[attr="class","capsol"] A strike of some metal, a brush of dust off of a table, and just like that, Hiro had finished clearing off the work-space he had used time and time again. It had been quite some time since Hiro had stepped foot into the Handy Wrench, and even longer since the last time he had actually taken the time to clean the place up a bit. He decided that he would go ahead and use this old place as a means to work on his next project, which had been suggested to him by a few people, one of which being Sayha. The prospect of gliding through the air, or a person becoming airborne for a short period of time was definitely something that people have always wanted in this world, and was only mastered by the works of the Wright Brothers, back in the early 1900's in the real world. However, this seemed a good chance as any for Hiro to go ahead and see if he could get a little bit of help with this one, and possibly help someone else out in the meantime. While he was more than capable of making the base object itself on his own, as well as adding the modifications, he felt it might help someone if they did the modifications at the end, or at least helped in it.
The concept that he was going for today was the fact hat, as he had thought beforehand, nobody had gotten into aviation quite yet, and someone was going to need to at some point. While his ultimate goal was to make that airship he so desired later on in life, he knew that it would take some work to get to that point. The lesser step to that would be a hot-air balloon, but even that was a little ways off. He had pretty much everything he needed to get started on that, but there was something missing. Something he had yet to get into. That concept being: Making and mastering flight-safe cloth, which could withstand the constant pressure of air movements all around it. The first logical step would be to make something small, like a glider, to see how well he could make something to withstand air movement, and then from there, try and make a sail for a boat, where air movement was the main propulsion. Gliders were much easier in that regard, since they were lightweight, didn't rely on water, and were fairly easily controlled by just a person's body. That being the prospect for the day, there was probably another prevalent question that would come to mind: Why need help?
Well, to answer that, as he had also thought, it was to help another person out. To get them into the basic machinations of being a Mechanic, so they have a good start before getting into the nitty-gritty. As such, Hiro had put up a notice on one of the nearby quest boards for aspiring mechanics to come and lend a hand with a new project. Hopefully, only one would show up, as Hiro wasn't necessarily the best at explaining things, nor would he pretend to be. So, rather than tell, he'd show the person, or people, who show up just what he was trying to do. Along that same train of thought, he would try and give them a basic understanding of what kinds of things that they should probably be prepared for. Of course, that all depended on what the person who showed was willing to learn or find out, provided they care about it at all. Maybe this would be the thing to get them out of the profession in general, or it would help them figure out what kinds of things they would like to do on their own, or look for some other help for. But, just in case, Hiro had a few things out that would hopefully entice them to think a little bit. As such, he turned around, and looked at the vast majority of more-recent crafts he had perfected.
The first and most prominent one was the prototype Train that Hiro had made a long time ago now. It was large, bulky, and had no working engine inside of it. It made sense to not include something as powerful as a train's engine on the inside of a warehouse, since that would only lead to problems down the road. The next object of interest would probably be the hoverboard that Hiro had left leaning against the table. Fully customized, had the small thruster on the back and everything. Sure to stick out a bit. On top of the desk that he had just cleared off were a rifle and a pistol, both of which seemed to be a matching pair. Both level 50 weapons, their accuracy was decent, as well as their firepower. Around the rest of the room were old schematics and drawings of what could have worked, but the system, for some reason, didn't like them quite as much. However, they were still there, and provided a decent amount of scenery to the old wooden storehouse, as it might also provide a little notion of the fact that, when it comes to Machinery in this world, Hiro knew what he was talking about. Along with that, various planks of wood and a large amount of cloth and leather were in the building as well, for when he wanted or needed to work with either Tailoring or Woodcrafting. Without much else to do from there, Hiro went ahead, grabbed one of the stools from the side, and brought it over to the table. He sat down, and started to draw some more possible schematics for the glider.

| but somewhere here in between these city walls | A few days had passed since he had gotten out of Mr. Monty's shop and started his actual life as an Adventurer. Dagger laid in bed looking up at the ceiling of the tavern he spent his nights in, reaching for the glass of water that had remained there overnight. It had been an interesting sort of time since that day. He had met new people, had some small adventures and even completed a quest in his short time out and about. He couldn't find anything of fault in how he'd spent his time, even when alone these past few days. But now, he felt the need to go out and maybe, once again, see about a quest or two.
After getting ready he brought the glass down from his room, handing it and some money for another night to the Innkeeper, before turning his attention to one of the quest boards the man kept on the wall. Slime killing, collecting boar meat... scrubbing an old man's back? Dagger shuddered at the last one he read before his eyes fell on something rather interesting. Taking the paper down he gave it a bit more of an examination before heading out the door with it in his hand.
