Now!
Elfriede stepped to the side and swung her scythe. Her target was a young pittered boar, level one. Its attack patterns were basic and predictable, and she fought some on the Japanese servers in the past.
Looks like the servers share some enemies after all. Alright, remember your kendo and fencing training Mana, stay focused.
The boar came at her again, predictable as always. Dodging the boar by stepping to the side, Elfriede swung at the boar's legs, seeing if she can trip it. Surprisingly it worked, Elfriede wasn't expecting it to work, but it seems that striking different body parts does have an effect now that she had total control over the body.
Deadly Dance!
Not letting the chance go, Elfriede jumped into the air, spinning vertically, as she launched herself at the boar. Using the first tier Assassin Skill, Deadly Dance, Elfriede landed a downward slash on the boar.
Deadly Dance!
The boar was still recovering, so Elfriede took the chance to perform another Deadly Dance, making use of its increased damage effect. Upon each successful use of Deadly Dance, the next Deadly Dance gets a damage boost. It isn't easy to find a chance to repeatedly use the skill in most situations, at least solo anyway, but Elfriede now knew that she should see fights in Elder Tale as more like real world fights, with intimidation and more strict timing, as well as manual called shots.
So I can trip the boars by striking at their legs. I guess I should try to target limbs to disable or cripple my targets. Also I really need to find some paper and something to write with so I can write notes on these guys.
Elfriede spent a decent amount of time practicing on imaginary enemies so she figured she should start wailing on some level one enemies. The chances of death are low and it would earn her some money so she can stay at an inn. She heard the food was tasteless though, sadly, so she can't expect a good meal when she gets back to London. Still at least she can enjoy the comforts of a warm bed. Though, she heard that ingredients and fruits still had their tastes. A diet of fruit and vegetables doesn't sound too bad.
I wonder if chefs can make food taste better somehow? Maybe it is based on the chef level somehow?
As Elfriede pondered on the little information she knew, another boar appeared, spawning right in front of her. Gripping her scythe, Elfriede watched the boar very carefully, ready to dodge at any time. As predicted, the boar charged at her, allowing her to side step and counter attack appropriately.
Too predictable.
Having struck the legs again, Elfriede watched as the boar tripped and slammed into a tree—falling into a bit of a daze.
Deadly Dance!
Activating Deadly Dance again, Elfriede launched herself at the boar, striking it with a spinning slash. Deadly Dance was one of the few Assassin skills with a short cooldown so it was usable again shortly after, allowing Elfriede to activate it once more for its bonus damage effect.
Deadly Dance!

WORDS 822 TAGS Elfriede NOTES Beatdown Active! Charlotte stepped slowly into the woods examining the area immediately out of the town. Trees were everywhere coupled with players sitting in them and on the ground. The area was a complete PVP zone, but none of them seemed to be worried. They were all either extremely prepared or understood that no one at this level was worth killing. Charlotte herself knew that all too well. She'd spent most of her time working with needles and cloth, so the idea of fighting anything from boars to people pretty much confused her on every level. We were all stuck in the game and it seemed that killing things made no difference. The only reason she even found it necessary to kill things was to gather materials.
With a wary face, she stepped into the woods deeper, keeping an eye out for anything strange. Her scarf floated gently with each step, wafting carefully in the air. Luckily for her class-type, she didn't need to worry about carrying a heavy weapon around. She had her fists and that's all that mattered. The warm daylight sun pressed against her face and head, causing her to smile and look up, protecting her eyes with her hands. It was a beautiful day out. No doubt this was real, there was no way this could be generated by a video game. The sound of fighting intensified, as Charlotte walked, with the sound of skills activating in several locations throughout the forest. Raising a single hand and apply pressure to the air, she'd open her interface, scanning the area to see if she could highlight any names in the immediate area.
Huh... Nothing but wild boars as far as... She stopped for a second, holding her hand over a small area and watching as a name lit up. El-Frie-De. She'd pronounce in her mind. With a movement of her hands, she'd send a party request before even revealing her own location. As a sort of way of making sure they were friendly. As she sent the request, she'd slowly creep through the bushes, looking at the girl fight with a scythe. It was a rather unorthodox weapon, especially considering Charlotte always imagined Assassins using ninja-like tools. Though she could probably attribute that to watching too many shounen anime like Naruto or Bleach.
