Alexander threw his bag against the wall the moment he got home. He kicked off his shoes and marched past the kitchen. His mother was at the stove preparing dinner. At the sound of his arrival she turned to speak to him. Alex pretended not to see her. It was one of the few advantages to being deaf. If you weren't directly in front of him, he could just pretend not to have seen you. That way you would have to actually track him down if you really wanted to talk, and it usually wasn't worth the effort. Especially if you had something that required the use of your hands, such as cooking. It was a temporary relief, you couldn't go around avoiding the people you lived with forever after all, but it would give him the time he needed to escape. Alex had heard of a game called Elder Tale from a friend, so late last night he purchased a copy and installed it on his computer. Loading it up now, he was greeted with bright colors and shiny letters welcoming him to Elder Tale. There was balloons and streamers, and as always, no sound. Why was he playing this game anyways? Everyone knew the top players of any MMO relied on audio just as much as visual in order to play. How the hell was he going to be good without that advantage? I little pissed off at his hesitation Alex started adjusting his character. He set everything to the max he could. If he couldn't hear, he'd at least be bigger, stronger, and better looking than anyone else. He hesitated one last time at the name plate though. Thinking about how his day had gone, no, his whole life, he typed in the letters G-A-I-J-I-N. It meant 'outsider' or so he was informed, and it seemed perfect. After all that's what Alex had been his entire life. An outsider in his own home. Satisfied, Alex clicked the log in screen and the lights assaulted his eyes until his vision went black.
His eyes opened and he felt sick. Something was tearing apart the inside of his skull and he had no idea what it was. He was standing in the center of an old building with vines growing haphazardly everywhere. The throbbing at the sides of his skull got worse so he took a step forward and immediately fell to the ground. Had he always been so large? His depth perception was way off! The noise of his own body hitting the ground brought him to tears. His hands trembled as they slowly rose to his ears. He could hear! He could HEAR! Tears streamed down his face as his body shook with laughter. Laughter. The first sound he heard in his life. It hurt like the seven hells, but he loved it all the same.

Post by Burai on Feb 8, 2015 4:36:52 GMT
Burai was off day dreaming. He was enjoying his time in this new world. He found himself alone today. He spent his early morning on top of a creaky old building. Staring up at the sky, clouding watching. It was the simple pleasure like these he couldn't do back 'home.' Not that he wanted to go back. He was more than content with his life here, enjoying his leisure. There wasn't any family drama, no awkward silence at the dinner table. He wondered how his dad was holding up. "Tch." Burai brushed his tip of his chin with his knuckle. "I should just forget about it, right? I have other more important things to think about. Like how am I going to keep up with Nyumo." Suddenly he caught a glimpse of a cloud, that was shaped like a snow cone.
Cloud watching was fun, he often enjoyed spotting the clouds that looked like monsters. He placed both of his hands on his chest, and let out a long and slothful yawn. He didn't know how long he had been on the roof, maybe for a couple of hours. But, unfortunately all good this must come to end. The sky began to dim, "Getting late already?" Burai barrel rolled over onto his side. He didn't want to get down, He should probably get down and find Nyumo. Burai casually walked to the stairwell and slowly made his way down the building. He began to hear some odd noises, as he traveled further down. Uncertain about what they could be he decided to investigate. He dusted off his pants and began to slowly tip down the stairs. He didn't want to alert whatever was lurking in his place. He came into a clearing and saw the most peculiar sight.
There was a giant, or perhaps and ogre on the ground. Curious, Burai stood up straight and casually approached the giant. "Oy, are you a little big to be playing with dirt? Or, are you rolling around on the ground like a dog, if you want we can go outside and play fetch?" Burai wasn't certain if the man would like his joke. Though admittedly he did want to know what was so hilarious. He wanted to be a part of the joke.

» Piper whistled absentmindedly as she sat on the sidewalk. She had ripped her jacket earlier and was trying to fix it; she had had no talent for sewing in the real world, but here she seemed to have some natural, albeit minor, talent for it. She guessed that picking Tailor as her crafting class had something to do with it; she made a mental note to keep practicing and leveling up her skills. Most likely, with high enough levels she would be able to make her own equipment since Monks conveniently use cloth instead of armor.
The early morning sun warmed Piper's bare skin as she slowly worked on her jacket. The streets were quiet at the time; many of the people who were bustling earlier had already come to terms with what the players of Elder Tale were calling the catastrophe. Piper thought that the name was a bit of an exaggeration, but it did not surprise her that there were people who would not be as excited about what was happening as she was.
Piper's serenity was interrupted by the sound of uproarious laughter. She jumped slightly and pricked her finger on her needle; she sucked on it as she peered in the direction of the noise. What she saw was... well, interesting. It was a man, one of massive proportions in both height and muscle. Piper thought he was handsome, probably. She was never really interested enough in men to get a good idea of what makes a man attractive.
Before she could decide on a course of action another man, a Monk like her, approached the laughing guy and started speaking to him. Piper told herself that they probably knew each other based on the friendly and joking tone the second man had and that she should not interrupt their conversation; she went back to her sewing, keeping an ear open in case she was given a reason to get up.

