| ◀ | You're the apple to my pie❤ So many hours had been consumed just to panic about this day, and so many days had been wasted because of simply being scared of this day. More specifically, Isa was scared of something that one really needed to do.
Fight
For most, it wasn’t a big deal. They were stuck in a world where one would just respawn whenever ones Hp hit 0. But Isa was still scared. What if the respawning system would malfunction, causing people who died to not respawn anymore? The chance of that happening was probably really small, but that really small chance was big enough for Isa to worry.
Dying was a big deal, even if you could respawn. She found it so weird that everyone was just alright with coming back to life whenever they died. It definitely didn’t seem normal, and Isa wanted to avoid it for as long as she could.
Another reason for her not to fight was not knowing if mobs actually had a sense of pain. People of the land seemed exactly like normal people, so how about mobs? Isa wouldn’t be able to kill an innocent creature if it felt pain, that’d just be brutal. It would feel like killing a dog in real life for her, not like she had ever done that though.
Anyway, there wasn’t a reason to worry about these things anymore. She had already promised to fight together with her friend, Haru. Besides, she had to start fighting to earn some extra gold and experience. They needed money for food and shelter badly, so it was either fight or set up a shop, and Isa couldn’t really see herself set up a shop. Though if she couldn’t get over her fear of dying, she didn’t really have a choice.
If she would be able to get over her fear, Isa would just keep fighting with Haru. But if she wouldn’t be able to get over it, she wasn’t really sure if she was going to start a shop as an artisan or as a different subclass. She had picked a crafting subclass without giving it a lot of thought. Artisan sounded and looked cool, but Isa wasn’t sure if she was creative enough. Anyway, she had enough time to think about this..
Isa had travelled from Londinium, to Windsor Greatwood together with Haru. This was she first time she had ever set foot out of Londinium, where she had spent her whole time in Elder Tale so far. It was pretty refreshing to be out of the city, and Windsor Greatwood definitely looked much prettier and happier than the city.
Being a girl obsessed with cute and pretty things, Isa could sit down and enjoy the valley for hours. She could already see some slimes jumping around, and even a cute rabbit. Too bad she was here to kill things.
“So.. what’s the plan” Isa turned around, facing Haru. He had told her he had a good strategy, which she believed. She would be fine with any strategy, as long as she wouldn’t get too close to mobs and wouldn’t die. If a mob would be too close though, Isa was most likely going to run for it.

Haru could already tell that this day was going to suck, not because of any terrible luck but because of the time he had awoke, it was like school all over again, but they needed it both him and Isa. HE was happy that she was going to engage in a battle no matter how small or easy it ended up being, however he wondered if she’d be able to handle it, not that she was too weak physically but mentally, whether she ran away or just didn’t attack, not that she needed to she was a support class after all and didn’t really need to attack to be effective, but he’d let her do whatever she wanted as long as she stayed in the battle. Most of the walk Haru had thought about what to do, he had created a rather simple plan that had few plan b’s as he thought like most rpg’s, the first few levels were simple and didn’t require much strategy until later on, but it still meant that one should be created, just not as exquisitely as you would need against a boos at max level. He also couldn’t come up with some hard to perform plan, or something slightly confusing too make sure that it was easy enough for Isa’s first time. And yes it was Haru’s first time in this game to fight, but he had experience in games like these giving him what he would think of as an edge.
His main worry, more so than Isa just running away however was just her freezing, if that happened he would have a much harder time, if she ran at least shed a moving target attempting to escape not a still target not noticing or caring. But worrying about her was not going to help him if that was all he did, after all he was going to be in the thick of it much more than her as an assassin, and he couldn’t afford to focus all his attention on her and not himself, otherwise he would lose and in turn her.
Haru decided to let the thoughts float away, in the middle of battle he most likely would be able to focus on what Isa was doing anyway, he would just have to trust that she would stick to their plan and do her part, if she did than none of the monster would even attack her let alone kill her so it would go well. But she needed to make sure Haru stayed alive, not healing too early or too late or disaster would strike. That’s where the true trust came in, he needed to be able to focus on striking and dodging, and if he could focus a lot less on his own hp and having to retreat, they could finish enemies much quicker.