Stepping out into the open, Charlotte would raise both of her hands up, showing she was entirely unarmed. Though it wouldn't matter, she was a monk after all and monks didn't have their own weapon class. Hello there! She'd say aloud, grabbing the other girls attention. I'm Charlotte Lafleur. Would you mind partying with me? I'm not much of a fighter, just a simple tailor looking to level up my combat skills and maybe gather some good rare materials! She'd laugh a little, a genuine smile stretching across her face. In reality, Charlotte was not entirely alien to fighting. She'd trained in Korean Karate for a good four years. In fact, it was the reason she'd decided upon being a monk rather than returning to her old class as a Samurai. Looking at the boar, Charlotte would smile. Seeing the animal brought back a sense of nostalgia. It was good to see that some of the monsters were rehashes from the Japanese and American servers.
Charlotte figured, it would be a half-decent idea to try and at least come off a bit personable as she poke to the assassin. Back when this was a game. Er... She'd stop for a moment, re-thinking her words. Well... Back when I used to play it as a game anyway. I was a Samurai over in North America. She'd smile a bit, tilting her head and continuing to speak. She wasn't expecting the other girl to reply, but, she at least wanted to attempt to start conversation. When Elder Tale was a game, Charlotte herself hated when other players attempted to friend request her or party request her without decent reason. It was actually pretty annoying.
The sound of rustling would come from behind, causing Charlotte to pivot on the ball of her foot and bounce backwards, getting immediately into a prepared stance. Her eyes shown a determined look as she clenched her fist, watching as the boar leaped from the bushes toward her. Charlotte would cross her arms over her face, taking the brunt of the attack and sliding backwards. Reaching with one hand, she'd grab the head of the boar, twisting her body from her hip and tossing it behind her towards a tree. Using her hip toss to gain room, she'd activate a skill, her body beginning to glow red.
Here we go! Beatdown! Holding her fists to her side for a split second, a new symbol would appear on her HUD, showing the skill had begun to activate. She'd launch herself toward the boar, sending a heavy punch towards it's snout, then a quick roundhouse to it's side.

even if that thing is God
Elfriede watched the new girl kill the boar with a deadpan face. However, that deadpan face turned into a flustered one once she began to introduce herself, “H-h-hi, I'mm Elf-ri-ede, an a-s-s-sa-s-s-sin.” Elfriede was a mute in real life so it was difficult for her to just suddenly speak. Not once before she found herself in Elder Tale did Elfriede speak, having been born with defective vocal cords. “I wa-as a le-v-vel nine-t-ty su-mo-mon-ner on the Ja-j-apan-ese server,” Elfriede said as she struggled to speak. Little did she know that her flustered face only made her more adorable, a doll-like cuteness. “I wa-as a m-mute in th-the o-ri-g-gi-n-nal w-world so I c-ca-ca-can't s-s-sp-p-eak w-well.” Immediately afterwards, Elfriede, still with her adorable flustered face, repeated what she said in sign language, 'Hi, I'm Elfriede, an assassin. I was a level ninety summoner on the Japanese server. I was a mute in the original world so I can't speak well.' Then she noticed a little message on her holographic GUI.
Huh? I leveled up? THREE TIMES!?
Elfriede quickly opened up her status screen and checked her level. She found herself as a level four assassin. An option for a new skill appeared and pressing it brought up a list of skills Elfriede could learn.
Hmmmm, Shadow Bind, Hide Entry, Accel Dance, Hide Walk, and others. So many skills to choose from. Shadow Bind gives me a CC skill, Hide Entry is a nice scouting skill, Accel Dance can work well with Deadly Dance, though Hide Walk lets me starting using Stealth in Combat. Hmmm, if I use Hide Walk or Hide Entry, I can combine it with Silent Move so I can work on Tracker at the same time as Assassin. Hide Walk gives me a bit more combat options and can be used more times. Hmmm, I think Hide Walk is best for me right now. I can use it with Deadly Dance, combining Deadly Dance's increased damage and Hide Walk's increased critical hit rate and accuracy bonus.