A different sound demanded his attention. Slowly the giant man brought his hands across his face and with deliberate swipes, cleared his vision. He reached for something to steady him as he stood and found the spear he had chosen for a weapon. He had chosen? He had no memory of ever owning a weapon before, but something told him it was his. Once on stable feet he noticed that the person who was probably the source of the new sound was small. Or was he just large? He watched the new man. Was he a threat? The bigger man was used to others picking on him because he was short tall. This new person seemed confident in his ability too. Certainly more so than the giant was feeling. Come to think of it, hadn't he just been on the ground crying? It was probably just a concerned person. That was it, another person feigning concern for the 'cripple.' He flashed the sign of thanks, and then followed by asking a few questions. Where was he? How did he get here? And what is that horrible sound?! While he was signing away things appeared in front of him in midair. The first one was a picture of himself with boxes around him. One of those boxes had a spear in it. Above the picture it said 'Gaijin, Level 1.' And around the concerned citizen there was a small glow with a warning box that read 'Cannot attack target from here. Move closer.' What the hell?!

Guardian - Cavalier - Brewer ____________________________________________________
Saskia had juste returned from doing tedious paperwork and hosting a class in the small Vylbrand Academy classroom on the effects of the various debuffs that various monsters applied according to their type in the bestiary. She had spent countless hours trying to collect various data, information, and statistics about each enemy so that she can present it to the rest of the academy students so they can figure out the best way to tactically engage these enemies and groups during raids.
As she exited room 703, her heels tapped about the floor making a rather bold expression as they echoed down the stairway. She passed up half-alvs and the little dwarf that hobbled up the stairway as she made her way down. Her fluorescent pink hair was tied up in a bun, and she looked rather nerdy with her glasses on.
Unlike her customary armor, she was wearing a beautiful purple dress that had intricate weaved patterns blossoming from it’s silk. It was of a smooth and rich texture hand made by the tailor, Mitsuru, a craftsman in the academy.
He was a fearsome Heretic, but with needle and thread he held much finesse and Saskia applauded him for his work.
As she made her way downstairs. She traveled to the location of a group of people. However only two of them looked familiar.
Burai, the errant monk, and Piper, the bombastic babe.
They had been two of the newer players that she had helped train. It would be good to stop by and say hello and indulge in a bit of casual chatter.
“Piper! What’s up!!! I see you working on your crafts! Making some pretty nice threads or what? You know vanity outfits sell really well. If you wanted to make me something like that one day. I might pay you handsomely.” Saskia winked.
“And how is our errant monk doing, you little knuckle dragger?” Saskia chuckled. “Who are you picking on, this guy one of your friends?” Saskia inquired as she stepped forward.
“I hope the fall wasn’t that bad. Looked like you almost broke your neck back there.” Saskia chuckled. “Glad I kept my body proportionate to mine. Well, except for the wolf ears...I kind of miss my earrings. Anyways...name’s Saskia Steelheart. Pleasure to meet you.” She smiled as she extended a gentle hand to shake his.

i've never had to knock on wood Burai stared at The armored giant with a dull expression on his face. Burai was having such a wonderful day. All that was spoiled by this giant lying on the ground. He was a player, no less, which annoyed him further. He let out a long and saddening sob, follow by a sigh. His whining ceased, as he watched the large lummox stagger to his feet. Burai took a few steps back so, the oaf wouldn't step on him, with his large feet. "You have about, as much footing, as a new born calf. Though, I would have to say at least the calf is adorable, as it wobbles about. You, my friend are like a troll with horrible depth perception!"
He was amused with his own jokes, so much in fact, he had to wipe a tear from his eye. He began wondering if the orge had a great sense of humor. It was a little too late to be curious about that now, after all, he already began teasing the giant. The giant held out his hands and began to move them around oddly, 'signing'. Burai was confused by this, and took offense. "What are you doing giant? Are you tossing 'gang' signs at me?" This giant began to get on his last nerves. The brute could've just spoken to him, but no! He decided stumble around cluelessly. He really did resemble a newborn calf. It took a lot of gall to be this blatantly disrespectful! Burai had a bout of enough, and was about to give that of an ear full. Suddenly a familiar voice danced its way into his ears. The melody soothed his nerves and calmed him. It was Saskia, she had addressed someone else as 'Piper.' Burai turned his head about to see another woman sewing. Realizing he was in the presence of his Master. Burai had to reel in his annoyance.
"First this brute, then Saskia, and a woman named Piper who sows in an old building? You people are interesting, to say the least." He glared at Saskia, sheer annoyance and anger pulsated from his stare. . "Knuckle dragger, such a cruel name. Are you always this mean to your star pupils. Master, I'm heart broken. I thought we were getting on so well. ~" He spoke in a soft playful tone as he addressed Saskia. He didn't want her to be aware of his bitterness. He decided he would get his revenge through teasing her.
"This gentle giant is no friend of mine. And if he was, he would be my best friend. Wouldn't want to anger that beast! A beast he may be, I'm sure he is better company than you, master." Burai added her to his fun, he was going to tease her just as much as he teased the Giant. He glanced over to the woman She referred to as Piper. "Oy, Piper was it? You should join the party too. We're more fun than needles and thread."

