Welcome to one of the three branches of a recipe hunt. As the group of Ephemeral Solace split off into three parties, it was decided that due to the distance required to reach the Dimensional Theater in Avon, that the main party obtaining that ingredient should have gone together in a larger group compared to the other ingredients. Pairing off was a better idea due to the proximity of those areas from each other. Meanwhile, the Dimensional Theater was a journey that required a trip directly into Stratford upon Avon. It was a little ways north of the Adventurers' capital city, so that after they were to leave from Windsor Forest in the morning, it was now currently near the evening hours by the time they should reach the city. Perhaps along the way, there would have been a good deal of interaction between the adventuring four members of the guild. However, there was neither time in character nor out of character for us to describe such events. It would take a few months to cover such a thread in that much detail, and if the point was to obtain ingredients for a sick grandfather, it was best to resolve the sidequest as soon as possible. Interested in starting a thread about such misadventures? Feel free to start another thread. I only signed up for putting us at the Dimensional Theater from the start.
Now, as the party reached Stratford upon Avon, they would realize how different of a city atmosphere there was from Londinium. Whereas Londinium was essentially taken over by Adventurer culture to the point where it was starting to resemble a contemporary city, this city up in the north was still primarily filled with People of the Land. There was a light snowfall that had just started as they neared the walled city; presumably it was getting close to the winter season here in the Unfounded Kingdom as well. Laelia, being originally a Person of the Land hailing from the Lune Seaport, had not really disclosed the major details of her existence in this world. Midori had told her to refrain from telling too many people about her circumstances. It made sense that an individual who essentially traveled several hundred years forward in time was not something that would have been received very well among the general public. Nevertheless, the Unfounded Kingdom did look very beautiful. The Harvest Festival wasn't quite as big in this world, but the appearance of snow made it apparent that the aptly newly Snowfall season would be arriving soon enough. After spending much of her life in a city herself, it was slightly refreshing to be able to venture to new places and explore an entirely new culture.
They passed by the statue of the Arcane Bard, supposedly the historic founder of the city. The monument was right up in front of the city's own cathedral. If an Adventurer were to open the interface at this point and set their home point to Stratford, they would end up here if something were to happen at the Dimensional Theater, be it teleportation via Call of Home or respawn after death. Hopefully they would not have to do that; teleporting back to Londinium was the optimal plan if they wanted to deliver the ingredient as soon as possible. Not to mention, the Bard was not an Adventurer. Enclosed in Midori's letter that Laelia had brought on her person, the black magician had written about Laelia's origins to the pink-haired guild leader. It would have been up to the two of them whether they wanted to tell the guild about Laelia's background. Regardless, it was quite apparent that Laelia herself was a Lander. They all needed to be careful and refrain from underestimating the foe they were to fight.
It was a short travel from the city entrance to the Dimensional Theater. The building itself was the largest part of the city, serving multiple functions as the centralmost heart of Stratford. It was, by its name, a theater where people would attend the live performances held all day. It was a place of research as scholars attempted to attain the esoteric magic that the Arcane Bard himself had wielded. It was the seat of the local government, housing most of the city's administration. However, to the guild, one thing mattered. It was the site that held the Miasma Realms, a trapped corrupted dimension where the Black Essence is said to hail from. Midori had given the girl a warning when she had taken her on a tour to the snow mountain city. She was told not to directly enter the Miasma Realms. It was a vastly uncharted territory that held a deep level of malevolence within. Not even the founder of the city himself was able to purge the corruption, which was why he exiled its presence to a heavily-guarded portal deep within the theater. It was natural that some of that darkness would occasionally seep out, but to venture into the Miasma Realms was to risk one's life. Entering it as an Adventurer was a dire sign as many come out with their minds temporarily warped; entering as a Lander invited only disaster. The party would need to stay away from the deepest region and try to find one of these escaped essences instead.
