It was some days after he had first set foot into this new, dangerous world. He'd had some experience with climbing up trees, as all cats should, but now it was time for the main objective of this game, or at least, what it was when it still was one. With his rapier drawn, Niver walked outside of Londonium and into the Windsor Greatwood, taking a deep breath as he looked around. After a few seconds, he sighed, looking down at the rapier he held. "Ugh...What am I doing? I'm walking into some dangerous area with this cheap clothing, a wimpy little sword, and nobody to help me. Not to mention, I have no idea how any of this works..." Taking a few steps back, he once again looked around; noticing nothing, he breathed a sigh of relief. "Okay, I think I'll be safe for now. May as well learn what some of this does...Uhh..." With his free hand, he poked forwards at the air, and jolted back as the menu appeared. "Wah! D-don't do that! Well...Not so fast...Geez, that still gets me by surprise." Pacing back and forth, he rested his chin above his paw, muttering to himself. "Y'know, what if that happened in everyday conversation? Like, 'Oh, look at that pretty cloud!' 'Where is it?' 'Over there!' And then, they point to it, and a huge box comes up...Yeah, that'd be awkward." He chuckled, but with nobody else around to laugh at his joke, he trailed off, sighing. "Okay, okay, I get it! Learn what this does...Right..." Browsing around, he soon found the list of skills he had, and groaned at what he saw. "Oh, three? Come on...You could at least be a bit less cheap! How'm I supposed to be some legendary hero with only three things? Well, I guess the point is you, uhh, do that 'level up' thing by killing stuff, and you get more skills..." Hissing in the manner of a cat, a tone of irritation entered his voice. "Who even plays this sort of game? It's like, 'Oh, you're at level one, get to level ninety! Just kill things constantly!' Seriously, what's the point? I mean, it looked sort of addictive when my friends were doing it, but..."
Sighing again, he looked back at the skills menu. "At least it should be a bit more exciting now that it's real. I mean, I guess it's real...I went to sleep in a tree, and I'm still here, so this must be real. Kind of weird, having hair all over my body, but it's no less weird than anything else that's happened." Shrugging his shoulders, his eyes glanced up and down, taking in the information he saw. "Okay, first one...'Elegant Act: Increases Dexterity for a duration with an elegant attack'. Wow, that's the most informative description I've ever seen. Thanks." Shrugging his shoulders, he idly touched the box with his paw, only to be taken by surprise as his arm seemed to move on its own, performing a stabbing combo at the air in front of him with the rapier. "W-wah! Stop, stop, stop! I didn't mean that!" After a few seconds, the motion stopped, and he sighed with relief. "Phew...That was kind of weird! Please don't tell me I have to do that every time I want to hit something..." Shaking his head, his eyes scrolled downwards. 'Sonic Cutter: Attack enemies in front of you with a wave of sound'. Sounds cool! Let's try it!" Tapping the box, it flashed red, with an 'error' sound effect playing. "What? What's the problem? I pressed it!" Peering forwards, he noticed a smaller text box within it, and he squinted to read it. "Uhh...'You do not have a musical instrument equipped'. What? I need a musical instrument for that? What am I going to do, play the violin so bad that their eardrums explode?" Once again, he chuckled, but he sighed after a second. "Tch...I guess it is a 'Bard' class, so it makes sense, but I don't know if I've got a musical instrument. I might, but it's probably in that 'inventory' thing, and that's a hassle. I'll do that later."
He then looked down to the final box, tilting his head at this. "What? 'Hearing Aptitude: Increase your range of hearing'? Was that even in the game? Maybe it's one of those 'dexterity' skills again...It probably won't make my body do something weird again, so I guess I'll try it..." Once again, he tapped at the box, his eyes widening as he felt a distinct change. Instead of only the wind around him, he could suddenly hear all sorts of things; the chirping of birds, the grunts of creatures in the trees, and even some of the noises of insects. At this, he burst into laughter, dropping his rapier and putting his hands on his knees. "Bwahaha! Wow, this is cool! I have superhuman hearing now! I guess it makes sense, since I'm not a human, but a cat!" Looking around, he smiled widely. "Ah...At one with nature. I could just listen to this for hours. But...That's not what I came here to do. Better stop mucking around." Pressing the box again, he toggled the skill off, and sighed with relief, picking his weapon off the ground. "Okay, so those are my skills; one that's really weird, one that I need another weapon for, and one that does nothing in a battle. What was I thinking when I made this character? There's no way I'll be able to do anything unless I get some help..." Looking around again, he saw nobody, but shrugged his shoulders. "Well, if I shout, there's a fifty-fifty chance of a monster or a person hearing it. Here goes nothing." Taking a deep breath, he called out at the top of his lungs. "Helloooo? Anybody want to help a low-level kill some stuff?" Pausing, he then added another shout. "We can split the profits, if you want! I'm not that stingy!" He then stopped, hoping that somebody-preferably another player, and not a monster-had heard his cries for help.
