familiar with unfamiliarity Dusky had no idea where he was going or what path he should take. In hindsight, this was a hastily conceived plan to seperate himself from the growing conglomeration, but he had forgotten to include a crucial element into these designs: what to do next. The tapping of his staff against the cobble pavement acted as a metronome as he walked aimlessly down the street. The sun was high in the sky, maybe a little after noon judging from its placement. Uuuuugh, why isn't there a clock here...No sooner had the thought formed in his mind, he remembered something: if this was really the game, and it truly used a 1:2 landscape model for the game's terrain, then this place would have a Big Ben in here somewhere. Then again, since the terrain's distance was half in size compared to the real world, it might turn out to be a Medium Ben. Glad that he finally figured out what he wanted to do, he began to quicken his pace. That is, until he heard his character's username being called above the din of the people's loud conversations. The auburn-headed monk from before ran up as Dusky stopped walking until the other adventurer had caught up to him. After he had introduced himself as Hirosame, Dusky gave him a polite nod of acknowledgement. "Nice to meet you. My name is--oh wait, that's right. I already introduced myself." He tapped his forehead lightly with his staff, as if he was trying to hammer in the knowledge that seemed to have escaped his mind. His ears twitched lightly as he heard Hirosame's (actually, we'll keep this simple and call him Hiro from here on out) questions. "Haven't got a clue," was his answer to the monk's first question. To the second, he took a minute to figure out the words he wanted to say to explain his logic. Instead, he decided to forgo that and ask a question of his own."As for the game world, I have a theory about that, but I need to find a familiar landmark. Even though I know absolutely nothing about this city." He straightened up and looked around to see if he could spot the familiar shape of that famous clock tower. Nothing. "Care to come with? Having two pairs of eyes looking for Big Ben will make things a little easier. Plus, you never know what kind of terrifying monsters you'll find here in the city, so traveling as a group might be beneficial for the both of us." he said, over-exaggerating the 'terrifying monsters' bit as he pointed a furry digit back at the two female players that had caused quite the scene moments ago.Whether this new acquaintence of his would accept his request or not, Dusky continued onwards down the path. Buildings, I think it was somewhere around big buildings, he thought as he tried to remember the surroundings he'd seen in pictures of that blasted clock.

As the monk had caught up with the furred-Enchanter named @dusk, Hiro was greeted, and then an answer was very quickly formed to his first question. It served to reason that he Enchanter would have no idea what was going on, as much as he did, so asking about that further would likely be a bad idea, as it would only garner them more questions about where in the actual heck they were now. This place definitely did have some sort of an old-timey decrepit look to it, one that reminded Hiro of pictures he'd seen when doing a project on Scottish history, namely Edinburgh Castle. What surprised him the most was how accurately decrepit it all was. Specifically, the walls having vines and the ground having cracks made it seem like life had been completely devoid in this area for a long time. Either that, or there had been so little human activity that nature began to take back over where man had once traveled. While it was eerie in a way, it was actually kind of spectacular. Nature reclaiming what was once its own. Maybe this is the game designer's way of telling of divine retribution.
Poetic, in its own right, the fall of man, and how Nature can easily take right back over. Perhaps, if they were actually stuck inside a video game, the game company that had made this game were trying to see how the Neets of the modern day would end up if they were the ones who survived to what one could consider the end-days, after most of humanity was gone. Looking around a little bit more, Hiro took in all the sights, and the air around him. People just now walking around, dazed and confused expressions flutter on their faces, have yet to fully grasp what it is that they are witnessing. The dream of any nerd has come alive for them, but they are reluctant to believe in such things. A solemn gloom drifted over his face for just a few moments, as he let the gravity sink in a little bit. If they were, indeed, trapped inside the game, then their livelihoods had just been shifted entirely. The plans they had for later on in this day had been erased, as well as the dinners or events that they may have with friends and family have been canceled. Without much family interaction on his own part, he only had his friends to look forward to. Still, a powerful thing to be forced to give up.
Hiro snapped back to reality as Dusky had asked him a question. Hiro was being asked to accompany the feline-Enchanter on a mission to locate Big Ben in this area. Perhaps this would also serve as a basis for the answer to his own question: Are they actually stuck in a game? "Yeah, that sounds alright." Hiro responded to the accompaniment request. Dusky was right: It would serve better to have two pairs of eyes instead of just the one, in either regard. "I think I remember where Big Ben is, since I live nearby in the real world. I can't say that things will be exactly the same, comparatively, but I know my way around town." Hiro began to take the lead, since this area looked actually a little familiar. "If I remember correctly, there's a small cafe around here. From there, we should be able to see a plaza of sorts, and Big Ben should be visible from there." Just as he had finished saying this, he walked ahead a little bit, to find the cafe sitting right where he thought it would be. However, it was also in a state of disrepair. Seeing the sight made him feel a bit woozy, looking at something he had just visited a few days ago that was completely fine, and now seeing that it was in a poor state of being. "Mind if we stop inside?" Hiro asked, pointing over to the cafe.
Without waiting for an answer, Hiro walked up to the door, and looked inside. There appeared to be a few people in there already, but none of them looked to be Adventurers like himself or Dusky. He guessed that it was a bunch of People of the Land. Despite that, it looked like there was someone working at the counter, so Hiro walked inside. A welcome was heard from the owner, a middle-aged man. Hiro's eyes widened a bit, as all the pictures and such that were inside the building were all very old looking. Strangely enough, the place looked just fine on the inside, despite the lack of electronics within it now. Still, it felt a bit soothing to be somewhere moderately the same. Hiro walked over to a nearby table and sat down. He just wanted a cup of water or something, just to help calm himself down. Hopefully, Dusky wouldn't mind a slight detour. As painful a pun it is, Hiro needed to get his head in the game, if he's going look for the answers they both want.