He felt like a true gamer at this point, or a military general, thinking of the battle to come and the outcomes that could be made, and that was necessary for now. And so Haru walked, with as little thinking going on, and stayed in this state for a while following Isa until she turned and asked him for the plan that he thought of.
“Well, it’s pretty simple really. I’m an assassin so I need to reply on a surprise attack to start of a battle in a good way, and sadly you can’t do the same, so two options came to mind, you being a distraction, or you hiding yourself while I do my thing. I figured you’d like the latter, and so you will follow at a distance of 6 meters, which should be enough to see me and act upon the battle when necessary. I will spare you the details of what I will be doing while you stay the distance away from the group of hostiles, however when you see me attack I will kill one most likely, then I will use one of my skills that increase the agro on me, allowing you to be untargetable in a sense. From that point on you will need to watch my health, bar and make sure I don’t die. Now when you see my bind go off you will use your own, and trust me you’ll tell as the monster will try to step and won’t be able to. At that point your little fire spell can be of use and you can easily light the two binded people on fire, when that is done I need you too spawn your tree in front of you, it should deter the enemies if they feel like running to you because as you start your flame spell I will slip back into the darkness and reveal when of the monster targets you and gets within 2 meters to take over agro again, and my agro spell should be up again so you should be fine. The tree is simply just in case, hopefully after that we will be done, if not just listen to me and I will do my best to guide us to victory. Work?”
He finished and hoped that she understood it all, it was a lot to say but probably one of the shortest hes ever explained considering his old game, and it was pretty simple, it all relied on stealth, agro and letting skills enhance others.

| ◀ | You're the apple to my pie❤ Great, using her as a distraction was one of the options for the plan. Haru luckily got that she wouldn’t like that at all, and she really didn’t. Though she was fine with distracting people, mobs were a whole different story. She would most likely end up running away as fast as she could if she had actually had to be a distraction. Isa listened closely though to everything Haru said, unlike usual. She usually would get bored and just look away, but fighting was a big deal for her and she didn’t want to mess up. It was also very rare for her to even memorise things people said when they talked for that long, but this time she did it.
Haru’s plan sounded good, and it showed he had considered her fear. Though she was a little scared of her timing, as she was most likely not going to be “quick casting” or whatever it was called. Isa wasn’t going to take the risk to fail at casting a spell by yelling the name and getting into a certain position, so she was just going to use the menu, at least for the first few creatures they’d take the life of.
“Alright, it’s clear.” she said, taking her spear off of her back and quickly opening her menu just to make sure she remembered how to get everywhere. She had already investigated the menu and studied it a little so she wouldn’t be incredibly slow. While looking around in the menu, Isa repeated the plan Haru had told her in her mind.
Even though Isa was still pretty damn nervous and scared, she felt more ready than she did before, probably thanks to haru’s plan. It made her feel safer, knowing that he had actually made a big plan instead of just saying “let’s kill some things”without any information how they’d do it. As expected from Haru though, he didn’t just come to the fields with her with no idea how or what they were going to do to kill some mobs.
After completing checking her menu, Isa closed it and smiled slightly at Haru. “I’m read-”Isa opened her menu as she saw a slime just about 7 meters behind Haru, coming closer to them. She quickly navigated to her skills and.. Pressed the wrong button because she was panicking. Soon, a spherical orb of light appeared right next to her head, with a sad expression. How did she mess up so bad? “there’s a slime right behind you” Isa said with a panicky voice, backing off slowly. When she suddenly got an idea, Isa ran into the opposite direction, past Haru and the slime itself, and positioned herself about 6 meters away from the slime and more than 6 meters away from Haru, before opening her menu again, this time actually focusing on pressing the right thing, Willow spirit. This ability allowed her to bind a target and limit it’s movement speed, which was an ideal ability to get a head-start when running away, but of course also useful when supporting someone. The description of the spell said the vines would lash out to the closest target, so Isa wanted to make sure she was further away from Haru just to make sure he wouldn’t get bound. She wasn’t sure if the spell actually attacked players or not, as she had never seen the spell in action.
