Mapping woods

Stretching up from my work area, I take the stack of papers and books I work with and sort them into their proper areas. "What time was it?" I ponder, moving towards the stairs. Sunlight sneaks in through small cracks, suggesting morning. "This late? I mean early?" I sigh, moving towards the kitchen. "Glad I finally got this place. it took a little bit of help from friendly people, but I have a place to call my own." Starting to make myself breakfast.

Cleaning the dishes I prepared my meal with, I move to my room to equip my gear, I'd be heading into town to check the guild board. Then possible going on a mission. After getting the equipment on, I take the time to properly style my hair into the usual ponytail. Playing with it till satisfaction, I then left out the front door. Walking down the path and out into the nearby wood only a few feet away.

"This way to tow.... what is that?" My eyes catching a wooden case just laying about. "Why is it there? What is it? A trap? I don't believe so." Slowly I step towards the case. Finally reaching it, it seemed to contain roll of parchment. Curiously I open the paper. "A map? To where? I mean, I suppose I can postpone going to the guild just one day." Slowly I recognized landmarks. Walking to where the map first started somewhere near the edge of town.

Finally reaching the edge of town, I scan the fields. Seeing a piles of rocks I dash over to them. A pile of rocks, that I don't ever remembered seeing seems to be the first landmark. As it did very, very vaguely resembled an lion. Looking under the rocks, it was fresh green grass. "I believe this have only recently been put here, but by who?" I question, looking at the map once more. Not aware of any nearby presence.

Shuwen had been more then a little surprised to find himself in the world of an mmo. Fictional stories about similar situations prevented him from being completely bowled over by the situation, but he was still more then a little surprised by the situation. After testing out a few of the basic functions and capabilities of players, he’d decided it was about time he tried out the combat system. As expected, it was a bit harder then he remembered.

The bolt made a squishing sound as it hit the slime. Its status bar turned red as it was aggro’ed by the attack. As it closed in, the blue haired adventurer reloaded his crossbow and managed to get off another shot before it was too close to make archery a feasible combat option. Holding the crossbow under one arm, he lifted a leg and used Zoom attack as he lashed out with a kick. Having gotten three hits in, the slime’s HP had dropped to about fifty percent, but the monk was in a bad position to evade its counterattack with just one leg. The slime’s body convulsed and shot forward, slamming into his midsection, taking off a chunk of his HP.

Well, at least the hotkey system works. He thought as he was knocked off his feet. But staring down monsters like this is completely different from just playing a game. The slime didn’t give him time to stand up, and had already closed most of the distance between them by the time he was back on his feet. His crossbow had been knocked out of his hands, and even if he managed to grab it, it needed reloading. He’d have to use unarmed combat to beat it.

Clenching one hand, he slammed it against the ground “Tiger Echo Fist!” The resulting shockwave knocked back the slime, interrupting its charge. Seizing the initiative, Shuwen ran in, punching it twice before following up with a front kick that reduced its health to zero. Yep, that was definitely harder then it should have been. He thought grimly. If it’s that hard to fight a slime, just how tough are the serious monsters gonna be? Ugggghhh.  After retrieving and reloading his crossbow, the monk moved on to look for other monsters.  As he walked, he scanned the surrounding area, for monsters or anything else of use.  Hmm.  The rocks, bushes, and other terrain might make for decent cover, but most mobs attack too quickly to use them.  An acrobat might be able to use them to move in three dimensions to give themselves an advantage, but that's not really an option for me.  His eyes turned back on the bow he was holding.  Well, at least I have this, yeah?  As he continued searching, he noticed a human-shaped silhouette some distance away.  A lander, or another adventurer?  I guess it's worth checking out.  As there were a fair number of monsters in the area, it was probably another adventurer, but you could never be sure, especially in a low level area.

However, as he wandered closer, the thing didn't seem to move at all, indicating it probably wasn't a living being. I guess checking it out would probably be a waste of time. With that, he turned around and headed in the opposite direction.