[attr="class","cscroll"] my eyes can see the death of everything even if that thing is god All of the nearby people started talking and the nearby area started feeling rather crowded to Elfriede.
Too many people!
Elfriede instinctively activated Hide Walk again, retreating to behind the crate. Then she saw a box. Suddenly, Elfriede had the irresitible urge to enter the box; no, it was more than just an urge, it was her destiny to be in the box! Once inside the box, Elfriede had a feeling of inner peace. She felt safe—like this was where she was meant to be—like she had found the key to true happiness! The box was made from a material similar to cardboard. Maybe it was cardboard? Did cardboard exist in this reality? There are rusted down cars so maybe cardboard does exist. Either way, Elfriede felt that she could forget about the crowd outside and focus on the issue at hand, like answering what happened to everyone.
First off, this cannot be virtual reality. Even if they were to ignore the fact that they were likely not wearing any sort of VR input gear and were likely just using a standard keyboard and mouse with a standard monitor, the processing power necessary to build such a detailed world is beyond any modern computer. All of their senses were perfectly replicated, and all of the materials looked perfectly life-like. If they were to grab some of the moss off a rock, they could not be able to tell any difference from moss from the real world, or rather their reality. Even if such a computer did exist, the average personal desktop could in no way provide that power; not even Elfriede’s own computer, which she spent a small fortune on, could provide the necessary power for this level of detail.
Next is the issue of the game, if this can even still be called a game. It would likely be safer to call this a new reality. However, there was still the question of the game rules and the laws of physics. How did they mix? Is there a certain pattern? It was evident that some of the game rules do apply such as stats and skills, both of which Elfriede already tried and tested just recently, but how much of it applied? Would they still respawn if they died? Was there any other penalty other than the standard experience penalty?
However, none of this led to any clues to returning to their home reality, if it was even possible. Though if it was possible to come here from their home reality then the opposite should be true, if only in theory. However, the log out button does not work so there was obviously some hiccups. The best they can hope for at the moment is adapt and survive in this world, or rather that is the first thing they should do. If there was a way home, it would likely take a while, so establishing a way of surviving is necessary. In a way, it was like being stranded on an island, only they essentially had the bodies of demigods.
Then there was the question of the People of the Land. How are they reacting to this? If this is a new reality, wouldn’t that make them full flesh humans now? And how dependent are we adventurers are on the People of the land? When this was a game, the People of the Land handled a number of necessary services, such as the bank. Also there are more landers than from when Elfriede played Elder Tale. Was this part of the change or was it something recently added to Elder Tale… like say the Novasphere Pioneers expansion? Speaking of which, with the expansion how much of the game has changed? This is even a new server so old info that any of them may have may no longer apply. Writing all of the info down in her notepad, Elfriede quickly organized and placed the information on the crate before returning to her box.

Upon directing her question to the woman who had kissed her, said woman suddenly disappeared before Samantha's eyes. She looks back and forth over the area for some clue as to where she may have gone. "Did any of you just-" She starts off saying when something else peculiar catches her eye. A girl approaches, writing in the air. Wow, that's really neat! She seems to have the same question I do. I wonder if she is in the same predicament I am, or if there are actually girls who play this game on purpose. Realizing that the odd-looking man had already begun answering her question, she snapped out of her haze and looked at him, carefully listening to his answer. "Our log out commands are gone" He starts by saying. So, the conventional way of leaving is out of the question, surely there is another- "This may not be the game as we knew it." He continues. I suspected as much. Samantha wanted to interrupt him, wanted to blurt something out about her thoughts and opinions. Her first inclination was always speak first, listen later, but she realized this was not her wheel house and that she would be in the best position if she simply let him speak. "We have no means of exit as of yet." He concludes. For a brief moment, Samantha's heart sinks in her chest. Any lower, and she would begin digesting it. I need to be there to answer that email! She thinks. And what am I going to about work? And I was supposed to call my mom later. Holy spit, I have so much to do...... Suddenly, her panic comes to a screeching halt. No, actually, now I don't. She smiled. I don't have to do anything! I don't know what is going on, but I've just been transported to a completely uncharted land without even the slightest responsibility to weight me down! This is great. Samantha could barely contain her excitement any longer. A giant talking cat was the next to abruptly introduce himself to the group, leaving within moments of arriving, drawing away her initial target of conversion with him. Cat people? Drawing in the air? This place has s much to discover! Samantha's big smile faded when she looked back at the girl who could write in the air. Before she could ask her what was wrong, this girl, whose name Samantha incorrectly read to say "Kandice", begin writing again. She seemed to want to travel together, and this suited Samantha just fine. "I don't know what a guild is," Samantha replies. "But I'd be happy to travel with you-all of you." She adds the last part, looking at the others. "I guess I should introduce myself, too. I'm Samantha." Her new name slid off her tongue easily, almost as if it really was hers. "I don't know my sign, but I was born in October and I've never played a video game before in my life, but whatever this is-" She waves her hands at their surroundings. "This looks like a lot of fun." She smiles and looks back at 'Kandice', hoping to reassure her. "Though, if you could clear up this whole 'monster' thing, I would appreciate it. Like, the boogieman?"
Wordz:545 Notes:I really ned to figure out how to do those fancy box things. Also, I'd tag people, but I'm not sure who is near me anymore.

