Or at least, that was the plan. The cloth divider beside them rippled, and Adler’s eyes grew wide as saucers when a bare-chested Vayne stepped through and sat down at a random table and waved towards a random player for service.

“Really now!” She harrumphed, getting up to her feet. “I’ll be right with you, love.” She smiled at her client, patting her shoulder before storming over to the Summoner to grab him by the arm. “Back! Now! I don’t care! Just move!” He might’ve been a man, but it seemed that her Guardian class gave her an advantage. She strong-armed him back to her side of the tent and held her hand up to warn him to stay put. “I’ll be back with tea. But really, the nerve.” She sniffed. “I suppose Weegee’s run off to clean himself up.” She glanced at the bucket of water she left behind and sighed. “I’ll get you another bucket too.” She said calmly. Whatever happened between the two men, he did technically help her earlier. Sort of. It was all a bit hazy, but Adler felt gratitude nonetheless. “As an Artisan, I can probably patch your shirt up just so that it doesn’t fall apart, but I don’t have the materials for it. I’ll be back with tea.” A pause. “You better pay for it, or Capsule will have my head. Excuse me.”

She moved quickly, like a woman on a mission where every second counted. When she reached the counter, she apologized to whoever was back there, grabbing a fresh pot and a cup to bring back to Vayne. She set these down on her fortuneteller table and went back a second time, bringing the bucket of water with her. “Sorry. It’s for Vayne.” When the bucket was full, she excused herself, then speed walked right back.

“Now stay. Here.” She raised her brows and held up a finger. “I need to see to a client. I’ll be back in a few minutes.” Without waiting for an answer, she strode back out and towards the table she had appropriated as her new office.

“Thank you for waiting.” She said, smiling widely. “Now, where was I.” Adler cleared her throat and closed her eyes partly.

“Are you certain this is your cup?” She asked the female Adventurer in an airy tone.

“What was that about?” She replied, balking at the idea of hearing her fortune in front of everyone. “Is this a trick? Are you a fraud? Oh my God you put something in my drink—!”

“Don’t be ridiculous, child.” She said irritably, though they only had a few years between them. The girl started to get up, but Adler leaned forward to put her hands on her shoulders and pushed.“Sit. Now. This is your cup which you drank tea from, yes? Let me see what I can…”

She trailed off as her sight unfocused and she gazed into the cup. “I see… a horse. There’s something… odd… like a fish tail.” The symbol in her cup was shaped sort of like a horse combined with a lowercase G, but she wasn’t about to tell her that. It reminded her of a hippocampus, a mythological creature that was a horse in front and a fishy serpent (or just fish, depends on who’s doing the interpretation) at the back. That was how she imagined it could resemble the letter G anyway. The leaves weren’t clumped together as closely as it could have been, almost making the serpent look like it was done with a calligraphy brush.

“Horses,” She said when it looked like the girl was about to interrupt her. It was better if they didn’t ask questions. “Majestic animals that will run themselves to death if you don’t pay attention and care for them well enough. Its tail belongs to an aquatic creature.” ‘Think fast. Come on now.’ “It symbolizes the horse’s versatility. It isn’t solid, signifying its decaying nature.” Horses don’t decay. Quickly, before she interrupts. “You are hurtling towards a goal, using any means to achieve it. You’ve been tirelessly pursuing it for a while now, but you feel like you’re less than when you started this quest. My advice to you is to slow down, take a rest. With no end in sight,” That could totally be what the small loop in the lower G stood for. “… you must treat this endeavor as a marathon, not a sprint. You need to stop and reassess your situation before you kill yourself trying—”

“But we can’t die in this world, so it’s okay, right?” Adler’s eyebrow twitched. She seemed so meek before, but now she’s interrupting me trying to read her own fortune. You really couldn’t tell with some people.

“No, it absolutely is not. I’m a fortuneteller, not a mindreader. If it isn’t literal death, then it must be something equally grave—”

“But we can’t die, so that must mean it isn’t so important after all.”

This was the last time she mentioned death in a fortunetelling. “I’ve done my part. Let me walk you out the door.” Almost instantly, the girl returned to her timid demeanor, though there was a look in her eye she didn’t like.

“Thank you for your patronage!” She bid to her latest customer, pulling the cloth divider aside to give her an unobstructed way out of their stall. ‘Well that went well.’ At least she had been paid for it though.

