"WAIT FOR ME TO COME HOME" Charuen hummed cheerfully to herself as she thumbed through her recipe book, an air of determination radiated from her as her fingers traced the scrawls on the thinned paper. She was a woman on a mission - to create the most delicious pork buns for her good friend Midori as a token of appreciation for letting the pinkette stay with her at her house in the mountains. Char had already cooked a few meals for the two of them, but she had been wanting to make something extra special for her good friend for a period of time now. While she could have straight up asked Midori what she wanted to eat, the cleric wanted it to be a (hopefully pleasant) surprise for the heretic when she came back from adventuring and saw a dish that she particularly enjoyed eating on the table waiting for her. And so, Charuen was quite happy to hear Midori comment one day when she was home that she wanted to eat pork buns. She could make that! Thus, once the raven haired adventurer left home to run some errands one day, the healer set to work in the kitchen. She had made bread before, but not buns, let alone buns that were stuffed with meat. Nonetheless, assumed the process would be quite similar to her past bread-making experiences. After going through the instructions in her notebook (she had read through a couple of existing recipes and then proceeded to write her own adapted version) Charuen began her mission. First she had to make the dough for the bun. Into the bowl went flour, water and yeast, which she mixed with a spoon until it was dry enough for her to start kneading. After dusting the counter with some flour, the cleric poured out her mixture and proceeded to press into the dough, working it so that it became increasingly more elastic. Once satisfied with the consistency she placed it back into the bowl for proofing. After all, fluffy bread and buns can only be made if one was patient enough for the yeast to do its work and the dough to expand. After placing a tea towel on top of the bowl to protect the dough while it proofed, Charuen set to work on the pork filling that would go inside. She had spent a lot of her time during her lower levels killing boars, and still had a lot of them left. While one might be worried about consuming meat from several weeks ago, there was nothing like fresh snow from the Snowdian mountains to keep your produce fresh. All the pinkette had to do was wrap up the meat and stick it in the snow in Midori's backyard. Taking the chunk of ground boar meat she had defrosted earlier in the morning, Charuen then proceeded to season it with diced ginger, garlic, and spring onion before adding a good amount of salt and pepper, as well a bit of soy sauce and ginger. The meat, spices, and seasoning were then stirred together until it became an aromatic mixture. By then, the dough had grown to twice its original size. Setting the meat aside, Charuen took the dough into her hands once more, kneading and pressing out the air that had formed in the dough due to the bacteria in the yeast. She then divided the dough into eight equal pieces, rolled them into balls, and flattened them into disks, before spooning in a generous amount of the meat mixture into the middle. The buns were sealed at the top with a pinch and twirl, and placed into a bamboo steaming box that she had purchased on a whim while she was still living in Londinium. ( It was so nice to finally put that spontaneous purchase to use). The steamer, in turn, was placed on a steaming rack in a pot filled one third with boiling water. Once she put the lid on the pot once more, Charuen gave a satisfied nod. Looking out the window, the pinkette smiled softly as she noticed the sun slowly making its way down and behind the mountains. The setting sun cast a golden light into Midori's house, giving the interior and its contents a rosy glow. At this Charuen hummed in content. The time before the sun rose and the time before the sun set was her favourite. However, due to the way Midori's house was designed, it was rare for Char to be able to catch the sunlight. Nonetheless, as she waited for the buns to cook (they had fifteen minutes left in the steamer) she put the kettle to the stove in order to boil some water for the oolong tea that she planned on them to have while having the pork buns. A few errands around the kitchen later, (she had made a small mess from all the cooking, plus she had to set up the table for dinner) the buns were ready. Turning off the stove and opening the lid, Charuen then proceeded to take the bamboo steamer out of the pot and place it in the middle of the table, where to seats were set. As she turned around to place the oolong tea leaves into the kettle of water that had now finished boiling, the cleric heard the door open. "Midori!" she exclaimed cheerfully as she walked back over to the table with the kettle and two empty cups. "Right on time, as always. I made you some pork buns, tell me what you think!" Charuen sat down in her seat and waved for the heretic to sit down next to her and try the dish she had made.