"I don't know what a guild is," noted the blonde-haired druid who'd been conversing with the assassin- where did she go? "But I'd be happy to travel with you-all of you. I guess I should introduce myself, too. I'm Samantha." The way she said the name made Kadence a little envious, like it was her real name... was it? It wasn't unheard of for newer players to use their real names for their characters. The girl was a talker too. "I don't know my sign, but I was born in October and I've never played a video game before in my life, but whatever this is-" she gestured to everything "-this looks like a lot of fun." Samantha smiled at her, with a very reassuring grin. "Though, if you could clear up this whole 'monster' thing, I would appreciate it. Like, the boogieman?" Kadence bit her lip shook her head, trying to decide the best way to word it before [Transcribing] her explanation into the air. When Elder Tales was a game, the players would wander around fighting monsters to gain experience and gold. They ranged from things like slimes and goblins to dragons and titans. Thinking about their current situation was a bit terrifying, and her next sentence came out a bit wobblier, though still legible. If this world is just like the game world, then logically, the monsters here are real too, and could really attack us.The bard admired how comfortable the other girl seemed to be. When everything was just a game, Everett had loved seeing the world, fighting monsters with other players and exploring just how far the world reached, but in this new body, and the world no longer on the other side of a computer monitor, Kadence felt frightened at the idea of getting into combat with the hell-spawn creatures, and even moreso because she didn't know if she'd respawn in the cathedral. Realizing she'd left out information on the guilds, she blushed and hastily added Guilds are groups of players who work together to achieve a common goal. Most guilds do a little of everything, but I've seen guilds who specialized in everything from crafting to combat.Word Count: 365 (One for every day of a non-leap year!) She looks so scared. Thought Samantha, reading this girl's explanation as it was written in front of her. I should leave her here. She wont want to do anything fun. No, I can't do that. I think I'm starting to get caught up too much in the idea that this is a game. If there are really monsters out there, she'll die for sure. I mean, not that I've ever had to fight a monster, or anything for that matter, but I have these two spears, at least. I wonder if she has any weapons. Once it seemed like Kadence had finished writing, Samantha spoke up again. "Well, if we are working together, it sounds like we already are a guild. So, where exactly are these monsters?" Samantha thinks about the implications of being attacked by monsters like the ones this girl had listed. She looks over her shoulder to make sure no monsters are in the immediate area, then quickly looks back, not wanting to miss the written explanation. Slimes? That doesn't sound too dangerous.... In fact, how could slime even be a threat? Maybe she spelled it wrong. Goblins? Well, I don't even know what those could possibly be. Dragons, I can see why she may be terrified. And titans, too. I don't remember a whole lot of mythology, but I'm sure they are big. "And, while you are answering questions, do you think you could tell me a little more about those monsters? I don't think I am familiar with those things you listed. I mean, I know what dragons are, and the word 'titan' is pretty clear, but that's all I know on the subject. Also," she adds, nearly cutting off her last sentence, "if this used to be a regular video game, how did you keep the monsters from killing you before?"
Wordz:307 Notes:If Samantha's FC were present, she would have a different reaction to Kadence's words.

"Well, if we are working together, it sounds like we already are a guild." The druid pointed out. If this had been an anime, Kadence would have sweatdropped. It doesn't work quite like that...Samantha didn't skip a beat. "So, where exactly are these monsters?" Kadence almost jumped in surprise. She wants to fight those things?! A little wary, she scrawled out If this is still like the game world, there should be some weaker monsters just outside of town somewhere. While she was writing, the druid continued to talk "And, while you are answering questions, do you think you could tell me a little more about those monsters? I don't think I am familiar with those things you listed. I mean, I know what dragons are, and the word 'titan' is pretty clear, but that's all I know on the subject." Kadence took a moment to think about this. She'd never paid much attention to the game's lore, so she wasn't sure what the game said about them... she wrote this out and added ...but the basics of it is that they tend to be evil creatures who attack travelers. I think adventurers are sort of like exterminators in that regard because we beat them off to protect ourselves and the town."Also," Samantha added, nearly cutting off her last sentence, "if this used to be a regular video game, how did you keep the monsters from killing you before?" Kadence blinked. She hadn't thought about it before. We fought them, I guess she scribbled out the second part, trying to sound a little more confident than she actually was. As beginners, we should have some basic equipment we can use. She stopped the [Transcription] for a moment before shuffling through her inventory, finding her equipment screen and pressing the button, causing a large two-handed spear to appear in her hand. The bard was pleased to have a weapon, but that pleasure turned to dismay as she realized her body was having trouble lifting the spear, despite its low quality. Quickly shuffling through her inventory, Kadence found the item she had been looking for and swapped it to her equipped weapon. With a sigh of relief, the spear vanished and was replaced by a lute. Moving one hand over the strings made a pleasant (though slightly off-key) noise. Not really as dangerous-looking as the spear, but this feels much better she noted. Kadence twisted the third knob slightly counterclockwise, then strummed again, this time in-key. I'm a little worried about fighting monsters... but I suppose it's the best way to figure out how skills work in this world.Word Count: 439 Tags: Kaos Samantha Lemongrass