» Piper's eyes lit up at Saskia's approach; it was good to see a familiar face amid the ruckus those two men were making.
"Good morning, Saskia! I'm actually just trying to repair the jacket I have. Had a bit of an accident involving a tree earlier today. Let's just say it was a good reminder that I am not, in fact, an Acrobat." Piper laughed merrily at her own misfortune; the incident would have been something Anna would have been anxious about for weeks, but Piper could accept it as a fun story for later. The fact that it was Saskia she was telling it to certainly helped matters.
Piper warmed up to the other Monk when she found out Saskia already knew him; despite his oddball behavior he could not be all bad if Saskia was so friendly with him. She stuck out her tongue at him and replied, "yeah, yeah, but this is the only jacket I have right now. I can't be going around town in nothing but a bra, that would just be obscene." Piper laughed at her own joke before finishing up her sewing and swinging the jacket back on. She stretched to make sure the seam was secure before joining the group and turning to speak to the man who had fallen from the sky.
Piper crouched down and got to eye-level with the prone fellow, saying "Hey there! Name's Piper, if you didn't hear before. That's sign language, right? I'm afraid I don't understand it myself, but I can tell you you won't be needing it anymore here. Welcome to Elder Tale."

Gaijin watched the three strangers interact with each other. They spoke to each other and seemed to be friends. They spoke to him in what seemed like the same terms. Trying to be friendly? Or were they just trying to get him to drop his guard. He wasn't entirely sure what was going on, it was a lot to take in. But if the three attacked, he would need to see them clearly. Wondering how to clear the annoying screens in front of him he moved to swipe them away. And they went away. With a satisfied smirk at his accomplishment Gaijin set his stance and grasped his spear. He may not be great with the weapon yet, but he would learn if he survived. For the moment he just had to make the three people think twice about attacking him. So, who would come at him first? The man seemed most likely, as he seemed both arrogant and easily offended. A typical bully. If a fight arose Gaijin would hit him hard and fast. But he seemed to defer to the larger woman. Maybe she was his boss? Or maybe even a lover? Either way the bully probably wouldn't act without her say so. Maybe if Gaijin beat her in a fight? No, the smaller girl also seemed to treat the larger as a boss. If Gaijin attacked, all three would defend.
Lastly he addressed the small woman. Where the man looked ready to fight and the larger woman looked confident in her ability, the smaller one just seemed out of place. She didn't have the slightest bit of fear of his larger size, and didn't even react to him as a potential enemy. Clearly she was the weakest of the three and served no threat at all. Gaijin dismissed her from his thoughts until she spoke at him. Had she recognized his signing? He flashed a few more at her in hopes she would react. He could hear now, and while that was certainly the greatest joy in his life, he had never imagined how problematic it would be. The sounds they spoke made no sense. How could he communicate that to them? It was like expecting a penguin to fly just because it had wings. Gaijin stroked an ear a few times until he was certain he had their attention. Taking a deep breath, the giant opened his mouth and spoke as loudly as he could. "BLARGPHLAWMERT!"

Guardian - Cavalier - Brewer ____________________________________________________
Saskia had examined the man that had been throwing up gestures at random. However, she could recall some of the hand motions from a karate teacher that she had met in high school. He often used the motions to teach the deaf students in his class. She also saw a fragment of the motions being used in commercials talking about ‘what success means to you’ on TV from one of the african american women on screen. That however, was about the extent of her knowledge.
She glanced down at the board and watched as he wrote the words about his name and his level.
“Gaijin...that’s japanese...it means ‘outsider’. It’s normally a term used in Japan to describe the other nationalities in their country. Hmm...maybe..he’s from Japan? Or near there?” Saskia thought aloud as she raised acurious figure and tucked it between her lips, staring curiously at the specimen.
She cut her eyes at the dark skinned fellow as he began to bully the other guardian. This made her frown as she was hoping he’d be a bit more....less of an asshole?
“Well aren’t you on your best behavior today?” Saskia quipped sarcastically with a smirk. “I guess they let the wolf out it’s cage again...”
Saskia then shifted her gaze to the guardian.
“And now you would prey on this ‘calf’ as you call him. How dreadful...you really are an evil man, aren’t you Burai?” Saskia shook her head.
“I’m really surprised you didn’t realize it sooner...” Saskia said referencing to his sign language. “This man uses sign language. Which probably means....”
Saskia began to inspect him curiously, when she heard Piper’s energetic tone.
“Oh, Good Morning Piper! I saw that you enrolled in Vylbrand Academy after all. Well, it’s an honor. I see you’re already out having fun. Good initiative on you too for patching yourself up. Maybe I can hook you up with a tutor. Mitsuru, our guild tailor made this dress I’m wearing. Maybe one day, you’ll make something awesome and everyone will coming running throwing their gold at you for your dresses.” Saskia cackled.
She shifted up her glasses as she watched the girl advance close to the giant guardian.
She could see that the giant became wary of their presence. Her eyes analyzed that he was sizing each of them up individually.
“Is he preparing to strike? Here, in the city of all places. The royal guard would take him away in no time. Plus...I’m quite certain this is a no PK zone. I’m afraid if he’s looking for a fight, he’ll have to take it outside.”
Saskia stated as she gazed at him from behind her eyeglasses.
“But we aren’t primitive animals, are we?” She asked rhetorically.
She watched as he pressed on his ear and began to tug at it.
“I’m quite certain he wants our attention. Well, Gaijin, what is it?”
She stared blankly waiting for a response, but after the man blurted out gibberish, she sighed.
“Yeah, I’m thinking he was deaf from birth. He didn’t suffer hearing loss over time. He never learned how to speak. Something like this would require remediation. I’m not even sure if any of the professors in the academy are proficient in sign language. Maybe some of the students.”
Saskia stroked her chin.
“Burai...you probably should apologize.” She said as she shifted up her glasses with her index finger. “It’d be some pretty bad karma headed your way for teasing the deaf...”

