed through her mind for the moment as she turned her attention back to what the other girl had to say. It was an introduction. The other girl introduced herself as 'Fluffy'. Midori made a slight smile as the other girl finished off by apologizing for the circumstances to their meeting, as though to give a sense of reassurance. "Nice to meet you, Fluffy." It felt a little weird as though she was talking to someone's pet rather than a person. But unless the other girl should open up and tell her other alternate names to say, that was all she had. "I'm Midori. And well, I don't think this is such a bad setting to have a chance encounter. Likeminded people tend to gather in similar places and given the weather outside," she gave a glance toward the window, seeing a boy outside run down the street with newspaper to cover his head at that moment. "I'd say we might not have met had the weather been any different."
Following that introduction, the other magician attempted to read the book once again, but failing to comprehend it, closed it and turned to address Midori with a question.
"Well, if you were to consider how the magician classes work, magic is something that converts the body's mana into phenomenon that affects our surroundings." she would have given an example using her former Sorcerer techniques but she wasn't a Sorcerer anymore. Heretics were also treated with a bit of prejudice even in this city, which was the reason why she normally set her own interface to hide her true class's title. Most people would just look at her attire and stats, thinking her high MP value was indicative of her being a mage and leaving it at that. "Of course, it's something that's not always that simple because we don't really have much of a comparison in the other world as you said. That said, let me take a look at that book."
She walked over to Fluffy's desk and leaned over to reach the green and gold book and open its pages with her dominant hand. This was definitely not just any ordinary book as some of the pages seemed to fade away particularly when something interesting was about to be stated. She had a hunch though. Stretching her five fingers outward, she rested her palm upon the surface of the page and activated the Mythic Script skill. At that moment, something from inside the book manifested itself. Traces of mana gathered from the air and the boundaries of the book and collected onto the page as they started to form words, filling in all the missing sentences on the page.
"This is a grimoire... Some of it you can only read when you have the Mythic Script skill but otherwise I'm wondering what it's used for." Most grimoires designed for battle use were written with magical ink rather than mana itself, allowing for the mage classes to read and use them in combat. This book on the other hand seemed to be written with mana as a form of secrecy to hide some of its context. "I wonder what a book like this is doing in this place." She wasn't sure what it would have looked like from Fluffy's perspective. She knew that Half-Alvs usually had the ability to catch onto the magic casting just fine and vaguely see mana. But she wasn't sure if the other girl was a Half-Alv. There was a stereotype that Half-Alvs usually picked magic-based classes but it was quite likely the other girl was simply human too. And it was just, without the Mythic Script skill, Midori likely would have to be the one to primarily interpret what's written between the lines.
Figuring that this would take a bit of time, Midori set her seal pillow down right next to the book as she walked over to her desk. She promptly pulled over her chair just so the two magicians could sit next to each other and observe the contents of the book. This felt a bit nostalgic, like some sort of elementary school storytime alongside a stuffed animal that the school librarian would have had in the library for kids to lean against.
"Would you tell me what you were able to understand from this book? Maybe I can fill in the blanks from what I'm able to read."

- Answer. No need to thank me. It is the truth.
Her dull eyes were fixed on Midori all the time, when she glanced away, when her slight smile appeared on her face. All those motions were simply fantastic for Fluffy. Everything was totally new for her, since that was her first interaction with someone else other than her creator. Even with said person, all the data she gathered were codes, and they never showed her any traces of what a human would look like. The mage before her slowly started to be her inspiration; she wanted to be like that. Fluffy wanted to smile, to execute similar motions. Filling her with a strange mix of both sadness and motivation, her first contact with another human hasn’t been so bad. Maybe the raven-hair girl was right about like-minded people after all. But no matter what, Fluffy's body and spirit seemed to not match at all.
- Interested. In that case, magic uses the mana, a probable energy source and turns into physical manifestations? The procedure seems correct – she pressed the air with her index finger activating the user interface and opening up her status tab – since some of the values shown by the user interface are split between physical and magical. But if its property is physical then there is no point in splitting them. Midori, is magic related in any way to what is named “spirit”?