It seemed someone, who would be located at the Handy Wrench, was looking for aspiring Mechanics to lend a hand with some project. There were no real details, but that was to be expected if the person truly cared for their craft. Heading out from the tavern, he asked a few passerby for directions, heading as quickly as he could to the building in question. A few minutes of walking put the building in sight, and Dagger was relieved to find that no one else seemed to be outside the door. Making his way over, he knocked on the door before trying the handle to find it unlocked.
He'd wait for a split second before his curiosity got the better of him and he would simply walk in. His eyes would be assaulted with the sight of wondrous creations, things he had no idea could have been created, or in some case recreated, in this world. what caught his attention most, and above all else sent his mind spiraling with ideas, was the locomotive that was on display. He let out a soft whistle, stunned for a moment at the sheer fact that locomotion was one of the possibilities through his chosen crafting profession.
"Boy howdy... I knew guns, rifles and clockwork toys could be made here, but a real ole' Train? Hot dang musta taken a heck load a time and change ta' make that beauty."
He walked towards the Train, looking it over as carefully as one might scrutinize a final exam in school. Even with a short glance he could see the amount of work that went into the behemoth creation, and quickly found himself absorbed in looking it over, that is, unless he found someone calling out to him. | of dying dreams |

[attr="class","capsol"] It didn't take too long after Hiro had finished up the shop that a knock was heard at the door. He was more than sure that the door itself was unlocked, but perhaps the person was just being polite and wanted to knock before coming in. He could understand that, and it was actually a bit nice to see. Before he could say to come in, though, the person at the door made their way inside, and immediately took note of the monstrous train carcass that was behind him a little ways. Making a couple of comments about it, the newcomer seemed mesmerized by it entirely, which Hiro couldn't help but fluff his own feathers over. However, he didn't do that outwardly, since it would only make him a bit pretentious and arrogant. The point was to be open-minded when it came to mechanics and how things work, since the best answer may be the most ludicrous at times, or the answer is right in front of you. Take the chance to go ahead and stand up, Hiro's eyes followed the newcomer's to the train, and the various other inventions that the Monk had made in the past. He, at this time, remembered that he hadn't put out his shape-shifting weapons on display.
But that wasn't the point, to show of his inventions. This wasn't any kind of invention convention, this would be a collaboration with someone else to attempt to invent a glider, to help people move around a little bit easier. With that in mind, Hiro decided that he would walk over near the newcomer, and say something. "Took a little while, but eventually, it just kinda worked out." Hiro started. He turned to the guy, and smirked. "One of the handy things about Mechanics is Quality Control, a skill that lets you see how some things are constructed. It's how I made those two guns on the desk, the train, and a few other things in here." Hiro began to move over to the desk again, and started to rummage through the contents of one of the drawers. "Innovation stems from previous ideas, and improving upon them!" He found one of the old models of pistols, something much more akin to a flintlock type of weapon, and placed it where the other pistol was. Pointing to them, Hiro looked back over to the newcomer. "Practically the same thing, these two. Just needed some touching up, and after learning how the old one was made, the new one came along, just like that."
He approached the guy once more, this time more slowly. "It's one of the things we Mechanics can do, that no other crafting subclass can: We can make. We can examine. And we can improve." It was at this point that Hiro had outstretched his hand to the man, offering a handshake. "Name's Hiro. Leader of Apocrypha, and inventor of most things you see here before you." Whether the man accepted the handshake or not was up to him, and of no consequence to the Monk. After the exchange had happened, Hiro started to move back to the desk, in order to ask the man a question as a result. "Am I to assume that you're here because of the flier I had put up? If not, then you chose a hell of a warehouse to walk into, my friend." Hiro sat back down at the desk, making sure to keep looking at the man. Whatever his intention was, it didn't really matter. He seemed to have a general idea as to how a train was built, or at least the amount of effort that needed to go into making such a thing, so he only assumed that this guy was here for that reason in particular. Given that as the most likely possibility, Hiro kept in mind that he would need to be instructive, if this guy didn't know everything Hiro thought he should know. However, that didn't seem like it would be a problem, and he would only find out once this man responded to his question.

| but somewhere here in between these city walls | Dagger snapped back to reality as he heard a voice from his side. He turned on his heels to find another Adventurer as the source of the voice. He was actually kind of relieved, to have someone other than a Lander to talk to right now. The man spoke about the train briefly, before mentioning one of the obviously higher leveled Mechanic skills and moving on to various other topics of chat. Dagger followed the guy, obviously the one who had put up the request, looking over everything he mentioned. He noticed that the two pistols were quite different, he wouldn't have enough time right then to examine the full range of changes made to the newer model, as he kept his attention turned to the man as he gave the 'tour' of sorts.
