[attr="class","tempo"] [attr="class","appbox1"] Maximillion is a Monk who uses knuckled gauntlets as his weapons of choice. He has a tall, muscular build with an ebony complexion, long dark brown hair, and varies the armor and other gear he wears, often having it reforged to be purple, with flavor text depicting him as “The King of Midnight”, even – a little while into playing Elder Tale – his New Player starter gear. [In-Game Appearance] In real life, Max stands at 6'2", and is an interesting combination of having a dense musculature, but having just enough fat over it that it hides all but the outermost contours of said muscles. He varies between having facial hair, and trying to go clean-shaven (although shaving completely makes him look at least a decade younger). He wears thick "hipster" glasses, and has a carefully trimmed hairline with etched notches in it, with the top of his hair about medium-length and either braided, or just allowed to 'be free', as he sometimes calls it. He has a tan complexion, which is either very fair (naturally), or can be made really dark, with prolonged sun exposure (which isn't the norm, him being out in the sun, as it makes him extremely uncomfortable). His facial expression is often flat and non-expressive, even when he feels like he is smiling (but the change is so minimal, only those who've come to know him might notice). He cannot smile on-command, although once in a blue moon, a warm, genuine smile will be seen on his face, such as when something he loves or has fond feelings for comes into view (person, place, thing, etc). When he tries, it just comes off looking damn wrong. [Out-Of-Game (IRL) Appearance] | [attr="class","tempo"] [attr="class","appbox1"] Max, in real life, suffers from clinical depression, which has (in the past) gotten bad enough that he was often treated intensively for it. He is plagued with feelings of inadequacy, and certainty that he will never find anyone to understand him. He has low self-esteem, which he will occasionally try and cover by going into “Cerebral Mode”, a self-dubbed state where he processes everything (environment, social interactions, etc) with pure, unemotional logic, which allows him to retreat from his intense emotions and deal with things, quote: “In Raw Data Form”. He also has higher-functioning Autism, which is largely the cause of his difficulties in social situations, as his intensely loving and accepting nature often comes off as overwhelming and difficult to handle by those around him, not to mention the astounding difficulty he has with smalltalk. After joining Elder Tale (back when it was just an MMO Game), Max came to understand people a little better, as a result of, as he’s said, “The filter that turns pure, beautiful, wonderous expression into something small, diminished, and cheapened that is suitable for Social Norms, is usually in the OFF position when people go Online, making it easier to understand where people are coming from”. In-Game, Maximillion’s Courtesan Class allows him to (barely, at best) ‘break even’ in social interactions with People Of The Land, although he still has immense trouble with interacting with most other Adventurers, who are not largely affected by the charms of the Courtesan Class' skills. |

Max Vaughn Midnight, in the ‘real world’, was the son of an Army soldier and his manic-depressive wife. Between the chaotic and unreliable tendencies of his mother, and the strict and military-hardened nature of his father, Max was pulled in two directions as a child: one, towards the desire to be free to do what one wanted to do in life, to take pleasures that did not cost money to pursue, even if it meant living in squalor…and the second direction, which was to make whatever sacrifices were necessary, at any cost, in order to establish a legacy for himself, to become influential, and to be someone nobody ever thought it might be a good idea to try and screw over. Since early childhood, his father taught him self-defense and martial arts, and pushed his son to be attentive and prosperous in his academics. Punishment for scoring low in a test, or getting reports that he wasn’t being attentive in class, was very severe, and corporal punishment wasn’t uncommon.
Unfortunately – in terms of his parentage – Max had undiagnosed, high-functioning Autism, which inhibited his ability to associate-with, and build friendships with, other children (save the most open-minded and accepting of his peers). He was misdiagnosed as having Attentive Deficit Hyperactive Disorder and Bipolar, which was only later cleared up in his adult years, when he took matters into his own hands to find out once and for all if he was on the Autism Spectrum, after having ‘connected the dots’ and found that the symptoms of Autism resonated with the difficulties he had faced growing up.
Max was an only child, and when combined with his difficulties associating with other children growing up, he came into his own as a very lonely, yet earnest spirit. He had a deep an innate love for other human beings, but also harbors a dark, cold cynicism inspired by his experiences with peers and other individuals who scorned him due to his being ‘weird’, his great height and overall stature having probably saved him from worse bullying when he was in school.
As an adult, Max did some studies and dabbling with some Occult Groups he met Online, but although he retained his esoteric belief systems, he came to dismiss those practices, spells and rituals (not ALL, simply all he’d encountered so far) as “fake” and focused his life more on pursuits of a worldly nature.
Just before the ‘Apocalypse’ Event, Max had finally made arrangements to move out of the squalor of his life in his efficiency-apartment in his old hometown, having made the decision to move to a more Metropolitan area, as “My worst there, will be far better than my best here”. After moving, and being a fan of MMOs and Online Socialization in general, he had started to get interested in Elder Tale, before one day waking up in the world of Elder Tale itself.
Max is a spiritual and philosophical man, and believes in anything and everything being possible, and strongly hates stark generalizations ("Everyone" thinks this, "everything" works like that, This is how it's done "Everywhere", etc), as he realizes that there is no 'universal rule' that applies literally *everywhere*.

[attr="class","skillbox1"]
Bullet Punch - Tier 1 - The user enters a frenzy by launching multiple punches after another, each punch launched at a faster than usual rate without losing very much momentum from a regular punch. The only disadvantage is that the user's arms are locked into performing this punching animation for four seconds straight, preventing them from doing anything else until the animation has completed. This skill has an animation time of 4 seconds (each individual punch has an animation time of 0.5 seconds) and triggers a global cooldown during its animation, where no other skills may be used until the animation is resolved. When performed while Ironrhino Stance is active, the Monk takes 25% less damage from attacks during this skill's animation.
Beat Down - Tier 1 - A toggle-activated monk ability that grants the monk a gradual increase in damage and attack speed for every opponent they defeat. This skill utilizes a combo system, where after about a minute if the user had not gotten another kill, the effect is canceled.
Rafting Taunt - Tier 1 - The user poses aggressively and baits enemies' attention. This skill places the Monk at the top of the target's aggro list during the moment it is used, so the Monk will have to follow up with other aggro-generating actions to reliably hold the target's aggro. This is often used as a means of managing consistent aggro control. This skill has an animation time of 2 seconds and a cooldown of 5 seconds.

Allure - Level 1 - A toggle skill that can be used anytime in a conversation with People of the Land. It allows the Courtesan to smooth over any mistakes and retain the target's attention. Often, this skill can also be used to obtain information that would otherwise require long interrogation. Allure's effect scales with the Courtesan's subclass level, becoming more effective at higher levels.

Transmutation - Level 1 - Alchemists are naturally aligned with the power of magical equipment, able to use the Adventurer skill [Equipment Mastery: Magical] as a Beginner-level skill without having it take up a skill slot. Their research also gives them an advantage in fighting Artificial Life to deal an additional 10% damage. If [Equipment Mastery: Magical] is already learned through racial or class bonuses, Magitech damage increases by 10%.