That word made fluffy’s mind delve into her now biological data. At some point in the real world, she had a similar conversation with her programmer. At that time, Fluffy was nothing but a simple prototype with many flaws, but could save information on her memory. Within one of the countless test procedures she was submitted to, she took the first step to sentience. The very first word that she saved on her memory by herself was exactly the same word muttered by her to Midori, when talking about human emotions with her creator.
Fluffy snapped from her deep thoughts as Midori approached. She explained what that book was and how one should read it, and wondered why such a unique book was in that inn’s unusual library. The other mage – presumably from her high amounts of mana – sat beside Fluffy. The heat and feeling of another living beingthat meant no harm for one’s self was new to Fluffy as well. Midori asked what parts of the book she could read. The truth is she knew almost nothing , not only because the words were unreadable for her, but the concept itself confused the mage’s biological mind.
- Confusion. After you used that… “magic” process there is no blanks left, but I can’t read the words. – She elevated her thumb to below her chin, thinking.
The content of the grimoire vaguely resembled something that she could guess. Not because of magic and its concepts, or even be able to read what was in there; but the content had an interesting shape. The way it had two words highlighted and a decent number of words after it just like a description gave the summoner the feeling that those words had something to do with a research or report. The same format of text was present on the next page, which made her take a temporary conclusion.
- Conjecture. While I cannot understand much of it, taking into consideration the shape of text shown in these pages it reminds me of something well organized, just as if each couple of these highlighted words – she pointed her index at one of the words in the grimoire – mean some kind of process – this time, she pointed at the possible "description" - with a result. Unfortunately, it is just a guess. Other than that, I am afraid I can’t understand anything.

[attr="class","polarisB"] [attr="class","girtabB"] [attr="class","gifB"] [attr="class","backgroundsinisterB"] [attr="class","stardustB"] [attr="class","starduskB"] [attr="class","lockedroomB"] [attr="class","psychelockB"] [attr="class","murasakB"] Pay the price of karma and let's go together.
"Indeed. It's not something that has an exact equivalent in the other world, but it does work similarly enough. If electricity can power a machine and allow it to perform a number of complex things, it should be very similar with mana that's being manipulated by magical power. In fact, I think that's one of the core principles behind how magitech is supposed to work. I suppose it's difficult to not be able to draw from real life experience when you're trying to research how everything works, but maybe that's not a bad thing at all. I think that just makes it a little more flexible because of that. The physical-magical split isn't something that's entirely foreign either. If you consider that the human body, at its smallest units, work to a level where chemical signals are able to cause physical manifestations like moving your arm, it starts to feel similar and more significant in a sense."
In a sense, she was far from being the most ideal person to try and emulate. Whereas she was unknowingly speaking with a person whose personality was not of a true human nature, she also had a tendency to act more differently from how others of her age normally would act. Midori quite obviously showed introverted traits. She was normally very quiet and avoided interaction unless she felt there was something for her to contribute into the conversation. She was shy and would often hold back her opinions and thoughts unless she knew someone well enough. But she felt that sometimes, that personality sometimes got in the way of being able to become better friends with other people. She really wanted to show some of her closest friends how much they meant to her and she often knew what she needed to do, but there was a great disconnect between knowing what to do and being able to find the motivation and courage to do it.
It was rather complicated to talk about. Her motivation and mindset commonly drew from the people around her. She didn't really have resolve or ambition of her own, as many of her own goals would have turned out to be something that others had set for her. This was why the transition from the real world into the world of Elder Tale had given her mixed feelings. On one hand, she did miss the everyday lifestyle back in the real world, a routine sequence that had not been very difficult to deal with. And yet, once she had realized that this world had become reality, Midori had felt the anxiety of not knowing anything about this new world, much less being able to set any goals for herself. And yet there was also a sense of hidden joy as she had really started to feel alive from that moment forward. There had been a bunch of ups and downs from her adventure so far, but she felt as though it all had meaning to her.