When Hiro, as he introduced himself, offered his hand for a polite handshake, Dagger met it with his own hand, giving a firm handshake in return, alongside his own name.
"Name's Daggerfel, Dagger f'er short. Pleasure ta make y'er acquaintance."
He'd follow Hiro over to the desk, looking at the sketches that had started to form on the blueprints. He looked back at the man as he asked how he had come to find the place, giving a nod when Hiro mentioned the flier.
"Aye, came here from the other side a town, figgered I'd see what was up and get some more practice in with the craft. An ole Lander who taught me took two years just teachin' me about the parts. I could probably build a darn spring-box blindfolded in my sleep. I'd like ta build somethin' better than a few ole' toys, honest I'd be happy ta make anything really. So, what's the project ya lookin' ta do Hiro?"
He gave a friendly smile as he stood next to Hiro, his attention turned once more at the blueprints laying before him. | of dying dreams |

[attr="class","capsol"] At this point, Hiro was given a name to the face. Dagger seemed like a nice enough guy, which was more than beneficial to him, he thought. It was never nice to deal with someone who was arrogant and selfish, as it always made him wonder why he dealt with people at some points. Either way, Dagger had begun to explain that he had been trapped somewhere for the past 2 years, making Hiro wonder just what level this guy would be if he wasn't. Of course, that thought very quickly left, as it became more apparent that Dagger had had previous experience with how machinations worked. That would serve to make some things easier, since he wouldn't have to explain things as blatantly for the other man to know what Hiro was talking about. That being said, though, having been locked up or something to that effect would mean that this man wasn't exactly up-to-date on all of the inventions that had been made over the course of time since they all became stuck in this world, so there may be some need to explain things after all. But, Hiro would cross that bridge when he came to it, if he needed to at all.
As expected, the question of the purpose for being there that day had come about, to which Hiro smiled. He was excited to work on this project. "Well, Dagger," Hiro started, pointing to the blueprint on the desk. "As you can see here, it's a glider of sorts." Taking his attention away from the blueprint, he spoke directly to the Samurai. "I'll start by explaining why I need your help today. See, the idea is to make it so that this glider can be folded into a smaller carrying fashion, so one wouldn't just have a fully-built glider in their inventory somewhere. That'd be difficult to carry around and hard to use when someone needs it or just wants it. So, making different joints on the contraption itself would allow for it to fold into a smaller frame, right? That's basically the idea I have for it." Concluding that, Hiro went ahead and started to walk over towards some bits of wood and cloth. "I haven't assembled the entire thing quite yet, but I do have a general idea of how it'll all go down." Bringing the pieces that he had already pre-cut them to the determined lengths over to the desk, he placed them on the large counter a little ways from the desk. He returned to the desk, to continue.
"See, I have a few ideas about ways that we can move around in this world, and in order to get a good basis in that, we'll need to start small. A Glider would be the best way to get started on a method of aerial transportation, which I have other projects in the works for. But half of the point is to try and get some kind of cloth made, that can withstand rapid air movements, as well as changes in direction more easily. Aside from that, and the joints to make it smaller in frame, this should be a fairly simple craft." His eyes moved to the cloth on the table, which was all stitched up already. "I've started with some simple cloth, which I've stitched together in order to try and make it more solid. Hopefully, it should be enough. The wood is sturdy enough that it should withstand all the weight and such well enough, while not weighing all that much itself." Hiro turned around, and leaned against the desk, his eyes examining Dagger over once more. "So, I guess the last question is, do you feel like lending a hand with this? Feel free to say no if you're not interested, of course." With that, there wasn't much else for him to say, as he would just have to wait for whatever response the man would give him. From the bit of an introduction he had gotten already, Dagger seemed like a solid fellow. Would be a shame if he walked out those doors right then and there.

| but somewhere here in between these city walls | Dagger looked over the sketches, noting that it indeed seem to depict what could easily pass as a type of glider. Shouldn't require much, though the way it seemed that Hiro wanted to create this was to have it fold in on itself for easier storage more than likely. This fact was quickly confirmed by Hiro himself, to whom Dagger gave his attention as he explained things. In the back of his mind he began to think of some of the tools he had used both at school and on the farm that operated in a similar way as to what he was being asked to assist with. He watched at Hiro retrieved some pieces that he had previously prepared, setting them aside on a nearby counter before returning to the blueprints and continuing. As Hiro explained his reasons for wanting to create such a device Dagger was already contemplating ideas to help the device work just as Hiro wanted. He snapped back from his mind as Hiro asked if he would like to assist, to which Dagger simply gave a wide smile.