Selecting Hide Walk, Elfriede turned her attention back to the monk girl. About to ask her if she had any info on reviving at the cathedral or food, Elfriede's attention was captured by another boar.
Let's test out Hide Walk.
Waiting for the boar to charge at her, Elfriede stood still, ready to side step. As the boar predictably charged, Elfriede side stepped and swung at the boar's legs, tripping it. As it fell on to the ground, Elfriede immediately followed up.
Deadly Dance!
Launching herself at the boar, Elfriede struck it with a downward spinning slash before backing off and activating Hide Walk, focusing her mind on the skill.
Hide Walk.
Invisible to the naked eye, the boar got up and searched for Elfriede but only saw Charlotte. Before it could change targets, Elfriede appeared out of thin air, spinning in the air for another Deadly Dance.
Deadly Dance!
This time Deadly Dance scored a critical hit thanks to Hide Walk's effect of increasing the next attack's accuracy and critical hit rate. Furthermore, as it was her second Deadly Dance, it had an additional damage boost on top of it, easily striking down the boar with one critical hit.

WORDS 1280 TAGS Open NOTES La-la-la Charlotte would feel a great deal of satisfaction as the boar before her was defeated in a puff of smoke. It dropped several pieces of leather which Charlotte picked up smiling an leaping into the air. Awesome! More materials for crafting! She'd say aloud, as she landed on the ground. As the boar was defeated, her Beatdown Combo Gauge would reset, giving her an additional boost to her speed and strength. It became apparent to her that this skill only maintained itself for the duration of her fighting. She would need to continue defeating monsters to maintain the boosts in speed and power. The class was so different from Samurai, but held its own satisfaction. Something about beating a monster with her own hands just felt much better than doing it with a heavy blade or club. Something she herself didn't understand, nor could she explain to anyone else. It was something she could only experience and tell others to experience.
She'd smile, listening to the other girl speak. She had a speech impediment but it wasn't at all hard to understand what she was saying. After all, she'd adjusted to English dialect after all, a bit of stuttering wasn't enough to cause Charlotte to need another hearing. All in all, Charlotte thought the entire situation was extremely cute. The cuteness factor was multiplied tenfold when she began using sign language to speak. Yeah I don't know sign language... She'd pause a bit, getting herself back into her stance. Her skin was still glowing a light red as she continued to speak. Just speak to me, or if you want, use the party chat to speak to mentally. She'd smile, darting quickly to another pig and sending a quick uppercut to it's jaw. It would float gently into the air, beginning a summersault as it floated. Charlotte would step into a punch, twisting at her hips and allowing the centripetal force to rocket her punch into the body of the boar. Coupled with stepping into it, her beatdown boost was enough to deal a great bit of damage.
Charlotte would prepare the finisher, forcing all of her weigh to one side of her body, she'd twist once more, in the opposite direction. As she moved, she'd bring her shin to the pig with a great deal of force. Her leg would connect, causing the boar to go launching away before dying in a tuft of smoke and light. The low-pitched squeal caused her to laugh and smile as she picked up the leather material drops, placing them into her bag and preparing to attack another boar. The boars she'd seen so far had all been level 1, making their experience gain very small and minuscule. The next one which would leap from the bushes was twice the size, standing at level 2. Charlotte herself was only level 1, but she boasted a bigger defensive boost as well as a higher amount of HP. She was unsure of it's attack damage, but it couldn't possibly be very high considering boars were starter monsters to get players used to the game.
As it leaped forward, it would attack Charlotte who'd put her arms up to prepare for the hit. The boar's teeth would sink into her forearms, causing her to yell in pain. Augh! With a heavy twist, she'd grab the boar's snout, lifting it and throwing it towards the ground over her shoulder. Blood trickled slowly from her forearms and she clenched her teeth, getting into her stance bouncing lightly from toe to toe. This pain confirmed it for her, this was all real. Though the game had magical qualities, such as giving the blind sight and the mute the ability to speak, it was all still very real. The sight of her own blood tossed her into a serious nature which she normally reserved for the real world.