This girl was also a very odd person like herself. Midori had noticed a few things about her new acquaintance, particularly the curious atmosphere that seemed to loom around her. It was often rather difficult for the girl to make close friendships with other people because there were usually some characteristics about them that would make her feel as though she wasn't welcome. They would tend to talk with her politely enough, but when it came down to decisive moments, she knew she wasn't a big priority to them most of the time. This girl was different, observing her as though she were the most interesting thing in the world. She seemed to have a mindset that was nearly too logical and yet, every time Midori would say anything, she would have a response almost immediately. One would figure logic and emotion didn't seem to go together very well, but Fluffy's attention on her was very welcoming and made the little magician feel more comfortable opening up. This was very similar to the feelings she felt when she was around her dear friend whose memento was right beside her at that moment.
"Spirit..." she placed a finger to her lower lip as she thought for a moment. It was getting to be a bit of a philosophical question, so she wouldn't be able to have an answer that would truly be able to answer the topic completely. "Well, there's a lot of definitions for what magic could be. Many Landers especially seem to think that it is a bit more of a spiritual nature, rather than something you can truly comprehend with just reasoning alone." She was starting to get confused by her own definition as well. Typically her mind would think of a train of thought that was often difficult to convey to others. "Spirit, however... I'm not very sure myself. I think spirit is something that can be realized once your heart is aligned to what you wish to do with your magic. Let's say you're a Cleric." She actually didn't check the other girl's character statistics beyond noticing her high MP:HP ratio. It seemed mage-like but she didn't think the other girl would have been a healer. If she was, then maybe her words might have been easier to understand. "Your friend is in danger, so you cast a healing spell. If this were just a game, then no matter what the circumstances were, you would likely heal them for close to the same amount every time. Yet, it's a little more complicated than that. People have been saying that because they feel that they really want to help their friends, they've been able to heal for stronger than they expected. So I say spirit is something that is different. It's not something that can be observed like mana, but it exists and whether it'll manifest depends on how closely you feel toward someone. I hope that makes some sense..."
After she had used Mythic Script to make words appear, Fluffy expressed her confusion that although now she was able to see words, it didn't make any sense to her. Come to think of it, Midori had never really thought about being able to truly read the words that appeared in these magical books. Sometimes she would look at a page and see nothing but archaic runes that otherwise would make no sense to her. But for some reason, perhaps by the magical influence of the book and symbols themselves, she was able to comprehend their meaning. "It's very strange. I speak as though I'm able to read and translate what's written here, but if you look closely at it..." she eyed one of the specific words that the other girl had pointed directly at. It was hard to describe other than being some sort of mix between fancy cursive and character-based script much like how Chinese characters and Japanese kanji are like. "It's clearly not English. And yet for some reason, it seems to say something to me." she traced her finger over the page and spoke what had came to her mind at that moment. "Rest your dear heart, young traveler. For though your journey has been long, the road ahead is still long. May your heart feel warm as you share your adventure alongside your friends and companions."
And at that moment, upon reaching the end of the sentenced she had placed her finger on, a small sphere of light about the size of a marble floated from the book into the air in front of the two mages. But as suddenly as they saw its existence, the sphere seemed to diffuse into the surrounding air. She didn't know what just happened, but she suddenly felt something rise up from deep in her heart. She suddenly pictured glimpses of events from the recent past that had brought her satisfaction. Things like the winter ball and the subsequent afterparty held by her guild. But why did these memories just appear in her mind? She figured it had something to do with this grimoire and she was beginning to understand what it was doing in a place like this after all.
"Did you feel something just now, Fluffy? I think something like this is what it means to understand what spirit is supposed to be. You may not know everything, but as long as you put your best effort to find out, the answer will come in time."

"I shall gladly become the wind of hope for you, my precious person."