"It should be around here..." Laelia led the group to an empty theater room. There were no performances held in this area due to rumors that one of the Black Essences had escaped into this room. The area was then subsequently locked off to only people who were able to combat the malicious force. Even the guards patrolling the area had expressed some discomfort in letting the Adventurers in, but their levels should have made it possible for them to take on. A Black Essence that had escaped from the Miasma Realms was weaker outside of its domain. In any case, the group would find this large room as their best leads in order to find the monster. Where they were currently standing, the corridor split off into the room and revealed the stage right in front. There were circular bleachers on each side, overlooking the area. Behind the stage was obviously the backstage area where they could not clearly see from this point. Finally, a system of ladders would bring them to the lighting and mechanical setup above the theater.
The guild members would have to decide whether they would want to split up or search the room together.

"WAIT FOR ME TO COME HOME" The journey to Avon was a familiar one. In addition to having made the trip on numerous occasions, Charuen had lived in its snowy mountains for more than half a year with Midori. In fact, the first time she had set food in Stratford Upon Avon, was when she officially befriended raven haired adventurer. Although the pinkette had just returned to adventuring, she already missed her dear friend. There was something calming about Midori's quiet yet eager nature that Char always appreciated. The separation from her made Charuen realize this even more. A part of her wanted to go and visit the cottage she had been lucky enough to live in with Midori and see if the heretic was there. However, the cleric was short on time and she had a very important mission at hand. It was after all, the guild's first official request. Since the trip was not a difficult one, Charuen took the opportunity to chat with her guild members some more. Everyone was very lovely, and the pink haired adventurer had a genuinely good time. During this time, the guild leader of Ephemeral Solace was also handed a letter penned by Midori with details of Laelia's origins. She had heard a little bit about it during her short call with the heretic, but to finally read the elaborated story of Laelia's past was nothing short of extraordinary. She made a mental note to speak to the bard separately in the near future and see if she could provide the young woman with support. Time flew by quickly and soon they arrived at Stratford Upon Avon. Despite knowing the area well, it always unsettled her slightly to experience the stark contrast between the adventurer-filled Londinium and the lander-run Avon Valley. The journey from the city entrance to the Dimensional Theatre was a short one, and she followed Laelia as they made their way through the building and into one of the empty theatres. The place made Charuen both uncomfortable yet thrilled-- due to her role as a healer, her abilities were sensitive to the darkness that lurked in every corner. However, there was something exciting about exploring such a dangerous building and being kept on her toes. "Let's pair off and explore the area. We'll split up so that each healer is paired off with a support. @serenityspace and Laelia, please explore the backstage. Lavinia and I will explore the bleachers and then join you two shortly." Motioning for the enchantress to follow her, the cleric then proceeded to move to the bleachers on the right side. Bending down, she began to check for stray Black Essence under the benches. Her sword-wand was gripped tightly in her right hand in case one decided to pop out and surprise her. This should be an eventful tale... The journey to Stratford Upon Avon was a talkative one, with the four guild members striking up conversations with each other to pass the time as they ventured off into the new territory. Dorian did his best to speak up whenever referred to, but mostly he was nervous; though it may look like he had been to Avon, considering his gear was crafted by the expert workmanship of the Landers here, he had never actually set foot in the city himself. This was his first journey to a city outside of Londinium altogether, and he would be lying if he said he wasn't a tad bit frightened. But, he kept his calm, offering a smile and a gentle word whenever conversation turned to him along the journey. When all was said and done, the Shaman was enjoying the first chance to spend time with his new guild mates, though he was disappointed that not all of them were here; he'd have to make proper introductions with the others when they returned from their ingredient quest. Eventually, and rather quickly - how time flies - the group arrived in Stratford Upon Avon, a very different city compared to Londinium, as the others no doubt observed; Dorian stared up at the various architecture and layouts of the buildings that dotted the landscape, until his eyes fell upon the grand statue of the city's founder, the Arcane Bard; a regal carving of the man that gave off a sense of hope and discovery, a