Dashing towards the boar, she would prepare herself for a swift right hook towards the side of it's face. The boar would counter attack, attacking the middle of her torso. Using this chance, Charlotte would step into the attack, sending her fist into the left eye of the boar, causing it to fall backwards in pain. Huh... So attacking the eyes really yields blindness huh... She'd think as she picked up the boar, swinging it downward on the ground like an old blanket. The boar's HP would drop quickly before she tossed it away. The boar would recover, rolling and picking itself onto its hooves. Charlotte stood in a stance, staring the boar down and breathing heavily. She was tired and Beatdown was beginning to drain her MP heavily. She'd need to quickly wrap up this fight and although she was hitting hard, she lacked any heavy-hitting skills.
Gathering her energy into one foot, she'd push forward towards the boar, punching it's snout once with one hand, then moving quickly underneath it. She'd wrap her arms around the boars neck, lifting with her legs and pulling it over as she clenched her teeth. Here we GOO! She'd yell, watching as the heavy boar flipped over her shoulder, slamming harshly into the ground. Dust floated up in every direction followed by loud squealing and smoke. She'd reach down, sighing to herself and speaking aloud while panting. Only... Regular... Materials...? Putting both of her hands on the ground, she'd pick up the materials, placing it into her pouch and breathing heavily.
She'd catch her breath later, patting the dust off of her and stepping towards the small Assassin. It's very nice to meet you. I see you've leveled up quite a bit! Charlotte would laugh, looking at the girl's HP and MP increase. She couldn't help but wonder just how long Elfriede had been here, considering she'd leveled 3 times in one sitting. It was true though, that the leveling was always quicker in the lower numbers. It would quickly pick up in the higher ranges though, she could only imagine the gap between level 89 and 90. With a smile on her face, she'd stand before the assassin, awaiting any conversation which was to ensue.
She'd gotten plenty of materials which made this trip for her a success, even if she were to stop and leave right now. She needed to experiment more with the materials and she'd finally found a way to do it. She questioned if any of the other crafting classes were able to craft in a similar fashion to her. She'd found out that if you don't actually use the interface, you can craft anything that logically makes sense. She could only question the usability if it was coupled with something like Alchemy or Cooking. With that in mind, she'd look at her own AP bar, which was going up even now from the kill. It rose at a steady rate and she knew not when it'd stop, but she hoped she'd get at least one level from it.
Rubbing her hands along the wound she'd received from the boar, she'd be surprised, realizing the wound had already begun to close. She was no longer bleeding and her HP was beginning to recover on its own. How long have you been training in this forest? She'd ask, questioning the small girl. She didn't want to directly point out her cuteness, but she had to restrain herself to do so. Something about a little assassin girl running around with a scythe was unbearably cute to Charlotte. It was something you'd only see in an Anime. In fact, the entire situation felt as if it came right out of an Anime. She'd laugh a bit, as the thought came to her.

My eyes can see the death of everything

even if that thing is God
Elfriede wasn't really too surprised at Charlotte's fighting abilities; their bodies knew how to fight so they could just call on their body's knowledge when they needed it. Although they really shouldn't rely on their body's knowledge too much. Their bodies may not always be ready, especially at high level areas. Just then another message appeared on Elfriede's GUI.
I thought I just leveled up? What!? Three more levels? Oooooh, I see, I have to select a skill or the level up is held back. When I selected Hide Walk, I already had enough exp for th next three level ups. Hmmm, what to pick this time? Well since I have an attack and a self buff, I could take a debuff to balance it out. Shadow Bind is also a crowd control skill so that can be extra useful and also works well with Hide Walk for a sudden bind.
Selecting Shadow Bind, Elfriede jumped up to Level 7. When asked about how long she had been here she replied, “I... uhh... hhhhhaave b-b-b-beeen here f-f-or a few h-ours,... but I... d-d-did... sooome t-t-traaaining yeesterday as w-w-well.” Her face was again flustered and red; Mana always did have a sort of doll-like cuteness to her, especially when she was wearing an exquisite dress. “I... uhh arrrgh!” Her frustration reached its peak and as she spotted a new boar charging at her, Elfriede carefully checked its shadow, gripped her scythe at its end to obtain maximum range, and swung at the boar's shadow.