WORDS:771
With a concise and yet consistent explanation, the concept of that science was finally starting to get clear for the summoner. If what he other mage said was right, then starting off from alchemy was much more practical than actually going through the mechanical route. Hundreds of possibilities started to run through her biological processor, forcing the mage into a trance of deep thought. She then snapped out of it once Midori started to answer her second question, the one about spirits.
Spirits. An unknown variable to her until now. Realizing what Midori said remembered her of what she always wanted to do – although limited by the other world – and never could do so. Help everyone, help those on the other side of the codes. Understand the world, understand life and try her best to make it better. The outcome wasn’t as she expected, since all of her sister operational systems were destroyed once the information about their sentience was revealed. Protected by her creator and father, she was the only one left. The thought of exposing herself and try to help humans and be erased like that was totally frightening even for her.
Then what should the little Fluffy do? Give in to her desires and fight for what she thinks that is right, or cower in a corner, fearing the evil humans? Her line of thought disrupted and started to confuse her to the point that no logical thinking could help her come to a conclusion. It did hurt to be suddenly forced to operate in a different physical form. As if time itself stopped for her, the mage finally came to a conclusion: that was fear. The summoner did not have any kind of fear towards the monsters she hunted, but from a simple conversation that required deeper thoughts with another human. She was naive to think that an AI like her was even close to be human. Sentience was nothing but one mere step among many to come.
Her trance was broken once Midori started to read what supposedly meant those weird words on the book’s page. Chills spread through her spine and covered her whole body as if those words were meant for her. Indeed, the mage had been through hardships before, but she was just in the beginning. Those words made her realize how foolish she was just a little ago on questioning what should she do and aim for in this world and how should she interact with humans. The act of sharing was what always put them together, and she wanted to make part of it.
Suddenly, a tiny ball of light rose up from the book and floated on the air for a split second before fading into it. Looking at it made Fluffy head back once again in her memories. She felt ashamed. All of her sisters in the whole world were destroyed. People started to fear her because she could be the next step to human extermination. Her sentience wasn’t welcomed and rather, feared. She wasn’t any human and probably would never be one. But despite all this, that man always stood beside her with no fear. He took all the weight on his shoulders even if sometimes the fault was Fluffy’s. She felt ashamed to doubt it all.
The warm tears rolled on her face while Fluffy herself did not show any expression thanks to the odd connection between her body and “spirit”. Some of the landers and adventurers looked at her, quietly, without spilling a word. Many stares only reinforced her guess that they probably knew how odd she was. But this time, Fluffy wouldn’t cower or fear. Just like someone once stood up for her, she’d do it on her own this time. The mage would not fear any human anymore, nor fear stepping into this unknown field. For a moment, what appeared to be a slight smile took place on her soft lips.
- Apologetic. I wasn’t honest up until now… - she wiped the tears with the back of her hands. – Can we start again? Fluffy is… A nick someone gave me once. Advanced Psychological Support Artificial Inteligence, Arphes. It is nice to meet you.
There was no back way now. She launched her hopes and the outcome was unknown. Fluffy didn’t know if Midori ever knew of her real world identity, but that didn’t matter anymore now. At that moment, Fluffy decided that she wanted to take another step on understanding those mysterious creatures, Humans. Her launched hopes were nothing but wishes of making her first friend in that new world. Midori

Her smile subsided a little as she opened her mouth slightly, concerned that tears were suddenly falling from her new companion's face. Given the context, there was not really anything to worry about, but she still couldn't help but feel a little concerned every time anyone would start to cry. Once the other girl had shown a smile of her own, it was only at that moment where she was reassured herself. She listened to the other girl apologize, requesting to restart their introductions. This time, she introduced herself by her real identity. It was not a name. Or rather, not a human name. It was the name of a program, an artificial intelligence. It stirred up a vague recollection from within her memory, of a time prior to Elder Tale.