Kaos watched as the silent girl that fell from the sky disappeared and scurried away, making him even more curious about the feeling he had of being watched. Being in town, there wouldn't be an enemy so Evaluate might not work... He sighed and readjusted his glasses to hide his casting of Evaluate He saw nothing new after using his skill, the feeling however was till there. It made him uneasy, as if he were being evaluated during a medical procedure at the hospital in the, now, old world. I hate this feeling but it won't go away...He continued to listen to Samantha Lemongrass's very verbal responces to Kadence's floating writing, waiting for his moment to interject. "You know, the monsters around here are fairly low in level and can be easily defeated. I awoke out by the gate and ended up in a couple battles myself. We should be fine if we stick together." He waved his hand to open his menu and opens the party interface and sends both Kadence and Samantha Lemongrass an invitation. "This will help in several ways, Samantha. Do you mind if I can you Sam to save time?" Without waiting for her answer he readjusts his glasses and continues. "You see Sam, this will allow us to communicate telepathically as well as vocally thus allowing us to plan in secret, it will also allow our mute friend, Kadence was it? To communicate with us in a more timely manner by, if this is still like the game, projecting her words in our minds. Or even her thoughts if she is comfortable with that." He readjusted his armor and smiled softly at the two girls, his smile was the forced one he had practiced many times over with his patients at the hospital. He was not proud of how he could smile, no matter the misfortune someone else faced but it was a skill that came in handy. "Sam, I believe you said this was your first time playing so I will give you a quick overview of the party system. A party is a group of up to six adventurers, or people like us, that can gain experience, gold, and travel together. In this world: Gold is money and experience is how we gain levels, which lead to us gaining more skills. In my case, as a summoner, I gain the ability to summon more creatures to aid me and my party as well as learn new ways to make those creatures more powerful. The bard class, can learn new skills that improve the parties abilities among other things. The druid is a healer class, if memory serves and can also add beneficial statuses to the party as well as invoke the spirits of nature... again that is if memory serves. This means that if we travel together we can all provide assistance to each other, communicate better, and even see the health and status of each party member as long as we are in a party. Once disbanded, however, we lose that ability unless we add each other to our 'Friends List' which will only allow us to communicate over long distances. Did I miss anything or do either of you have questions?" He breathed deeply, trying to maintain his calm exterior as his mind raced through the multitude of questions that could be asked and his lack of answers for them. I'm alone in this for now and the best thing I can do is help others through this cataclysm as best I can

“Hold it” I call out trying to grasp their quick reaction to my response and the already continued conversation. Continuing I say “while we may want to have each other in our friends list” sending all three of them requests “we may want to go look around first and we need time to explain everything we know to Samantha and establish some sort of better communication with kadence, specifically sign language. Until she is able to speak since it would only make sense she can even if she can’t in the real world and it would be advantageous to join up with the monk and enchanter” waiting for the three’s response I look around for the monk and enchanter and see them walking into a cafe of sorts. [attr="class","cscroll"] my eyes can see the death of everything even if that thing is god 'We really didn't,' Elfriede responded in writing, popping out of her box only to leave a slip of paper on a nearby crate. 'Our bodies do know the basics of combat with any weapon we have proficiency in as described in our class descriptions. Also, even at level one, our bodies are likely a decent bit stronger than the average person in our original reality (can't really say real world since this world is very much real now as well). We also can become stronger by leveling up through questing and killing monsters.'
Still, the issue now is: What if we die?
'However, we also don't know how death is handled at the moment. When Elder Tale was a game, we would simply respawn and suffer an experience point penalty when we died. Another option was to have a party member resurrect you, although the experience point penalty would still apply. However, with the game now a reality, we can't be sure what will happen. We also don't know how the Natural Laws or the Laws of Physics apply to this world. When this was a game, I could not attempt to free run through a town; most of the buildings where just background objects. However, I can now visit those background buildings and do things that were not possible before when Elder Tale was just a game. So it is safe to say that things such as the Laws of Physics do apply, at least partially, and it is obvious that the game rules still partially apply as we can use skills and our stats apparently affect our physical ability. The issue lies in how we do not know which ones apply and how they are applied. For all we know, they could be haphazardly mashed together with the game's rules. Thus it is possible that if we die, we would not respawn and thus die permanently if we are killed; of course the opposite could also true and we could respawn if we are killed, thus essentially making us immortal demigods. The easiest way to test this would to simply have someone die, but that is obviously very dangerous for us to do ourselves. The safest way, for us personally anyway, would to simply wait until someone gets cocky and or make a mistake and get themselves killed; in other words, wait for someone to do something like a Leeroy Jenkins and if they respawn then we are immortal demigods, if not, then we are probably horribly screwed in more ways than one.'
Placing the note on the crate for others to read, Elfriede heard Kaos talk about Telepathy. Unfortunately, Telepathy isn't true telepathy and is more like a cellphone that only has speed dial.
'Telepathy doesn't let you project your thoughts into audio. If the game rules are being mashed together, it will still act like how it was when Elder Tale was a game, meaning it is really just an invisible cellphone that allows for voice chat so it will require the ability to vocally communicate. Thus, us mute people are still screwed in that regard because while our vocal cords were repaired upon obtaining these bodies, we don't have the experience using them to effectively talk.'
Placing the second note on the crate, Elfriede retreated back into her box.

