Vylbrand
Two smartly uniformed individuals stand at a booth at a busy intersection, large banners framing their stall as they talk with curious passersby:
"Unity is humankind's greatest strength, a small group of committed people can change the world. Vylbrand is an organisation committed to ensuring that its members have the training and support needed to survive and thrive in this world."
"Whether you wish to become a great soldier, a powerful magician, a master craftsman, or an economic power there is a place for you in our excellent Academy program. Cadets who continue through our program are welcome to join our military branch in whichever discipline they prefer. With our expert officers and instructors directing, and our dedicated and skilled members backing you, there's nothing that we cannot achieve together."
"Still interested? Want to know more? Please take a look through these brochures, and I'll be happy to answer any question. You'd like an application form? Here you go. Take this to our headquarters at the Royal Naval Academy and you can discuss joining with one of our head recruiting officers. I hope to see you there later!"
Our Goals
Vylbrand Academy; A military Academy focussed upon learning how to defend against various threats, either physical, mental or economical. Our cadets are trained to protect themselves and others from the various threats this new world poses to them, the native population (People of the Land) and their fellow adventurers.
What do we offer:
We offer our Cadets lessons of varying matters, primarily: 'How to Survive the Apocalypse?'. We also place emphasis on teamwork, physical and mental strength, and an innovative mind.
Ranks
Cadets: The Cadets are the newly enlisted into the guild. They will be required to follow some basic courses and perform some basic tasks.
First Year Cadet
Second Year Cadet
Third Year Cadet
Private: Privates are Cadets that have completed their courses and tasks successfully.
NCO (Non- Comissioned Officers):
Sergeant: The sergeants help bridge the gap between the officers, privates and cadets, leading cadets and privates on the required tasks said ranks are required to perform. The sergeants also help evaluate the progression of privates and cadets.
CO (Commisioned Officers):
Lieutenant: Lieutenants help with the day to day coming and goings of the guild. They can assign tasks to cadets, privates or sergeants, as well as teach classes. Lieutenants will also evaluate the performances of the lower ranks.
Captain: Captains are the liasons between the higher ranked officers and the lower ranked officers, privates and cadets. Captains evaluated the performances of all, as well as assigning tasks and giving courses.
Colonel: Then colonel is the replacement officer for the Headmaster- General. The colonel helps with the daily tasks as well as the more clerical side of running the guild.
Getting promoted
Cadets: Cadets will get promoted after they have spent some time within the Academy, following lessons, showing skill and merit. A promotion will also require a recommendation from fellow cadets or superiors.
Private: Privates will get promoted after they have finished their courses at Vylbrand, as well having taken part in at least some tasks.
Sergeant: To become a sergeant a private will have to be apprenticed to a superior officer or lead a detachment of cadets and privates on several tasks.
Lieutenant: To become a lieutenant the sergeant will have to get both a recommendation of his superiors, as well as recommendations from the cadets he/she has been leading.
Captain: To become a Captain a lieutenant will be required to perform various tasks, most are related to the day to day workings of the Academy.
Colonel: The rank of Colonel can only be appointed by the Headmaster- General and requires a great deal of merit, skill and endeavour to be obtained. The Colonel, in all effects, is the second in command of the Academy.
Founded in the early days after the Catastrophe, Vylbrand was originally a small group of individuals banding together for support in the face of an unknown future. As time passed and its members became more skilled in the ways of their new world the focus of the organisation shifted into helping train others to survive and even thrive as they had done. In this way the ranks of Vylbrand swelled with an influx of students coming to be commonly referred to by the unofficial moniker 'Vylbrand Academy'.
While successful for a time under this open door training policy, Vylbrand had a high turnover of members to match its recruitment numbers, with many people leaving the organisation as soon as their training was complete and cutting most ties with the Guild.
When Vylbrand's founder disappeared into the unknown regions of the Unfounded Kingdoms their academy was shut down, many long term members dispersing without the energetic personality of the group's original leader. With no influx of students Vylbrand began to shrink as its intake no longer matched its losses, leaving a small core of members to ponder the future now that they were without direction.
Within a few months of the founder's disappearance one of Vylbrand's senior officers finally took charge, bringing a new energy to those that had held out hope for the revival of the Guild. Under the jokingly named 'Polyphemian Reforms' Vylbrand began mobilising once more as a far more disciplined Military organisation.
They would still train students to become the best that they could, but no longer would such training be without responsibility to the Guild. Vylbrand wasn't just an Academy anymore, it was on its way to becoming a proper paramilitary organisation.