i've never had to knock on wood "Finally someone else who had a sense of humor. Piper, I'm Burai I hope you have a better sense of humor than Master, Sakia and this big lummox." Burai was more than pleased with piper. He eagerly wanted to see how far her humor would stretch, He wanted to rile her with a few bad jokes, and see if she enjoyed terrible puns. But he decided against it, at the last moment. Everyone was taking an odd interest with the orge. Burai was rather indifferent, He was curious at first, worried about the orge. That feeling faded, as he tried to talk to the man and received little to nothing in return. He was frustrated and annoyed. He thought he was being more than reasonable with man. The brute refused to speak, and then signed at him. The giant was a toddler, he had a mouth like, and was grown. He should have manners, or at least the common decency to be courteous.
The giant mocked him further by sprouting out nonsense. Before he could say anything Saskia hissed at him. Burai tilted his head toward Saskia, "Master, I am behaving. I haven't begun to spit my venom." Even though he was annoyed She managed to place a smirk on his face. Burai let out a brief sigh of defeat. "You wound me, I wouldn't try to sink my teeth in a defenseless, new born calf. There is no fun in that." Saskia then turned her attention to Piper. She mentioned something about an academy. Burai suddenly stop paying attention to her, and began to slyly stepped to his right. He had hoped to slither away while Saskia was talking to Piper, but she eventually came back and make a wonderful deduction stating that Gaijin being deaf, and she wanted Burai to apologize to the him.
Burai gave her a stern look. "You can't be serious, can you!?! If he was deaf, he wouldn't understand what we are talking about anyways. Besides, I'm not sorry about my jokes, I never laughed at him. I laughed at my jokes." walked to the side away from the group. "I have enough bad karma, as it is. Adding one more to my load. 'Won't kill me." His playful tone was replaced by a serious one. "Feeling sorry for him, won't change anything. I'm sure he received more than enough pity from people. I'm not going to hold his hand. He is a warrior, if he wanted to be coddled, I'm sure he wouldn't be here." There was a bitterness in his tone. He was adamant; Burai saw no wrong in his actions, he treated Gaijin, as he would anyone else, as a person. But, Burai did come to terms with Gaijin, being deaf. And everything that happened between them was just a failure to communicate. He let go of those feelings of annoyance. There was no need for him to harbor any ill will toward the man.

» "I'll have to take you up on that offer and find this Mitsuru sometime, then. I think I'm more of a fighter than a crafter, but it is definitely a useful skill to have and I would not mind some training." Piper looked over the outfit Saskia was wearing and saw that Mitsuru's skill spoke for itself; Saskia looked gorgeous in the dress, even more radiant than she usually did in her armor.
"Yep! I am now an official member of Vylbrand Academy." Piper grinned and gave Saskia a thumbs up. "I suppose now that it's official I should start calling you master, eh?" Piper was only half-joking.
Piper pondered Saskia's reference to the Royal Guard. "He might not know about them yet. He's a new player, after all." Piper jumped back at the big man's incoherent roar, more than a little surprised at the response given. She listened to Saskia's theory and nodded. "Yeah, that makes sense. Hmm... Well, even if he can't speak I would hope he can read and write." Piper pulled a pen and paper from her bag and began scribbling in messy but legible script: "Hello, I am Piper. Do not worry, we are all friends here and there is no fighting allowed in this area anyways. I hope we can get along!" Piper passed the note to the male Guardian and waited for a response.

CAN'T HOLD ME NOW YOU GOT NOTHING THAT CAN STOP ME NOW Nyumo wiped the sweat from her face with one of the long extensions of the scarf around her neck. She'd been out playing in the fields outside of the city and thought it was a good idea to head back in and see what Burai was up to. All she really had to go on was a marker on her map that she rechecked every so often to make sure she was still heading to where ever he had holed himself up for the day. Eventually coming upon the parliament building, she paused and looked up the length of the building in awe, she hadn't actually taken the time to explore too much of the city so this was a nice sight to see from her perspective. Checking her marker once more, she knew he was inside and should be on the same level as her, atleast as far as she could tell. Grinning to herself, she exhales sharply through her teeth while shoving open the doors to the building; quickly scanning the room she spots her prey.
Crouching over almost touching her hands to the floor, she breaks off in a sprint towards the hulking monk. As she draws near the ground, Nyumo plants her hands to the ground into a handspring into the air, colliding with the back of Burai's head with legs wrapped around his shoulders and chest. "Buuuuuu~ I found you~" Planting her forearms to the top of his head she leans her weight into them just for added measure of annoyance of her dear friend. Slowly her eyes draw up from her companion and look up to notice there's more than just Burai in the room, she'd been so focused on him that she completely missed them. Stifling an embarrassed chuckle, she sinks her head down into the scarf around her neck. "Oops." She mumbles out through the fabric hiding her face. Her eyes peruse over the others in the room to size up what she just got herself into. There was two other girls with burai, and what she could only imagine was a troll of some kind with how huge he was. Was that even a race, she doesn't remember seeing that in the character selections. Shaking the anxiety out of her head figuratively and literally, her hair flings around animatedly as she lets out a sigh of courage, bringing her head back out from behind her garment and gives a confident grin to the group. "Hey there~ Is this wall of muscle giving you girls a hard time?" She say playfully mooshing his cheeks together to give him have a silly expression at them, knowing full well he couldn't harass a fly. It was still her best defense to distract them from her rather abrupt outburst a moment ago. She was definitely not ready to deal with this many people so soon, but it was now or never since she got herself caught unwittingly.