feeling that Dorian had always enjoyed experiencing. There was a man who enjoyed exploration just as much as he did, though as of late Dorian had yet to fully realise his love of the open road. This was, however, a good step in the right direction, seeking out a new city. Perhaps he would come here more often in the future, no doubt there was much to uncover. But alas, they had come for a specific reason, and it was an important one; their quest took the utmost priority for the time being. With quick feet, the group arrived at the Dimensional Theatre, weaving their way inside towards one of the theatres that had been left empty; supposedly a Black Essence had broken free of the Miasma Realms and was lurking within the theatre proper. "A good thing we're here to deal with it, I suppose," the Shaman muttered under his breath as they gathered within the room. Looking around, Dorian couldn't help but stare in awe at the extravagant build of the theatre, the various balconies above, the seating arrangements, and of course the stage itself, all of them built to perfection, though such was the necessity for plays and the like that were often performed here. But alas, no such performance was on at the moment, an eerie silence keeping the room still and off-putting. And of course, there was the gentle thrum of dark energy that echoed within the air itself, as if the Miasma was beating against the wind; as a mage, Dorian could feel it coursing through his body and could almost see it's essence... it's aura... Unsettling, but there were more important worries to think about now. Charuen, the guild master, quickly took up the lead on the situation, explaining that they would be splitting up to cover more ground. With her and Lavinia set to investigate the bleachers above them, Dorian was with Laelia, tasked with investigating the backstage. Waiting for the other two to head off to their investigations, the Shaman moved to give Laelia a gentle and confident nod, gesturing for them to head towards the stage. Walking ahead, he moved toward the front of the wooden set, lifting his hands up and pushing on the edge of the stage to hoist himself up on top of it. Rolling himself slightly, he turned to get himself up completely, clambering up onto his feet gracefully so that he was standing properly, idly dusting himself out of habit. Once he was situated on top of the stage, he turned himself around to the Bard, lowering down to one knee and extending his hand to offer her help up onto the wooden construct. The stage area was devoid of any props for the time being, only a large wooden platform that was dimly lit by some lights up in the scaffolding. The bleachers on both sides had a number of blind spots, plenty of areas where a monster called the Black Essence could have hidden itself. The light itself was fairly dim, the result of light elemental mana crystals that were slowly losing their energy. Since her parents in the Yellow District were stage actors, it was typical that they were replaced every few days. Given the current amount of light, it was apparent that the haunting had occurred recently.
Their small group decided to split up in two - Charuen and Lavinia would be scouting out the bleacher area while Laelia and Dorian would make their way backstage. They would join back together if either group were to encounter the dark being or if neither group encountered it. There was still the scaffolding above that might warrant a search as well, after all. Nevertheless, the party agreed to the plan and began to search their respective areas. Laelia had a big premonition that the Essence would likely show up nearest to the stage. After all, if a theater was its own body, then the stage would have been its heart. Performances were carried on stage and it was the center that roused emotions in its theatergoers. It would have made sense that a being of emotional energy would have made its residence nearby.
It would seem that Dorian would have decided to ascend onto the stage directly rather than take the staircases on the side. The Shaman easily maneuevered himself up onto the platform and he had lowered his hand toward the blonde Lander to pull her up. Laelia gave him a light smile as she prepared to take his hand, but then she suddenly stopped. "Behind...!" Pointing just over Dorian's shoulder, she thought she saw something looming behind the man and was about to shout to warn him of the presence. It was difficult to describe in the spur of the moment, but it looked like a tall figure. A shadow man, so to speak. Not a second had passed after Laelia had directed a finger upward before it vanished without a trace the next moment. "...?" Laelia doubted that was simply a figment of her imagination. It was akin to exploring a haunted place and spotting a ghost for only a split second. True, it was easy to mistake anything for a supernatural being when you were trying to look for it, but ghost stories weren't all tales of fiction. Shaking her head lightly in attempts to concentrate, Laelia took the man's hand and pulled herself up on stage.
That was when the stage lighting ambiance changed. The stage gradually became dimmer until the light overhead was extinguished completely.