Shadow Bind!
Immediately, shadowy tendrils emerged from the boar's shadow, wrapping around it and binding it, preventing it from moving for a short period of time. Elfriede immediately closed in on it, twirling her scythe—ready to vent her frustration on the poor animal who was now basically screaming for help as it saw the deranged creepy smile on Elfriede's face. In a violent yet beautiful display, Elfriede rapidly twirled her scythe, creating a circle of cutting iron almost like a buzz saw. The boar was barraged by a series of blows, while lighter than Elfriede's usual blows were far more numerous.
Deadly Dance!
Then jumping into the air and spinning vertically, Elfriede landed a downward slash with Deadly Dance, killing the boar. She could hear a squeal as another boar just witnessed its friend's demise. As she turned her attention to the other boar, who stumbled a bit, she suddenly vanished.
Hide Walk!
The boar was in a bit of shock. The little girl that just brutally murdered its friend with a large scythe suddenly disappeared. It had lost sight of her for just a second, but that was enough for Elfriede to activate Hide Walk. Suddenly, Elfriede appeared from thin air.
Deadly Dance!
She had launched herself at the boar using Deadly Dance, taking advantage of its damage increase and combining with with the bonuses from Hide Walk. In a single critical hit, Elfriede impaled the blade of her scythe into the boar's skull, instantly killing it. However, her face turned red as she realized she lost control of herself for a moment there. “Ah! Uhhh s-s-sorry, I ju-ust s-s-s-or-t of lost con...trol of my...self.”
I can't let myself go like that! I'll become completely deranged and demented!
Her face became redder and more flustered as she berated herself. Elfriede really did have a sort of doll-like cuteness to her, something that only embarrasses her—leading to a downward spiral where her embarrassment leads he to becoming more flustered which leads her to appearing cuter which leads her to becoming even more embarrassed, repeating the cycle.
What do I do!? What do I do!? If this keeps up I will—
Elfriede's coordination also takes a bit of a nose dive. As she recklessly waved around her arms, she accidentally sliced off a small tree branch which landed on her hand. “Oof! M-m-my h-h-head—kya!” Then she tripped and fell flat on her face. As she raised her head, tears began forming. Those who known Mana in the past often joked about how she was a dangerous weapon as her cuteness overload could cause heart attacks. They joked about how they could weaponize videos of her and make a mint in not only the weapons business but the entertainment business. Although, they were not too far on the entertainment business as many clubs wanted Mana as a sort of mascot, especially those that discovered her second life as a net idol.
What does this keep happening to me...
“Uuuuuuuu.”

NOTES notes hur | Penumbro made his way through the forest with a smile on his face, it had evaded his attention as he killed his first boar, but he had raised his bard level to 7, and as such was granted two more skills to add to his repertoire. After slight deliberation as to which of his bard songs he should get, he had chosen to learn Speed Sword Etude in addition to Elegant Dance. So now he had a song and two attack skills at his disposal so he might be helpful to any party if they had asked him to join.
Continuing along the path, he happened upon a battle between two players and two boars. Penumbro stopped walking and watched the battle take place before his eyes. The small girl who had nearly taken his head off the first day, Elfriede, was doing battle with another lady, a monk it looked like. Penumbro’s smile widened as he watched the assassin and monk go to work.
Elfriede stood her ground against a charging boar, then in one quick fluid motion, the black haired assassin side stepped her opponent and tripped it with her scythe, following it up with a downward spinning slash. Retreating quickly, she seemed to enter a deeply focused stance. As Penumbro wondered she might do, she disappeared before the boar could establish visual contact with her again, and it seemed the boar was alone with the monk who was doing battle with her own boar. But before the boar could switch its aggro table, Elfriede appeared once more to end its life with another slash from her scythe. As the boar dissipated and the assassin bent down to collect the spoils of battle, Penumbro looked over to see the monk had also finished combat. Taking out his violin, he walked into the clearing to announce his presence to the two ladies.