Gaijin closed his mouth, hoping that his outburst had made some sort of sense to them. The three people certainly seemed to react to it. The pink haired woman immediately addressed the dark skinned man. Whatever it was she said clearly was not appreciated by the man. His voice rose, and his face became scary. Anger than. Was that directed at the woman, or at Gaijin himself? The blond giant was quick to believe the worst about people, so he assumed it was directed at him. However the slightly smaller man seemed almost satisfied. Not the satisfaction of finishing work, but the satisfaction one got when they were finally understood. Most people either looked down on people, or pretended to to care in order to get something. Gaijin had thought the dark skinned one was the former, but had to revise that idea when a tiny cat person zipped in and jumped on him. She, at least Gaijin thought it was a she, seemed to be a frightened child seeking a parent with the way she clung to him. Desperate for safety and affection, but playful the moment she had it. Like a cat really.
Out of the corner of his eye he saw the girl holding out a piece of paper to him. On it was clearly written words. He re-evaluated his opinion of the girl. She wasn't worthless, she was the intelligent one! That explained her apparent lack of concern at his size, or her fighting skills. She was confident in her bodyguards ability to protect her without problem! The pink haired woman must be the head of security while the dark man was new. Which made the cat a... pet? Something seemed off about that, but people were very deceiving. It was probably a trick of some kind to confuse him. Well, he could play along for a bit. Let them get their laughs while he learned all about them. After all, Gaijin was the larger one now, and he would not be bullied.
The giant leaned real close to the small VIP and plucked the pen from her tiny hand. He grinned in her face as he began to write on the piece of paper. "I am Gaijin. Nice to meet you. Where are we? Who are you all? How do you say your names?"

It seemed that the dark skinned monk was the original class clown of the group and also a bit of a troublemaker. Or maybe it was just possible that he was misunderstood? She was uncertain, but he was definitely headstrong and had his own spicy flare. Not to mention he was a bit of a brute on the field when it came to fighting.
“Ha, so it seems Doctor Dreadlocks here has taken a liking to you Piper. Aren’t you becoming quite popular!” Saskia chuckled. “You know..I’ve been watching you both actually and you both almost have a completely different style of fighting and skills. Sometimes, I wonder who’s fighting style is superior..” Saskia smirked as she folded her left arm over her stomache and placed the index finger of her right hand gently against the sight of her right temple as she looked between them inquisitively.
As she listened to Burai speak rather sarcastically and seemingly boasting about his storage of venom he can use to potentially bully others. He seemed to often wear a cocky grin when speaking to Saskia and it became apparent that he liked throwing his weight around. He seemed very certain of his abilities.
While Saskia went on to talk to Piper, he had snuck away to poke more fun at the poor lad. Then he retaliated at Saskia with a series of words that made her slightly annoyed, yet she waved these feeling off dismissively.
“Have it your way then. You’re entitled to feel how you want to feel about things.” She stated, not caring to further that conversation. Sometimes it was better to just nip things in the bud and agree to disagree.
She turned her head to face Piper, who had been speaking about various topics concerning the guild.
“Yeah, you’ll probably meet him in the classroom tomorrow. You can’t miss him. Red eyes, ash white hair. He’s a Heretic, but he isn’t too much trouble. He’s actually a pretty decent fighter in combat, Though...he does have a peculiar knack for getting wounded and pulling too much aggro...” Saskia muttered as she scratched the back of her head.
“You don’t have to call me master, I guess that’s just something Burai started though he’s not a member of Vylbrand. I have gone on some training sessions with him though and he is an avid student, though...he was quite honest when he proclaimed himself as the Errant Monk. He does like to stray from the path. But I suppose that has it’s perks as he is the type that can cut himself a new path all his own, with his fists.” Saskia smirked at him. It seemed as though despite their differences, she was giving him a slight bit of praise.
That’s when she noticed that a crazy wolf hair lady tackled Burai and hopped on his back. She screamed affecionately and it all seemed pretty weird, but she figured the woman was a long time friend of Burai. Saskia chuckled as she squeezed the monks cheeks together, making him seem a bit more soft and cuddly than before.
“Well, now that you mention it, he seems for like a cuddle bear with the way you’re pinching his cheeks like that. It’s pretty cool to see another wolf hair.” Saskia chuckled.
“My name is Saskia, Guild Headmistress for Vylbrand Academy of Tactics, Mystics, and Trade. We were just talking about this guy here...we came to an understanding that he’s deaf and we were trying to help him out. Well, me and Piper, anyway. ”
Saskia looked down and noticed the two of theme writing to each other. “That’s actually a pretty smart idea, Piper. Nice work! Girls got about as much brains as she does beauty!” Saskia smirked.

