A large sudden weight fell on top of Verin's back, jolting him awake. Opening his eyes Verin was immediately bombarded with a flood of light to which he reacted on instinct and closed his eye lids tightly. Resorting to the use of touch Verin placed his hand on the weight and was attacked by a nerve shattering cold, to which he also retreated from. With vision and touch not usable Verin stuck out his fox-like ears and swiveled them about, absorbing in any sound he could hear. The first thing Verin heard was the symphony of music produced from the birds in the area. Next Verin heard the sound of wind move about the ground and the sound of animals moving about. Lastly the trickle of a stream close by reached Verin's ears and instantly his throat felt parched.
Opening his eyes once more Verin, this time slowly, looked about and saw the wire frames of dead trees and the ground blanketed in thick white snow. In front of Verin was a running stream only a few yards away and it glistened like a gem. Stumbling some due to fatigue Verin got his hands up under him and then to his feet. Slugging forward feebly Verin made it a few feet until his legs slipped out from under him and he tumbled forward. Trying to stop himself Verin flung his hands about in a wild flurry of motions, but nothing worked and Verin flew into the icy cold crystal abyss.
All the breath in Verin's lungs leapt out of his throat and cold poison creep in, trying to kill him. Unexpectedly the stream was deep and while it looked clear from above it turned dark a few feet under the water. Lost in the dark Verin was to tired to try and move Verin let started to relax subconsciously while passing out once more. It was hours later when Verin woke up feeling his body being dragged through the snow. Trying to shake off whatever had a hold on him Verin couldn't move an inch and all in return Verin got was a small snort. Only able to turn his head Verin looked behind him and saw small figure that had large beard causing Verin to gasp loudly and tried to speak, but found that he had been gagged. Seeing that his only way to get out off this Verin tried once more to twist and turn about, but once again got nowhere.
It went like this for hours until for the umpteenth time Verin tried and whoever had a hold on him let go. Turning about Verin's captor looked at Verin and said, "Oh so you finally awake are you, no wonder you were constantly moving about then. I honestly thought that you were just in the middle of a really bad dream, I guess I should've checked earlier. Anyways I'm Talf a Dwarf mind telling me who you are?" All Verin did was get up into Talf's face and start yell ferociously.
It took a minute, but soon enough Talf realized what he had previously done and with his lips shaped like an O he went behind Verin and untied everything. Once done Talf proceeded to apologize and then finally once he was done Talf gestured to Verin to speak. Responding to the signal Verin took a deep breath and then said, "I'm Verin a Fox Tail Sorcerer who is a part of the expedition force from Londinium down south. We were gathered together by a Dwarf, much like yourself, named Tobin, who has from what rumors there are to be believed, that he has always wanted to explore the North which was lost long ago. Records have it that a war broke out over a hundred years ago and that since then no one from the Londinium area has never tried to go there again except for a few strong souls that went missing and never returned. Looking at the date it seems that it has been at least a few days since I left the group to scout ahead, but I don't quite remember what I was doing for those past few days either." After explaining who exactly he was and what he was doing here Verin looked at Talf's face to a bit of confusion and then Verin said, "You didn't understand any of what I just said did you," to which Talf nodded frantically and Verin continued, "fine I'll explain once more."
After explaining the situation once more, this time more slowly and more elaborately it finally reached the point where Talf had a general understanding. Also from conversing with Talf Verin learned more about the situation of Scotland and how everything worked here mostly. First off it seemed that connection between towns was little and the traders were the ones that held the most information. Second it was noted that most towns avoided the south due to superstition of ghost haunting the land. Lastly there was no major government and practically each town acted like their own country, though general humane rules did apply throughout all of Scotland. Including all of this there seemed to be a major war farther north going on, but as noted by Talf himself all of this was subjective though since Talf had only heard it from a trader who seemed very sketchy. Talking about all they could Verin and Talf proceeded on their way to the village which Talf was a part of.