Suddenly, there was another commotion from the direction of her side of the tent. No.

“VAYNE!”

DON'T YOU REMEMBER WHY YOU DON'T HAVE A MOTHER?

Blissfully unaware was the way Blackcoat wished he could live. Unfortunately for him, he was never going to be granted such a reprieve, as he was going to be ever-busy in such a world and that was alright by him. He had his hands around his tea as Capsule decided to enter, even though the near-impact of Capsule on Adler caught his attention for a brief moment. They seemed to exchange... words for a bit, and he couldn't help but hear a good bit of it - someone was sick, it seemed. Eugh, that wasn't what he needed to know.

Now that Blackcoat was in the know, it was going to be hard to work around that. He waited until Adler left the room, waiting for her to leave as Capsule took a place next to him, leaving the sound of water filling the pot to be the only sound in his ears before he cleared his throat quietly. 

"Miss Capsule... I, uh, I am a... uhm, Cleric, so to speak. If your... friend needs medical attention, I can see about tending to him." Awesome, Blackcoat, that sounded as confidently awkward as you could make it. He cleared his throat again, looking over to her, his hands still at work with the tea before him.

"Regardless... is it okay out there? How much should we need?" He needed to know so as to know if he needed to do a supply run - his supplies were finite, even with some of his Chef abilities at work. Speaking of those wonderful fingers and their ability to create wonderfully tasty treats... he just realized he hadn't offered to capsule the deliciousness of the rock candy jar.

"Oh... yes, um, that jar has candy in it. Pull the string and pluck some out, if you, uh, want some."

Capsule couldn't help but quirk an eyebrow at Adler in surprise; she was never really good with hiding her emotions on the fly like this, unless it involved a blank look and carefully averted eyes. Was she speaking truthfully when she mentioned Weegee, or just inventing another lie for them to keep up with? Most importantly, though - would Blackcoat even believe her? She had no idea how smart he really was, but he was bound to be suspicious by now. But, if what Adler said was true...that meant she could explain the situation to Shira and Indy later, and that she was not a murderer. She wanted to see Weegee now just to confirm what she was hearing, and would (figuratively) kiss Adler for the good news. The faint smile she was wearing dipped a bit when Adler mentioned that Vayne was on the premises. Hopefully the nut had gotten some rest and was clear headed now. "And uh...sure, I guess?" Why didn't she want to go back to her part of the tent?

The redhead started to go back to work when she spotted something peculiar out the corner of her eye, and quickly stepped to block Blackcoat's view of the topless Vayne. 'What on Earth is that idiot doing?' Had he no decency? Adler came through again and handled Vayne before more of the customers could raise complaints. 'Honestly.' She blinked and straightened up when Blackcoat stammered out something. "Oh, right. Um…" She ran a hand through her hair, unsure of what to do or say. It was a little rude and suspect to turn down help from a healer, and lacked knowledge of the state of Weegee's resting spot. There had been some blood during his…"fit," and was likely staining the space around him. "Er, I'm not sure if it's necessary, but it couldn't hurt, I guess." The faith she had in Adler was high right now.

"As for supplies, I think we're good, though we might be running low on sugar and honey. Some people don't like tea with their sugar, it seems." The urge to chomp down on her thumbnail was strong, but she fought it back. "...Candy?" Did he think she was a child? 'It wouldn't be the first time…' She didn't have much of a womanly figure, and could pass for a teenage boy in the right clothing and light. "Uh, thanks," she said as she pulled at the string holding the jar lid's in place. This was new - for this world, anyway. Although she only ate candy a few times a year, it was a treat she was too polite (and curious) to refuse.

She plucked a little chunk of the candy from the string and tossed it into the air. She caught it with her tongue, like her brothers had taught her with pieces of popcorn, and snapped her jaw closed. "Mm~!" It wasn't half bad; it was pretty damn tasty, in fact! Capsule, who had not had a single piece of candy since being transported into the game, took a moment to appreciate the flavor and texture. "Das ist sehr gut. (That is very good.)" She had forgotten herself and spoke aloud in German instead of English. "Did you make this -"

"Excuse me - are either of you the owner of this stall?"