i've never had to knock on wood
Burai wasn't going to give in. He couldn't, someone could say it was because of his pride. But, they would only be partially right. It is far more than that. This was his morals, his character. He approached Gaijin, not as a person with a disability, or someone who was inferior. He treated him as an equal, or as close as he possibly could. He knew nothing about the man, and that created a canyon between them. He even tried to communicate with Gaijin, tried to connect with him through his humor. To build a proverbial bridge to one another. So, they would have some common ground and be able to relate to each other. But, all of his efforts were in vain. They only caused the rift between them widen. His mind relapsed to moments before. Saskia spoke about bad karma, if only she knew how right she was. Burai's life was full of nothing, but Bad Karma. Thoughts of his 'broken household ventured into his mind. The memories caused his heart to sink. It began to dance at a different tune. Burai could feel the emptiness steadily grasping him.
He felt that he already shared too much of his personal feelings, already. And he desperately tried to bottle them up. The sudden burst of melancholy that plagued his heart. And proved to be too much to bare. He let out a heavy sigh, and tried to clear his mind. But, the more he tried. The worse it became, and the more his thoughts circulated. Trying to ignore his feelings, he turned his attention to Piper. He eavesdropped into their conversation. When he heard her comment about calling Saskia 'Master.' His eyes darted straight to Saskia. "How many people did she manage? Did she have an eye for talent? And, what was this academy they spoke of" Burai was hoping he was her only student. Though if he was her only student, things would probably be boring. At least now he had something to strive for, to be the best student, and her favorite.
The sudden series of questions, thoughts, and curiosity. Sated his uneasy heart, and provided an adequate distraction. Burai's eyes skipped back over to Piper. He squinted his eyes and scrolled her frame up and down. He didn't find anything worth noting, other than her height. And her choice of attire. He was curious about her abilities.
He glanced over at Gaijin, and stared intensely at the giant. He looked at his long blond hair that seemed to flow down effortless down his back. He looked like some fabled, legendary hero. Burai chuckled, as he came to that conclusion. He heard Saskia sling some praise his way. It was quite nice. "Master, I must say I am speechless. It truly did mend this wounded heart. Make sure you keep both eyes on me. I wouldn't want you to miss a thing!" He said with a sly grin, his tone of voice was playful. Burai was easy to please, with her compliment. Their recent tussle was water under the bridge.
He turned around suddenly, and paused. The hair on the back of his neck was standing straight up! And there was a sense of pending doom lurking. "Oh...no, please, no!" Burai sent a quick prayer out to the heavens hoping they would spare him from the onslaught that was about to follow. A second later, something latched on to the back of his head, coiling itself around his shoulders. Burai turned back around to face the party. He ignored the fact, Nyumo just bombarded his head and had no regard for his personal space. She was the only person who was allowed to crowd him this way. Not that he had any say in the matter, she would've done without his consent. "Nyumo, please don't do that in front of people..." Burai unfolded his arms and placed his hands into his pockets.
As embarrassing, as it was Burai was thankful for her arrival, he leaned back into her stomach for a moment and nuzzled her, whispering "Thank you.." He didn't give her any context, and without another word he placed his head upright, and looked plainly towards the group.
"As you are aware, the one who-" Burai cut himself off, and sighed. He didn't approve of being a 'teddy bear.' "Ahem, the woman over there who called me a 'Cuddly bear?' She is my 'Sensei.' Saskia took me under her wing. The gentle giant is Gaijin, he is deaf in the real world. And last but not least, there is Piper. I think you two will get along."
After the introductions he focused on Saskia. He couldn't believe she was a Guildmaster, though she did look the part. Burai would rather have the other Saskia, the headstrong battle maiden. He felt connected more with her there in the swamp than he did here. Though this building did smell better, and didn't have any pesky goblins roaming around. But that was part of the swamp's charm.

» Piper read the note Gaijin had passed back to her and quickly scribbled a reply: "You are in Elder Tale, the game. No, I am not joking. Let me introduce you to your fellow adventurers." Piper pointed at herself and said her name; she continued the process with the others in the group. Just as she was about to get to Burai she saw a yellow streak approach him from the back; it leaped onto his shoulders and began squeezing him tightly. In a moment Piper recognized the streak as a wolf hair girl that seemed to be... excessively intimate with Burai. When the small girl squished Burai's cheeks together, Piper laughed and stuck her tongue out, saying "Aww, you two are adorable. Who knew the giant could be so gentle!"
Piper waved at the childish-looking wolf-hair girl, apparently named Nyumo, and formally introduced herself. "Hi! I'm Piper, it's good to meet you. Burai hasn't been giving us too much trouble, but he does seem to have settled down some with you as a backpack, haha."
Piper grinned at Saskia's compliment. Piper found herself laughing at Saskia's amusing description of Burai; "An 'Errant Monk', eh? Sounds about right from what little I have seen of him." Piper sized up Burai; he was definitely much scarier looking than her, with bulging muscles, but that was pretty meaningless in the world of Elder Tale, where your stats and your appearance are almost entirely independent of each other. Piper decided she would need to keep an eye of him; she could not have him stealing the spotlight and Saskia's attentions, after all.

