Earlier in the morning, Eadon had gone down to St. Pancras Station before the crowds could beat him there and acquired a good sized little notebook, and a pretty neat old style quill and some ink. The earlier he went, the less likely he was to be trodden on by a rampaging horde of people of the land, and crafting crazed adventurers, hence his early morning trip. Well, that and he wanted to look into something today, that happened to require the ability to write things down.
Right now, he was walking down a side street he had explored on the first day of being trapped in this world, towards a small park he distinctly remembered being there. It was still early, and there was a rather icy wind making things decidedly unpleasant outdoors, especially with the light cloud cover that seemed to dominate the heavens above. Today was not going to be a nice day, but for now it hopefully shouldn't rain or do anything too stupid.
Eadon grinned, at the thought. Here he had thought weather was not going to be a concern in a computer game. How wrong he was, especially when the fantasy world was a realistic as this one was quickly proving to be.
Before setting out to the shop this morning, Eadon had called up one of the friends he had made adventuring the other day, Reilin, to see if he wanted to meet up at the park for some... research. Eadon's new friend hadn't seemed to hugely pleased about being called at ungodly hours of the morning, but had agreed to come along anyways. It would be useful for his purposes in going out to the park today, to have a friend along.
Especially a friend who was another sigilmaker, as that particular sub class had a whole lot to do with why Eadon himself was up so early, and, shock horror, actually buying tools for studying.
"Wow, something must be wrong," he said out loud, a wry smirk making it onto his face, "I never used to actually study voluntarily before. This world must have something weird in the air to make me actually want to do it."
The cobblestone path seemed almost over run with weeds, and like with nearly everything the buildings lining this street were as abandoned as the next one. It was spooky, in a way, being surrounded by all of these abandoned buildings all of the time. Who had lived here, before? Probably best not to dwell on it for very long.
On another note, he really needed to find and befriend a tailor, and get them to make him some nice casual outfits.
Humming Eadon continued along the road. That was a nice idea. He missed all the crazy outfits he had been able to wear back on the real Earth. Here, cool and wacky coloured clothes were few and far between, most in various shades of drab.
Of course, there were so many other things they needed to look into here. Tailor skills only one of them. There were so many questions, about what all the various skills in this game actually did. How it was that they worked, and why. Back in real life Eadon had never really been the most studious or academic of people, but he really wanted to know. Especially with the rather bizarre skill that his sigilmaking sub-class appeared to have given him.
It seemed fairly innocuous, but what really bugged Eadon about that particular skill was its variety. The skill literally had a good half dozen or so different iterations, all with completely different effects and presumably different sigils drawn to achieve them. The worst part was, at the moment his use of the skill was all done on an instinctive, subconscious kind of level. He had no idea how to actually draw the symbols he used, let alone what they actually meant.
Why those symbols? The symbols that did something had to be a pretty unique set, or people could just draw random shapes all over things and get much the same effect.
"Ugh, why is this so frustrating," Eadon yelled out at the sky above, huffing petulantly, "I'm sure there's a reason for it, right?"
The most logical conclusion that he could come up with, was the the sigils themselves were like an ancient language, unique to this world. One that had certain symbols, representing certain words, and that by inscribing that word onto something it gained the effects of that word. Or something like that, at least. There was a reason he had brought writing materials with him.
Maybe the sigils had something to do with who used to live here, in this ancient seemingly abandoned city, full of crumbling buildings. It was definitely an avenue of thought worth pursuing. Eadon really needed to find a person with the scholar sub class, and ask them some tricky questions in the none too distant future, he was thinking.
Theoretically, symbols which only had basic effects - making things stronger, or faster or a little bit smarter for a short time, were the ones he could use now. But eventually, or so he hoped, he would be able to use more complex ones. Maybe even form sentences out of the sigils, for some truly unique and powerful sigil based magic. According to the sub class description after all, the sigilmaker was able to enchant weapons and equipment, even people, with the sigils they could draw.