She was silent for just a moment as she remembered a small portion of this particular event and her feelings toward it. But now she was beginning to put the pieces together and understand just what the circumstances were. She wanted to believe that the girl was indeed what she said she was. After all, there was no real long-term benefits in feinting such a concept. And besides, the reality was that they were in fact, transported to a whole new world where everything going on around them otherwise would have been fantasy. But that was real. And so she would believe that this too was real. That the girl in front of her was not in fact, a human. And yet that shouldn't change anything. For if the Landers were supposed to be originally NPCs, then what made this girl any different? She felt the tension from the other girl, the worry that what if she was not accepted for who she really was? That smile she was making right now was truly the culmination of her courage. One could say that courage was a human emotion, right?
Midori had made her decision as well, her perplexed expression softly changing back into the warm smile she had prior to the other girl's reaction to her grimoire reading. She had been in this kind of situation before, having had friends she wanted to comfort but yet she could not have mustered up her own courage to help them all the way. But the situation was different now. She now had her own support throughout this adventure and now she was ready to open up her heart again to welcome another friend. The girl lifted her arms a few inches above the ground, her hands unsure what to do and fingers lightly twitching. But now was the time to really show that her heart meant it. Midori quickly reached over to the other girl's hands and grasped them as she began to speak again.
"My name is Touko Satsuki. I'm a British-Japanese biological sciences student... I-I would like to be your friend."
A few moments passed, and she was not sure what to do next. A slight blush appeared on her face as she realized how if people had taken their eyes off the two for a bit, now they were watching them once again. Really, did they have nothing better to do than to watch them interact? Now these people in the inn were just uncomfortably staring at these two weird girls and really, it was just hard to ignore the eyes of these rather nosy people. She let go of Fluffy's hands, turning her eyes away from the other girl's glance, and considered what to do afterward. It seemed that the rain was still falling, but it was not as heavy as before and she did know of a few cafes or restaurants nearby. It was probably around lunchtime at the moment. Maybe it was a better idea to move before the situation got any awkward from them being essentially on display among the people gathered up in the room. Midori returned her gaze toward the brown-haired magician as she gave a bit of a suggestion.
"Would you also like to go somewhere nearby to eat for a bit? We can probably return to discussing about magic afterward."

WORDS:578 Warmth. Was that it? Midori’s hands were soft and delicate. The closest to body contact she ever had until now was nothing but scales, rigid skins, even trunks from treants; all of them wanted to bite off a piece of the summoner. But this contact was different. Not only the warmth itself, but the intention behind it made Fluffy realize what possibly friendship is.
After finally done wiping her tears, the magician glanced over her new friend. Midori kept a constant behavior; a gentle smile that would soften many people’s shell. This time around, however, her face had a slight blush, which awakened her curiosity. Could it be that that reaction was similar to Fluffy’s? Maybe something that she couldn’t necessarily control, and therefore require some external incentive? Fluffy’s mind kept on processing and processing. As no conclusive answer came to her mind, she nodded in response to what Midori said. Her new friend’s name was Touko Satsuki. The mage finally realized what triggered Midori’s reaction; many were looking at them.
- Agreement. We certainly should. Please let me just put these books in their respective shelves. - Fluffy got up leaning forward to pick up the pile of books at once, lowering her arms in a V shape to keep her balance.
One by one, she put them in the right place. When taking the grimoire, however, she took her time to decide. Fluffy could probably buy it for cheap from the innkeeper and take the grimoire with her. She glanced back to the desk they were both reading it, and finally deciding, put the grimoire back in its place, after all, it was thanks to it that the summoner met her first friend.
She then returned to the desk, waiting for Midori. Raising her right hand up to her chin, another powerful question invaded her biological system. While a bit hesitant, Fluffy couldn’t help but ask. Her stomach growled, Fluffy was hungry. She felt a bit sad, thanks to bad experiences with food on the first few days within Elder Tale.
- …Uneasy. Uhm… Will I need to, eh… Will I need to eat? – The summoner asked, hesitant.