Just outside of town, huh? Samantha thought after reading Kadence's writing. Kadence had been writing since Samantha started to speak, trying to keep up with the barrage of questions Samantha was lobbing at the poor girl. So, I guess we are safe inside town. I wonder why she is so freaked out. Samantha looks over the rest of her writing for anything useful. After reading Kadence's suggestion that they should try fighting monsters, Samantha was about to ask why they need to fight them at all when Kaos suddenly stepped in and begun speaking. He started explaining that the monsters are low in level and can be easily defeated. Low in level? She didn't know what that could have meant, but it must have been a good thing. She'd let him finish talking before she asked. "We should be fine if we stick together." Kaos added. He finally stopped talking and started moving his hands in the air in front of him, making some strange box pop out of nowhere. "I agree." Samantha said. "That is what I've been saying." Oh, that came out way meaner than I meant it! Samantha thinks, regretting her tone. Before she can clear it up, he starts talking again. "This will help in several ways, Samantha. Do you mind if I call you Sam to save time?" She opens her mouth to reply, but he keeps on speaking. Oh, good, he didn't notice what I said or how I said it. Dodged a bullet there. Suddenly, Sam notices a box, not unlike the ones hovering over people's heads, appear before her. "Party invite" it said, with two large, easy to see buttons: 'Accept' and 'Deny'. A party? Obviously I'll accept an invitation to a party. She thinks, Kaos' words going unnoticed by her. But, it doesn't say where it will be or anything. She examines the box, touching various parts of it, but being careful not to touch the 'deny' button. Finally, she hits the 'accept' button, and the box confirms her selection before disappearing. Crabs! Where did it go? "Once disbanded, however, we lose that ability unless we add each other to our friends list which will only allow us to communicate over long distances. Did I miss anything or do either of you have any questions?" Kaos says in conclusion. Before she can ask her questions, Kaos' friend, someone Sam can see is named 'Tzuf23', says "Hold it" and begins talking about sign language, friend lists, and monks. Samantha doesn't get the connection at all, for she is too worried about the potential she has of missing said party than anything they are saying at the moment. "Since monsters aren't going to be attacking us right now, I have to call your attention to a bigger problem I am facing." She says, putting her hands up so they will hopefully pay attention. "I just got invited to a party, but the invitation didn't say where or when it was, and when I accepted it, it just disappeared." She looks at the ground, as if searching for something. "I don't think it fell. Do you think it fell on the ground?" Only then does she notice a pile of notes nearby on a suspicious crate. She picks up the notes and skims over them. She then turns back and looks at her counterparts and says "These papers aren't invites, but they say some scary stuff that I don't really get." She holds them out for whoever in the group wants to read them.
Wordz:590 Notes: Samantha is a very bad listener.