Spotting the park up ahead, Eadon grinned. Once he got to the nice big open space, he could spend all day summoning up sigils and examining them. Hopefully he could come up with a nice list of what they were and maybe get a whole lot better at drawing them of his own free will, rather than through instinct.
Hopefully he would be able to decipher some of their meanings, too. Though figuring out which shapes worked, and which didn't would make for a good start.
Rocking up at the park, he glanced around for where Rei might be. Hopefully the other adventurer had gotten here already so they could get started. He hadn't really explained much, over the telepathic link. | WORDS: 1038 TAGS: EadonSONG: Just a Little FasterNOTES: Hey Rei. Post whatever you want here, I tried to leave you plenty of opportunity to run into Eadon before the meetup in my post. |

The crickets sung and the small animals moved around outside of the abandoned building that he had occupied during his beginning days in the game or better yet the world he now knew as the "Elder Tales", it was like one of those office buildings that you would see the occasional business man and woman would go in on their usual nine to five or their nine to whatever their hours were. Although the building itself was three stories high, Rei himself only slept on the second on a nice mattress that he had....procured from a market and brought it to the building and also grabbed some covers at the same time. Rei had been fast asleep on the mattress having a restful sleep and dreaming of the next course of events, although what you had called sleep here was as simple as you closing your eyes and then you waking up the next day. It was quiet inside of this building and further helped with the sleep cycle until that is a loud ringing came from nowhere and woke him up," agh what is that accursed sound and why is it waking me....oh its a call from Eadon...i see," sitting down on the mattress he would listen to the message, finding out that his new friend wanted to meet up with him for some "research" in the park.
Well now that Eadon had woken him up and offered him a chance to come out and research with him, Rei was about to get up and ready to go..BUT... his body had passed out on the couch for a little while longer, his body actually snoring as he got some well deserved sleep relaxation. After a while of sleeping, Rei soon woke up and looked around to see a little bit of light outside and his mind soon remembered," Oh crap i need to hurry up and meet up with Eadon...hopefully that guy isn't mad that i am going to be late," standing up he would stretch and get ready for his little adventure, grabbing his shirt and throwing it on he would hop out of the window...literally he had jumped out of the window and landed with a small thud as he walked out and around. According to his map he had a long way to go to find Eadon, the blip showing him at least a whole area that needed to be traversed before he managed to find Eadon.
This journey was going to need three things; Food, a little material for not being bored and of course a little fun. Rei had decided to stop by a local tavern for some food and drink and then he would set out on the adventure he needed to commence before Eadon got really upset with him or was he that kind of guy to get mad a little lateness. Walking into the tavern one waitress would come up to him and smile seeing that she was his regular customer and stood beside him," So what would you like to eat today Rei? The usual or would you like something different this time around," she smiled for a moment before putting her pen to the tablet. Of course he would smile and order his usual, a sandwich and a pot of stew," You already know what i would like -smiles- i am actually here a little earlier than i should be, but i have a meeting with a friend so i thought i would come in earlier," his smile would remain as he looked up to her and watched her walk away. A few moments would pass as he waited for his food silently, his hand moving over his black bandages in boredom...or was it him simply being impatient and hungry? The waitress would walk over to his table setting the sandwich and stew on it, handing him the usual class of orange juice," Here you go," the waitress soon walking off and be began to actually eat. The food here was not as bad as it could be and it actually had some taste in it unlike the food that some people made in this world, he never knew that food could taste so bad in this world until he had some of a chefs food and almost died.