Capsule glanced at Blackcoat in confusion, and then to the man who had approached her. There was...something very odd about him. For one, he did not seem like he was here to enjoy the festival, and two, he held a roll of parchment in one hand, and a quill in another. Capsule swallowed her lump of candy in a single gulp. There was a crude lump of metal attached to the lapel of his jacket, with a capital "I" sketched into the center. Was this…

"I'm the health inspector, and I've received some complaints about this establishment -"

At that moment, Adler's voice cut through the chatter. "Vayne1"

The health inspector smirked. "The half naked man was just one of the complaints we received. I believe there was also a young man who fainted not so long ago? The source said there was a copious amount of blood gushing from his nostrils. You wouldn't happen to know anything about that, would you?" While he spoke, the man invaded the "Employees Only" area to peek and poke at their supplies and ingredients. "What's in this tea, exactly? This is tea, correct?"

Another gulp. "Y-yes, sir. It is. Blackcoat here is a Chef - he can tell you that it's tea."

The inspector grunted. "So are you the owner, then?"

"Er, I am…" Where was Adler when you needed her?! Capsule couldn't handle this guy alone, and Blackcoat technically wasn't an employee, so he was under no obligation to help her. 'Please don't go check Adler's side,' she mentally pleaded. Vayne and the witness to Weegee's fit were bad enough - she didn't need the inspector to find an injured person in the stall! That would shut business down for sure.

Vayne was back again in the empty part of the tent. He had been brought a pot of tea and a bucket of water by Adler to clean himself off. Vayne sighed as he poured himself a cup of tea and sipped at the hot liquid while he sat on a wooden box. He was a bit irritated at being shut in a corner like this. All the man wanted to do was relax and have a bit of tea, but he hadn't planned to get attacked and molested by a drugged out male. Due to the incident, he felt a rising headache resulting from a deep sense of irritation. He wanted nothing less than to just sit in the tea shop like everyone else and just lounge in a comfy seat. Vayne stood up and absentmindedly kicked at the box he was sitting on, sending it flying across the room.

The box hit a table loudly and it cracked open. The contents of the box spilled out and scattered across the floor beside the table, and Vayne realized that it was a box of large table cloths. Seeing the contents, Vayne gave a bit of a smile. He had an idea.

"Since they don't want me out there cause I'm half-naked..." Vayne said, trailing off as he grabbed one of the white table cloths and started wrapping it around his body, finishing off with a knot on the side of his neck. There was a mirror on the far corner of the tent and Vayne admired himself as he put on the finishing touches. The cloth that he had strewn on to cover his body looked like a shoddy mage's cloak. It was not pretty, but it covered him well enough. It covered his body up to thighs.

"Alright, they should have no more problems with this." Vayne said as he took his pot and cup of tea and moved on again back to the other side of the tent. He picked a table near the flap to the back room, so that if the others have anymore complaints, he can disappear quickly enough. As he sat down, he saw that a few people were looking at him due to his attire, which made him look like hes travelling through a desert. Vayne just gave them a wave in hello and sat down to enjoy his tea. However there was this one girl that got up and stood in front of his table, looking at him incredulously.

"Man, your clothes are real ugly." She said in a scorning tone. Vayne didn't even look up at her. There was always a bitch that thinks that their the fashion police. "Where did you even get those?" she added as she sneered at him.

"Oh I got these from the same place where you got that face." Vayne said as he continued to drink. "Excuse me, I'm here to enjoy my tea, not to look at your face all day."

Then Vayne heard Adler's call and he sighed. "Hmmm, what is it now Adler?" he said with a groan. "I'm covered up, so whats wrong?"

She was stunned. She was speechless. She was also recovering quickly, and just as she opened her mouth to give him another tongue lashing, a movement caught from the corner of her eye coupled with a suspicious sound drew her attention away for a moment. It wasn’t the health inspector whom Adler had yet to notice; her head turned towards the opposite direction, straight at the cloth divider hiding her side of the tent. Squeak.

Her eyes widened. There it was again! Adler had a horrible horrible feeling she knew what it was. Her legs felt like jelly. She did not want to go in there. ‘But we must.’ Where was a manly man when you needed one.

Ignoring the oddly dressed pimp trying to pretend he was normal (though why he had to remove his pants after finally creating a top for himself, she didn’t know), Adler rose from her table and walked slowly to the other side, her palms sweating all the while. She gripped a fistful of the cloth and took a deep breath before taking the plunge.