Soon after casting the spell, plant vines sprouted out if the ground and wrapped themselves around the slime, allowing it to only move a little. Isa stared at the slime, who she had succesfully attacked and who hadn’t touched her or Haru. This was amazing. Even though she was slightly scared and panicked at the site of a slime, she managed to come up with an idea and successfully do it. Isa was proud of herself, again. Though, after staring a bit Isa did unleash her inner hate for disgusting slimes. She had already not liked them when she started playing the game, which she had also told Haru. The creatures looked so ugly and sticky, it made her shiver at the thought of touching one. Luckily though, the slime wasn’t going to touch her as it was stuck in her spell, that she had succesfully done, and was very, very proud of.

Haru had to laugh at poor Isa, she seemed scared to no end when she realized the slime was coming up, which was funny in two ways, one because the slime didn’t even seem like it had wanted a fight, and now it was too late anyway, but also because she used her magic light spell and not something more, useful. However Haru watched as she ran away and he began to think of a way to fix this little situation, and so I started my spell, fatal ambush focusing on the slime which didn’t seem like it had much of a weak spot by just looking but it ended up being the eyes, after the five second it took Harus spell to prepare Isa had managed to run around the slime and bind it, luckily he used hide walk in addition to his fatal ambush to sneak up quickly and strike the binded slime from the back, sword plunging through and hitting the slime in the eye on the other side of its body, he was surprised to find that the monster actually didn’t die, but with my sword in the slime Haru spun around with the sword as if tossing a disc in the Olympics, pulling his sword through the body of the slime severing half of its upper body from its lower half, it wasn’t completely in half which would have looked much cooler, but at least it disappeared as its health was lost. Haru looked back over to Isa and smiled “You should probably fix that fear of a monster who is 3 levels lower than you and by itself against me and you” He looked away back to were to the smile had just been. He wondered what it looked like from her perspective, him preparing his spell, and then disappearing and reappearing with his sword plunged into the slime. It must have been confusing as it happened within two seconds from him disappearing to reappearing and only a split second longer to finish off the slime. He only hoped that his quick actions and simple kill would help make Isa trust him in battle and be a little less scared all the time, but it was a long shot. Haru also wondered how he had even done it, he had heard of people talking about using their skills, without actually opening their menu, but he was surprised to be able to do it so easily, he simply used the description of the skills to figure out what he must do.
His fatal ambush had focusing on a weak point as its main objective, so that’s what he did for five seconds until a red dot displayed on the slimes eye, and as for hide walk, that was even easier he simply stood still for two seconds as if nothing was going on and then noticed that he had an invisible buff and quickly ran stabbing the monster, the rest could all be explained as him imitating people in the movies, but it seemed to have worked, he was simply happy it did.
Now he only hoped that Isa would soon be able too, as she had used her menu, but of course hers would most likely be much harder, mine were all straight forward do this for that, hers was just like a magical light appears from your hand or whatever, not focus on a bright light and it will appear. Unless that’s how it did work in which case then it would be easy, but who knew Haru sure didn’t and it seemed as though Isa didn’t as well. But they would find out he was sure. “We should probably get back to it, play sneaky now, no more wandering around aimlessly, and let’s try to be the ambushers, not ambush-ies.”

| ◀ | You're the apple to my pie❤ Isa had a twinkle in his eyes for quite a while after successfully hitting the first offensive spell she had ever casted. Since she had never been outside of the safe zone, the only spell she had been using was her idol ability, which made a spotlight appear over her or someone else who happened to be close to her. She had wanted to use the ability on Haru for quite a while, but never succeeded, mostly by her own mistakes. Isa would usually get carried away and would just end up focusing more on her epic pose, completely forgetting she actually wanted to cast it on her friend. One day, she will succeed though, and it’ll make her feel better than ever.