"You know, the monsters around here are fairly low in level and can be easily defeated." Kaos interrupted "I awoke out by the gate and ended up in a couple battles myself. We should be fine if we stick together." The summoner made some gestures in the air (opening his menu, Kadence figured) and a screen popped open in front of her, asking if she wanted the join the party. This was going better than she'd thought... she pressed the yes button, and the status screens that appeared before her revealed that Samantha had done the same. "This will help in several ways, Samantha. Do you mind if I can you Sam to save time?" Kaos didn't bother to wait for an answer, and just readjusted his glasses in a way that caught the light and caused it to glint "You see Sam, this will allow us to communicate telepathically as well as vocally thus allowing us to plan in secret, it will also allow our mute friend, Kadence was it? To communicate with us in a more timely manner by, if this is still like the game, projecting her words in our minds. Or even her thoughts if she is comfortable with that." He gave a bit of a forced smile, which she guessed was supposed to be reassuring.
Kadence watched as Kaos explained the basics of the party system and the various classes they had. The bard was a bit relived the two of them were such chatterboxes; much less speaking and writing she had to do.
“Hold it!” the Swashbuckler called out. She jumped at the sound of his voice, almost having forgotten he was there. “While we may want to have each other in our friends list,” he gestured in the air, and a friend request appeared in front of Kadence, which she promptly accepted. “We may want to go look around first and we need time to explain everything we know to Samantha and establish some sort of better communication with Kadence, specifically sign language, until she is able to speak. It would only make sense she can, even if she can’t in the real world. And it would be advantageous to join up with the monk and enchanter.”
"Since monsters aren't going to be attacking us right now, I have to call your attention to a bigger problem I am facing." Samantha added. "I just got invited to a party, but the invitation didn't say where or when it was, and when I accepted it, it just disappeared." Before Kadence could explain that it wasn't that kind of party, she picked up a pile of notes- she'd only briefly spotted the assassin who was now hiding inside a nearby box place them. "These papers aren't invites, but they say some scary stuff that I don't really get."
Kadence skimmed the documents, thankful that the other girl had explained why even the party system wouldn't work like that. Unfortunately, Samantha didn't seem to absorb any of the information being thrown at her. She did her best to explain. Basically, when this was a game, if you died, you would come back to life at the cathedral. But we don't know if that rule still applies here, or if you die for real. She directed her next sentence at Kaos, noting that You should probably invite tzuf and the assassin in the box over there. That will put us at 5 people... she bit her lower lip, slightly frustrated But the party limit is 6. I don't think the enchanter and the monk are all that interested in joining us anyways, so we can probably work with this setup anyways.

[attr="class","cscroll"] my eyes can see the death of everything even if that thing is god "I just got invited to a party, but the invitation didn't say where or when it was, and when I accepted it, it just disappeared."
Hah?
"I don't think it fell. Do you think it fell on the ground?"
If Elfriede wasn't already sitting, she may have fallen over at what Samantha just said.
Ok so there are two people here who can't speak and one of us is a complete beginner to net games and lacks knowledge on its terminology.
Immediately pulling out her notepad again, Elfriede began her explanation of the party system.
'In RPG's (Role Playing Games), a party generally refers to a group of people, generally adventurers, who explore, fight monsters, and complete quests together. The party invitation is simply an invitation to join a group, in other words a party. It would probably be ideal for you to learn the slang and terminology used in net games as you will likely see people referring to it for quite some time.'
I probably should explain the nature of the menu as well.
'Also, that box with the invitation you saw, it isn't an actual physical object. You can consider it as a sort of a pseudo solid light manifestation, very similar to holograms, that only you can see and interact with. Your menu lets you see your character information such as level, experience points, stats, classes, skills, friends list, party info, inventory, etc. It is probably a good idea to familiarize yourself with the menu as well. There is also a log out button, but you can probably tell that it doesn't work.'
Come to think of it, have any of them tried using their weapons yet?
It seems that in this world, for adventurers at least, their bodies have some perks that did not exist in the previous reality. One such perk was their bodies' innate combat proficiency. It seems that any weapon that their classes and skills have proficiency in are capable of being wielded by them with ease. In Elfriede's case, she was able to easily wield her scythe despite never having been trained in any form of combat before, let alone with an unorthodox weapon like a scythe. 'Our bodies have a sort of advance muscle memory when it comes to combat. If we are wielding any weapon that we have proficiency in, whether by class feature or through a skill, our bodies will instinctively know how to fight with those weapons; it is basically our bodies being able to fight for themselves. Of course, there are some inefficiencies in it so it is best to eventually learn how to fight for yourself.'
I should probably go over skills as well.
'Then there are skills. Think of them as special techniques; if a regular attack is a handgun, skills can be akin to a rocket launcher or even a tactical missile depending on the skill. Skills can be called through the menu by selecting them, but this method is rather inefficient as your enemies will likely not wait for you to pick a skill from your menu to kill them with, thus there seems to be another way for us to call upon them. It seems that the hotkey system was adapted into both a voice and mental system that allows us to call on skills both vocally and mentally. For obvious reasons I have yet to try the vocal activation, but I have been instinctively using the stealth skill Hide Walk during this meeting. Right now, our skills are likely to be fairly weak through a combination of stats, level, and the fact that these are beginner skills. As we level, we progress onto stronger and more powerful skills. Of course, for all the power that skills offer us, there are some costs and limitations. For starters, most skills will likely have a cost in Magic Points, or MP for short; if you don't have the MP, then you won't be able to use the skill. Skills will also likely have a cooldown; cooldowns are designed to balance skills out so that people don't continuously spam their strongest skills. Stronger skills tend to have longer cooldowns to balance them, requiring you to think carefully when to use them.'
After finishing her small tutorial on skills, Elfriede added one more note to the pile.
'If you have any more question feel free to ask.'
Moving the box towards Samantha, Elfriede quickly popped out of the box and handed Samantha the notes before quickly retreating back into her box. Elfriede really did feel safe in the box, like she had finally found true happiness—in the box! Ever since Elfriede found her destiny—being inside the box—she had found it much easier to deal with her deathly shyness, probably because she is feels like she is hidden from them, even though she really isn't.
Huh, it looks like they are trying to set up an adventuring party. Wait they aren't going to invite me are they?
If Elfriede was invited, she would have to leave her safe box, something that was completely unacceptable. However, another realization hit her: she would have to eventually leave the box.
Noooooooooooo!
There was no avoiding it. Aside from necessary things like using the bathroom, Elfriede would have to leave the box to fight monsters and level. She couldn't fight monsters from within the box and this is ignoring the fact that a monster would likely destroy the box. The thought of losing her precious box made Elfriede forgot the fact that if she was invited into a party, she would have to work with everyone in the party—at least for the day—something her shyness would likely not agree with. With the negative thoughts compounding on her, Elfriede made a sound she would end up using quite often in the future, "Uuuuuuuuuuuuu."