It… what happened? She didn’t notice it was this messy before. She had pushed everything to the side to reveal a bleeding Weegee where her table used to be. She supposed that the broken objects were from whatever activities the two men had been up to while she was gone, but now, a crate she didn’t remember owning lay open, spilling mounds of white cloth onto the ground, miraculously free from blood. That wasn’t hers. Why was it—

Squeak. Adler jumped out of her skin. It was coming from the box. She just wanted to run away, maybe call Blackcoat and have him fix this mess. ‘You’re bloody Amazonian woman. Get it done.’ Adler gulped and moved towards the box to investigate.

She thought it was just her imagination the first time she saw the white cloth twitch (‘Must be just the wind’), but after the cloth started writhing as if something were crawling under the top fold, Adler was convinced. She had to contain it. Where was the—

“Eeeek!” She squeaked as small black blurs darted out from the box. She wasn’t ready! Adler danced like the floor was made from hot coals, until she finally thought to leap up onto the low coffee table, which Vayne had broken of course and suddenly gave out under her weight. Still dancing like nobody’s watching, Adler hurried out the flap to the tea parlor, but an overheard conversation made her turn around and pop back in again.

“We don’t normally do health inspections you understand, but the reports were too much. This way to the back room, you said?”

Bloody hell…! She needed to clean up, immediately. The bucket of water she’d gotten for Vayne was still full. Adler made a ring using the white cloth around the puddle of blood Weegee left behind and poured the water in the middle to dilute it. She mopped it up quickly, hiding the evidence in her Bag of Holding, then quickly set about fixing the makeshift carpet and furniture back to where they ought to be.

There would, of course, be another stain on her carpet, where her table only covered Weegee from above.

“Good afternoon! May we come in?—”

“OH FOR HEAVEN’S—excuse me dear.” Adler stomped toward the divider and stuck her head out, carefully angling the cloth so that whoever was on the other side couldn’t see into the chaotic part of the space, and instead saw the other wall.

“Who are you and why are you disrupting the mystical energies I have painstakingly cultivated in my territory?”

“I’m the health inspector—”

“I’m a fortuneteller, not a waiter. Leave me be!”

“Really, madam, I must insist—”

“Madam?” Adler’s eyes bulged. “Are you calling me OLD, Sir?”

“Of course not—never—but—”

“Listen to your elders and go bother somebody else until my customer has left.” She pulled the curtain to the side forcefully, lacking a door to slam in his face. Everything she said was a ploy for time of course, but even if the health inspector did barge in, the most he could charge her with was lying about a customer. Her side was a mess, but at least there was no more sign of blood anywhere. Except the carpet, which Adler moved towards now to pack up.

Slightly taken aback from the blonde male’s politeness, her eye twitched from the sickening display. It was a good thing that she couldn’t voice her true feelings, she might have lost out of her only source of help. She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath then exhaled, immediately. “Yes, you see that my speech is putting me into quite the predicament,” she carefully thought over her words and found that she had no way of explaining what happened to her. “U-u-uh…” she stumbled on her words, trying to think of a way to explain her situation without seeming crazier than she already is. Dammit, I’m making a complete and utter fool of myself, she thought as he furiously scratched her head, unknowingly shaking out clouds of the pollen that’s been ailing her this entire time.

She tried to gather the thoughts little by little, among the many other people in the tent. With every passing second, the voices and sound got louder and louder and it only grated on her nerves. She clicked her tongue against her teeth and quickly jerked her head towards the rambunctious people enjoying themselves, “Could you people please shut your pretty mouths?!” The hell was that? She sounded so less intimidating than she intended, but the result she was looking for came to fruition. She jerked her head back into place, jostling her cherry pink locks and shaking out more of the weird powder. She had only caught a glimpse of the sprinkling dust before looking down at her hands. Could this be the problem? Just some simple pollen was causing her this much torment?

Although, she was in a world and awakened to a total culture shock, so it wouldn’t be implausible for some plants to have some type of weird effects of human beings. She shook her head like a dog that had just took a bath, which did nothing but spread the pollen around. An idea came quickly to mind, she looked up to the blonde bard, “Excuse me! I need you to douse me in your warm liquid, please!” She paid no heed to how extremely off that sounded, she just needed it done and with haste. “I beg of you, cover me all over with your warm liquid, please! I don’t care if it’s from the tap or whatever, just quickly douse me in it!”