Isa was brought back to reality when suddenly seeing Haru dissapear. For a second, she thought he was teleported away or something along those lines, which would’ve caused her to run for her life if he had stayed away for any longer. Luckily, she didn’t have to run as Haru appeared infront of her slime, his sword pushed into the sticky, terrifying body of the slime. Isa backed off slightly when Haru almost cut the slime in half, which would’ve made her feel sorry for any other creature, except for slimes though, they didn’t deserve her attention.
If someone would be brave enough to ask why she hated slimes, she could tell that person so many things. Everything about them made her feel sticky, filthy and just disgusted. Also, if slimes were bigger than her, she would also be scared for her life. She had seen certain movies where slime monsters would just hop onto a human and hold it captive while slowly eating it up, that wasn’t going to happen to her. The chance of slimes in LH actually being able to do that was probably very small, but she would still stay cautious whenever encountering one of these creatures.
Seeing the Slime die in front of her eyes just seconds after binding the creature, felt really good. She was aware that assassin’s could deal a lot of damage, but she thought it would’ve taken at least a little longer. It also made her feel a little safer around Haru, who seemed to definitely be ready to fight, unlike her.
When she was told the slime was three levels lower than her, it’s quick death was slightly more understandable than it had been before. Isa hadn’t paid any attention to the slime’s level or hp bar, probably because she was a little distracted and wasn’t used to this way of fighting at all. She knew she was stuck in a game, and knew how the fighting system worked, but she still acted like this was a fight taking place in real life, ignoring HP and the super awesome abilities she had. It wasn’t like she fought a lot, in fact, she had only gotten into a real fight once, which was with a younger girl who decided to bite her. However, she sometimes watched boxing series and would often get into it a little too much.. Many pillows had felt her iron fists while she was watching boxing, her bed had also been beaten viciously several times.. Thanks to this though she had a way of letting her anger out, thus being able to be happy almost every day.
Isa giggled at Haru, scratching the side of her head while smiling. She wasn’t really embarrassed, not at all really. She was blinded by her pride of being able to help killing the creature she hated so much. “I’m doing my best~” she replied, still far too happy about killing the slime.
A big smile was stuck on Isa’s face, and she couldn’t get rid of it for a while. No way in heck had she expected that she wouldn’t be scared to death right now. She probably wasn’t because the monster hadn’t been alive long enough for Isa to even process there was a monster that could kill her, right infront of her. But if it had lived until her spell had to go on cooldown, Isa would’ve ran away as fast as she could. If she couldn’t run away, she would probably have to use her fighting skills, which were horrible, to destroy the slime itself. However, the chance of her actually taking action when the slime would be in melee range, was really small and she’d probably end up just collapsing.
Being scared of fighting wasn’t fun, at all.
The girl hoped that the killing spree she’d make today together with Haru would be enough to prove herself that there was no reason to be scared, but it seemed impossible right now. Even though she was so happy at the moment, she was still scared of getting close to a mob that was faster and scarier than a dull slime.
Haru’s word joke caused Isa, who laughed at almost anything, to keep in her laugh. She found that this was the best time for her to put up another great act to make herself a little happier, and maybe Haru too. With a (fake) terrified look, Isa looked at Haru. She dropped her spear and lifted her hands above her head, then falling down on her knees. “O-Oh no...” She covered her face with her hands. “My biggest weakness, horrible word jokes..” she cried out. She lifted her hands into the air, looking up and whispering ”Showtime”. After 5 awkward seconds the spotlight appeared over her, and she felt amazing. The ability did make the aggro on a person a little higher but as there were no mobs too close around her, she thought it’d be okay to do such an amazing act.
After getting up, Isa glared at the light she had summoned, which also glared right back at her. The light was pretty much useless right now, as it still was day time, but Isa was sure it’d be useful one day. isa’s glare changed into a smile, making the light smile too as it slowly vanished. She then looked back at Haru. “From now on i’ll be serious, I’ll do my best” she grinned, tilting her head slightly. It was now time to fight without joking around.