Truth be told, Fluffy bought enough supplies from the lander shops before heading out for a whole week. Unfortunately, she never knew that they had no taste. The first few days were fine, since Fluffy never tasted anything. However, as the days passed, she couldn’t help but grow sick of the same flavor over and over again, despite the food looking different from each other. Slowly, the rain weakened.
- Suggestion. We should take our leave now. The rain is getting weaker. After waiting for Midori to catch up with her, she left the inn. The sky was still cloudy, and the water pouring on her skin was something totally new to her. Despite living in the wilds for at least a week, she never met a raining day. Her eyes scanned the surroundings, curious; London didn’t change much since the last time she was in there, but there were definitely a few different things. Following Midori, she soon enough found herself on the cafe.
Fluffy’s stare was fixed in a couple and how they were eating a dessert together with wide smiles and happy giggles. Her experience with food and the image she had in front of her now didn’t match. Unconsciously, the summoner took two steps back, her internal conflict noticeable thanks to her awkward silence.

"Let me help with some of it!" Midori went to put away the book that she had been reading, then went over to shelve some of the other books in the pile that Fluffy had taken out. She wasn't sure whether the books were placed in the right order - from her perspective, it seemed as though the majority of books on the shelves had a rather disorderly layout. It was to be expected from a public collection rather than a library or study of any sort. Nevertheless, she tried her best to slot in books of the same genre together. Which wasn't thoroughly difficult at all. Fluffy had been studying a lot about the properties of mana, so a lot of her shelving eventually ended up being assisting the girl and putting them where she said they were supposed to be.
In the end, there was only one book remaining and it was the fancy-binding grimoire. It seemed that despite being unable to read it, the book was having a bit of sentimental effect on the AI. She ultimately placed it back and walked back over to the desk to ask Midori a question. Does she need to eat? Midori's face had a bit of a curious expression, appearing a little confused at first but warming up to her prior smile after realizing what was going on. Certainly, the girl who was formerly an AI must have tried food on the first few days after the Apocalypse. It was a very uninspiring taste that caused Adventurers to try to come up with their own cooking styles. With a bit of ingenuity and common sense, cooking once again had taste on the second day.
Midori had tried dishes back on the first day and they all tasted like soggy biscuits. Even dry biscuits tasted like soggy biscuits. However, the ingredients always curiously retained their flavor and so it was then that the girl practically became a vegetarian for a few days. She had purchased enough fruit for herself to eat, cycling between strawberries and apples most of the time. It was by the time of discovery that she was relieved that good-tasting cooked food would actually be a reality. As much as she liked fruit, she didn't want to feel forced to eat healthy. The craving for other foods would have been too strong and she likely would have gone to change her subclass to Chef herself.
There was a brief lapse in the heavy rain that had fell over the city for a few hours. The sun gently popped out of an opening in the clouds, forming a small rainbow in the distance. It was certainly a good time to explore the city. As Midori walked together with her new friend, she noted the changes in architecture that had occurred in only a week. Streets where Adventurers had lay dejected and defeated on the ground were now being renovated and stores had started up from the previously deserted building fronts. It still gave the image of a ruined city, but one that was starting to grow back to life with the help of the Adventurers.
They finally made their way to a cafe and noticed a couple eating a dessert together. If she would look at the couple directly, she'd get a sense of loneliness because couples tended to always make the eternally single rather envious by comparison. However, that dessert... was a different story. She saw that the other girl had fallen silent, unsure what to do after seeing the two. Could it be that she hadn't ever had a meal before, hence thinking that the proper way to eat was... flirtatiously smearing the other's lips with whipped cream and then giving the other a kiss... okay, this was getting too much for her as well. "Let's see what they have!" Placing her hands on the other's shoulders, she led Fluffy into the cafe in order to see the menu placed on the back wall.
"Welcome to Adventurer's Cafe! Delicious food with familiar tastes!"