From the direction of those in the bleachers, it would appear as though there were small orbs of faintly glowing wisps of darkness covering the lights up above the theater. Nevertheless, as the two on stage would be trying to find their way around, the creature would appear beside them. Though invisible in the darkness, the presence of the being was an uncomfortable one. The negative emotions in one's mind would amplify in its presence. "I-it's here!" Nevertheless, Laelia didn't know what she could have done in the darkness without being able to pinpoint the essence's location. Her only idea was to prepare the Scarlet Symphony skill, so that sound waves would surround herself and Dorian to fend off any attacks for the time being.

Dorian was unsure of why time had seemed to stop for so long in that split moment where his hand remained extended. It was as if the world had frozen, remaining still for what seemed like months! But the chill that ran down his spine - due to the sudden outburst from his current partner in crime - was one of fear and terror. The blonde bard had alerted him to something occurring right behind him, and his mind became blank and unmoving as he wondered just exactly what was lurking upon the stage. He had of course been the fool not to check the area before brutishly charging up onto the wooden plankings of the theatre. Slowly, gradually, his head turned to glance over his shoulder, just catching the last glimpse of a shadowy figure that trailed the stage before it suddenly and inexplicably disappeared before his very eyes. Dorian stared unblinking at where the figure had once stood, before rapidly batting his eyelids in an attempt to refocus and see if the shadow would appear once more. Alas, it must have been a trick of the mind, or perhaps a stress-induced hallucination. They were here on a delicate mission after all; this was to be the Shaman's first interaction with a creature of Miasma. His past dealings with the dark substance were mere child's play compared to what they were attempting here today. Shaking his head, Dorian turned back to where Laelia remained, feeling her hand taken within his own; with a gentle heave of strength, he hoisted her up onto the stage beside him, standing up straight as the two of them were now accompanied by an eerie silence. The shadows were known for playing tricks from time to time, as they had done only moments ago, but perhaps there was merit to the sense of fear that permeated the theatre; after all, this was where the Miasma Realms were located, in a manner of speaking, and so there was much to be said about venturing in here unprepared. Luckily, Ephemeral Solace was here for a very specific reason. As if on cue towards his thoughts, the lighting upon the stage began to change, gradually dimming around them as if collections of candles were slowly being snuffed out by a raspy, darkened breath. Dorian glanced down at Laelia stood beside him, hand gently resting atop her shoulder to reassure her he was still there with her; it wouldn't do for either of them to get lost, or even worse, separated further than they already were in splitting the party up. But alas, vision faded, and as the Shaman's hand fell back down to his side, he blinked slowly as the light on the stage was extinguished, leaving the duo in a state of dense and blinding darkness. Only faint shapes and shades of grey could now be seen, and even they were beginning to fade. The air became cold and weighty, and the presence in the immediate vicinity changed as one's emotions played their own tricks, the negativity of fear and desperation amplified as their quarry soon arrived. Dorian heard Laelia speak, but was unsure as to from where; however, what she said was clear... the Black Essence they were looking for, had instead found them. Grasping at his longsword hilt, he withdrew it from his scabbard and brandished it in front of his form, but still the stage was a blanketed mess of darkness that was hard to penetrate. "Stay close if you can, we'll be weakened if we get separated," Dorian warned through the dark, hoping his words would reach the bard; as he spoke, he felt the strange presence of Laelia's magic begin to circulate, her music drowning out the last few words of his speech. A red mist formed around him as he held his weapon aloft, and - after a couple seconds had passed - the mist changed, mixing with the bard's mana to create an array of blood-red blades. Dorian nodded, the protection a welcome sight as his eyes attempted to peer through the dark and pick out the Black Essence; from what he had heard of it, the creature would be difficult to pin down, especially with it currently blended with the shadows. An idea struck him as he attempted to recall what skills he could use, his free hand twirling in front of him as he activated one of said abilities. Demon's Eye began to channel through his body, and after several seconds passed, a glowing blue radiance burst around his eyes, giving off a gentle light that helped improve his accuracy, especially against spectral creatures. Swivelling his blade, he turned his body in a graceful movement, his ability as a Dancer coming in handy as he aimed his weapon forth, spotting the Essence's form. "There it is!" He exclaimed with his voice, alerting Laelia to the monster's location and making the first strike against it with his brandished blade.