As Isa replied to Haru saying that she was trying her best, he knew she was telling the truth, and he couldn’t really expect much more, it was her first time fighting in the game and as far as he knew she wasn’t much of the fighting type, his guess coming from her sacredness. But he could be wrong but he never thought down upon his final conclusions so he was confident that was true. In the end he was happy that she seemed reassured about fighting with him at least, he could tell that she seemed a little less frightened, although not completely. Isa went on to make fun of Haru’s comment which irritated him a bit, he had never been one to joke about a joke as it seemed rather tiresome, but he dealt with it. For now he really wanted to get back to fighting, it was like the real world in a way. He was able to slip into total darkness, invisible to others but himself, and able to sink away to his own thoughts if he wanted. And as well as when he slipped away from the darkness that he lived in 20 hours of the day an adrenaline rush came and it made him forget about any problems that he held. In the real world his escape had been reading and other simple activities, in this new world however it seemed to be cutting a slime in half, or other monsters of course.
Haru looked at Isa, her using ShowTime to be a little flashier. “You know, whether you think your safe or not, its not the best idea to gain agro on yourself, you never know, there could be a field boss behind a tree.” Haru finished and shoved his hands in his pockets and flipped his hood up so he was hidden from everything, it was like his very own turtle shell a place to hide in for safety. “But we should probably get back to what we came here for, we need to hunt a lot and return to town before sun sets, I’m going invisible however.” In a mocking voice of Isa Haru continued. “But how will I ever know where your gracefulness has gone master” Back into his normal serious voice, he took a step and pointed back to where he had just been, foot prints. “That’s how; just follow me from a short distance watching my footsteps, be sure to keep distance though otherwise it ruins the point”
And finishing, Haru’s hand back into his pockets he disappeared from sight and began to walk over to the side of the trail they had been following and used the bushes and trees to hide his footsteps from anything that may walk on the trail. He just hoped that Isa could be quiet enough now not to attract unwanted attention to them that could prove fatal. Haru thought for a bit as he walked, scoping the forest back and forth right to left, left to right and then a quick peek behind him. He did this scoping for a while thinking back to his old life and events that he had regretted. He always had random moments at least once a day in which he would think about thoughts that would hurt him emotionally, whether it be something as simple as getting a B on a test and why that happened, to all the regrets he could think of. Haru had trouble with this thought, because in his mind he had made the best choices he could, he thought out every possible outcome of every possible path and took the one he thought would help the most, but as he was growing older he began to realize that his reasoning always may not have been the best.
His biggest regret in life had always been shutting people out; it was a confusing regret, one that often came up in his thoughts when he was bored especially because although he regrets it he never stops. He only wondered what it would be like if he had been more outgoing, as he had envied the people who were able to be such, Isa for example was willing to do her ShowTime pose in the middle of town, whereas Haru became embarrassed to simply be near her when she did it. And he envied her for that, he had always known the main reason why he shut people out, that the pain that came with love and relationships however big or small was a weight he did not was too carry. However he had begun to wonder a year ago after moving to England if that was the right choice, he saw these out going people hanging out with their friends and going to the movies or a park and what not, watching them enjoy the times they spent with each other while he simply sat at home playing video games. The only person he had even hung out with after school since moving to England was Isa.
But even when that happened it was weird, because then people would look at them and wonder why the hell Isa would be hanging around with Haru, or more likely the other way. After all it wasn’t as if Haru was disliked in school, or thought as a weirdo many had talked to him but he did not respond in such kind and that made them wonder if he even wanted to be social, and that’s why they reacted in kind.
Haru however was pulled from his thoughts seeing two briar weasels, level 10s the same as him but one below Isa, without looking back he figured that Isa had followed him and they could handle it, he found a branch climbed it, applying his poison affect to his weapon before focusing on the enemy below and out a little from him. With fatal ambush being complete after 5 seconds he jumped out dropping onto the weasel with a strike down its neck and into the spine of the poor creature, he saw the health of the creature drop instantly to half ticking with poison, and quickly casting his agro spell, too make sure when Isa showed up she would not be in harm’s way, he then looked back casting his bind before using hide walk to disappear once again. All he hoped now was that Isa could do her part and finish off the first creature and getting the other low enough for Haru to finish it.