Soon his food would be done and eating, sitting within the recesses of his stomach as he patted it and smiled," Another good meal down the drain, now i need to hurry up before something happens," standing up he would place the money onto the table and walk out of the tavern, hitting the necessary road to get to the park. His eye scanned the area slowly as he continued to walk through the small forest that gave a small shortcut. Rei did not know this way and yet it was going pretty smoothly considering that he had not found an enemy to fight. Checking map once a gain he would make sure no blips had appeared or anything like that while maintaining the set course of his map. After what seemed like minutes of walking through bushes and trees, Rei had finally made it to the park where he would pant heavily and grin," Okay i am here now i just have to find Eadon and soon we can actually get this research into high gear," stretching he would look around asking the occasional NPC and Real players, both either giving him that i don't know look or pointing off in some random direction that he did not think it was going to be in. None the less he continued to walk around before finally coming into a small clearing and finding Eadon here," Hey Eadon sorry i am so late...i kinda went back to sleep...then i got something to eat....then i kind of got lost in the woods so now that i am here want to go in depth on what we are doing here," looking at him with a confused expression he would wait for an answer before promptly replying and answering his own questions.

After searching the park thoroughly and finding no trace of his research buddy, Eadon had to admit to himself that Rei was not here yet. He didn't want to consider the possibility that Rei had simply bailed out on him, at least not just yet. Instead for the time being he would go with the assumption that Rei was being lazy, and had not wanted to get up so early, and would come along and join him later on. Or at least, he hoped so.
Doing all of the various research and experiments that he wanted to get done today would be much trickier without another sigil maker along to help out with certain areas of the study. Not that it would be entirely impossible, of course... Just a whole lot easier, and less hopelessly time consuming.
"Well, I guess i can make a start without him..." Eadon said to himself, resisting the urge to frown in frustration, "I can start out by getting a few sketches of what the Seal of Aquarius looks like, depending on what stat you try to buff."
Nodding to himself, glad that he had finally worked out what he was going to start out with, Eadon found a nice shady spot under a big tree, where he could watch the sun rising up over the city. It was a rather beautiful sight, all things considered. It might not be a sunrise or a sunset over the ocean, on the Isle of Skye where he had been born, but it was still a sunrise. The start of a day, and the start of new things. Just the feel of the warm rays on his skin made Eadon feel happy inside, as though nothing could go wrong.
The effect was somewhat ruined, by the ivy covered and slowly disintegrating buildings over which the sun rose. Frowning at them, Eadon couldn't help but feel a small shiver of unease. All of these buildings had been here before the adventurers, but no-one knew why. It was probably just a game design thing, but it still made him wonder, who had lived here before.
Raising a hand out in front of him, after making sure he had his notebook and drawing tools ready and open on the grass, Eadon whispered the spell that would summon up the Seal of Aquarius, aiming it at the tree next to which he sat. He decided he would gift the tree with strength, and record that iteration of the spell first.
The young sorcerer could feel the tug on his mana reserves, before the seal flashed into life before him. Quickly leaping on to his book, Eadon made some hasty and likely rather terrible sketches of the seal in question, trying not to get the lines and the curves wrong.
Grimacing, he realised he had probably been to slow. This was why he needed another sigil maker or two here to help him, after all. He couldn't cast the seals and sketch them at the same time. A proper artisan or an artist wouldn't hurt either, someone who was better at drawing things like this was going to be a much better addition to their little group than he necessarily was going to be.
"Well, this is going to be harder than I thought," Eadon said, tapping the feather of the quill against his lips in thought, "Getting down accurate sketches is going to prove kind of tricky, I think."
He was interrupted from his musings by the arrival of the person he had been waiting for all this time, Rei. Just as he thought, the other sigil maker had fallen back to sleep. And apparently gone on a weird quest for food, before getting horribly lost, before arriving here at the designated meeting place. Trust Rei to get so horribly confused and be so late, of course. Shaking his head in amusement, Eadon just smirked at him until he was done with his rambling.
"So, now that you're here, we can actually get started. I wanted to spend some time today researching and drawing some of the sigils we can make as sigil makers. Are you interested?" Eadon told him, voice slow and surprisingly calm for him.
Much calmer than the first time they had met, at any rate. That time, Eadon had been swinging a sword at his friends head, he thought bemusedly. It had been a fun afternoon, that one. "I sketch, you summon. Can you make a Seal of Aquarius on me, one for Intelligence?" | WORDS: 782 TAGS: EadonSONG: Just a Little FasterNOTES: Et voila.