"It'd be a lie if I said I didn't want a hand in this here piece a pie. Sorry if I seemed a bit out if it, was jus' figgerin' out a few ideas on the joints."
He pointed to several points on the sketch, namely where Hiro had detailed the wings.
"A simple spring joint would be right up our alley, if'n we're lookin' f'er stability, also makes sure the wings wouldn't jus' snap outta place from a strong breeze. Might make foldin' it up a bit of a pain, but f'er safety I'd figger it's better that way. As f'er the wings 'emselves we should make sure they're plenty foldable, thinkin' like ole' bat wings, usin' some thin wood f'er 'finger bones' in a sense. Means them wings'll be our weakest point a structure, but then again with a light frame we gotta sacrifice a little to gain that aspect a flight. Now, the big question is y'er kind a wood. It's gotta be somethin' dense enough f'er the durability we're after, but light enough ta stay airborne from wind currents. Now, it's jus' an idea but if'n ya get somethin' that can create a stable cushion of air to keep the device airborn, we can design another model which moves from simple ole' body movement."
His brain was working overtime, in a sense, as his mind rummaged through several devices he had seen before in the real world.
"Whatcha think?"
Dagger looked over at Hiro, his eyes shining as he smiled. This was why he had chosen this profession, the idea of creating things similar to those from the real world, or even things far removed from the realm of possibility back there. I mean, they had access to magic! Dagger could only imagine the possibilities of what creations could exist in this wonderful world. He couldn't wait to start having his hand in advancing his dreams further, and with Hiro's help, that day would probably come pretty soon. | of dying dreams |

[attr="class","capsol"] A smile found its way onto Hiro's face, as the Samurai had agreed to come along for the journey. "Alrighty then!" Hiro exclaimed, ecstatic to have a partner in this endeavor. Not too much longer, the young man had turned his attention to the diagrams on the desk, and started to examine it verbally, with what he thought would be the best course of action for certain parts of the glider itself. One of the main questions would be the wood that goes into making it, which meant that Hiro needed to be careful. However, after having considered this beforehand, he had three different types of wood that might be the best choices for the project, though he would run the by Dagger before much else happens. Before he went into that, though, it seemed that Dagger had caught onto what Hiro intended for the joints and such to be made of, and how they should work. Looking at the diagram to figure out what exactly Dagger was referring to, Hiro tried to envision what it was that the young mechanic was trying to suggest. His idea would work, sure, but he was thinking something even more basic before then. Something that could just be done in one go and not have to worry too much about.
"I can see what you're trying to say, Dagger." Hiro started, taking the pencil in hand and drawing a bit more to what he was saying. "That would work, but I think we should do stuff that more compliments the wood that we choose. Something to kinda offset the different strengths and weaknesses of the woods." After doodling a bit of what Hiro had in mind, he started to walk away towards a large pile of wood. "I like what you're saying with the collapsible wings, and have just he right materials for that alone." He called out, rummaging through some of the wood. "I've got three types of wood, so we can at least construct three different prototypes. Hope that sounds good to you!" Finding the scraps that he wanted, he returned back to the desk, placing two different colored planks of wood on the table, next to the wood that was already there. "Spruce, Oak, and Pine wood." There was more of the oak there that Hiro could use from, so he decided that he bat-like formation would be best for the oak wood. Assembling it in the fashion of how the wings would look, Hiro placed the cloth in between the 'fingers' and tried to make it look as close to the final object as possible. Of course, this was only a small-scale model.
"So, the Oak wood is perhaps the strongest of the three, which means the bat-like structure would be okay, since the strength of the wood would play to the benefit. The moving parts wouldn't break quite as easily as the other two, so it would be the safest one to go off of. However, in this world, Oak is one of the heavier woods, too. Which means, as you can imagine, it wouldn't be able to fly quite as well. To make that work, though, we'd have to use more cloth on more parts of it, and use less joints to keep the weight-to-buoyancy ratio beneficial." Pausing for a minute, Hiro cleared away the oak, and pulled over the spruce. "Spruce wood is perhaps one of the better flight-ready woods, as some very old War planes were made of it. Doesn't weigh too much, it's definitely sturdy, and has a lot of tenacity. Doesn't break quite as easily. This would be best with a glider that has a few more moving parts, which would make it easier to carry. Flight-wise, it should also be fine with not as much cloth." Moving the spruce out of the way, Hiro picked up the Pine. "Now, this one is notorious, back in the other world, for not being the best wood to do much of anything with. However, in this world, it has a bit of a... Special factor to it, if you will." He paused for a moment, before holding the plank in both hands.