After they entered, practically all the employees within sight welcomed them in with a greeting. It seemed like a group of friends had decided to start it up together, which was indeed a motivational goal to start such a business of. And judging by the amount of guests inside the building, it was certainly working. Midori gave a smile back at them then returned her eyes back to the menu. "Burgers, fish and chips, soups, salads, coffee, smoothies, ice cream, crepes..." This was certainly quite a diverse menu. She wondered if Fluffy knew much about the food on the menu and whether she'd have to give any recommendations. "This is a bit of a hard choice... what do I feel like having today...?"

| | Out of all places, possibilities and jobs, it had to be in that cafe. Nutella sighed, looking at herself on a mirror, inside of the staff area of the restaurant, somewhat close to the kitchen. That waitress clothing was way too skimpy. She understood that Elder Tale was an MMO, and pretty much every of its kind had females with such clothing, but, this time around, these clothes were hand-crafted by player tailors! That’s too much! Where in the hell were their thoughts when making these!?Subtly, she pulled the tip of her black skirt in an useless attempt to show less skin. The reception bell rang as the man in the counter discreetly pointed at two girls that just arrived. The girl answered with a thumb up, turning around the large counter, heading towards the two customers. Once close enough, a large smile was drawn on her face, arms behind her back and a full-face blush. At the very least, she had a quick training to get ahead of all the requirements as a waitress, which actually helped a bit.- Welcome to the adventurers’ cafe! What would you like to order? We’re in the sweet’s day, so I’d advise you consider taking a look at our treats! – she pointed at the left-most side of the menu. – Today, all sweets are 20% off! Let me know if you are interested in any of them! While you wait, where would you like to sit? We have plenty of seats avaiable right now, since it's still early. It looked like the one with black twintails was going through a hard choice; Nutella only hoped that suggesting the treats would eventually net her some gold in the end. Her friend, with similar hair color, seemed quite curious, although a bit epressionless. Her eyes were scanning through every possible location inside the cafe, which made Nutella wonder if she has never been to a cafe. Could it be that she was a lander? One of the cafe's rules proihibited their employees of using the user interface function to read other adventurer's info, so Nutella could only guess. The waitress politely bowed before them, patiently waiting.

WORDS:394 Fluffy’s silence was broken by Midori’s touch on her shoulders. Slightly surprised by the sudden action, she tried to say something, but ended up quiet. Both of them entered the cafe that had a friendly aura all around it. There were some other adventurers hanging around and having fun; many smiles and laughs, another view Fluffy had never seen before, since the first day was full of confusion and pessimism of adventurers.
Midori seemed uncertain about what to order from the menu. Curious, Fluffy looked at it, somehow managing to understand part of what was it. Many of those names were part of her memories: perhaps deep inside of her forgotten programming lines she knew them to keep track of her users’ diet, maybe? Could it possibly be that one day she was supposed to be some kind of software to be used in many places around a house, such as a stove? Shaking her head, she left that line of thought behind.
- Question. Midori, what are those? – if she didn’t know, it was easier to just ask. Since none of them were part of the supplies she bought before, the best way to clear that doubt was to ask right away.
However, the fear of that same taste did not leave her mouth. Although her answer was a bit obvious, Fluffy wanted to innocently believe that they were going to do something else – anything – other than eating that evil variable known as “food”. A soft and welcoming greeting resounded from her left. Judging by her attire, Fluffy could tell that she worked on the cafe.
However, there was just one issue. The AI performed every procedure possible inside of her biological processor, but could not find any feasible answer. The weather was somewhat chilly thanks to the rain earlier. Humans were indeed strange creatures. Continuously, her gaze shifted between the waitress, Nutella, herself and Midori, trying to understand and questioning herself why their clothes were so different. Staring at the waitress, Fluffy spoke.
- Curious. Don’t you feel cold in that clothing? – the mage asked bluntly and impolitely, not knowing that was not the right timing nor the best question for the moment.
Her gaze shifted towards the menu again. She questioned herself again and again on why she could understand human languages. But that was something she’d probably never come to a final answer.