“Well met once more, Elfriede! And it’s a pleasure to meet your acquaintance, lady monk! Since we all seem to be targeting the same group of monsters, how about we all group together and make this faster on all of us? I can provide you both with a nice attack speed buff and can handle myself in combat quite a deal,” He said, bowing first to Elfriede and then to the female monk, flashing his right canine at them in a charming smile. Without allowing much time for them to respond, Penumbro started playing his Speed Sword Etude, playing several excitable notes in succession as he shifted his view between the assassin and monk in order to bless them with his song. After they had both received the buff, he focused and closed his eyes and directed the buff unto himself, as well. Penumbro felt his joints loosen up and felt more agile, as if he could shoot arrows that traveled faster than the winds of a typhoon. As he ended the song, he put away his violin and pulled out his Long Bow and winked at the assassin as he notched an arrow.
A boar entered Penumbro’s field of vision, so Penumbro took aim, but instead of simple letting the arrow flying, Penumbro activated his skill, Elegant Dance. Penumbro jumped into the air and let his arrow flying, notching another arrow and he descended to the earth, rolling forward and firing his second arrow at the boar. The first arrow struck home in the boars back and the second in its stomach. The boar squealed in fury as it charged at the bard, whose smile widened as he retreated back, letting the boar gain some ground on him. When the boar was close enough to where Penumbro could here its raspy snorting due to the arrow stuck in its stomach, Penumbro notched another arrow. The boar lunged forward hoping to tackle the bard to the ground, but Penumbro leapt backwards once, activated his Elegant Dance a second time, and leapt once more, back flipping and shooting his arrow as he landed. The third arrow struck home in the boar’s skull with what seemed to be practiced marksmanship. Penumbro was very glad he had chosen to grab Hunter as a subclass, because his skill with a bow increased whilst fighting beasts. The boar didn’t seem ready to die yet, however, as it was getting up from the ground and resuming its advance upon the bard. The bard sighed as he notched another arrow and drew back the string. “A very valiant effort, may your spirit rest well in the afterlife, young boar,” Penumbro said as he left the arrow fly, piercing the boar’s skull once again and finally killing it off. Penumbro then turned and bowed at the assassin and monk, “I hope I’ve at least shown myself capable party member,” he said as he smiled and slung the long bow over his shoulder.

WORDS 1064 TAGSOpen NOTES La-la-la The sound of bells going off overhead would surprise her as she looked through her inventory. It seemed fighting that boar had given her just enough experience to reach level 5. Holding a single hand in the air about the height of her face, she'd smile, opening her interface. I wonder what the skills look like for monks! She thought, bouncing on her toes lightly. For samurai the skills were awesome, but back in the American server, she'd never seen any powerful monks. Her excitement would bubble over as she scrolled through the list of skills. Looking through them, she wasn't exactly excited with many of them. They were all Area of Effect techniques from what she could see. That or ones which needed heavy follow ups. She'd tap her chin lightly with her left hand, humming to herself as she picked one she found intriguing. Aura... Dragon... Punch... She'd speak quietly as she clicked the name, delegating her skill point to the ability.
Reading the description she'd tilt her head, cupping her hands together and gathering her MP into a small ball. It would drain quickly from her mana bar, causing her to stop in alarm. Sheesh they weren't kidding. This technique really does cost a whole 10% every time I use it... She'd think, looking down at the orb she'd formed between her two palms. She was curious what type of damage it was capable of doing, considering the cost, but she lacked a target currently. As she stopped feeding the orb MP, it would quickly fade away in a faint blue light. Holding her hands up and looking at them, a smile would creeper across he face. Excitement would bubble up and over her again, causing her to leap into the air. More than anything, she was excited to fight more monsters, acquire more materials, and meet more people.
Wrapped up in her own leveling and skills, Charlotte had failed to notice the girl flailing about and hurting herself as a tree branch fell atop her head. She'd turn, seeing the situation and beginning to laugh with her hand covering her mouth. The smaller girl was fairly cute. Her habits coupled with her size would have made anyone want her as a pet or a mascot. That said, Charlotte would have found it rude to say something like that aloud, so she kept it to herself. As she smiled, she'd walk to the girl, moving the branch from her head and patting the girls head lightly, helping her stand.