CAN'T HOLD ME NOW YOU GOT NOTHING THAT CAN STOP ME NOW Nyumo beams playfully to the newly introduced gathering, finally letting Burai's face return to its typical stoicism. Clapping her hands to the top of Burai's head, she uses him as a vault and lands on the floor in front of him with arms outstretched. Dusting her pants off lightly, she brought herself up to a solid posture and thrust her fists to her hips, a confident toothy grin on her face. "It's definitely nice to know I'm not the only one who picked wolf hair. Though I'm curious, a guild headmistress? Isn't that just, a guild leader with a fancier wording?" Her head tilted to the side inquisitively, the guild name alone was a mouth full, what was the purpose of making such a convoluted title? Her attention is drawn to the towering guardian, her head tilted fully back just to try and meet his gaze. "Deaf?? But how will he listen to his favorite music?" Her tone would suggest her question was serious, the concept of not being able to hear anything completely foreign to her. Nyumo looks back to Burai and arches a brow curiously at him. "Sensei huh?" Her eyebrows dance up and down as she nudges her elbow into his leg. "Atleast she's cute, I approve for now." She says confidently, her light hearted expression alters into a dead pan stare in Saskia's direction. She uses her forefinger and pinky to point at her own eyes then turns them at Saskia, even though they weren't more than friends, it wasn't going to be easy for her to see him hanging around other girls while they're playing together.
Her attention finally falls over onto Piper, another monk in the room; she was feeling like the odd man out right now with all of these tanks hanging out together. She liked the coat she was wearing, though it left about as little to the imagination as her own apparel, though she was filling out the top better than herself. "My name's Nyumo, but you can call me whatever you like.~" She chides playfully for the moment with a faint hue of red to her cheeks, a hand stretched out to Piper for a handshake.
Nyumo pauses for a moment before leaning back at her hips, folding her arms to her mid drift to stare up at her tall companion. "As for you, It sounds like you're being a butt again, what'd you do this time?" The tone in her voice as demanding as possible, it was not easy being intimidating at her stature compared to his. Though it really wasn't anything new to her, he always was ridiculously tall compared to her, atleast now in Elder Tales she has more than just a commanding presence to assert herself around him.

The shock that he was actually a character in a video game was harsh. However Piper seemed serious, and when Gaijin thought about it, the explanation seemed to make sense. He had already noticed many strange things that seemed impossible in real life, but would be perfectly natural in a video game. After all wasn’t there a famous saying by an old police officer about how something silly must be the truth because everything else was impossible? He was Gaijin now, not that frightened little child he had been before. He shook his head and watched long silken locks of gold flow across his vision before draping themselves down his chest. Next he flexed his arms, pectorals, legs, and buttock. Tall, muscular, handsome, Gaijin likened himself to Adonis. And now that he could hear, there would be nothing that could stop him once he acclimated to this new body. As Piper spoke the names of each person, Gaijin attempted to repeat them. None of them matched the way the woman had said them, but it was nothing more than a mild concern to him. It would be a slow process learning to speak, but determination and effort were his allies. He noticed that as he paid attention to a particular person, their name displayed above their head. Which made the two who hadn’t been introduced Burai, and Nyumo. He didn’t know how to say their names, but it didn’t matter anymore. He noticed a few similarities between Saskia and Nyumo, and with a start realized that they were both the same species. Though they probably weren’t related. Given how Nyumo hung on Burai, and his apparent acceptance of it, he thought they may actually be lovers. In fact he was probably wrong about many of his earlier evaluations. It was a light revealing the truth to him. While the giant didn’t have to like or trust other people very much he would be no better than the people who used to pick on him if he judged them all for a single thing. He turned to Burai and smiled broadly, than bowed to him while signing ‘thanks.’ Gaijin was still wary that the dark skinned man was making fun of him, but he could bend his head on the chance that there wasn’t ill will. He was starting to communicate, and it was all thanks to Piper. Suddenly he realized that he liked her. Until now the only people he could truly count on was family, but she seemed genuinely eager to help. She reminded him a lot of his sister. Since he was now a new man, he needed a new family. She has short black hair to my long blond. Well, not everyone in a family looked the same. He then studied her outfit. Particularly her breasts. At first he was pleased to have such a good view from the top, but quickly changed his mind. His little sister wearing something so scandalous? Now that he had power there was no way Gaijin would allow it. Looking back up to her eyes though, he changed his mind. He accepted her clothing because he accepted her as family. If he was strong, there was no way his sister would be weak, despite his earlier impressions. Besides, looking at the rest of them, her dress seems to be the norm. Deciding to follow his sister’s example Gaijin pulled off his own armor. He wanted to express his gratitude and love for his new sister in the only way he knew how. ”Biber.” He threw his arms wide and tried to embrace her. Word count 602 BuraiSaskiaPiperNyumo