Samantha watches Kadence write out an explanation for the cryptic note she had found. "So, this is a good old Catholic game, huh?" She asks with a smile, holding up her fist with a look of pride. "Anyway, if we aren't sure how it works, wouldn't it be better if-" Sam stops, noticing Elfriede popping out of the box over and over to stack little notes on top. "What do we have here?" Sam asks, walking over and looking at the paper pile. "So that's where you went, huh?" She picks up the papers and begins reading. "Oh, so I'm already in a party? I don't see why we would need to invite people who are standing right there. Seems like a waste of a good pseudo light manifestation.... thing." She scratches her head. "Hologram? Like they do with dead singers? Well, alright, I guess that makes sense." She turns the page and looks at the next tip. "Fighting stuff, muscle memory. I know a few things about that! Alright, this is easy." Despite the fact that she is talking out loud, she is completely unaware of what the others may be doing while she is reading. Turning the page again, she just stares blankly at it for a while. Hotkeys? Levels? Wait, spam? You can 'spam' your skills? That sounds amusing and disgusting. I wonder if there are any better tasting skills. She skims the paper until she gets to the bottom. Well, thanks for offering, I do have a lot of questions, actually. Sam smiles and lets out a soft laugh. Let's see if I can't figure this out on my own, though- Her thoughts are suddenly cut short at the "uuuuuuuuuuuu" sound coming from the box. She looks back at the box below her and gets down on her knees. She lifts the bottom of the box and peeks inside. "You are like a little hermit crab in there." She says. "What are spam skills, and can you add any other foods to them?"

Kaos stifled his laugh as Samantha Lemongrass freaks out about the "Party" she can't find. He bit his lip, trying not to laugh, as he followed Kadence's advice, sending an invite to both tzuf23 and Elfriede. He holds the notes from the shy assassin and reads them, surprised by the wealth of knowledge she was able to fit on a small piece of paper. "Kadence, you do have a point although we can safely travel with five people. If you guys want, we can explore the town, gear up then head out. Also, a quick way for you two silent characters to communicate might be good. Are either of you two strategists?" He thinks about his question for a second and realizes communication is a large component of being the strategist, so they most likely weren't. He heard a strange noise from the "assassin in a box" followed by Samantha's Hermit Crab joke and couldn't restrain himself any longer. A soft chuckle escaped his lips and slowly rolled into a laugh, bringing a tear to his eye. During his laughter his mind wandered to an old memory of his early medical days. Abel watched the bubbles flow towards the surface of the tank, each one battling for position and breaking into smaller bubbles. The aquarium was unusually quiet that day, having very few people inside. Then again it was a Tuesday morning and no one in their right mind would go to an aquarium at this time of day, however after losing two of his patients the night before he wasn't in his right mind. He had promised Jimmy that he'd bring him here when he got out of the hospital, a promise that he could not keep the eight year old boy now. This was all he could do now, was come here and reminisce about him."Why are they called Hermit Crabs if they are in every tank with their friends? Then again, they never seem to get along." It was a simple observation he was told by that little boy but it always felt like it was missing a punchline. Something like: "They're just a little shellfish" The memory made him laugh as he watched the hermit crabs in the tank in front of him clean the rocks. He then grew sad, knowing he'd never get the chance to tell Jimmy that joke and sat on the nearby bench, tears welling in his eyes. I couldn't save him, he didn't deserve what happened to him. No one deserves that....Kaos stopped laughing and stared at his hands, seeing the tears fall and splash off them. He fell to his knees, everything hitting him at once. Jimmy... I'm sorry. He wiped away the tears quickly, remembering where he was and realizing his position. He quickly got back up, hoping no one noticed. I have to find a way home, I have to help save as many people that I can. Respawn or not, I can't let them die here. Die in a place without their loved ones....