The sound of rustling in the bushes would cause Charlotte to pivot on her feet again, bouncing back into a stance with her fists held ready. She was prepared for another boar to come crashing through the bushes and now that she'd leveled several times, she was more than ready to handle any which were coming her direction. The first thing which Charlotte began to notice was not that which game from a boar, however. She saw a fur which was white and striped, entirely different from what a boar would be seen with. She prepared herself for a fight, but dropped her arms back to her side as she noticed a humanoid figure step out, holding a violin at that. A Werecat? She'd say mentally, folding one of her arms behind her back. He would immediately address Elfriede, leading Charlotte to believe they'd met prior.
Charlotte would tilt her head as the werecat introduced himself, as a bard, offering to party up and give some helpful buffs to the group. Charlotte had no reason to deny the offer, considering the experience rate here seemed to be rather nice. Before she could response, however, she'd hear a bit of music and her body felt lighter. Looking into the corner of her HUD, she'd see a speed buff which cause a smile to stretch across her face once more. Bowing her head with her hands pressed together in a respectful way, Charlotte would speak. Thank you, I'm Charlotte, a Monk. Lifting her head slightly, she'd open her eye to realize the Werecat had begun to fight a boar already, making her little introduction entirely unnecessary.
Looking from one eye, she'd notice the Werecat moving effortlessly through the air and knocking arrows both quickly and expertly. His movements were quicker than her own, causing her to feel a bit of awe come over her. Very nice! She'd say, giving a thumbs up and getting into her own stance. A boar would step into her direction, causing a determined facade to slide onto her face. Applying a bit of pressure to the air, she'd send a party request to the newcomer, not even looking in his direction. She'd quickly cup her hands again, draining her MP into a ball in her hand. She'd laugh as she began her technique, reminding herself of a video game she used to play back in the states.
Shinkuuu! She'd yell as the energy formed a rather large ball. She'd then compress it, stepping into a thrust, and forcing the ball towards the target. Hadouken! She'd hold the stance a bit as the orb was launched from her hand. As the MP was drained, she felt a bit of fatigue come over her. Breathing heavily she'd dash towards the target, watching as the orb exploded on contact and caused the pig to squeal, falling over in pain. She'd gather her MP around her body again, causing her skin to glow a bit red. Beatdown! She'd yell, watching as the symbol formed under her HP bar once again. Sending a kick to the side of the Boar, it would suffer a great deal of damage. She'd leveled 4 times since the last boar she'd fought, causing her to overkill. The boar exploded into light and smoke as it fell over, dropping materials and meat.
Picking the materials up, she'd laugh a bit, scratching the back of her head. Guys, I think we might need to find harder monsters to kill. These are too weak and we don't want to take them all away from the lower levels. She'd chuckle a bit, placing the materials into her bag and watching her experience bar go up very slowly. She wasn't gaining experience as quickly as before, but it was fast enough. She'd probably gain two more levels from the fighting she'd done here.

even if that thing is God
“Ah! Mis-ter Pe-Pe-Pe-num-bro,” Elfriede replied, struggling to greet the werecat bard she almost cleaved in two on the first day. “T-t-thank… you… for the… buff.”
Huh?
Another level up message appeared on Elfriede’s user interface. That last boar just shot her up to tenth level.
“I l-l-le-veled up a-gain, le-vel ten now,” Elfriede told her two party members.
Selecting the skill Quick Draw, Elfriede read the description and began formulating its usage.
I could use this to close gaps during a battle. It could be useful in interrupting attacks as well. Though I wonder if I could use this with a feint. Perhaps if I—
Elfriede’s thought was interrupted for a bit as the bushes around the trio of adventurers rustled. While she was alarmed at first, she noticed that the rustling was getting further and further away showing that whatever was causing it was retreating from the advanturers.
Our levels are raising rapidly, stronger mobs should be appearing soon. Lower level mobs are programmed to ignore players of higher levels unless provoked. The next set of boars may be a bit stronger.