Guardian - Cavalier - Brewer ____________________________________________________
It seemed to Saskia that perhaps one of the great barriers in Burai’s life was his ability to connect with people. She noticed that he always had a certain attitude that he applied to life. She could see that on the exterior he would hide behind a mask of cocky jokes and a sense of pride, but she often began to reflect on how he mentioned knowing the chills of suffering all too well back in the forest where they trained together against the goblin hordes. And now today, he was acting rather arrogant and speaking about how his life was all about bad karma.
She could sense a certain darkness in his heart. A silent resentment that he held for certain things. Whoever he was in the real world definitely wasn’t a priviledged man. She perceived a life of hardship, struggles, and strife as she stared at him behind those clear glass frames that adorned her face. He seemed to have built up a few walls which were no doubt defense mechanisms of his, the wolf hair thought. Still, he had a few people close to him. Such as Nyumo, who rested on his shoulders.
As Saskia inspected Gaijin she listened to Burai’s remarks. His tone was playful as it often was. He seemed to have a desire to be a light of the show. Perhaps in the real world he was nothing but a shadow. It was funny how embracing a second life gave you a different slate to paint on a canvas a life you wanted.
Such would be the same for the gentle Piper, who held a heart of gold as she previously felt a way to begin to conquer her introversion as they battled together on the shores with seagulls and sahagins. Saskia felt that the woman had grown far more cheerful and energetic during their time together. Her presence was a blessing to all as the woman in pink interacted with everyone in a pleasant and well mannered way.
Saskia smirked at the mention of being called sensei. She knew it was a Japanese term for a teacher or mentor of sorts. What stood out however was his gentle tone of speech around the girl. He seemed to be a bit more well mannered than before.
Saskia begins to desire to learn a bit more about the playfully beaming girl on his head. She seemed to be like a more animated version of piper and her appearance seemed to be more wolf than man as she spoke to Saskia.
“Yeah, well since it is an Academy the name just kind of gives it a bit more of that vibe. Like how a dean is at a university. Though it’s not exactly not boring college stuff. Sure we like to learn about this work, but it’s also about magic like Hogwarts for example, I guess. Mixed with a little bit of a military academy where fighters can hone there skills. We also get a lot of contracts from Londiminium, Sarum, and even Avon to go do ranked missions around the city. Every once in a while we’ll dispatch some troops to a scene or go on an expedition.” She explained. “Like we got a squad consisting of a Samurai, a Guardian, a Sorceror, and a Druid scouting out this haunted manor. There’s been talks of necromancy going on in there, so I sent a team to go investigate.”
Saskia then scoffed at Nyumo’s gesture as she smiled.
“Whereas Burai’s avatar is no doubt a handsome man, I assure you, Nyu, you won’t have to worry about me. I’m already taken.” Saskia chuckled.
“Piper, how’s your training coming along? Maybe one of these days we’ll get to chuck you into a house of horrors or the graveyard of ships during a mission. And speaking of missions. You should speak with Parasole. I believe there’s a mission out in the snow realms that’s in your level range. “ Saskia smiled looking at her exposed attire. “Though you might want to wear something a little warmer when you get out there. “
Saskia then raised a curious brow at the guardian that seemed to warm up to Piper quite nicely. She retrieved a pen of her own and began to write a message for the gentleman on a pad. It read:
“Hi, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Gaijin. Welcome to the world of Elder Tale. Do you need help learning how to use your skills? We’re all friends here and are definitely willing to help!”

i've never had to knock on wood Burai turned his gaze over to Piper. He wouldn't allow another student of his master to surpass him. Her being a monk, only added to the bitterness. Whether Piper knew it or not, Burai saw her as his rival. He would be the number one student. "I'll have to keep an eye on her, and double my efforts in my training. I won't lose!" His imagination took flight. Images of him posing triumphantly with Piper sobbing uncontrollably on the ground. Saskia was standing in the background admiring Burai, for being her favorite student!
His fantasy was disrupted by Nyumo vaulting off of him. His gaze shifted from Piper to Nyumo. "Why must she do these things!?" Burai didn't know if she just made things up as she went, or did she plan them ahead of time. He didn't pay much attention to the conversion, but when Nyumo turned around and wiggled her eyebrows, his heart stopped. A look of horror came over his face! She nudged his leg, and made a comment, about Saskia being pretty. He looked at Saskia. "I thought she was ok, too."
Burai began thinking about how he was going to escape, again. Nyumo interrupted his daring plan before. He began looking at the entrance. He didn't want to be bogged down with Gaijin. "Too much like work." He muttered, maybe later he could teach Gaijin the ropes. After all this stuff was taken care of. Despite all of that Gaijin seemed to be handling everything well. This placed a smile, on his face. Like Nyumo mentioned earlier, He had no idea how it would feel to live a life without sound. "It would be very quiet, Gaijin probably gets some of the best naps ever." Burai tried to find a silver lining about being deaf, and he spun it around one of his favorite leisure activities, napping.
Nyumo, addressed him 'demanding, adorably for an explanation about what he did. Burai lifted his hand slightly. He played along with her adorably threatening presence. "Nyumo, no need to bring out the big guns. Textbook...I mean Saskia, and I didn't see eye to eye about my jokes toward Gaijin. She wanted me to apologize. I stubbornly refused." He glanced over at Gaijin, The casually got up and bowed towards him. Burai felt all of his stubbornness drained at that very moment. He blushed, and folded his arms. Nodding at Gaijin. Words didn't need to be spoken, he understood the gesture.
He raised a brow, at what the man did next, He decided to strip, and reach out for Piper. "Warm Embrace!" Burai has never seen such boldness. It seemed as if Gaijin was feeling overwhelmed by the friendly atmosphere. He was curious, how piper would respond. Burai walked in front of Nyumo, and crouched down. He gave her a serious monotone stare, and motioned for her to get closer. He began talking in a deadpan manner. "Oy mo-mo chan~ Do you think Saskia, is a harlot? Being taken, and with such good looking students, no telling how may be more she has? I can't let my innocence be tainted. Maybe I should abandon her, and find me a new mentor that isn't so lecherous? What do you think." An eerie aura radiated from Burai, as he whispered loudly to Nyumo. This was a moment where he needed genuine advice, and the only one, whom he trusted to obtain such wisdom was Nyumo. It was very obvious who and what he was talking about. Even though everything he said was in earshot of everyone else. Nyumo, was the only one who he was concerned with. He waited patiently to hear her wisdom.