When Samantha asked the box-girl what kinds of food you can add to spam skills, the summoner finally broke his calm demeanor by bursting out laughing, catching Kadence off-guard. Of all of them, she'd thought of him being the most... sane? Held-together? She wasn't sure of the word, but it made him seem like an unbreakable pillar, but now... he looked like he was really happy, but sad at the same time. A few tears fell from his eyes, and the shock of feeling them hit his hands seemed to snap him out of it. She gave him a worried look, but decided not to comment on it. [attr="class","cscroll"] my eyes can see the death of everything even if that thing is god !
"What are spam skills, and can you add any other foods to them?"
Hah?
Elfriede couldn't believe her ears. It was one thing to not know what Party and some terminology in the conext of online gaming, but to not know something as common as spam in a plain internet context?
Does she not get Spam mail or something? Well I guess some e-mail services call it by a different name, but still! And even if she doesn't know the context, can't she guess that the context is not about food? Is she making fun of me by pretending to not know what these terms mean?
Elfriede wasn't sure if the person who stole her first kiss was either really dense or making fun of her, though either one would easily lead her into an urge to smack person in front of her.
I'm not dealing any damage if I smacked her in the face so it shouldn't count as combat right?
If her actions counted as combat then the Royal Guards that prevent combat in safe zones, like Londinium, may appear. Being special level 100 NPC's, there is no way for Elfriede to survive a confrontation with one. She isn't sure how they would even react to begin with. Normally, they would just give her a warning and if she followed she would get off scot free. However, it is possible that with the Landers possibly having developed their own sense of humanity and are no longer lines of code, it is possible that some of them have shorter tempers and may just kill her on the spot without asking questions. With the penalty for death being unknown at the moment, it was probably best for Elfriede to avoid meeting the Royal Guards at the moment.
Maybe if I trick some people into attacking me? Maybe I could use that to force test the respawn feature, see if it still works.
Some dark thoughts were forming in Elfriede's mind, but that is a story for another time. Right now Elfriede needed to do something about the person in front of her and said person's understanding of gaming terminology, though a part of her does not want to and just wants to flee the current scene, finding it to be a bit of a drag.
Explaining everything to her could take forever…
With a sigh Elfriede took out her notepad and began writing,
I can't my first kiss was taken by someone like this.
'Spam means to repeatedly use in a short period of time. We really need to teach you game terminology.'
Face palming herself at Samantha's response, Elfriede just hands her the note and hopes she understands.

Samantha knew her question was completely off the wall, but she couldn't help but ask it. Outside of food, she had no idea what spam was. Computers were never her strong suit. She had seen how computers seemed to suck everyone else's lives away, and she was determined to have no part in that. And, like many of her choices she had made in life, she was coming to regret that decision. Another decision she was coming to regret was lifting the box and asking this unusual girl the question she asked. The girl may be unwilling or unable to speak, but her face did plenty of speaking for her. Was she upset by the question, or by Sam looking in the box and disturbing her secret hiding place? Sam couldn't be sure. As this girl's face turned from a look of annoyance to one of creepy enthusiasm. Samantha started to back up and lower the box over Elfriede when she suddenly began writing again. She handed Sam the bit of paper, at which point, Sam stood up and dropped the box back over Elfriede's head. "Spam means to repeatedly use in a short period of time." She reads out loud. "Well, I can't imagine how they came to give it that name." She continues reading. "We really need to teach you game terminology. That would be helpful, I guess." Sam looks over at the others, catching a glimpse of some of Kadence's writing in the air. I hope I didn't miss anything important. She glances back at the box and asks no one in particular "So, where do we start?"

Kaos readjusted his glasses and composed himself as he read Kadence's note and heard Samantha Lemongrass read another note out loud. He took a deep breath and stretched out his neck and shoulders before placing his hand on the hilt of his sword. "I think the best thing for us to do is tour the city, grab some equipment with what little starter money they give us, and take to the city gates. However, it may be prudent for us to stay in town for a couple days and enjoy each other's company before we head outside. I will leave the choice up to you guys, just know that I intend to go out and scout the area to gather some intel."I will have to do something to preoccupy my mind as well as help as many people as I can. I still need to find Noelle and any more of my patients that might be here as well. Kaos's right hand rested on the pommel of the sword strapped across the small of his back as his left hand tagged at a strap on his armor that felt a little too tight. I don't think I'll ever get used to this dang armor, it's too constricting. All things consisdered though, I need to search the area to assess the risks and dangers more thouroughly, luckily my subclass can helps with that as I can evaluate their stats and skills. He turns towards Samantha and smiles his same soft smile that he uses for his patients. "How is your quest for knowledge going Sam? Is it bearing any fruits?" He gets a wry smile at his own food-based pun at her expense.

Samantha wanted to interrupt the man who called himself Kaos, but she realized that she had better listen. There was much to this world that she had not yet even begun to understand, and despite the fact that this felt and looked like real life, it was not. So, when he suggested that they stay in town, stock up, and get to know each other, she was actually listening. "How is your quest for knowledge going, Sam? Is it bearing any fruits?" He asked, ending his short monologue. "Well, to be honest, it is hard to tell. This place looks like the real world, so if there are things I don't know, I don't know that I don't know them." She glanced back at the box with Elfriede in it before returning her gaze to Kaos. "I do like your idea of staying in town. I really want to see more of this place before going anywhere else." Samantha smiled widely. "It isn't often you get transported to another world, after all." She takes a deep breath and looks over her surroundings. The buildings looked like they were falling apart and the streets had grass growing through the cracks. It wasn't somewhere Samantha would want to live long-term, but it was paradise to the adventurer inside her. "Why don't we all start by going in that direction?" She asked, pointing to where a few Landers had set up stalls and were selling food. She once again turned and looked at her little group. "And then we should go that way." She pointed again behind them at a part of the city that seems to be a bit more run down than the others.