Pushing down on it with a good deal of strength revealed that it bent to about a 20-degree angle, before stopping. Showing off this little fact about the wood, Hiro let go of it slowly. "Now, this is a special Pine, found only in some of the deeper parts of Moon Dance Forest. It is known as Spirit Pine, and it can withstand an incredible amount of force. It takes a higher leveled crafting class to assemble this, or even gather it, but it's a very good type of wood for making all different kinds of things. I'm not sure if it would be flight-ready, but it's worth trying out. That being said, we'll still need some joints to be able to carry it, but it is so lightweight, it isn't even funny." Placing it on the desk, Hiro stepped back. "Go ahead and lift it. It's like lifting a toothpick." Whether or not Dagger had gone about the wood's weight, Hiro started to move towards the pile once again. "Now, since it's a special kind of wood, it's fairly hard to come by. Only a few of them spawn every day, and can't be collected from monsters of quests, as far as I know. Which means, it'll probably be costly. So, for now, why don't you go ahead and take a look at the blueprints, and tell me what you think you can do with the joints, and making them move better." He rummaged through the wood stacks, looking for bigger pieces of wood that he could use. "I'll be right over here, trying to figure out what pieces we can use for now. I'll be back there in a sec." Hiro would continue looking for another minute or so.

| but somewhere here in between these city walls | As Dagger finished his spiel, he looked to Hiro to hear what he had to say. That fact that his own ideas weren't tossed aside immediately was a good sign, it was a thousand times easier to work with someone who you could cooperate with rather than someone who dictated what would be done. Hiro started drawing a bit more, giving Dagger some visuals to help envision the project as he learned about the three types of wood that had already been set aside for this project. Dagger took the piece of Spirit Pine and tested it in a few ways as he spoke.
"Sounds purdy decent, right honestly. Oak's a good wood, can't agree more that it'll make a right good frame and need fewer reinforcements. An oak frame I'd suggest none more than a single joint f'er each wing. Thin, probably flat 'fingers' f'er the wings, maybe three to six per side to give the right consistency a flight to weight. Worst part's gonna be gettin' that body to the right ratio f'er it to fly and support the rider's weight. The spruce can probably do f'er a triple jointed wing, possibly even a version of it can be strapped to the back considerin' that factor. A triple joint in a wing would give a bit more f'er steerin' capacity if'n I'm thinkin' right. Could probably use a looser join f'er that or a lock joint operated with some thin cable tied to a glove or somethin'."
He, like Hiro, saved his thoughts for the Spirit Wood for last though, as he marveled over the material.
"However, this here stuff. If'n all that's true then a glider made a this should fly better than a bird. I'd suggest savin' this here stuff for a different idea, more along a flyin' machine than a simple ole' glider. Bird's got themselves a certain pattern to the way they work their wings, ain't no simple flappin' amazin'ly. Purdy sure ya know this y'erself. If'n we can make a pair a wings with this, connect 'em to a machine designed ta imitate that wing pattern, we might just be able to create actual wings capable of grantin' folks true blue flight. Now, not sayin' a machine alone's gonna cut it, might, might not. Probably gonna need some fancier tech than simple gears, bars and pulleys, but heck, if'n trains are a thing, purdy sure that'll be a decently challenging build, ya know? Anyways, if'n ya want to make a glider out a it, I'd suggest somethin' similar to what I said f'er spruce. Triple joint the wings, and with that light a weight, we can probably add a foot control f'er the tail to help with turnin'."
As Hiro stepped away, asking Dagger to contemplate the joints they could use, he quickly sat down, borrowing the utensils t draw up what he had been thinking of. The first one, which he had intended for the Oak setup was a simple type of locked spring joint. It was an easy construct made of two pieces of square metal with a single side cut out, a single spring connecting the two with a catch that could be disabled in order to fold the joint. It was something similar to how pocket knives were constructed, which now that he thought about it, made Dagger miss his old knife. Shaking the thought from his head he moved on to draw up the idea for the triple joints. These would be similar in idea to the spring joint, but would use bars instead of a spring. His idea came from the canes you could buy at the store, the adjustable kind that were the most common back in the real world. Well, taking that along with a sliding base on one side you could create a fully fold-able joint that could be set at the required angle. The join would simply require a pair of hollow tubes, a pair of small metal caps and a tiny spring. And if they just really wanted to be fancy with the sliding lock two tiny wheels to be set into the track instead of a smooth bolt. For now, he thought that would be good enough for a little conversation regarding the possibilities of what he'd come up with so far. To be honest, he'd thought it over a little more and either joint could be useful for any of their build plans, or at least, he thought that way. | of dying dreams |