As Elfriede predicted, rather than Young Pittered Boars, adult Pittered Boars appeared, characterized by their fully grown tusks. Normally docile, they appeared rather angry due to the genocide of their young, perfectly understandable. Doesn’t mean the slaughterers were going to just let the boars have their revenge, at least Elfriede won’t anyway.
They range from level six to ten, but considering how close we are to town, I wouldn't gauge them as anything higher than seven. Still, I better be careful, my gear is still only the starter gear after all.
Immediately, one of the boars charged at Elfriede, catching her a bit off guard with its faster speed as her timing had become a bit too used to the younger boars. However, while Elfriede didn’t have the time to dodge, she was still able to use the blade of her scythe to block the tusks off but took some chip damage in the process.
I’m getting a bit careless.
Pushing back, Elfriede caused the boar to lose its balance for a bit and used the chance to attack it. However, the boar recovered sooner than she expected and jumped back, barely dodging the scythe before attempting another charge.
Alright, let’s see if this works.
Blocking the boar’s charge again, Elfriede pushed it back and attempted another swing. Once again the boar barely dodged the swing, but it was part of Elfriede’s plan. She had a new little skill called Quick Draw that would allow her to quickly close the gap.
Skill cancel.
Normally there would be a recovery time to Elfriede’s missed swing, but she incorporated the recovery movement into the preparatory movement for Quick Draw, spinning the scythe a hundred-eighty degrees in her hand before she tightened her grip and locked her gazes on the boar—all during the recovery movement of her first swing. She obtained the idea from some games she played where she would exploit the game’s engine a bit and performed an action that would negate the recovery animation of the previous action allowing her to perform her next action much sooner. She couldn’t replicate the animation cancelling technique exactly as this was another reality rather than a game. However, she is able obtain a similar effect by converting any sort of recovery movement into preparatory movements, allowing for near seamless transitioning in her attacks. It was a tricky technique however, often looking better on paper, however it wasn’t a class skill and thus was a technique anyone can employ given enough practice and experimenting.
Quick Draw!
With the attack speed bonus from Penumbro’s song, Elfriede was able to complete any preparatory movements before the boar touched the ground and launched herself at the boar, swinging her scythe at it mid jump. Her scythe sliced through one of its eyes and knocked it back further. However, Elfriede wasn’t done just yet. As the boar landed on its feet and was recovering from the attack, Elfriede launched herself at the boar again, this time using Deadly Dance, aiming for its other eye. Slicing through the boar’s second eye, Elfriede was able to blind it.
Hide Walk.
With its eye sight disabled, the boar was left wide open to Hide Walk, allowing Elfriede to activate the skill for increased accuracy and critical hit chance. Disappearing for just a moment, Elfriede appear again, landing a spinning downward slash on the boar.
Skill cancel, Shadow Bind.
Once again employing her cancellation technique, Elfriede sliced through the snout of the boar and into its shadow, giving her the chance to use Shadow Bind. However, as the shadowy tendrils wrapped around the boar. As Elfriede prepared to deal one final blow to the boar, she was interrupted by two additional boars.
Damn, I got careless again.
Quickly raising her scythe to block the two boars, Elfriede was sent back flying for a short distance, barely landing on her feet.
I better, wait my skills and MP are—
One of the assassin’s weaknesses is the long cooldown time most of its skills employ. The only skill that was active to Elfriede at the moment was Deadly Dance and even if more of her skills were ready to use, her MP was dropping quite fast due to the repeated skill usage—partly due to her being used to playing as a summoner with its large MP pool—a sign that she was still inexperienced with her class.
Shadow Bind won’t last forever. I better figure something out quickly or this is going to turn ugly soon.
Elfriede held her scythe in a stance, waiting for the boars. However, there was something Elfriede had forgotten. While she was in a guild on the Japanese servers and regularly participated in raids, Elfriede still spent the majority of her time as a solo summoner—taking full advantage of its versatility—resulting in her teamwork being a bit spotty. The fact that she had a party had slipped her mind and it was now their turn in the spotlight.
